DOG TALES
The Story Of:
Indianajones
– Ann Shannon The back door slammed shut and once again I was on my own in the cold back yard with just a few ragged toys around. I was only five months old and wanted so badly to ‘belong’. The girl had bought me online – cute and fluffy at 8 weeks old and I was so pretty; a red and white Border Collie with a full white face and red dots on my ears – no wonder she fell in love with me on the internet. After a while I was a nuisance, a biter and a runner but what did she expect when she shut me outside every morning while she went to work and then put me in a metal crate at night. She was past doing anything with me, resorting instead to yelling at me and hitting me and I did not like her! One Saturday morning the front gate opened and in came a woman with a kind face – she must be visiting I thought, but she made a beeline for me and began to pat and talk to me. I tried to be good but I jumped all over her and then she threw some nice chicken treats on the ground and I jumped on them and it was great to be doing something. She had me running here and there following the treats and then turning in circles – things I did not even know I could do. It was not long before she put me in the back of her car and I said goodbye to that girl forever. I found out later that the kind lady had seen me for sale on the internet again and had come to rescue me. We went to her home across from a lake and with a dog park just two doors up – I was in heaven, I could run and play and meet other dogs. I knew she was besotted with me but she did not seem to like me much – maybe because I was biting her, running away, barking my head off and pooping everywhere! I heard her tell someone that I was one day off being put down after I had bitten her hard and made her scream. I don’t know what that meant but I knew it was bad…
She also said that I was the first non-pedigreed, nonregistered dog that she had ever had and she had to register me on the AR list (whatever that is?) My original name was Indy but she knew that I hated it as the girl used to hit me when she said it and I flinched when she called me. The kind lady changed it to Indianajones and I felt important and fancy with that name. She spent the next 12 months on behaviour with me and taught me many things – most of all not to do the things I had been doing and to enjoy being trained and then competing, which I love. I am five years old now, and have titles after my name (whatever that means?) FS.S – Freestyle Starters – this is me and Mum passing at the Ekka (pictured above) – I am Indianajones, she is dressed as Indiana Jones and the music is “Raiders of the Lost Ark” from the first Indiana Jones movie. I also have TK.S and TK.N Tricks Titles and I just love showing off now. I am so glad that I got a second chance and ended up with a kind knowledgeable trainer. Look at me smiling now !
