September has already rushed its way over to us! The Desert Oasis Key Club is already working hard to bring a memorable key club year. With RTC and Fall Rally slowly creeping its way over to the entire district, preparations are taking place. We are proud to say, our club has received an incredible response to the RTC interest and volunteer opportunities! Even with the year barley starting, we got more that eight members attend volunteering events over the weekends! We finished off this month's DCM with a win, our Advisor, Mr. McLean won "Advisor of the Month" and we couldn't be more grateful! October is jam packed with wonderful events and we can't wait so see how it all plays out!
Articles and Visuals
Thank you to everyone that summited these wonderful articles and visuals for the month of September! An article by Aiden Hengstler (Grade 12, member of DOHSKC) on the 'Springs Preserve Clean Up' event, helped persuade others that volunteering is not all hard work but rather fun! Here's what he had to say:
"The event was really fun. Surprisingly, the weather that morning wasn’t hot. When we got to the volunteer site, we were given trash bags and gloves. After we got the supplies, we all walked down to an area just off of the trails. The supervisors told the volunteers that after a big storm, trash gets washed into this area. When looking around there was a lot of slurpy cups and water bottles on the floor. We quickly got to work picking the trash up. After about an hour of cleaning, and it started raining. The supervisor told us to wrap it up and start to head back. Overall, the experience was fun and I would do it again."
-Aiden HengstlerOn September 10th, our local natural preserve (in Las Vegas), held a "Trail Pickup" to help clean up around the area. A whopping eight members from our lovely key club as well as a local Kiwani attended this event! Here, the volunteers worked together, even through the pouring rain to clean up the wildlife! Surprisingly, through all those horrible working conditions, we still received wonderful feedback on how the event went! As seen on the previous page (page 3) Aiden Henstler said "the experience was fun and I would do it again.". Positive words make for a successful service event!
The Local Help
Septem ber DCM
On September 15th, our district held the monthly DCM at Clark High School! At this event, we made great bond with other clubs around the district, participated in a service event (making dog toys) and even won an award! Our wonderful advisor Mr. McLean, won Advisor for the month for the entire district!
All the hard work and stress that Mr. McLean had dedicated to our club has paid off! In a short Interview I had with our advisor, he told me he was "Shocked!" and "Happy" that he received the award! As a club, we thank, and congratulate you Mr. McLean! Service Event: At this DCM we took part in a service event, making dog toys using old T-Shirts, for those in need! (top) handmade dog toy!
