DONCASTER BELLES

Andy Butler felt his side put in a complete performance as they picked up their second FAWNL Division One Midlands win in a row on Sunday. The Belles beat Solihull Moors 5-0 at Oxford Street to move 10 points clear of the bottom two, and Butler was pleased to see everyone in the team taking on board everything he and assistant Nick Buxton have asked of the group so far.

“I can’t fault anyone on the pitch, the application and desire from everyone was clear to see. We asked them to switch the play in training and they took on board all the information and showed what they could do,” he said. “We defended from the front and they all did that superbly, Ellie in goal did well again, the back four were excellent, the two holding midfielders were great again and so were the front four. “I thought Solihull were a good team, but we managed to force them into mistakes in places where they didn’t want to be so, again, it was good game management from the girls as a whole.” Goals from Hannah McWilliams, Jasmine Saxton, Chloe Starling and Emily Burgin saw the Belles run away with three points at Rossington. “All the goals we scored were well-worked, even the way we set up from their goal-kicks showed we wanted to win the ball higher up the pitch, and when you do that, you’re always going to be a threat,” he added.

“Kirsty Smith puts a great ball in and it was nice to see one of those set-pieces working out as well, it was a great header from Chloe Starling and she managed to get it a couple yards over the line in the end. “It’s good to see we’re getting goals from all over the pitch now, that’s something that is pleasing to see. We have another tough game coming up and we’re looking forward to getting to work on it straight away, we’re all focused on it already.” The Belles head to Leafield Athletic tomorrow before hosting Long Eaton United on Wednesday evening (kick-off 7.45pm).
