THE MANAGER

THE MANAGER

DARREN MOORE Good afternoon. I would like to welcome Gareth Ainsworth as well as the supporters, players and staff of Wycombe Wanderers who have made the trip up to the Keepmoat Stadium today. Gareth’s side are having an excellent season competing at the top of the table, and I am sure will provide a tough test today. We were frustrated to come away from Gillingham and Shrewsbury without any points. We were not at our best at Shrewsbury last week, but still created enough chances we felt we should have got at least a draw out of the game. I’ve seen a good reaction from the lads in training this week, and everyone is raring to go and ready to attack the next game. As I keep saying, we’ll take it one match at a time and see where that takes us. We have been able to take a little breather from midweek games, and that time on the training pitch has been valuable for us in terms of fully integrating the players we brought in at the end of the transfer window. We’ve got them right up to speed in terms of the systems we play. It was great to see so many of you here at the Keepmoat Stadium on Monday night as the U23s took on Exeter City in the Premier League Cup. Exeter are a very accomplished side at that level and included some experienced players in the side, so to come say with a point and progress from the group into the last 16 of the competition is a very positive achievement for Gary McSheffrey’s side. I would like to wish the Dons luck as they take on Barrow Raiders here tomorrow in the first game of their Betfred League One season. Their chief executive Carl Hall has kept me up to date with their progress as they went through their pre-season and I’m hoping to be here to cheer on the boys. Enjoy the game.

THE CHIEF EXECUTIVE

CHIEF EXECUTIVE

GAVIN BALDWIN Good afternoon and welcome back to the Keepmoat Stadium. I would like to welcome the supporters, players, staff and owners who have made the trip up from Buckinghamshire today. I have no doubt you will see a reaction today after the narrow defeats at Gillingham and Shrewsbury. They were frustrating to watch as in all honesty we felt we should have come away with at least a point from each game. We know the points gap to the play-offs has increased with those results, but rest assured no one at the club is ready to write off a top-six finish yet and every single thing we do is designed to give ourselves the best chance of doing that. Thank you to everyone who has donated to our Foundation’s book drive in aid of World Book Day. I know they were overwhelmed at the generosity when they launched at the Belles’ home game against Long Eaton, then again when they opened their doors here at the Keepmoat Stadium on Monday. With collections before today’s game and before the Dons take on Barrow Raiders tomorrow we expect to have a small library of books to hand over to partner schools. The thoughts of everyone at Club Doncaster last week was with the friends and family of Harry Gregg, who made 99 appearances for Rovers before being signed for Manchester United by Matt Busby for a world record fee in 1957 and becoming a hero of Munich. He was one of the first players

Having a band of the calibre of the Killers playing here is a testament to how we have grown

inducted into Rovers’ hall of fame in recognition of the contribution he made to the club, earning himself a richly deserved move to the Busby Babes of Manchester United. Harry's strength of character was never more evident than the year after his move to Old Trafford when his bravery helped save the lives of team-mates on that tragic night in Munich. From everyone at Rovers, may he rest in peace. It has been really pleasing to see the positive reaction to the announcement of The Killers playing here in May. Having a band of that calibre - they headlined at Glastonbury just last year - is a testament to how we have grown in recent years as Club Doncaster. That they see us as an ideal place to go through their final preparations before their UK tour, and to kick it off with us, shows

we have the facilities, staff and organisation to match anyone. We sometimes don't give ourselves enough credit, but we've come a long way in the past few years. As I write these notes there are still some tickets available, though the expectation is they will sell out. If you want to come down it is worth checking out www.ticketmaster. co.uk and www.gigsandtours. com as the only official vendors. Hospitality and accessible seating are available from the Club Doncaster Box Office by calling 01302 765899 or going to tickets. clubdoncaster.co.uk. Enjoy the game.

FEATURE:

JACOB RAMSEY Jacob Ramsey couldn’t have asked for a better start in a Rovers shirt after joining the club on loan from Premier League side Aston Villa. The 18-year-old midfielder scored twice on his full league debut, helping the team to a 3-1 win at Tranmere at the start of February. Ramsey admits he had to pinch himself on his way home after the game, but says that is just the start of what he hopes to achieve before the end of the season. “Scoring two decent goals on my debut at Tranmere was unbelievable, that was just the start for me though and I want to do more,” he says. “I had to pinch myself after the game when I was driving home, I wanted to get off to a good start but didn’t think it would go that well. “I had a couple of starts and then he took me out for the Bolton game, the manager knows what he’s doing with the squad. “There is a big step from the under23s to first-team football, the biggest

difference is the impact losing a game has on everybody. “In the changing room after there is such a different atmosphere and being in there after a win is a good feeling. “Everyone takes a defeat to heart which is a good thing because it shows that we care, but recently we’ve had a game coming up quickly to respond with.” After coming out of the comfort zone of the Villa under-23s, Ramsey had the knowledge he would be joining a few other loanees in the Rovers squad. He played against Niall Ennis earlier in his career and spends plenty of time with him and Wolves team-mate Cameron John away from football. “I’ve only been here for a few weeks but it’s been good for me and I’ve managed to get a few starts under my belt,” says Ramsey.

09

“Some of the other loan boys have helped me to settle in and if I need anything they are always around to sort me out.

10

“I knew before I came here that there were a few loan boys doing well so I thought I’d get plenty of opportunities. “I’ve played against Niall in the under-23s before so it was good to see a familiar face when I arrived.” Before deciding on whether to make the move to South Yorkshire, Ramsey took on board the advice of somebody who knows the club extremely well. Former Rovers assistant manager Richard O’Kelly is now part of Dean Smith’s coaching staff at Villa Park, and gave a glowing reference on what the youngster could expect from all aspects of the club. “I had the choice between coming here and staying at Villa, this was the best option for me to develop as a player so I jumped at the opportunity,” he says. “I had a few conversations with Richard O’Kelly before I came here and he said really good things about the stadium and people around the place. “He said he was looking forward to coming up to watch me play which is great for me to have the support of the coaching staff at Villa. “It helps to have someone there who knows the club I’m coming to, he gave me a couple of pointers in what to do and what not to do.” As Ramsey continues his development, he has the perfect role model to learn from at his parent club.

AMSE

Midfielder Jack Grealish continues to blossom in the Premier League having gone right through the Villa youth system and now wears the captain’s armband. As a fellow die-hard Villa fan, Ramsey says he has to be the inspiration for any young player trying to make their way in the game. Everyone who comes up through the academy at Villa looks up to Jack, he’s the one player that has really gone on to become a top class player in recent years. We’ve got a couple of others that have got into the firstteam and then gone out on loan but Jack is getting better and better. With him being a Villa fan and coming through the system to then captain the team, everyone looks up to him now as their inspiration. Training with him over the past 18 months has helped me, he trains the way he plays so that’s something I want to try and replicate. It shows that there is a pathway through if you’re good

enough and work hard then you’ll get rewarded. The Villa team when Jack came through to now for me is very different, he came in when we went down but they’re better now and much more accomplished. Manager Darren Moore has already had an impact on Ramsey, giving him the encouragement and confidence needed to go out and perform well every week. He believes Moore’s

experience in working with young players earlier in his coaching career makes Rovers an attractive proposition when deciding which club to join. “The manager has got a great reputation when it comes to developing younger players so he was a big factor in me coming here,” he adds. “He’s obviously been at West Brom and knows exactly what the young lads need and when the right time is to have a break. “Knowing that he has that ability to welcome the boys in and improve them made me want to come and do well. “There is no blame culture and that is big particularly for young players, as you need to know you’ve got the backing of your manager when you’re stepping out onto the pitch. “I want to go back at the end of the season as a more rounded person and player as that is what a loan spell is all about. “The big reason for coming here was to show I’m capable of playing well in men’s football and at a good level as well.”

FOUR TO WATCH DAVID

STOCKDALE He is currently in his second spell with the Chairboys after joining on loan from Birmingham City at the end of the January transfer window. Gareth Ainsworth drafted the 34-year-old in after an injury to goalkeeper Cameron Yates. He had joined Blues in 2017 on the back of guiding Brighton to promotion to the Premier League.

M AT T

BLOOMFIELD Still going at the age of 36, having signed for Wycombe in 2003 he has remained committed to the club ever since and has been an influential part to the club which as it has risen through the leagues. 17 years later he has made 470 appearances, scoring 39 times. In 2010 he studied a degree in professional sports writing and broadcasting which has led to him having a role at the BBC. He was also the first footballer to sign the Football vs Homophobia charter in October 2011.

JOE

JACOBSON A talented left-back who has been an ever present for Wycombe since he arrived at Adams Park in 2014 from Shrewsbury Town. Formerly a part of the Wales U21 side, Jacobson started his career in his native country with Cardiff City. His first permanent move to England came with Bristol Rovers in 2007 and he as stayed in the country ever since. He featured for Great Britain in the 2001 Maccabiah Games in Israel when he was only 14.

PAUL

SMYTH Rovers fans may remember Smyth for his tricky runs in from behind last season while he played for Accrington Stanley. Smyth was head hunted by Championship side QPR while playing for Linfield Town. Since joining the London club in 2017 he has played 15 games for them, but tough squad competition has led to him being loaned out. He has two international caps to his name with Northern Ireland, scoring the winning goal in a 2-1 victory over South Korea on his debut in 2018.

SHARED 5-A-SIDE IAIN TURNER

The Scotsman spent eight years on Merseyside with Everton, making four appearances for the Toffees. His first loan spell come at Chester where he won the Conference. This brought attention from Rovers who signed him on loan in 2005 where he would appear in eight games in red and white before joining Wycombe on loan in the same year.

JERMAINE McSPORRAN

Made a name for himself while playing for Wycombe in the old Division Two. Between 1998 and 2004 he appeared 158 times, scoring 30 goals. Later in 2004 the forward would join Rovers for two years of his career where he scored three times - twice against Ipswich in the League Cup and once against Oldham in the Football League.

16

TONY CUNNINGHAM

Featured for Rovers and Wycombe towards the back end of his career. He joined Rovers from local rivals Rotherham United in 1993 but over that year only scored one goal. He was also placed in caretaker charge of the club after Steve Beaglehole left. Once Ian Atkins was appointed in January 1994, Cunningham left Belle Vue to join Wycombe. Game time would be hard for him to come by with the Chairboys, so he left after one season before concluding his career at Gainsborough Trinity.

NATHAN TYSON

The former Reading youth product has played for Wycombe three times in his career. The first time came on loan from the Royals in 2004 where he made such an impression that the Chairboys made the move permanent in March that year. He went on to average a goal every two games which caught the eye of several clubs - eventually leading to a move to Nottingham Forest. After his release from Blackpool, Paul Dickov signed Tyson on the back of Rovers’ relegation to League One. He quickly captured the imagination of supporters but left when his contract finished in 2016. Following a brief spell in Scotland, Tyson returned to Wycombe steering them from League Two into One in his first season back.

ADEBAYO AKINFENWA

One of the most iconic players in the EFL, Akinfenwa featured for Rovers briefly in 2005 scoring four goals in nine games during his successful short stint in South Yorkshire. He settled at Adams Park in 2016 where he is close to making 150 appearances for the club and equally close to reaching 50 goals for them.

IN OPPOSITION

PAST RECORD PAST PASTRECORD RECORD

Rovers have only one competitive victory over today’s opponents, with the 3-0 win in August 2018 the only success for those in red and white hoops. Although it took almost an hour for Rovers to open the scoring against Gareth Ainsworth’s men, goals from Mallik Wilks, Joe Wright and John Marquis secured what was in the end a comfortable 3-0 win. Rovers could have claimed a league double, too, as they took a 2-0 lead at Adams Park. But stoppage time goals from Paris Cowan-Hall and Curtis Thompson sealed a 3-2 win for the Chairboys and continued the hoodoo they have over Rovers on home soil. That run continued earlier this season when Joe Jacobson converted a penalty kick in stoppage time when Rovers looked to have battled their way to a goalless draw. Wycombe completed a double over Rovers in the 1993/94 season, shortly after their elevation into the Football League. A Carling Cup meeting in 2006, which Wycombe won on penalties, was the only meeting prior to the resumption of league meetings in 2016/17.

ROVERS MANAGERS

IN THE HOT SEAT:

DONCASTER ROVERS MANAGERS FROM 1920

SEAN O’DRISCOLL (2006-2011) Dave Penney’s replacement, Sean O’Driscoll had played for Fulham before enjoying a 22-year association with AFC Bournemouth as player, physiotherapist, coach and manager. His teams were respected for playing good football, but he was little-known away from the south coast. That was soon to change. O’Driscoll’s first task, as he saw it, was to change the culture at the club, particularly encouraging players to think for themselves. This took time and meant that Rovers ended up in mid-table in a season notable for two highlights. The first was the move from Belle Vue to the newly completed Keepmoat Stadium, marked by an emotional final day at the old home and a thrilling first game at the new one. The other highlight was a run in the Football League Trophy, which saw Rovers reach a major final for the first time. They overcame Bristol Rovers in an exciting 3-2 victory after extra time at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium. Promotion to the Championship remained O’Driscoll’s top priority and by December 2007 things were not going well. Rovers had struggled for consistency in the first half of the season and there were some calls for the manager’s dismissal. O’Driscoll tweaked the team, including a recall for the dynamic midfielder Paul Green, and they won 13 of the next 16 League games. They just missed out on automatic promotion but reached Wembley for the first time in the club’s history after James Coppinger’s stunning hat-trick disposed of Southend United in the play-off semi-final. At Wembley James Hayter’s goal secured victory over Leeds United and Rovers were back in the second tier after a 50-year absence. It seemed that getting to the Championship might prove easier than staying there, and on Christmas Day 2008 Rovers were bottom of the table with only four wins.

The recall of striker Paul Heffernan was to change things, starting with a 4-2 win over Nottingham Forest on Boxing Day which showcased O’Driscoll’s brand of football at its thrilling best. Rovers won seven games out of eight and finished a respectable 14th. With the signing of Billy Sharp, Rovers enjoyed an even better season on 2009-10, spending time on the fringes of the play-offs before ending up 12th, their best finish since 1953-54. An excellent first half of 2010-11 produced genuine hopes that a play-off place could be achieved. However, the rot set in after Christmas and Rovers won only two games after New Year’s Day. They managed to stay up, but O’Driscoll suggested that the club might need to go down and rebuild before they had another tilt at promotion to the Premier League. This did not go down well with the club’s hierarchy. Rovers made a few additions before the 2011-12 season, including the promising Kyle Bennett and the returning Chris Brown, but their squad looked thin for the challenges ahead. They endured a wretched start, earning only one point from the first seven games. On 23rd September 2011 O’Driscoll and his assistant Richard O’Kelly were told that they were being replaced and left the club. It was a sad end to a great time in Rovers’ history. Sean O’Driscoll deserves to be remembered alongside Peter Doherty as one of Rovers’ greatest managers. He not only got the club up into the second tier but managed to keep it there for four seasons. He wasn’t a natural communicator and sometimes appeared off-hand, but he was loved by his players and generally appreciated by supporters. In the late 2000s he helped put Doncaster Rovers on the football map, and for that he should always be held in high regard. John Coyle

Paul Stancliffe felt his U18 side blew Lincoln City away in the opening half of last Saturday’s league game. Lirak Hasani and Jack Watson were both on target in the first-half, and they dug in to see out the victory although the young Imps did pull one back.

Gary McSheffrey felt his U23 side saw exactly what standard they must step up to after holding an impressive Exeter City side to a draw on their way to the knockout stages of the Premier League Cup on Monday night. The visitors were slick throughout and fought back from two goals down to earn the point which kept them ahead of Rovers at the top of Group D, ensuring they enter the last 16 as a top seed while McSheffrey’s side finish second and must take on a group winner in the next stage He said: “Their principles of play mirror everything they do at firstteam level, they are a really good organised team and I’m happy with a draw,. That’s the type of level that this group needs to get to, and I’m confident we will get there over the next couple of years. “It was a real test for us, they are the best team we have faced this season without a shadow of a doubt but it’s a great learning curve for the young players.” Myron Gibbons and Jack Watson struck either side of the break, with quickfire efforts from Alex Hartridge and Harry Kite getting the Grecians back into the game. McSheffrey added: “I was quite pleased after that with the resilience

Stancliffe said: “It was a game of two halves. In the first we were really good and I was really pleased with them. In the second they just stopped doing all the right things and made hard work of it. “We’ve proved so many times this season how well we can play. One or two little things did go wrong, but you’re never going to be 100%. “Everything in the first-half was great, we pressed at the right time and broke on the counter when we got the ball back. The only area we probably lacked is that we should have been more than 2-0 up at the break.” the lads showed, we didn’t crumble under the pressure. Louis Jones made some great saves to keep us in it, he was top drawer. “We played on the counter well with Myron’s pace up top, we can play that game and he finished his chance well when one on one, and it was a good second goal with great improvisation from the freekick and a nice finish by Jack.”

JUNIOR ROVERS

Hello everyone! Welcome to our game against Wycombe Wanderers. During half term I had a go at bowling and I was not very good so I will stick to football and learning Fortnite dance moves.

23

I hope you all enjoyed your week off and it is good to be back here today as we have had away games. After today we only have three home games left and our next one is our annual Junior Takeover Day. I am looking forward to meeting my assistant.

Enjoy the game, Donny Dog

Happy 18th Birthday ETHAN JAQUES From all your family and friends

Belles captain Kirsty Smith says the effort put in by Andy Butler and Nick Buxton since taking charge of the team is really appreciated by the players. A 3-1 success over Long Eaton United stretched their winning run in the league to three games, although that will be put to the test when runaway league leaders Wolves visit Rossington next weekend.

27

“We’ve put in a lot of hard work since Andy and Nick have come in to the club, they’ve given us a new perspective on things and it’s given the team a really positive boost, and that’s firing out confidence amongst us,” said Smith. “That’s starting to show in games now, too. We’re more relaxed, we’re more confident on the ball, and everyone is really starting to play to their strengths, we have good players here and the management are doing a great job in bringing that out in everyone.” Goals from Nadia Khan, Jasmine Saxton and Chloe Bethell saw the Belles pick up three points at Oxford Street in the FAWNL Division One Midlands. Smith, who got the assist for the important third goal, felt they handled the tricky conditions well. “I think we did really well from the get go, we went in with the mentality that we wanted to get the ball down and pass it about like we worked on in training and it’s starting to come together now,” she added. The conditions weren’t great but we dealt with it really well, we’ll have things against us with obstacles in the way, we handled things well, we kept our focus and did what we had to do to get three points. “We’re working hard as the weeks go on,

we’re putting into place what we want to get out of games, it’s fantastic for us and it gives us that confidence going forward once again and the goal is to maintain that.” Butler is enjoying his first foray into management, having previously coached within Rovers’ Academy. “We spoke to the players straight after the game and we appreciate that days like that are very long ones for them, with rushing back from jobs and schools, but the effort they put in has been brilliant,” he said. “The conditions were tough to play in, but you learn to win different games by different methods and they really dug in - they showed a lot of grit and determination to win the game. The girls

showed another side to themselves after conceding the goal, they didn’t let their heads drop and they managed the game really well, it was never going to be a spectacle because of the conditions but they ground it out. “We’ve said to the girls if you keep winning then it becomes a habit, that’s what we want to do, we’re all here to do things right. “We’ve got players in this team that are all knocking on the door after putting in some great performances and that makes it difficult for me and Nick, but that’s just what we want, we want players to come in and do that.” The Belles are back in action at Oxford Street, Rossington next Sunday when they host Wolves (KO 2pm).

SAFETY Three points is not the only priority today. Making sure everyone goes home safe is the most important result. Over recent months we have been working closely with the police and the EFL to review security at the Keepmoat Stadium. Now we are asking you to do your bit. It is vital that everyone - players, staff and supporters - remains vigilant and reports any concerns to stewards or police. Attacks might be rare, and the chance of you being caught up in one unlikely, but the message is ACT #ActionCountersTerrorism. Rovers safety officer Sam Ramsden said:

"We want everyone to enjoy today’s game at the Keepmoat Stadium but if you see anything that causes you concern, tell a steward or staff member. Please do not worry that you might be wasting our time. "The stewards are here to help keep us all safe so please be patient and cooperate with their instructions. When it comes to security it has to be a team effort and we are all players." Here's a quick reminder of what you can do to help keep yourself and others safe: • Arrive early, allowing more time for security checks • Minimise what you carry, fewer bag searches will speed up entry to the ground

• Be vigilant at all times and if you see anything suspicious, tell a steward right away • If you see anything that could pose an immediate threat to safety, call 999 • In an emergency, listen to the public address instructions and follow them • If told to evacuate, do so immediately, do not wait around to film events on your mobile • Move right away from the stadium as quickly as possible for your safety and to allow clear access for any emergency vehicles • Once you are safe, follow the local police force on Twitter for updates To find out more, visit gov.uk/ACT or @TerrorismPolice

Good afternoon and welcome to the Keepmoat Stadium and a very warm welcome to all the visiting fans from Wycombe Wanderers. SLO SEMINAR During December I attended the annual EFL SLO seminar which is held at EFL House, in Preston. It is an opportunity for all the SLOs in the north of the country to get together, discuss our roles and share best practice. The day started with a presentation from the Independent Football Ombudsman (IFO), this was to discuss the process of raising issues and complaints with the IFO. Following on from this we had an update on match day safety and security by the EFL’s security and operations advisor, this is always an interesting discussion as it is around how the

SLO’s work with the safety teams at different clubs. The day finished with a workshop on safeguarding and looking at different reallife scenarios. Safeguarding is something that we take very seriously here at Rovers, if you ever come across any safeguarding issues please get in contact with myself, the stewards or our safeguarding officer. As always it was an enjoyable event and great to discuss many aspects of the role with my fellow SLOs. EFL NEWSLETTER Following the meeting, the latest edition of the SLO newsletter was released by the EFL and included in the newsletter was a great piece on the clubs new first time fans / away fans video guide. Many people on the day of the meeting came to chat with me about the video and all had great things to say about it. As far as I am aware, we are currently the only EFL club who has such a video and

hopefully following the meeting and the release of the newsletter it will encourage a few other clubs to produce a similar video. If you have not yet seen the video, it is available on my social media pages, the club’s first-time fan page on the official website and the club’s YouTube account. I am always looking for people opinions on the video, so if you have any feedback then please get in touch! CONTACT DETAILS As always if you have any questions or feedback then please contact me on the usual SLO social media outlets, @SLO_DRFC on twitter, DRFC SLO on Facebook or you can email me on dean.medcalf@ clubdoncaster.co.uk. I hope you all enjoy today’s game and have a safe journey home. Rovers Till I Die Dean Medcalf Supporter liaison officer

SUPPORTERS CLUB

SUPPORTERS CLUB A big warm welcome to all the supporters for this afternoons’s game. Especially we would like to welcome to all the Wycombe supporters who have made the trip up to the Keepmoat Stadium, I hope they enjoy their day out with us, and like the experience besides the result. We lost the corresponding fixture down at Adams Park earlier in the season, but we must say they are some of the best stewards in the league down there as they share with Graham and staff from Oxford United. We once again had great support at Gillingham and Shrewsbury, and March is going to be hectic as we have five away games and only one home match throughout the month.

bus from Retford, Harworth and Rossington Styrupp and Labour club, times are 1pm (6pm) 1.20pm (6.20pm) and 1.30pm (6.30pm). Times in brackets are night games, and there is no need to book. For fans’ safety we will be picking up on the inner circle adjacent to Car Park 2 this season, so you can leave your car there.

Again this season we will be running coaches to all home and away games, the sheet with times and prices on are included in the programme but are subject to change. We have tried to keep the prices as low as we can but had to introduce a travel policy for under 16s who have to have a responsible adult travel with them. Fans who are 16-17-years-old need a consent form from their parents or guardians to travel. These can be downloaded from the Supporters Club website, on the bus or at the Supporters Club office based in the Club Doncaster Academy.

The North Branch also run coaches to most away games, from the Adwick, Carcroft, A19 corridor area. If you wish to travel with them call 07780316923. They are a great set of lads and lasses, and do a lot of raffles to support local charities. As in previous years the Supporters Club are having weekend trips away, the North Branch will be stopping in Blackpool for the Accrington game and the Retford Branch will also be stopping in Blackpool for the last game of the season at Bloomfield Road. Call Paul on 07961727769 if interested. Both trips will be £150, including two nights' bed, breakfast and evening meal. Not many places are left.

The next away game is away at Milton Keynes on Saturday March 7 depart Retford 10.15am, Harworth 10.20am, Bawtry/Rossington 10.30am, Punches /Cantley lights 10.35am, Keepmoat Stadium 11am. The Main branch bus Wilfreda 10.15am, Infirmary 10.45am, and Keepmoat Stadium 11am. Our North Branch are also running a bus to this game. This will be followed by Portsmouth, on Tuesday March 17 departing Keepmoat Car Park 2 at 1pm, other pickups will be available once we see the number of fans travelling to this game. For the rearranged match at Bolton on March 24, we are looking to leave Retford at 3.45pm, Harworth 3.50pm, Bawtry / Rossington 4pm, Punches 4.10pn, and the Keepmoat Stadium at 4.30pm. The main branch bus will leave at Adwick-Wilfreda 3.45pm, Infirmary 4.15pm and the Keepmoat Stadium at 4.30pm. As always we will run the home match

You can join the Supporters Club on the bus and get discount straight away, or join online or at the supporters shop located in the Club Doncaster Academy. The price is £7 adult and £5 concessions. Call Paul on 07961727769 or Len on 01302 817347 for more details and bookings.

The VSC and the Supporters Club are now involved the IAG in conjunction with the South Yorkshire Police, In a supporters-led initiative, to cut down on anti-social behaviour at games, how the policing of matches come about, trying to make it a more pleasurable experience going along to the games. The Rovers show on Trax FM has now moved to a Friday night spot from 6pm til 7pm, with me and Mellony Sheperd talking all things Rovers and local nonleague football, well worth a listen. The Retford Branch Annual Dinner dance will be held on Friday May 8 at the Olde Bell in Barnby Moor Retford, tickets £25 including free transport from Doncaster and the surrounding areas. Rovers Till We Die Paul Mayfield

VIKING SUPPORTERS CO-OPERATIVE Football is the national game, and football supporters are the lifeblood of the game. While many privately owned football clubs are well run, ours included, there are numerous examples over the years where this model of ownership has failed the supporters of that club, and has led to a number of clubs becoming either partly or fully owned by those supporters. The Minister Of Sport set up the Expert Working Group with the intention of looking at ways to improve engagement and dialogue between clubs and fans, and therefore to improve transparency and trust. The detailed recommendations from the EWG led to the government instructing the EFL and the Premier League to enter into structured dialogue with those supporters, and especially with the supporters trust at that club. As you may be aware the club hold two Meet The Owners events each year which meet the criteria set down by the EFL. On top of that the club have a Supporters Board which meets on a regular basis during the season to discuss a very broad range of topics. Suffice to say that DRFC have not only met the requirements but have exceeded them in both frequency and content, and that is something we can once again be proud of. Martin O'Hara

FOUNDATION UPDATE Clarborough Primary School student Freddie won a signed shirt as winner of a Foundation literacy competition. 42

The challenge was to write “a day in the life of their favourite footballer” and Freddie’s poem - written from the point of view of England and Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane – stood out among the rest of the entries and earned him top prize. Foundation sport development office Kelly Jackson-Powell said: “It was great to see so many young people engaging in this project and the competition entries we received were of a very good standard making the task of judging very difficult. All the children did an excellent job but Freddie’s piece really stood out through the theme of resilience and the ability to rhyme. “The Foundation’s links to both Rovers and Doncaster RLFC mean that we can provide a unique opportunity to school children who can enjoy using their literacy skills in practical sporting environments.”

HERE IS FREDDIE’S W INNING POEM: It’s totally amazing, it’s really insane, That I play for Spurs, tha t I’m Harry Kane. My dream since I was yo ung, My dream I am now living , To play for team and co untry, The leather ball I’m kic king. Train hard, eat well and rest, So that I can be the best! Take care of body, mind and soul, To score the winning go al!
