NDP pushes national affordable housing plan Access to secure and affordable housing is a serious problem for individuals and families all across Canada. Last year, more than 250,000 Canadians experienced homelessness. In Vancouver, affordable housing is particularly hard to find. New Democrats believe the federal government should make investments in affordable housing. That’s why a New Democrat bill to create a national plan for accessible and affordable housing is close to becoming law. Many people who are struggling to maintain housing would like to purchase or rent affordable homes. We need to build more co-ops, seniors’ housing, housing for the disabled and affordable rental and market housing. Our bill would help make these homes a reality for many Canadians. Affordable housing is also good for the economy. Every $1 that the government invests in building housing generates $1.40 in economic activity. This compares to just 20 cents for every $1 spent on corporate tax cuts. It is time that we had a federal government that participates in the housing file instead of leaving it to the provinces and cities. I will continue to work on your behalf to push for more affordable housing. NAME no postage required
