take a deep dive
Anyone who’s ventured a swim in Lake Michigan at the height of summer knows it’s, shall we say, refreshing. It’s those cold waters, presenting more like an inland sea than a lake, that helped preserve dozens of shipwrecks. And those shipwrecks tell the tale of Manitowoc County’s place in history in a way so significant that the watery depths have just been named a National Marine Sanctuary. Eco-tourists, history buffs, outdoor enthusiasts, and divers, here is your #1 reason to visit the Manitowoc- Two Rivers area in 2024.
Q. How are the shipwrecks found and identified?
A. Russ Most of the shipwrecks in the sanctuary were discovered by wreck hunters, divers, who take this on as a personal pursuit. Many were found in the 1970s and ‘80s when scuba diving was becoming more popular. It’s very fascinating, as these divers went out on their own time, using sonars to methodically look for these wrecks. And it’s incredible what they’ve found.
Q. What do the ships tell us about the nation’s history?
Q. What are some of the ways visitors can responsibly experience the sanctuary, both on water and on land?
A Russ We ask divers to be careful in how they anchor, never anchoring on the shipwrecks themselves, and to not remove items. We will be installing mooring buoys that will help divers have a great experience and get up and down the water column. For non-divers, there are shipwrecks in the shallow waters of Two River’s Point Beach State Park and on a bright day you can see them. Wayfinding is planned for swimmers, snorkelers, and kayakers
Underwater Heritage Tourism
Underwater Heritage Tourism
The designation of the Shipwreck Coast National Marine Sanctuary was no small undertaking. A community-based nomination to conserve the collection of shipwrecks, with a focus on cultural resources, history, heritage tourism, and research, was submitted to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, NOAA for short, back in 2015. Final approval was issued just last-year. The person who perhaps knows more about this national treasure than anyone else is Russ Green, the Great Lakes Regional Coordinator for the NOAA Office of Marine Sanctuaries. He’s a diver himself and has explored some of the shipwrecks in the new sanctuary, including the Vernon and the Rouse Simmons. Let’s have Russ fill in the details.
A. Russ The ships from the 1830s carried goods and materials east to help the frontier expansion, so the very beginnings of Wisconsin’s settlement and the connections of ports are reflected in these shipwrecks. Lots of innovation can be seen over the shipwrecks that span the 1830s to 1930s. The shipwrecks also tell the story of people moving to the Midwest to farm, plus there are the workaday ships moving raw materials in one direction and manufactured goods on the way back. The real stories, though, are all the men and women tied to these shipwrecks. They built this nation during a period of enormous growth for the United States.
TAKE A DEEP DIVE INTO THE SHIPWRECK COAST MARINE
SANCTUARY - By the Numbers
•The Shipwreck Coast covers 962 square miles over three counties, protecting 36 shipwrecks, with research suggesting there are nearly 60 more yet to be discovered.
•Of the 36 shipwrecks, 27 are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
•Fifteen of the known 36 shipwrecks are off the 30-mile stretch of coastline in Manitowoc County.
•Some of those shipwrecks date as far back as the 1830s, telling a tale of westward expansion that predates the railroads. The Shipwreck Coast is one of just 15 national marine sanctuaries along that stretch of shoreline. Also, area museums, with their exhibits and programming, are places to learn the story, so there’s a huge canvas to work from in Manitowoc County.

More Historic Maritime Finds
One of the largest maritime museums in the Midwest is right in Manitowoc. The Wisconsin Maritime Museum celebrates the heritage of the area, particularly the submarines built here during World War II. Its world-class collection, which includes retrieved submerged shipwreck artifacts, photographs, even historic vessels including the USS Cobia submarine, starts with the early settlement of American Indians and spans to today.
Another repository for shipwreck artifacts is the Rogers Street Fishing Village and Great Lakes Coast Guard Museum in Two Rivers, which chronicles more than 175 years of commercial fishermen battling the treacherous waters of Lake Michigan in pursuit of a living. Here you’ll find both fishing exhibits and shipwreck displays providing a time capsule of specific moments in the area’s history. While at the village, linger over the mural that depicts the earliest fishermen, the Native Americans, and make time to climb to the top of the 1886 North Pier Lighthouse for a bird’s eye view of the fishing village. The entire lighthouse structure was donated by the Coast Guard after it was deemed obsolete as a beacon for giving vessels a visual fix on the harbor and was relocated to the fishing village from its original perch at the end of the North Pier in Two Rivers. It is one of the few authentic wooden structures left on the Great Lakes.
An Excerpted Passage from the Shipwreck Coast Nomination
“A national marine sanctuary would expand the legacy of Wisconsin’s maritime archaeology program, expand recreational and tourism opportunities, promote stewardship of the largest freshwater system in the world, and create the sense of place the citizens of Wisconsin value so deeply.”
Keep the Memories Alive When You Stay on a Submarine!
The USS Cobia was launched in 1943 and saw six war patrols before being brought to Manitowoc to serve as an international memorial to submariners. It was even declared a National Historic Landmark following restoration to its original configuration. Take a guided tour of the Cobia, considered the best-preserved submarine in the country, or spend the night as part of the museum’s Sub BnB offering, a rare opportunity to respectfully step into the shoes of the brave sailors who once boarded Cobia not knowing if they would ever return.

A FRESH PERSPECTIVE
Staying with the lighthouse theme, here are two more to gaze upon.
Manitowoc Breakwater Lighthouse: Built in 1895. While it is not open to the public you can walk out to it. It’s the first structure visitors aboard the S.S. Badger car ferry see when entering Manitowoc’s harbor, with the lighthouse still guiding mariners into the port.
Rawley Point Lighthouse: This relocated lighthouse, which came from Chicago in 1894, rises 113 feet above Lake Michigan and has one of the largest and brightest lanterns on the Great Lakes. Stroll the Rawley Point Recreation Trail from Two Rivers to Point Beach State Forest, with the lighthouse standing at the northern point of the trail. Bring your camera, as you’ll want a photo of this distinctive, red-roofed lighthouse. The lighthouse and keeper’s quarters are not open to the public.
A Modern Day Paddler’s Paradise
When you’re ready to get out on the water for some paddling, a good starting point is Manitowoc Marina, where you can rent a kayak – traditional paddle-style or one you pedal with your feet - or stand up paddleboard. Fishing enthusiasts, ask about their recommendations for fishing charters too. In Two Rivers, Klein Kayak Rentals has kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, and canoes. Now that you have your gear, you have lots of choices for waterways. There’s the Manitowoc River Watershed Water Trail with 25 miles of navigable water paddling along the Manitowoc and Little Manitowoc Rivers which empty into Lake Michigan. According to Curt Hall, Parks and Recreation Division Manager for the City of Manitowoc, one of the best ways to safely enjoy the river is to start by surfing the website (mrw-water-trail-baylakerpc. hub.arcgis.com) devoted to the trail, which provides up-to-minute river conditions from American Whitewater plus lists of amenities including launches, landings and restrooms. Curt also likes to point kayakers to the map of historic and cultural sites along the waterway, providing a documentary of sorts for paddlers to follow. He specifically called out stop #18 on the map, the Lincoln Park Zoo & Conservancy on the Little Manitowoc River, for its animal biodiversity and extremely critical ecosystem. Experienced kayakers may want to link to the Twin Water Trail in Two Rivers which serves up scenic views of the wetlands of Woodland Dunes with opportunities to spot some 100 species of migratory birds in this important flyway.
A Fresh Perspective
If you’re staying at one of the campsites at Seagull Marina & Campgrounds in Two Rivers, you can launch your kayak there. The marina staff can help with fishing charter contacts as well. One more fun tip: Music lovers will want to know you can listen to live music at The Wharf restaurant on the Manitowoc River without leaving your kayak.
Beachy Keen
The Manitowoc-Two Rivers area has 17 beaches, with the 50-acre Neshotah Beach on Lake Michigan the most popular and for good reason. Visitors are drawn to the groomed sandy shore and the spots for swimming and launching jet skis and kayaks. Red Arrow Beach is a 30-acre groomed sand beach with a handicap accessible lakefront and beach walkway. At Blue Rail Park Beach, there’s a new seasonal restroom with open air shelter, beach shower, and pet drinking fountain designed to look like an early 20th century boathouse.
Between swim beaches, kayak water trails, lighthouses, historic maritime collections, and the new Shipwreck Coast National Marine Sanctuary, there’s a good chance you’ll find yourself “coasting for a while” on your next getaway to the Manitowoc-Two Rivers area.
The Most Famous Shipwreck
Arguably the most famous shipwreck off the coast of Manitowoc County is the Rouse Simmons, the “Christmas Tree Ship,” that sank in a ferocious storm in 1912, loaded down with 5,000 Christmas trees harvested from Michigan for delivery to Chicago. The ship was captained by the kindly Herman Schuenemann who, for 30 years, made sure the poor of Chicago received a tree. That is, until the fateful night of Nov. 23 when the ship was spotted with flag half-mast, meaning distress, before it disappeared off the shore of Two Rivers in 170 feet of water. None of the crew were ever found. Many of the Christmas trees remain crammed in the ship’s hold, and the ship’s wheel is housed at Rogers Street Fishing Village.
Words of Wisdom: Safety First
Curt Hall offered these words of wisdom for kayakers on the Manitowoc River Watershed Water Trail: “Safety is #1, so know your skills and the body of water you’re about to paddle, paddle with a buddy, and wear a personal flotation device. Know distances and weather conditions, especially upriver of Henry Schuette Park which can present high risks. And leave no trace.”
Room to Spread Out on the Mariners Trail
A recent widening of a two-mile stretch of the paved six-mile-long Mariners Trail, which connects Manitowoc and Two Rivers, makes running, biking, and strolling this path even more enjoyable. Along with the longest, continuous scenic view of Lake Michigan in the state, the Mariners Trail is resplendent with gardens and commissioned sculptures.

Birding at Woodland Dunes
by Nancy Nabak, Woodland Dunes Nature Center & Preserve
What is birding?
Birding is the art and science of observing birds in the wild. This can be done individually or in a group setting, exploring a variety of habitats or just one location. People of all ages, young children to the very seasoned, enjoy birding. Some birders tally the number of species they see (or hear) while on an active hike.
Others will choose to observe birds at a much slower pace and may not record them at all. Some may even choose to hire a guide to increase their chances of seeing a targeted bird.
Birding is something that can be done in your own backyard or anywhere in the world and throughout your lifetime. After some initial purchases, bird watching is literally available to you whenever you're in nature.
Good Birding Spots to Explore
The Manitowoc/Two Rivers area:
•Woodland Dunes Nature Center & Preserve
•Manitowoc Harbor
•Point Beach State Forest
•Collins Marsh
Why Go birding?
Birding is the fastest-growing outdoor activity in America, and the Manitowoc Harbor is the number one birding hotspot in the state, according to eBird (an online bird-sighting portal). The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service reports that 51.3million Americans say they watch birds.
Birding can be viewed as a treasure hunt. Exploring to find a gem in nature is exciting and may feel like a game to some people. It offers you the chance to moving.
It offers you the opportunity to view beautiful feathers and wild looking beaks. It shows you a unique side to nature that only requires slowing down, having a look, and realizing you are in the midst of awe.
Birding can also be a way to get social enjoyment -you can go out with a local bird club or group of birders. Or, it may be a way for you to get away from it all and enjoy solitude. Birders help the field of science advance its learning about bird behaviors, trends, and overall health of ecosystems

CHARTER FISHING
Lake Michigan has the largest sport fishery on the Great Lakes. The trout and salmon fisheries are world class.
WHAT IS CHARTER FISHING?
Charter fishing is when a professional guide provides you with the boat, equipment and expertise to provide a fishing experience within a specified time limit. Most Great Lakes charters fish by trolling, where the fishing lines are baited with lures or bait fish and are drawn through the water behind the moving boat. What this means for the angler is a relaxing ride until the fish bite.
WHY BOOK A CHARTER?
Using a licensed, experienced captain not only ensures a safe, enjoyable fishing trip, but also increases the odds of catching fish. Captains have years of experience and know the waters, what the fishing is like and where the fish are, providing the customers with the best opportunities to catch their limit. You do not need to be an experienced angler to enjoy charter fishing. Great Lakes charters are almost all trolling, you don’t have to worry about holding your rod or casting. And with the help of your captain, you don’t even have to take the fish off the hook! Avid anglers can learn a lot too. Like where the fishing is good, what lures and baits to use new techniques and they can use this information on their own boats. The main responsibility of a charter captain is to provide you the most enjoyable Great Lakes charter fishing experience possible.

Lighthouses have seen their importance for navigation decline while at the same time the public interest in these historic structures has grown. Steeped with history and architecturally beautiful, lighthouses are some of the most popular attractions on Lake Michigan. Our area is proud to be home to three historic lighthouses.
Rawley Point Light, at Point Beach State Forest, is among the brightest signals on the Great Lakes rising 113 feet above the water. It was named after Peter Rawley, one of the first settlers in Manitowoc County, located five miles north of Two Rivers on County Road O. Tours are not available, however great views can be seen from a trail at Point Beach State Forest.
Constructed in 1839 the Manitowoc Breakwater Light was the first light to mark the harbor entrance. In 2010 the lighthouse was purchased with the new owner painting and restoring the exterior of the lighthouse in 2018. The light is located at the end of the breakwater on the north side of the harbor next to the Manitowoc Marina. The Breakwater Light makes for a nice stroll on a summer day, and is a favorite place to take photos.
Built in 1886, Two Rivers North Pierhead was relocated in 1975 from its original position (the end of the Two Rivers harbor breakwater). Displayed now at Rogers Street Fishing Village in Two Rivers, the light is the only example of a wood pierhead light surviving on the Upper Great Lakes.

OUTDOOR ADVENTURES
WE'VE GOT THEM!
Outdoor Adventures – We’ve Got Them!
By Nancy Nabak
Exciting discoveries and outdoor adventures are just a paddle, hike, or field glass away when you’re in Manitowoc County. Here, our natural assets are plenty and calling. Be ready to answer!
KAYAKING
Manitowoc County rests on the Lake Michigan shoreline and boasts the beauty of the East and West Twin Rivers where kayaking and viewing wildlife can be enjoyed. These two rivers are connected like a horseshoe; the West being less developed/more wildlife, and the East being more urban, entering the city of Two Rivers. On the Twin Rivers, paddlers can enjoy smaller, calmer waters. If you prefer a larger palette for kayaking or water sports, Lake Michigan is just on the other side of the road with docks and rentals at the Manitowoc Marina.
HIKING
Meandering trails of all sizes and abilities can be found throughout our county. Woodland Dunes and Point Beach share a unique terrain that should not be missed – “ridge and swale” habitat. Forested beach heads that are thousands of years old make up the lower “swale” depressions and higher “ridge” areas, offering a unique look at plant and animal life. Other terrain-based trails include: Ice Age Trail and Cherney Maribel Caves County Park. Enjoy flowers, mushrooms, fresh scents, and sweet birdsong with each step. On the other hand, Mariner’s Trail, hugging the Lake Michigan shoreline, is an extremely popular paved pathway for enthusiasts of all abilities.
BIRDING
Far from a passive sport, we’ve got landscapes to suit the needs of bird nerds of all types. There are hiking trails into various habitats (forest, prairie, marsh, lakefront, etc…) at Point Beach State Park, Woodland Dunes, Silver Creek Park, Lincoln Park and the containment facility on Lake Michigan where you can check off dozens of birds on your checklist. Grab your binoculars, camera, field guide and set out. Stay in focus. There are plenty of opportunities to view wildlife such as fox, mink, deer, otter, and other critters while birding and hiking.
At the day’s end, how about a little night time excitement?
Tune into the wonders of the dark by grabbing an intentional stargazing moment. Look for open spaces, find the celestial bodies, and let your imagination go. Keep your ears tuned in for nocturnal sounds, too. Owls, crickets, frogs and toads may give you a chorus of joy to accompany the stars.
Come
adventure with us. Create a buzz within your soul, and spark some memories to last a lifetime.

MANITOWOC, WISCONSIN AMERICAN WORLD WAR II HERITAGE CITY
Manitowoc recently earned the designation as the first American World War II Heritage City in the state of Wisconsin. This honorary designation was given to the City of Manitowoc in December 2022, from the National Park Service of the United States government, recognizes the city or region for its contributions to World War II and continued preservation of that history today.
World War II had affected the lives of every American, even here in the Manitowoc area. Families and individuals relocated to industrial centers for higher paying war jobs, and people from different backgrounds had to work together in order to meet the war demands. Sacrifices by all Americans were made and rationing of imported goods was mandatory. The Manitowoc area was no exception and played a vital role during World War II. The Manitowoc Shipbuilding Company, owned by Charles West, produced 28 submarines ordered by the United States Navy. The first submarine built, the USS Peto, launched April 30, 1942. Of the 28 submarines built in Manitowoc, 24 returned safely.
The Manitowoc Shipbuilding Company developed speed cranes that were sent to Pearl Harbor after the attack to aide in lifting sunken battleships. At one point during the war, 7,000 people were employed at Manitowoc Shipbuilding, including 600 women. There were other companies in Manitowoc that helped during World War II. The production of cookware at Aluminum Goods was halted, and they began manufacturing mess kits, aircraft fuel tanks, radio and radar equipment and cartridge cases. Farmers across Manitowoc County helped by increasing their production of hay, corn, oats, wheat, rye and corn. Other companies such as Burger Boat, Aluminum Specialty, Lakeside Packaging, Heresite Protective Coatings and others produced thousands of items for the war effort. Some of those items included meal cans, cooking sets, 90-gallon oil tanks for B-29 bombers, anti-corrosive for aerial torpedoes, all manufactured here in Manitowoc.
White House Milk and the contribution they made was so important, they were awarded the "A" Award from the War Food Administration in 1945. They reduced the volume of the milk and extended shelf-life proving to be vital in the nutrition of troops.
The sale of war bonds raised a great amount of money for the war effort. A one night show at the Capitol Theatre brought in over one million dollars and Francis A. Kadow, general manager of WOMT, through his efforts raised even more in war bonds.
Even today, Manitowoc is home to the Wisconsin Maritime Museum. You can go there and tour the USS Cobia (although not built in Manitowoc, it is a representation of the submarine built in the city), a World War II submarine and learn more about the history during the war effort. If you want to get the feel of how servicemen lived on these submarines, you can stay overnight with your family on the Sub BNB or with a youth group.
MANITOWOC SHIPBUILDING
JANUARY 25, 1942
This view looking southwest from atop a gantry crane at the Manitowoc Shipbuilding Company shows what the busy shipyard looked like at the beginning of January 1942 when the firm's World War II submarine program was well under way. At the left, one of the company's new prototype Model 3900 Speedcranes is positioned to work on the superstructure of the submarine U.S.S. Pogy in Building Berth B. The Pogy (SS 266) was the second submarine to be laid down at the yards; the first — the U.S.S. Peto — was already under construction in Building Berth A.
CCC TICKET - FEBRUARY 7, 1944
Admission ticket to a touring stage show "It’s the McCoy" that was presented at the Capitol Theatre in Manitowoc, Wisconsin on February 7, 1944. Intended as a vehicle for promoting war bond sales during the Fourth War Loan drive, the production featured soldiers from Wisconsin’s Camp McCoy who had been professional performers in civilian life. Following visits to a number of other Wisconsin cities, their appearance in Manitowoc was arranged by Oscar Richter of the Manitowoc County War Finance Committee and R. S. Guiterman, manager of the Capitol Theatre. Tickets could be obtained by purchasing war bonds that were sold by local merchants. Seats at the evening performance were available to purchasers of bonds in denominations of $50 to $5,000. Tickets to the 3:30 p.m. matinee performance were available with the purchase of a $25 war bond. This ticket, on which the time has been amended to 3:30 p.m., was for a matinee performance. The show in Manitowoc netted $1,039,000 in bond sales, more than it generated in any other Wisconsin city except Milwaukee.
ALUM GOODS
JUNE 1943
A woman wearing a print house dress and apron sprays some type of finish coat on a ten foot droppable bomber fuel tank in production at an Aluminum Goods Manufacturing Company plant in Manitowoc or Two Rivers, Wisconsin. This picture was part of a salute to women war workers published in the June 1943 issue of Mixing Bowl, the company’s employee newsletter. Noting that women were doing "a magnificent job on all war items," the article stated "They are working earnestly, untiringly for their sweethearts, sons, and brothers—for an early peace." During World War II, Aluminum Goods Manufacturing Company, which had plants in both Manitowoc and Two Rivers, produced more than 400 different types of items for the armed forces, including cartridge cases, radar parts, canteens and cooking sets, and these large droppable fuel tanks which were destined for use in TBF Avenger torpedo bombers.

Cheese Curds & More Cheese
Henning's Wisconsin Cheese
20201 Point Creek Rd, Kiel, WI 53042
This is where you watch cheese being made and sample curds every weekday morning! They also have a great store and museum you won't want to miss!
Fresh & Fried Pub Cheese Curds. Fresh local curds coated with pub-made beer batter, lightly fried & served with raspberry balsamic dipping sauce.
Nowhere else in the world do they produce cheese in blocks the size and style with which Henning’s Cheese makes it. In their cheese factory in Kiel, they regularly make cheese in 3000 lb blocks and sometimes bigger. If you visit the factory before 10:30 am daily you can see cheese being made through an observation window and look at historic cheese making equipment in their museum.
Pine River Dairy Inc.
10115 English Lake Rd, Manitowoc, WI 54220
Pine River Dairy has been making butter for more than 60 years at its current location. You can watch the butter making process from their retail shop. For a sweet treat try their Strawberry butter, or sample their award-winning cold pack cheese spreads.
Each year Wisconsin produces more than 23 billion pounds of milk! The Manitowoc Area has a rich dairy history as well. We use the milk produced here to make products like cheese, butter and ice cream.
CHEESE CURDS
What is a cheese curd? Technically speaking, it’s an essential part of the cheese-making process: before cheeses like cheddar are formed into blocks or wheels, they are smaller, perfectly bite-sized curds. Flavor-wise, they are mild and salty. People enjoy them as-is, or deep-fried, and there’s great debate about which way is best. The only thing everyone agrees on is the importance of the squeak: the protein strands in the curds will squeak against the enamel on your teeth when you take a bite, a defining characteristic of freshness (which begins to fade after about 12 hours).
Ice Cream
Cedar Crest Ice Cream Parlor
2000 S 10th St, Manitowoc, WI 54220

AN AGRI-TOURISM HOTSPOT CONNECTING FARM-TO-TABLE
Farm-to-table
experiences have recently gained popularity, sparking an interest in
food’s
journey from field to fork.
Visitors to the Manitowoc area have a unique opportunity to fuel this curiosity as they investigate the foods they consume and experience agriculture in unexpected ways. A natural starting point for agriculture exploration lies inside the big red barn along Interstate 43. Farm Wisconsin Discovery Center brings to life the story of how food travels from the farm to the table. Farm Wisconsin—named among USA Today’s 10 Best New Attractions— features
10,000 square-feet of hands-on exhibits. Visitors can churn “butter,” drive a combine simulator or dig in kinetic sand while learning about sustainability. The Farm Wisconsin experience also includes a bus or video tour of a modern dairy farm plus a unique birthing barn, where guests have the opportunity to see the miracle of a calf birth.
The farm-to-table theme at Farm Wisconsin comes full circle with the Wisconsin Café — featuring breakfast and lunch items that highlight local agricultural products — as well as the Farm House Store, which carries products like cheese, wine, beer, maple syrup, honey, and 16 flavors of Cedar Crest ice cream
From Farm Wisconsin, visitors can make other stops in the area based on specific curiosities. Unique farm experiences like LondonDairy Alpacas and Pine Crest Historical Village provide one-of-a-kind connections to animals, fiber, and the agricultural processes of bygone days. Inthewoods Sugar Bush allows visitors to explore maple syrup-making processes. Local farmers markets, Newton Meats, Suzie-Q Fish Market, and Wilfert Farms allow food enthusiasts to get up close and personal with food products raised locally. Celebrate “America’s Dairyland” and see how cheese is made at Henning’s Cheese Factory, or enjoy hand-dipped ice cream at the Cedar Crest Ice Cream Factory and Parlor while snapping a selfie with Bernice, the giant fiberglass cow. Shop hundreds of product varieties at Pine River Dairy or commemorate the birthplace of the ice cream sundae by visiting the Historic Washington House’s Berners’ Soda Fountain.
Wine enthusiasts need not travel to Napa Valley to learn about grapes and winemaking. The Manitowoc area has several great options to explore this industry. Walk a vineyard and taste wine made at Silarian Winery and Duck Creek Winery and travel up the coast for more great options. Beer drinkers have several local, authentic watering holes to explore and learn more about beer brewing. The area welcomes visitors to create an adventure to remember through agritourism. Learn about food’s origins, meet genuine people, and experience a delightfully different way of living in the Manitowoc region.
