DREAM and CLEAN HOUSE

Doosan Vina Shares w D oosan Vina considers its role in the community to be that of a neighbor, a good neighbor, one who shares and helps whenever and wherever possible. That is especially true when we find someone in trying and difficult circumstances and like a good neighbor we want share their burden and help carry their load in troubling times. With that spirit in mind the Organizational Culture Department launched two programs “Dream House” and “Clean House” which both support needy families and the elderly in our community to improve their living conditions.

The 4th Dream House

Beginning in 2014 an initiative that is designed to provide a better lifestyle for employees, Doosan Vina begin renovating and upgraded the houses of four employees who were in need of some urgent asssitance. The fourth employee house renovation in the “Dream House” program was started on June 15th and belongs to Nguyen Minh Ngoc. According to Song Chi Wook, Boiler Director, “He has been a reliable and hard working employee for more than seven years, I’m glad that he was choosen for this assistance.” Ngoc’s home is located in Truong Tho hamlet, Tinh Phong commune, Son Tinh district in Quang Ngai Province. The home is 37 metre squares and was

home for eight people for the past 16 years. The original construction was makeshift with low ceilings that make it very hot. It has a living room, one bedroom and a kitchen. According to the team that surveyed the home when deciding which house to chose for the next renovation, “the walls and roof had deteriorated to the point of possible collapse and repair was needed soon.” The family was well aware of the situation but becuase of a tight financial situation, repairs were simply beynd their means. After the team concluded the survey and considered Ngoc’s circumstances, the leader of the Union will provide support for the renovation in the coming months. To date the “Dream House” program has funded the construction and renovation of three employees’ homes investing a total value of 160 million VND or $7,500 plus coutless houses of volunteer labor paid by the company

with the Less Fortunate Dien 3 hamlet, Binh Thuan commune, Binh Son district. For this effort a group of 43 Doosan Vina’s volunteers carried out the refurbishment and upgrade of the family home on the evening of June 29th. The second program was carried out for three other families with extreme circumstances including: Duong Thi Ben who is 85 years old; Nguyen Thi Suu, 68 and Nguyen Thi Xuan, 53 in Tuyet Dien 2 hamlet, Binh Thuan commune. These homes were in such disrepair

that it was more like living outdoors than in a house. The main tasks of the volunteers at each home was to clean, paint walls, repair and replace damaged roofs, install new electrical systems, windows and provide some basic items such as beds, tablea, televisions, kitchen cabinets, blankets and other household needs. Each home in the Clean House program costs aproximately 7.5 million VND or $ 350 not including the company funded labor.

MEET THE TEAM

Operational Excellence; W

I

nnovation is a core concept at Doosan and is a tenet of the company’s credo: “We want to become Global Doosan - Doosan proud - a leading innovator of products and services that improve the quality of life for people and communities worldwide”. At Doosan Vina, innovation is driven by the Operational Excellence (OE) Department. In early 2009, with the completion of construction, the installation of manufacturing equipment for the first products, a need to stablize was the next challenge. And OE Task Force Team Project (OE TFT PJT) was established on April 28th 2009 to answer for the call. To be strong a stool needs three legs and the OE department has created a tripod to build its success on. The first leg is Group Activities or Ban Byol Hoal Dong (BBHD); the second is Production System Improvements (PSI) and the third is Capability Enhancement (CE). BBHD is a group activity for workers in the production groups. Through BBHD, they can share and find solutions to solve their problems in the working processes. BBHD operates and is based on six factors: (1) The need to change themselves, (2) Problem-solving tools, (3) Knowledge / skills, (4) Support (5) Encouragement, and (6) Goals (or Vision).

Monthly Keson visit

To guide the 147 BBHD groups that are in operation around the company, OE attends BBHD meetings every morning or afternoon to help with processes, skills and/or provide feedback. PSI aims to optimize the organizational system & manage the production. The group built and deployed theoretical logic on ERP applications to assess the production capacity (or Productivity) of each stage 14

In the early of 2015, they cooperated with the IT Department to develop the assessment tools of Production Efficiency to meet the demand for servicing business development. In addition, PSI guides the “Lean Transformation” activity that is being applied across the company to en-

By rearranging and improvement the knowledge/skill system into the Lean Academy program, CE works hard to help the staff understand and apply this program. In addition to, the CE activities conducted in the department under the support of the CE there is Cross-training, Practical OJT, Skill Matrix, Roadmap, and more. Parallel with the Capability Enhancement function, two other activities are also important which CE is leads called OE Theme and Smart Office. These activities aim to solve specific problems for engineers and office staff that will improve job performance and production that contributes to meeting productivity targets, quality goals, safety standards and costs

savings for the company. The OE Theme is one of the main activities to reach the target. From 2009 to the end of June 2015 teams across the company created thousands of Kesons and solved thousands of themes. These Kesons helped workers, engineers and staff carry out their work, accurately and safely to complete and achieve business goals as planned. One of them was in the competition and won the Keson championship of the whole of Doosan in 2012. In addition, our Keson’s have also received many high awards in the Quang Ngai Science and Technology Contest over the past several years. Currently the OE department has 11 employees who come from seven provinces in Vietnam that are working hard to lead improvement and innovation at Doosan Vina.
