e Thanh Tuan of EHS gives a thumbs up to the launch of the 2nd Annual “70 Days of Accident Free Production” at Doosan Vina. All employees will wear a ribbon and be doubling their effort to insure that there are no accidents during this period. Last year we successfully complete the 50 days without an accident and EHS will be vigilant to see that this is the second year in a row that we are all safe.

uring the year we celebrated many milestones and among them was the fifth anniversary of our Grand Opening, which was held on May 15th 2009. Since that time we’ve achieved a great deal and grown steadily. We’ve shipped more than a billion dollars’ worth of products to 27 countries worldwide. That includes 6 Power Plant Boilers, eight Desalination plants, 55 Cranes, 900 pieces of Chemical Processing Equipment and 16 Heat Recovery Steam Generators. We’ve grown from zero to nearly 3,000 employees and skill and competency levels have improved day-by-day. And our CSR investment has reached $5.5 million. Finally, one of the most encouraging achievements of the year was that revenue this year exceeded the target by 14% and our production capacity has reached 106%, up 1% when compared with 2013. This year alone we shipped near 25,000 tons of products worth approximately 4.2 trillion VND or $200 million and completed 27 projects. Two other very significant achievements during 2014 was the completion of our ASME nuclear equipment supplier certification. This certification now enables us to enter the small group of global companies that can manufacture this highly critical equipment used in the nuclear power industry. The second highly noteworthy event was that the Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) recognized Doosan Vina for its outstanding Corporate Social Responsibility or CSR programs with a 1st place award. Also over the past year we’ve had a changing of the guard as longtime Director of the Management and HRM Divisions, Kim Gwang Ju passed the torch to Sung Hoon Lee, who will join Kim Yong Soo and become our second Deputy General Director and Chan Up Park also came aboard and will assume the leadership of Human Resources. Kim Gwang Ju, saw the company through some of the early times and trying periods, he will be missed by all and leaves some very large shoes for his successors to fill. Best of luck KJ. On the social front clubs have continued to grow and we ended the year with 28 clubs and 635 members who participating in more than 24 events in 2014. All-in-all it was a very fruitful year and much was accomplished because of the extraordinary efforts that all of Doosan Vina’s employees made during the year. Keep up the good work and we hope that 2015 is an even better year for you, your family and Doosan Vina. On behalf of CEO, Hang Ha Ryu and all at Doosan Vina we wish you a Happy and Prosperous New Year!

NEW DEPUTY GENERAL DIRECTOR
Sung Hoon Lee Explain T he newly appointed Deputy General Director, Sung Hoon Lee assumed responsibility for Administrative Management and Human Resources here at Doosan Heavy Industries Vietnam on December 22nd 2014. To get to Doosan Vina he followed a path that saw him hold senior finance, consulting and human resource management posts in Seoul, London and Hong Kong, before joining Doosan Heavy Industries in Seoul in 2010. A graduate of Yonsei University in Seoul, Lee’s career has spanned more than 25 years. He has been with Doosan Heavy Industries for the past five years, responsible for Global HR in Seoul where he and his team controlled overseas HR Strategy and domestic recruiting. Another project he was deeply involved in and remains committed to, was the global roll out of the Doosan Way. In relation to the Doosan Way he said “In the past there was a lack of consistency and standards, no one can deny the universal value of the Doosan Way, it gives managers and staff a place to go to see what we stand for, what is right and what is not, it gives everyone guidelines to follow and it is

closing the gap between where we are and where we want to be.” Mr. Lee has already made an impact here in Vietnam and demonstrated that he has no intention of simply sitting behind a desk all day and leading from the rear. On his first day on the job he went out to inspect our four cafeterias, several of the restroom facilities and the busses that are used to transport employee to and from their homes. “I wanted to see if there was consistency and all were being treated equally, if not we will address the issues on a one-by-one basis; taking care of basics is foundational and an important part of my philosophy.” We asked Mr. Lee a few questions about his plans; style and experience so far in Vietnam and below we’ve summarized his comments. When asked about his plans he replied, “Our primary goal is to produce the best products at a competitive price that meet and exceed global standards. We want to catch HQ in production and at some point be so strong that HQ is asking us to do work for them because we can do it better and at a more cost effective price.” Lee went on to explain, “We also want to be known as the company that grows the best engineers in all of Asia and over the coming months we’ll be implementing plans that will see that that happens” In relation to his management style Lee said, “I believe in open communication, both topdown and bottom-up, no one should be afraid to deliver bad news, hearing about problems quickly is the best way of solving them before they grow and become worse.”
ns His Plans
And when asked what gives him the greatest sense of accomplishment he said, “of course successful completion of a project is great, but what really gives me that deep-down sense of value is when I can see lives changed, where people are transformed, a completed project is one thing, but when someone evolves that is forever and can have effect on generations to come, so that is where I invest the most energy. “ With a strong background in finance, industry, Human resource and strategic thinking Sung Hoon Lee has strong credentials that when those experiences are fully put into action they will add great value and a new dimension to Doosan Vina’s management team.

ohn Lennon said, “My role in society, or any artist’s role, is to try and express what we all feel. Not to tell people how to feel. Not as a preacher, not as a leader, but as a reflection of us all.” And the 4th annual “Quang Ngai Impressions” 2014 exhibition, hosted by the Provincial Literature and Art Association, was just that, a reflection of life and feeling in Central Vietnam’s Quang Ngai Province. The annual event, which was held this year at the Department of Culture & Sports on October 2nd, was a chance for photographers from all across the province to document for history what life and development is like in Quang Ngai over the last year. They spend months capturing the images that tell the story of Quang Ngai and then put the best of the best on exhibit for all to see. This competition featured the work of 28 professional and amateur photographers and included nearly 300 photos. After four rounds of voting by the Council, 55 photos were put on exhibit and ten of the 55 photos were selected as the best of 2014. NEWS HIGHLIGHTS Limiting Leftovers In order to accomplish two goals simultaneously, the Administration Department launched parallel Kesons that are designed to improve the quality of food at Doosan Vina’s cafeterias. Limited Leftovers is the first Keson or phase of the project. Feeding thousands of employees is an expensive proposition and if we can decrease the waste by 200 kilograms per day we can save 12 M VND per day. Our goal is to reduce the waste while assuring everyone has what they need. If you could see the amount that is thrown out after each meal you’d be very surprised indeed. “So if everyone takes enough, but not too much, then we can save money,” said an Admin employee. And that is where the second Keson comes in which is to improve the quality of the food; by using the savings we can increase the quality without increase the budget for meals so it is a win-win situation. In recent years, the Administrative Department has worked closely with Probank, the cafeteria contractor to improve meals by adding new dishes, hiring better trained cooks and implementing several other procedures to benefit the meal service. This latest effort is yet another plan to continue increasing employee satisfaction.
