Number of lessons Observations-Comments 1

The approach of the topic can be done with photos of a vineyard. The students will be concerned about the way the sun influences the vineyard in a positive way and the importance of the good climate conditions for its growth. Photos, articles, internet videos as well as a field trip to the vineyard will help us study the case. Our aim is to help the students understand the positive influence of the sun and of the ideal climate conditions on the growth of the vineyard as well as the extent to which global warming causes serious consequences to the whole ecosystem.

C. Planning and development

Two experiments will be conducted. The first one will help the students understand the importance of the sun, the good climate conditions and water to the growing and development of the vineyards. We made a small greenhouse where we planted flowers ,we put it in a sunny place and let the plants grow by watering them regularly. As time passed we observed that our plants grew and had a particularly vivid colour. So the students concluded that with the help of the sunlight and of the water the plants flourished. The second experiment took place on the vineyard place which we visited and with the help of the agriculturist and the teacher the students measured the length and the width of the vineyard. The students measured the distance that each vine is planted and it was 1,5m. Then they counted how many vines were planted along the vineyard and figured its length. Length:10x1,5=15m. Then they counted the rows of vines and they multiplied it by two metres which is the distance between the one row from the other and they figured the width. Width: 5x2=10m. Finally by knowing the length and the width we measured the acreage. Acreage: 15x10=150m.

D. Final analysis and explanation of the results

The students will comprehend how important the sun , the water and the good climate conditions are for the growth and development of the vineyard as well as of all plants in general. A discussion will follow later in class about the positive influence of the sun on the whole ecosystem.

The vineyard The students watched What will happen on Earth relevant videos and saw photos from vineyards when the Sun dies? during the production https://www.youtube.com/w season of the grapes. They also listened carefully the atch?v=agriculturist Mr. Ignatiadis, sQTo1ab3MI&t=51s who accompanied us to the vineyard area we visited. https://www.youtube.com/w He talked to the students atch?v=k_Al64sqiUk&t=42s about the importance of the vineyard to humans and to the economy of our island and about the way the sun and the good climate conditions help for the growth and the fruitfulness of the vine. He also talked about the distance that each vine should be planted and also about the way to measure the acreage right. He also said that there are two kinds of vineyards , the free and the grammic one. The vineyard we visited was grammic and he explained that the producers plant it this way because it helps them when they pick the grapes.

D. Evaluation Procedure The students fully understood the positive influence of the sun and the good climate conditions on the growth and production of the vines as well as the way the planting and the measuring are done in order to find the acreage of a vineyard with the videos, the photos , the experiments and the agriculturalist’s lecture . They completely understood how humans and their activities have affected our ecosystem and what measures we should take in order to stop global warming and the disastrous consequences it causes. They also understood the importance of the sun as a source of life for our planet and that without its positive energy there can be neither life nor production in nature. Nowadays, humans should understand the damage they cause on nature and with the progress of technology and the proper law enforcement they could give solutions to stop this catastrophe.
