Summer Travel-Season 2019
Born in the USA Something about summer screams Americana. Maybe it’s that Memorial Day marks the unofficial beginning. Maybe it’s that we celebrate Independence Day right smack dab in the middle of it. Maybe it’s that cut-off jean shorts and the colors of Old Glory are pervasive in wardrobes across the country from May to September. Whatever it is, we feel it too, and we are all about it. This collection embraces the American spirit, from the overt appearances of bald eagles and the American flag, to the slightly more subtle quilting and star-studded shortie boots. It features a strong motif of red accompanied by accents of white and blue, and our graphic tees are peppered with patriotism. We even pay homage to a couple classic country heroes, Willie and Waylon.

“You Say Tomayto, I say Tomahto” How do you pronounce “chaps”? Is it with a “sh” sound, a la “chaperone”, or with a hard “ch”, like “change”?
There is a long-lived debate about which is the right way to say it and why. Some in the “ch” camp declare that pronunciation derives from the word “chapped”, which the garment is, in one sense, intended to prevent. Others on Team “sh” insist that the word is derived from “chaparral” or brush, against which the garment is also intended to protect. Truth be told, both arguments make logical sense, and it turns out, it basically comes down to where you’re from, so we’re not taking sides on this one. (For what it’s worth, what we have pictured here are the shorter version, called “chinks”, with a hard “ch”, no debate.) And don’t even get us started on “PE-can” vs “puh-CAHN”…

Everlasting Americana We’re really kind of in love with Americana. From a design perspective, it’s evergreen and aesthetically appealing. It is easy to wear, easy to pair with, and also ignites a sense of pride and patriotism when you pull it on; it encompasses a lot of the best aspects of putting together an outfit. We have integrated several of the emblems of America into this collection: the flag, the eagle, and stars and stripes. But we particularly enjoyed engaging the ever-iconic red, white and blue, which allowed us to be a little more simplistic in styling with solids and letting the colors speak for themselves.

There’s Something About Thunderbirds From way back in our childhood days of searching out souvenirs, we’ve always had an eye for thunderbirds. And we’re not alone. Whether beaded or embroidered, tooled in leather or etched in silver, iterations of these birds have become widely coveted. We are consistently on the lookout for vintage Fred Harvey era birds to add to our ever-changing online inventory. Thunderbirds are a really fun way to add an element of Southwest Americana and texture, which made them feel like a natural addition to our Independance Day denim jacket.
