Yellowstone If Grand Canyon was born out of wanderlust, Yellowstone was born out of nostalgia. “Our trip to Yellowstone, nearly thirty years ago, is still one of the most memorable of my life,” said DDR designer Cheryl McMullen. “It was my mom, my baby sister, Audrey, and our boys, all piled into a Suburban. It was last minute, low budget, and obviously, low tech. In concepting the Yellowstone collection, I was channeling a strong reminiscence for that simplicity, that connectedness, that appreciation for the outdoors and the miracles of Mother Nature.” The Yellowstone collection is a fresh take on throwback concepts and an homage to the outdoors. It’s a nod to the park’s natural phenomena and storied history, to Old Faithful and Teddy Roosevelt and centuries of cowboy camping. The colors are inspired by everything that surrounds you in the depths of Yellowstone, sulphur pits and sunset shades and forest hues. The pervasive themes are flora and fauna and creek-side cabin adventures; lightweight jackets and wilderness patches and graphic tees that feel like a postcard to home. The Yellowstone collection was inspired by nostalgia and nature; hopefully, it encourages you to get back to it. Get outdoors. Go on an adventure. Sit in the silent, simple magic of Mother Nature.

Wearable Works of Art Double D Ranch has created a lot of memorable pieces over the years, but nothing seems to have quite the lifespan – the timelessness, the longevity, the staying power – of a DDR jacket. “It’s apt, I suppose, considering it was jackets that got us our start,” laughed Cheryl. “But it still amazes and humbles me to see someone cherishing a DDR jacket that’s ten, twenty, twenty-five years old. Whether they’re wearing it, framing it, or heck, even bartering with it, it’s an incredible feeling to know that something we created has held a place in their life – or at least their closet – for such a significant period of time. It reaffirms our dedication to detail and commitment to quality.” So what is it that makes jackets the power pieces of the collection? “From a designer’s perspective, jackets are the ultimate canvas,” Cheryl explained. “Materials, silhouettes, embellishments – the possibilities and combinations are limitless. Our jackets are works of art, and these things are our medium; every stitch is a brushstroke, we put that much passion into them. And jackets fit easier and last longer, so they will always outlive wardrobe pieces; they’re the pièce de resistance and we devote a lot of thoughtful design to each and every one.” From blanket coats to bikers, every DDR jacket in existence was once a sketch on a notepad, made with you gals in mind.

Jock & the Dragonfly If you’ve perused much of our jewelry collection, you’re likely not a stranger to the name Jock Favour. The Arizona native is a renowned and admired jewelry artisan, revered for his commitment to traditional techniques and his use of ingot silver and aged stones. Having been a maker since childhood, his craft is well-honed and his pieces are both intricate and substantial – not to mention, highly collectible. This dragonfly pendant exemplifies his skilled craftsmanship and highlights his selectiveness of stones, adorned with cabochons of fine Fox Turquoise. Of all the bugs we encountered when photographing the Yellowstone collection, we assure you this dragonfly is the only one we wanted to take home.

Bringing It Home We’ve all been spending a lot of time at home lately, and building our nest has taken on a whole new priority. “Pillows are hands-down the most requested and sought-after items in our home collection,” Cheryl said. “It’s been a little while since we’ve designed and created a whole line of them, but everything kind of aligned for a new collection of pillows to come to fruition this fall. WAHOO is a classic wood-and-marble, race-to-the-finish board game with origins dating back a century or more that always seemed to be present in vacation cabins and grandparents’ porches. “My sisters and I spent countless hours around the WAHOO board growing up,” Cheryl said. “We laugh about it now, but Daddy would tap that marble down so hard when he was sending us back to home base and oh man, the pouting! We’re a wee bit competitive. We still have that very board we used to play on all those years ago.” Those memories are priceless, and we believe they need to be made, even in a WiFi world. Signature Scarves Whether you wear them, tie them to your bag, or even frame them, our signature scarves have taken on a life of their own. “Talk about unintended outcomes,” Cheryl laughed. “We had talked about designing a scarf that would complement each collection, but we didn’t really think too far down the road. We didn’t plan on them becoming collector’s items, but that’s essentially what’s happened. Our Wolf Pack has taken to collecting the signature scarf from each line, which I think is great. Years from now, it will be neat to look back on; almost like a scrapbook of scarves commemorating the collections.” And in addition to being an aesthetically satisfying creative hobby, it could, in time, prove to be a valuable one – vintage scarves are highly sought after. It’s never too late to start.

Setting the Scene A lot goes into curating a catalog – you’d be surprised how much of it we bring with us. “We scout locations, of course, a background that suits the theme of the collection,” Cheryl explained. “But as far as staging, the vast majority of what appears in our editorial photography are things that have been carefully selected, collected, or created over several months to really tell the story I want the collection to tell.” From paintings to pieces of furniture, even vintage accessories that complement the collection, every detail is hand-selected, one-of-a-kind, and limited to the collection.
