The Mayor

ROCHELLE ROBINSON Three of the eight elected officials that make up the Douglasville City Council are women: • Dr. LaShun Burr Danley – Ward 3, Post 1 Councilwoman; • Councilwoman Nycole Miller – Ward 2, Post 1 Councilwoman; and • Mayor Rochelle Robinson •

At the Chief Administration level, we have two positions, both led by women:

These are just a few of the shining examples of strong female leaders in our community and unfortunately, there is no way to recognize every one of them. Since I cannot, I want to use this month’s celebration of Women’s History to urge everyone to encourage your sisters, daughters, nieces, mothers, aunts, grandmothers, granddaughters, neighbors, and friends to dream big and achieve bigger! May God bless you, your families, and the City of Douglasville. 

• City Manager Marcia Hampton; and • Assistant City Manager Chelsea Jackson Throughout the month of March, the Library of Congress, National Archives and Records Administration, National Endowment for the Humanities, National Gallery of Art, National Park Service, Smithsonian Institution, and the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum join in commemorating and celebrating the vital role of women throughout American history. We are living in a historic time in the history of our country. With the election of U.S. Senator Kamala Harris as the first African American, first South Asian, and first woman to hold the seat of Vice President of The United States, we have taken a positive step forward as a nation. These big world-changing steps begin at the local level. Over the past decade in our community, we have seen voters embrace diversity and equality at all levels of leadership in our City and County. In 2019 I was blessed to be re-elected, without opposition, to represent Douglasville as Mayor for another four years. It is an honor to be able to continue serving this community and its citizens. Commission Chair Dr. Ramona Jackson-Jones was re-elected with 70% of the votes to continue to serve at the County level in 2020. In the City of Douglasville’s administrative positions, we have several strong female leaders guiding Douglasville into the future. I am proud to say that we are well above the local government sector average of women in leadership roles.

world a better, more fair place for

I am extremely proud that the City of Douglasville is leading the way both statewide and nation-wide in this effort. It has been a privilege to work with these women and all the other female leaders throughout the organization – believe me when I tell you, we have many more women-leaders than the ones I have highlighted! Looking outside of the city organization, I’ve come to realize that we have many more women leaders throughout the Douglasville/Douglas County Community. People like Dot Padgett who has served not only our community, but all Georgians for decades. Sara Ray has served the business community as the President and CEO of the Douglas County Chamber of Commerce. Breezy Straton serves as the Deputy Director of the Economic Development Authority.

that she wanted to help make the women and other minorities. Suzan will be retiring in 2021. When asked what's she most looking forward to post-retirement, she shared that she and her husband will soon become daycare providers for their grandson, who will be born in April. “When we raised our own children we were working fulltime with multiple responsibilities. Now, we will be able to rock the baby for as long as we want, whenever we want.” Suzan, we thank you for all of your contributions over the past 26 years to the City of Douglasville. You will be tremendously missed! 
