WHO WORKS FOR THE CITY?

Each month I would like to introduce you to a City employee. Since it is May and we are celebrating Mother’s Day, I would like to highlight one of the mothers that we have working at the City of Douglasville, April McKown. April has served our citizens for the last seven years. Prior to working in Douglasville, she worked for the Cities of Suwanee and Lawrenceville. Since joining the City of Douglasville team, April served in various capacities such as Main Street Manager, Economic Development Manager, and most currently, Planning Manager. During her time at the City of Douglasville, April has managed several planning studies and influential projects, all in hopes of creating synergy in Douglasville. She has represented the City of Douglasville in multiple capacities as a volunteer with the Douglas County Chamber of Commerce, as a former board member of the Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County, and represented the city on several state committees. Those key relationships earned her accolades such as the 2016 Top Young Professional of Douglas County, University of West Georgia’s 30 under 30 award, the honor of being a 2018 Leadership Douglas class member and was honored as one of West Georgia Magazine’s 40 under 40. April is a proud graduate of the University of West Georgia where she specialized in Urban and Regional Planning. She currently serves her alma mater as the Recruitment Advisor for the phi Kappa chapter of Chi Omega. When she is not serving the citizens of Douglasville, April enjoys spending time with her husband and two beautiful children, Allie Kate (5) and Hank (1). Thank you for everything you do for the City of Douglasville April! 
