The Mayor
Can you believe it is November already? It seems like we were just enjoying summertime and now, Thanksgiving is almost upon us! There is so much for us to be thankful for here at the city of Douglasville. It has been a great year! This is also the time of year when we start moving towards our holiday festivities. As we start our Christmas activities, I’d like to introduce you to this year’s Christmas Family. Pastor Lou Martinez serves as the Missions Pastor at Crossroads Church. He is married with three kids and three grandchildren and has lived in Douglasville ever since he visited his sister in 2004. He served in the military for 24 years and retired in 2007. In his role as the Missions Pastor, he is responsible for all local and global ministries. He also served as the CEO of the DANNY Center (Developing and Nurturing Needy Youth), a nonprofit organization that partnered with the Douglas County Juvenile probation office and Juvenile courts from 20132017. Crossroads Church has served the community in many different ways. Some examples include: providing a mobile pantry where they have served over 360 families and between 10-15 thousand pounds of food each month

ROCHELLE ROBINSON for the past five years. They have adopted a senior community village (Senior Highland Village) that has 52 senior residents and provided them with food from the pantry each month. The church has provided financial assistance, marriage counseling, Thanksgiving outreach, and Operation Christmas, providing children on the school lunch program with a toy or two for Christmas. They have partnered with community nonprofit organizations to support them and their missions like the women’s shelter, men’s shelter, and many more. This only briefly touches on the many things that the Church does for our community! Pastor Martinez’s favorite thing about our great city is its growth and diversity! He is also looking forward to relaxing and spending time with family and friends this holiday season.
