Jade Yenlin is from London/ St. Thomas but you will always find her at the beach with her twin sister or sidekick (her dog) Bodhi. Jade loves going on trips, anything to do with water (paddle boarding, snorkeling, or just tanning on the dock), or getting cozy watching a scary movie on a rainy night in. She also loves pop culture and film!

No one ever asks us for less daylight in their basement, so there are even lots on Hickory Lane that offer Daylight Basements! Back yard fencing and decks completed for the day of move in. There are lots on Hickory Lane that would fit that requirement as well!

Now, this makes it seem like there must still be many available options on Hickory Lane ~ but there are not. At the time of this writing, there are only 4 lots to choose from! Miller’s Pond

When you’ve been out for a drive in the Miller’s Pond community, you will certainly have noticed a lot of activity, especially on Silverleaf Path. Trucks, cranes, cement mixers and bobcats are all part of a busy, brand-new area. With each SOLD sign that goes up, we’re a little closer to a completed phase.

That being said, building from the ground up is not for everyone. Timing is often an issue-so we’ve got the perfect solution for that! Homes that are complete and are ready to move into. Let us know if you’re on the hunt for a summer move in date.

Since Miller’s Pond is still in its infancy, its important to continue to keep an eye on the new grass and the trees. As much as its rained, it’s been super hot too!

Recipe of the Month

Company Fruit Salad

Ingredients

4 medium Golden Delicious apples, diced

4 medium Red Delicious apples, diced

2 cups seedless green grapes, halved

2 cups seedless red grapes, halved

1 can (20 ounces) pineapple chunks, drained

1 can (11 ounces) mandarin oranges, drained

Dressing Ingredients

3 ounces cream cheese, softened

1/2 cup sour cream

1/2 cup mayonnaise

1/2 cup sugar

Directions

1. In a large bowl, combine the first 6 ingredients.

2. In a small bowl, beat dressing ingredients until smooth.

3. Pour over fruit; toss gently to coat.

Hello Summer, hello sunshine! It is time to get out and enjoy those outdoor spaces. Whether that might be a cozy front porch with a relaxing spot to curl up and read a great book, or an outdoor entertainment area for you to socialize with friends and family. Whatever it is, it is important to make it your own and make the space function as you and your family need. We like to accent our outdoor spaces with comfortable furniture, that not only serves a function of providing seating and dining space, but that also adds a pop of colour to accentuate your Exterior façade. We recommend pulling in a bold colour for items like your planter pots or outdoor cushions to add life to your space. Also, utilizing shade elements like umbrellas and mesh sails will help to provide the much needed element of shade for the hot summer days. Often, these can be installed in fun bright colours, but for these elements, we prefer to keep them neutral as to blend in with the façade and let the cushions and other elements be the bold accents. But in the end whatever your style or needs, the most important thing is that you are creating a space that allows your to enjoy the outdoors, because in Canada these beautiful summer days are fleeting and soaking in the sun before it is gone is key!

A message from our President

There has been a great deal of speculation about what the Volkswagen battery plant announcement means for St. Thomas and area.

With a projected 3,000 direct jobs at the facility and an estimated 30,000 additional indirect jobs in the supply area, there is no doubt that this will have a transformational impact upon our community, as well as the many other surrounding communities where people will choose to live, work, play and generally enjoy our wonderful quality of life.

Volkswagen officials have been very clear that our community trails, quality of housing and what our community has to offer were significant contributing factors in their choosing St. Thomas for this historic investment.

Certainly, as a homebuilder, such an unprecedented investment in our community will present challenges to both meet the demand and meet our expectations of performance. Here at DTL we are having regular quality control training meetings to ensure that the quality of our homes not only does not diminish, but that we continue on the path of continual improvement.

This is one of the reasons that I wrote my upcoming book “From Bleeding Edge to Leading Edge: A Builders Guide to Net Zero Homes”, because I recognized the need for a blueprint of how to build more sustainably. I was originally commissioned by Natural Resources Canada to write this guide back in 2019, so it’s with a great sense of accomplishment, and a little bit of impatience, that I work through the publisher’s edits so we can finally share the book with the builder community and industry stakeholders.

But this investment in our community represents another historic opportunity; a once in a lifetime chance to expand our community trail network along the east, north and central parts of St. Thomas. Two summers ago, during the height of covid, there were over 1 million users of the trail network within St. Thomas. These are trails that did not exist 10 years ago. This usage is a testament of the Field of Dreams concept “If you build it, they will come”.

At Doug Tarry Homes, we look forward to these opportunities and the challenges that they represent as we continue to build and develop housing and communities that people are proud to call home.
