We're excited to share all the heartwarming moments and fantastic team-building activities that have made August a busy month here at Doug Tarry Homes.

1. Swinging into Fun at the Company Golf Tournament: We took a swing at team bonding during our annual Company Golf Tournament. With your participation, the event was a roaring success, bringing together over 90 of our talented colleagues for a day of camaraderie and friendly competition. Hats off to each of you for making it a memorable day. A big shoutout to Smoking Caboose for adding a delicious touch to our golf tournament with their mouthwatering food. We also have to commend your appetites – Smoking Caboose’s generous portions met their match in our team's appetite! The prize table was loaded with fantastic prizes, congrats to all our winners!

3. Nourishing Our Neighbors: A Food Drive that Matters: Our commitment to community involvement was strong this month. We joined hands with local partners and myFM for a Food Drive that saw great results. Thanks to your generosity, the Abode Home Comfort van was overflowing with donations, making a significant impact on families in need. As the local food bank highlighted, these donations are more essential than ever, with increasing numbers relying on their support.

4. Empowering Education with Back to School Drive: As we gear up for the coming month, we're excited about our Back to School Supply Drive on August 23rd. Recipe of the Month

Slow-Cooker Lasagna

Ingredients

1 pound ground beef

2 garlic cloves, minced

1 cup water

1 teaspoon salt

1-1/2 cups 4% cottage cheese

1 package (8 ounces) no-cook lasagna noodles

4 cups shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese

Directions

1 large onion, chopped

1 can (29 ounces) tomato sauce

1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1. In a skillet, cook beef and onion over medium heat until meat is no longer pink. Add garlic; cook 1 minute longer. Drain. Stir in the tomato sauce, water, tomato paste, salt and oregano.

2. Spread a fourth of the meat sauce in an ungreased 5-qt. slow cooker. Arrange a third of the noodles over sauce (break the noodles to fit if necessary). Combine cheeses; spoon a third of the mixture over noodles. Repeat layers twice. Top with remaining meat sauce.

3. Cover and cook on low for 4-5 hours or until noodles are tender.

Decor Trends

A Kitchen is a space that serves many purposes within the home. It is often the hub of the home, where people gather. While it can be a beautiful feature within your home, there are things to keep in mind to ensure your stunning Kitchen also functions efficiently:

1) Ample walking space on all four sides of your Island – Allowing a minimum of 42” walking space around your island will allow appliances to open without hitting other cabinetry.

2) Drawers and roll out shelving – Although typically drawers are more expensive than a traditional cabinet door, as they require more materials and hardware to produce. They also are more functional. They allow for easier access to Kitchen supplies, better organization and prevent the leaning Tower of Piza of bakeware that often occur in cabinets, making it difficult to access the items you need without pulling everything out and having it topple out onto you.

3) Working Kitchen Triangle – this might be the most important thing of all to help make your design more efficient. The working triangle is a design theory that has been around for decades. Essentially, imagine drawing a line from the center of your sink to the center of your cooking surface, and then to your center of your refrigerator and back to your sink to complete the triangle. The sum length of all three sides should not exceed 26ft. The ideal number for your triangle is 18ft, with 26ft being the maximum. By keeping within Kitchen essentials within an arm’s reach you can easily access them without stopping the flow of your work within the space. the Decor team

Over and above being a marketing slogan, The Doug Tarry Difference is actually something we discuss with our team regularly as it is the guiding principle of our company’s core values. To say that it’s like spreading magic pixie dust that gives us a great result would diminish the intense planning and hard work that goes into differentiating ourselves from other builders, but we do know there is a bit of magic in what we have accomplished and what we stand for. Simply put, I feel very blessed to work with such a dedicated group of people who help to make the magic happen.

As we near the 70th anniversary of Doug Tarry Homes, it’s a great opportunity to reflect on what we’ve accomplished, what we stand for, and on our hopes for the future.
