Estate History Dover Hall is Central Virginia’s Premier Destination for Unrivaled Events, Boutique Lodging, and Thoughtful Cuisine. Originally built as a private residence by Dennis and Cindy Pryor in 2000, this 33,000 square foot marvel sits on 55 rolling acres. The house was designed to resemble an English style Tudor castle with heavy Gothic influences, as both the Pryors graduated from the University of Richmond. Prior to breaking ground in 1996, the family hired two local partners to handle the architecture and interior design, Spangler and Associates and Yoggy Crow Inc., respectively. Spangler suggested English Country due to the uniqueness of their vision and the grand scale of Dover Hall. For two years, Yoggy and Crow traveled throughout Europe and sourced the vast majority of all décor, paintings, fireplace mantels, and furnishings from estates and auctions. “Before the first brick was ever laid, we had most of the furnishings and accessories . . . Some pieces in warehouses, some were in storage in Europe and some were in transit,” Pryor said. The two firms then worked together to build an exact model of the home, placing furniture, fixtures, and everything in each room. Amazingly, once they finalized the plan, very few adjustments were made during the build. The end result is a breathtaking Goochland castle that is an homage to 19th century European history yet simultaneously boasts modern amenities.
Estate History In July of 2017, local restauranteurs, Jeff Ottaviano (The Wine Loft) and Chad Hornik (The Melting Pot), assumed management of the property. Their vision is to create an unparalleled guest experience through unforgettable events and upscale lodging. With indoor/outdoor event space for up to 400 guests, this all-inclusive venue makes planning your next holiday party, meeting, poolside cookout, or team building event seamless and stress-free. Under the culinary leadership of Executive Chef Lee Hendrickson (Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyards, Keswick Hall, Red Pump Kitchen), Dover Hall offers delectable cuisine that is innovative but approachable. Keeping in line with the Pryors original vision to hire local, Chef is laser focused on farm to table, utilizing many of the finest food and beverage purveyors throughout Virginia. One bite of Chef Lee’s food or a short conversation and you will quickly realize his passion for scratch made cuisine. Dover Hall celebrated its first birthday under new leadership on July 2, 2018 with the grand opening of their bed and breakfast. The home contains ten elegantly appointed and spacious lodging suites, each with a unique dÊcor theme. During your stay, guests may enjoy use of the entire home and a variety of activities including a premium glass of wine in the Wine Cellar, a game of pool in the Billiards Room, a quiet read in the two story Library, soft piano music in the Great Room, or a refreshing dip in the Reflecting Pool.

Featuring walls of hand painted faux stone, custom made Gothic chandeliers with color changing bulbs, the room is highlighted by an incredible sandstone fireplace mantel with life size lions sourced from an 1800’s Scottish estate. This room features a hand-carved 24-foot Italian table, two original wall paintings depicting historical gatherings, and a gorgeous fireplace mantel circa 1893. Above, you will marvel at the Italian barrel vaulted ceiling with hidden lighting and a pair of 1830 French chandeliers. GREAT ROOM – Located just off the Formal Kitchen, this space can be used for cocktail receptions or plated dinners up to 36 guests. The double-facing brick fireplace features an oak mantel dating from the 17th century. BLUE STONE TERRACE – Embrace the outdoor serenity of Dover Hall on its 6800 square foot Terrace located directly behind the castle. This area features rattan lounge areas, wrought iron seating, and two fire pits. Enjoy use of the adjacent stone-walled gardens by day, bistro lights and country skies by night. Meet the chef
Originally from Greenwood Lake, New York, Chef Lee grew up in Fluvanna County with a large Italian family where the kitchen was always busy and his first cooking lessons came straight from Grandma. He started his hospitality career as a dishwasher at age 15 and quickly moved into cooking, landing his first “real” gig in the four star Fossett’s Restaurant at Keswick Hall. Working under Chef Dean Maupin, Lee nurtured his passion for food and began reading everything he could get his hands on to truly understand the mechanics of cooking: not just the how, but why dishes and procedures make sense. In 2013, he joined the Easton Porter Group as the Sous Chef at Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyards. Two years later, his good friend and Executive Chef Amalia Scatena approached Lee to open another EPG restaurant in Charleston, SC. Thus Cannon Green was born with Lee as the Sous Chef managing both banquet and a la carte operations. Shortly thereafter, they presented him the opportunity to graduate to the Executive Chef position by opening a Mediterranean inspired restaurant in downtown Charlottesville, Red Pump Kitchen. After building a fabulous name for himself and the various restaurants he led, he was hand-picked to join the Dover Hall team. Chef Lee is laser focused on farm to table, presenting delectable foods that are innovative but approachable. One bite of his food or a quick conversation and you will quickly realize his passion for scratch made cuisine.

Client testimonials Dover Hall is under new ownership and management now. I have attended three events there in the last six months and recommend this venue highly for weddings or any event. The home is grand, service is superb, food has been delicious, and you just can't help but feel special the moment you step through that Grand Front Door. January 23, 2018 What an amazing place! My best friend Sarah and I attended the murder mystery masquerade last night and we loved and enjoyed every second of it! The atmosphere was amazing and the staff incredible friendly and funny! We will be back for sure! Thank you Dover Hall for this unforgettable night! January 28, 2018 One word: Magical! If you want an experience like no other go check out Dover Hall. I attended recent wine dinner. OMG amazing food, ambience, and service. How often do you get personal attention from the owners. Both Jeff and Chad genuinely care. It won't disappoint. We will be back for another wine dinner for sure!! March 15, 2018 Every time you think you’ve seen the most beautiful thing, you round the corner and you’ve been proven wrong. March 23, 2018 Just WOW. You really won't know what I'm talking about until you see this place. Pictures will not do it justice. It's just an incredible place to see . . . March 30, 2018 After a detailed, historical tour of the GORGEOUS property we sat down for a very creative and delicious five course dinner. Fantastic chef! Loved the real candles burning all down the elegantly set dining table. The service was spot on. Not intrusive while always available and attentive. I cannot wait to get back to stay an evening in the Estate and enjoy all it has to offer! Thank you Chad and Jeff!! April 3, 2018 Dover Hall is an absolutely stunning setting. My daughter had a wedding event last week and the owners could not have been kinder or more helpful . . . I could picture a productive and fun retreat in this setting so close to Richmond yet removed from day to day. A cozy bar area, breakout rooms . . . and the wide outdoors for games would be terrific. Just cannot say enough thanks to the management staff for the great event they gave us. May 18, 2018 Beautiful home, beautiful location, wonderful people and outstanding service . . . Definitely plan on coming back, even though we are local, when they open the Bed and Breakfast. So worth it! May 30, 2018
