ABOUT DOWNTOWN DETROIT PARKS The Downtown Detroit Partnership (DDP) is at the forefront of Detroit’s transformation through public space development and programming that advance the city’s residential and business communities. With almost 100 years of placemaking experience, DDP knows what it takes to create and maintain awardwinning public spaces continues to look for ways to innovate programming each year.
DDP produces a wide variety of free events, programs, classes and amenities that appeal to all Downtown audiences. More than 1,600 free seasonal and ongoing annual programs reflect the diversity of Detroit’s neighborhoods and communities, featuring local and national talent and celebrating the spirit of the city. DDP programs attract over 2 million visitors annually. DDP is responsible for managing, operating and programming Downtown Detroit parks and public spaces, in cooperation with the City of Detroit and the Detroit Parks and Recreation Department.

Grand Circus Park anchors both a growing residential neighborhood and the Downtown Detroit entertainment district. Change is coming to Capitol Park! A permanent renovation of the park, situated in one of Detroit’s oldest neighborhoods, is scheduled for 2019. Until then, the Downtown Detroit Partnership and Lear Corporation are thrilled to offer a sneak peek of the redesign this summer will feature more green elements in a central lawn, tree canopy and hedge garden. Working closely with district property owners, residents and stakeholders, the DDP alongside design firm Public Work has developed a plan that will support growing residences and retail while paying homage to the park’s storied history. Capitol Park is the site of Michigan’s first capitol building and burial place of the state’s first governor Stevens T. Mason. It was also home to Finny Barn, one of the final stops along the Underground Railroad.

THE WOODWARD ESPLANADE Woodward Avenue
Formerly a simple median, the Woodward Esplanade allows pedestrians to take in the skyline along a playful path that extends from the south end of Campus Martius Park to Larned Street. The boulevard connects Downtown Detroit to the Riverfront and houses the last southbound stop for the QLINE (Congress Street Station).
