NORTHSIDE OKTOBERFEST 2016
We are Beer
September 24, 2016 21 years. If the Iowa City Brewfest was an infant back in 1995, it would be able to legally drink this year! The beer culture has come a long way since 1995. Back then, there were a few microbrews that were starting to make slight inroads here in Eastern Iowa, but the market was still heavily bent towards the macro brews that, until just years ago, had a strangle hold on the beer market. Our oldest micro-brewery in Iowa, Millstream, was in its second decade in business, Goose Island was just starting to come this far west and Samuel Adams was occasionally found on the shelves at John’s. Guinness was a beer exceding the tastes of most consumers, Samuel Smith was a curiosity and no one besides the folks around the breweries really knew anything about Lambic, Oude Bruins or Berliner Weisses.
Introducing our latest collaboration with Peace Tree Brewing
Now here we are, 21 glorious years later. and dozens of micro-breweries have joined Millstream in the ever-growing Iowa brew movement. Iowa micro-brews are winning awards and gaining recognition across county, while others have established the goldstandard around the world. We’ve also seen some of the finest classic beer styles from Cantillion, Westvleteren, Ayinger and thousands more on Iowa shelves. From near and very far, we’ve been able to bring you some of the best beers that have ever been created. Why, why, why is it that in the middle of the good ol’ USA, smack dab here in river city, that some of the best beers across the globe are found? Simple answer: it’s you (and us). We’ve built something amazing here. We’ve educated beer lovers that have an unquenchable thirst for great beer. We’ve built some of the most amazing bonds with our breweries and the distributors that bring them here. We’ve forged some of the strongest relationships with you, our loyal customers, and it’s you, that have made all of this possible.

DO
assign a designated driver. We want you to enjoy all the beer your heart desires, but we want to keep you and those around you safe. Everyone can come in and enjoy the festival, but only those with tickets and wristbands cand drink. If your designated driver gets thirsty, buy them a mug for soda samples on N. Linn St. In addition to the buses, cab services will be available in the area.
DO
bring the whole family. There is no age requirement for having fun, but remember, only 21+ get to drink. A valid ID will be required for wristbands.
DO
behave accordingly. We want everyone to enjoy themselves with all that Oktoberfest has to offer. If things get out of hand, you will be asked to leave the event.
DO
check the morning weather report. Rain or shine, the event will take place. Come prepared for whatever Mother Nature decides to throw our way!
DON’T
drop your glass. You are given one complimentary glass when you enter the event. If you break it, you buy it (a new glass that is).
DON’T
smoke. Smoking (including electronic cigarettes) in the Oktoberfest area is not permitted by state and city law. If you must smoke, mosey over to an area outside of the festival.
DON’T
take alcohol outside of the festival. You don’t want to find out what happens when you do!
