id I tell you I‟m a basketball fan? And loving basketball, there‟s nothing I like better than when my team comes from behind. One of my favorite come-from-behind stories was when the Pistons were winning in the third quarter, and the Bulls came from behind to whip their butts big time. Now I‟ve got a new come-from-behind story. See, on the night of Tuesday, November 3, I sat, utterly frustrated, as CNN, MSNBC, the AP and of course, Fox News called state after state for Donald Trump. He took Texas,, South Carolina, Florida, Ohio. I was seeing red! That was the color of the electoral map – with a few blue spots here and there. I couldn‟t take it anymore. I went to bed feeling defeated, thinking how could this happen? How could there be this many racist people in the United States? How could that many people not care that he is a liar, with no regard to the Constitution and no respect for any individual other than himself? I woke up the morning of Wednesday! November 4 and much to my joy, Joe Biden was coming from behind. I watched all day and the next day and the next as Trump‟s lead melted away. It reminded me of that Evillene, the witch that Dorothy threw water on in the Wiz and she said “I‟m melting! I‟m melting!” as she disappeared into nothingness. I imagined Donald Trump following the same type of

He has so far filed lawsuits in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Arizona and Georgia, and so far all of them have been dismissed – except a lawsuit saying the observers were not allowed to stand close enough to the people tallying the vote. The judge ordered them to be allowed to stand closer. He sent a tweet claiming he won and claiming that observers were not allowed in the room where votes were being counted (which was not true), and they were doing some “very bad things” which his observers could not see. Meanwhile, his firing of top officials in the Department of Defense and Homeland Security, and filling those positions with inexperienced Trump loyalists makes the See Publisher’s Notes on Pg 25

FLINT FARMER
The Murder of Flint Farmer
E
mmett Farmer was proud of his only son, Flint. He had two daughters, whom he loved very much, but every father needs a son. At 29 years old, Flint was a typical Black young man living on Chicago‟s South Side, working at the Sav-A-Lot Grocery store in Chicago‟s Chatham community. He had a girlfriend, and they had an on-again, off-again relationship. One thing that kept them together was their mutual love for their two-year
old daughter. But as much as they both loved their daughter, they often disagreed as to whose turn it was to stay with the baby. One evening in June, 2011, what began as a passionate argument, turned into a physical fight and police were called. When the police arrived, Flint ran out of the back door, and Officer Gilardo Sierra ran after him and found him hiding in some bushes. Upon being discovered, Flint came out of hiding only to run again. Finally he realized that he couldn‟t outrun this cop, so Pg4 MAE MAGAZINE | November 2020

he turned to face Sierra, hands in the air, cell phone in his hand. Sierra commanded him to drop the phone and after Flint didn‟t comply, Officer Sierra shot the phone out of his hand, then shot him in the wrist, then shot him two more times in the side, causing Flint to fall to the ground, face down. As the wounded Flint lay on the ground, Officer Gilardo Sierra walked up to him and fired three more shots. The coroner determined that it was one of those three bullets to his back that pierced his heart and killed

prosecute and refused to recues herself and appoint a special prosecutor. Yet Emmett Farmer holds out hope that the murderer of his only son will someday be brought to justice. After all he says, “Kim Foxx won‟t be the last States Attorney in Illinois, and there‟s no statute of limitations on murder.”

him. Flint Farmer was not Officer Sierra‟s first victim. Months before that he had also been responsible for the fatal shooting of another African American, Darius Pinex for nothing more than being in a car that Sierra erroneously thought fit the description of a car the police were after. And he wounded Pinex‟s friend, Matthew Colyer. As Flint‟s father, Emmett pointed, out, Sierra bragged, “Yeah, I shot all of them and their dog, too.” What gives a policeman who murders an unarmed Black man the license to be arrogant? The murder of Flint Farmer was not a “he-said-she-said” type of event. It was not dependant on word of mouth. There was a video. There was a video of Flint Farmer lying on the ground and Sierra walking up to him and deliberately shooting him three more times. And in spite of that video, Anita Alvarez refused to prosecute him because she said he feared for his life. How do you fear

SELF AWARENESS
What is law of attraction?
3- Meditation
The Law of attraction is the holistic practice of aligning your own energy with that of the universe to manifest your desired state of life. In this process, you can manifest anything such as money or happiness. In simple words, whatever you focus on, you will attract that in your life because of the power of your thoughts.
4- Binaural Beats
Meditation is akin to visualization, however, in this technique, you can also be in a state of emptiness. This means that you do not have to necessarily visualize your ideals, rather you enter a peaceful state where your energy is calling out to the universe and abundance.
A crucial aspect of this practice is to believe and behave as if you already have achieved what you desire. For example, if you want to travel to another country, then you start to visualize yourself living there. Spiritual leaders such as Neville Goddard have advocated this idea since olden times.
Binaural beats are made up of frequencies that attract the frequencies that you require to utilize law of attraction for your ideal reality. In this process, all you have to do is go on Youtube and search for manifestation music or law of attraction binaural beats. While listening to this music, you can sleep or visualize what you want.
What is the idea behind the law of attraction?
Some things to keep in mind
If you are a skeptic, then all this may seem bizarre to you. But the reality is that ignoring this practice simply means that you are denying a whole dimension that is in existence.
Law of attraction is very intuitive. As you learn more about it, your spiritual self opens up along the way. Most of the things you would be doing from here onwards will be based on your gut feeling, and hence will be the right fit for you. Nevertheless, there are few tips to keep in mind regarding law of attraction.
The idea is that you have an infinite amount of energy and power that you can use to bring virtually anything into existence. By using the power of your thoughts, you can raise your vibrational levels and make your manifestation process even faster. We are all made up of energies and we respond to frequencies intuitively. When we set our intentions to our goals, we are essentially aligning our energy with that of the universe.
What are some of the techniques you can use? 1- Visualisation
- Avoid using negative affirmations, i.e., no or not. So, when you are thinking of changing something, instead of using sentences like „I do not want bad marks‟, you say „I want good marks‟. This is because, in law of attraction, words such as „no‟ are canceled out. - Everything must be manifested in the present times. Just like there is an absence of the concept of „no‟, there is also no concept of past or future. Everything you manifest must be in present tenses. For example, instead of saying „ I want to be rich in the future‟, you say, „ I am rich‟.
This is by far the most powerful technique. In this, you simply take some time and imagine your desires. This visualization process should be as realistic and vivid as possible. Doing this every day can help you come closer to your ideal reality.
- Lastly, have faith! Belief is the core of law of attraction. Believe in yourself and your world and witness the magic that will unfold. Remove any seeds of doubt and strengthen your belief system.
2- Journaling
Allow light and love to enter your life with law of attraction! Open yourself up to a new dimension and world with infinite opportunities, happiness, and abundance. Now you can also be on a journey of growth and development with the techniques and tips mentioned in this beginner‟s guide.
Another simple yet powerful technique is journaling. In this technique instead of imagining your ideal reality, you write it down in your diary. Writing on a paper and expressing your gratitude helps in manifesting your goals.
May God bless you!

oe Biden has become the 46th American President, and the oldest person ever to come into the office of the presidency. His historic election led to a sigh of relief shared nationally as well as internationally. For years to come, historians will mark this occasion as the end of an error – a horrendous mistake that pitted people against people, race against race and party against party. Many people feared that America was on the brink of becoming a fascist nation, under the dictatorship of a racist, xenophobic mental midget who fed his loyal base of white supremacists and conspiracy theorists daily messages of hate and division through his daily tweets. Joe Biden has vowed that he will heal the nation. That‟s a tremendous task when the Trump supporters and Trump himself have threatened civil war. Joe Biden will take the oath of office on January 20, 2021, faced with the awesome task of healing a divided nation, regaining the trust and friendship of our allies, and bringing a deadly pandemic to its conclusion. This election is historic in another sense, because it brings to
the office of the Presidency the first Black Vice President and the first Female Vice President ever to be second in command of this great nation. Born in the United States to a Jamaican father and Indian mother, Vice President Harris is an alumni of Howard University, and a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. It is also historic in that we now have a Vice President who is a co-sponsor of the Senate Bill 1083, better known as the Reparations bill. Sadly, President-elect Biden‟s greatest ally in this election has been the deadly Covid-19 pandemic that has taken over a quarter of a million American lives. One week before the election, Trump‟s administration announced that they would not try to control the pandemic. President-elect Biden, with the help of the medical experts from the CDC and other sources, has vowed to bring it under control as his first order of business. It was a hard-fought election, full of Trump‟s threats, failed October surprises, and Republican voter suppression tactics, but the American people delivered a clear victory for Mr. Biden, and Americans everywhere as well as democracy-loving people throughout the world have a lot to celebrate.

HONORING OUR HEROS
HONORING OUR HEROES:
James Shaw, Jr.
J
ames Shaw, Jr. didn‟t set out in life to be a hero. Actually, he set out to be an electrician. Even before he became a student at Hunters Lane High School in his hometown of Nashville, Tennessee, James was taking things apart and putting them back together. After graduating from Hunters Lane, he attended Tennessee State University where he got a degree in electrical engineering, and then, while working at AT&T as a wire technician, he got an Electrical Technician degree from Brightwood College. He is currently still a wire technician at AT&T, and he also manages his own business, IMount Electric. That‟s the kind of background one would have if they wanted to be a success, but not exactly the kind you would go for if you were aspiring to be a hero. Maybe in that case he might have pursued experience in combat fighting, or military training, but James Shaw,Jr. didn‟t go that route. He said the most fighting he has done was battling with his baby daughter every night to get her to go to bed. So on that Saturday night in April, James Shaw, Jr. didn‟t go out in pursuit of a fight. He and his friend Brennan McMurray having been out that night, were in pursuit of a bite to eat, and they decided to go to the Waffle House. The first Waffle House was too crowded, so they went to a second one on Murfrees-
boro Pike in Antioch. Unfortunately, that was the same Waffle House that Travis Reinking chose to go to that evening, only he wasn‟t going for a bite to eat, his reasons were much more nefarious. Armed with an AR-15 rifle, and wearing only a jacket that didn‟t do a very good job of covering up his otherwise naked body, Travis shot a couple of people outside of the restaurant, before entering and continuing his shooting spree. James‟ immediate reaction was to head for the bathroom for cover, but as a bullet grazed his elbow on the way to the bathroom he realized that there was only one way in and one way out of the bathroom, and he began to weigh his options. Being a hero wasn‟t one of them, but as he saw the gunman lower his rifle, either to reload or because it was jammed, he decided to take a chance and go for it. He rushed out of the bathroom and hit the gunman with the door (yes, the gunman was that close to James‟ bathroom shelter) and then he grabbed the gun. “All I wanted to do was get the rifle out of the way,” James said. Once he accomplished that, he threw the rifle over the counter, burning the palm of his hand on the red hot barrel of the AR-15 in the process. James said the gunman had the nerve to complain to him about taking his gun away. “After I got the gun, he was just like – he acted like I was in the wrong,” Shaw said, “And I was like, „I‟m just

trying to live.‟ ” James declared that he is no hero. But to the many people whose lives were saved that night, he certainly is a hero. He said that his actions were “selfish.” “I was only trying to save myself,” he said. “I can walk away from a burned hand and a man‟s nudity,‟ he said, “But a couple of bullet holes, you might not be able to walk away from that.” He was a hero, even to the four he couldn‟t save, establishing a Go Fund Me for their families, which as of May, 2018, had raised over $200,000. James Shaw, Jr. didn‟t consider himself a hero, but many others did. He was honored by the president of Tennessee State University, who praised him for his “bravery and courage” and for saving many lives. Tennessee State University is setting up a scholarship fund in his name. He was honored by Tennessee lawmakers, who passed a joint resolution honoring his actions. He appeared on national cable TV news shows and was honored at a game featuring the Nashville Predators. He appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show where he met NBA basketball star, Dwayne Wade. The Steve Harvey Show sent him on a trip to the Island of Barbados. In May, 2018 he met with Emma Gonzalez, an anti-gun activist who helped to found Never Again MSD, and a survivor of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, At the 2018 MTV Movie and TV

aking every morning to the reality of „pandemic livingâ€&#x;; puts a mental strain on many folks. The challenge to stay positive is masked with streams of video calls and online Bingo. Working from home in the new normal is showing increased cases of burnout and depression as families adjust to virtual learning for students across the country. Positive thinking, or an optimistic attitude, is the practice of focusing on the good in any given situation. It can have a significant impact on your physical and mental health. An optimistic attitude simply means you approach the good and the bad in life with the expectation that things will go well. There is a link between your thoughts and
your health. Therefore, there are great benefits to a positive mindset. Consider the impact on your pain threshold when you practice positive thinking. According to webmd, com, staying upbeat can lower your blood pressure and reduce your chances of a heart attack. A positive mindset also impacts your mental health by increasing your creativity and influencing a better mood. So, try embracing a positive mindset and be more optimistic this week. According to Psychologytoday.com, optimists have healthier outlooks and tend to live longer than their more pessimistic counterparts; they also are less susceptible to the negative effects of illness, fatigue, and depression. Give it a try! Maria A. Glover-Wallace, Ph.D.

Defeating Cancer Naturally
E
veryone worries sometime in their life that they have cancer. You get a sudden pain you never had before and you think it‟s cancerous. Or, you listen to other people‟s symptoms and suddenly, you begin to experience those same symptoms, at least they exist in your mind. Too many folks are in constant fear because they think cancer happens randomly and there‟s nothing that can be done to prevent it. I believe the fear of cancer has a lot to do with overweight people continuing to be overweight. We have been told that one of the first signs of cancer is weight lost. So when a person begins to lose weight, although on the one hand they want and need to lose, they become afraid. To prove to themselves and their friends that they do not have cancer, they go back to their old ways and pile the pounds on. Having knowledge and understanding of how our bodies work and how cells become cancerous will hopefully alleviate any fear you may have of losing weight. Cancer is indeed an enemy to our health. As with any enemy,
once we understand how it operates, we will be able to build our defenses. Think of your body as a building, and cancer is the enemy always trying to get into the building and destroy it. If the building is surrounded by highly trained armed guards, the enemy will have a tough time getting in. But, sometimes the enemy will find a small loophole – maybe an unmanned door, or an open window – and will sneak into the building. The good news is, when the building is extremely well defended, once the enemy is spotted, it can be gotten rid of in no time. You may have to increase the number of guards, supply them with more ammunition and bring in extra troops, but you will be victorious in the end. On the other hand, if the building is left completely vulnerable, then the enemy can walk right in and begin its destructive actions. Then you‟ll need to employ the armed guards you never had before, plus the extra troops, along with a team to begin repairing the damage and rebuilding. The armed guards represent your correct diet, along with necessary supplements. The extra troops represent the extra teas,
Pg16 MAE MAGAZINE | November 2020
HEALTH & WELLNESS herbs and homeopathic supplements that you don‟t normally take on a daily basis, but you will need in a cancer situation. Now, I‟m not going to get all bio-tech on you, but it does help to know a little bit about how cells work in order to understand how cancer comes to be. Our bodies are made up of trillions of cells. Hold up your baby finger. You‟re looking at about 2 or 3 billion cells. Each cell is covered by a protective membrane. The enzymes inside of the cell do all the work, but the cell‟s job is to cause all of the enzymes that it needs to function properly. As long as a cell‟s membrane is intact, and as long as it‟s making all the enzymes it needs, the cell is alive. All cells, no matter how healthy, have a predetermined life cycle. They divide several times, and then they die and are replaced by new cells. An abnormal cell keeps dividing –even when a new cell comes to replace it. Now you‟ve heard of DNA. Well DNA does a whole lot more than announce who the “Baby Daddy” is, or help wrongfully accused folks get out of prison or help you determine your heritage. One of its most important jobs is to notify the new cells when a cell has died. The DNA does a great job as long as it‟s kept in tip-top shape. That means making sure it gets all of the macro and micronutrients it needs. If it becomes damaged, then it doesn‟t notify the old, dead cells that they need to leave. So, these damaged cells just keep hanging around and they keep dividing, and here come the new cells. Think of a tiny office where the first shift decides not to leave, then the second and third shifts come in and they‟re all piled up on top of each other. Others hear all the confusion and think something is wrong, so now you have a bunch of folk rushing in to help. That‟s what happens when the DNA falls down on its job. The old cells and the new cells and the newer cells continue to multiply until they form a mass or a tumor. And that‟s what cancer is, a bunch of out -ofcontrol cells or runaway tissue. The cells get out-of-control and form cancer cells in the average person 6 to 8 times a year. Our immune systems fight back and get the cells back to normal. So a person with a strong immune system might have cancer a
couple of times a year and never know it. If you‟ve been eating fruits and vegetables, haven‟t been overloading on sweets, have stayed away from dairy and all the bad stuff, then those out-of-control cells will be destroyed before they can form a tumor. The most intricate, complex and efficient machine cannot begin to compare to the complexity, intricacy and efficiency of our bodies. You have a self-cleaning oven? A self-cleaning fridge? Well, guess what – you have a self-healing body. The immune system‟s purpose is to protect our bodies from illness and disease. That‟s why keeping our immune systems in optimum health should be our number one priority. Keeping the immune system healthy is your best insurance for a long life. It keeps a problem from becoming a problem. It will keep you from worrying about every little pain, or mole, or ache, thinking it is cancer. An article in the British Medical Journal said that early screening often leads to unnecessary treatment. A healthy immune system can also correct a problem before the problem is really discovered. I knew of a woman who became severely constipated, lost her appetite, and had no energy. She decided to go to the doctor to see what was up, but first she went through a four-week detoxification program. At the end of the four weeks, her constipation was gone, her appetite returned and she had boundless energy. She went to the doctor anyway, and the doctor found nothing but a very healthy body. Is it possible that she had cancer? I wouldn‟t bet against it. Everyone has cancer cells in their bodies, it‟s a naturally occurring process in your body every single day. I recently saw a You Tube video of an interview with Dr. Michael Farley, an extremely knowledgeable holistic doctor. He explained that we are replacing millions of cells every day. Some of them will be abnormal, and some of those abnormal cells will be malignant. With a normally functioning immune system the body is very capable of recognizing those cells, marking or tagging them and having other cells kill them or engulf and eliminate them. However, he notes that when the immune system is compromised then
MAE MAGAZINE | November 2020 Pg17
those cells are not targeted or marked for extinction – and so the cancer progresses. Getting back to the woman who thought she might have cancer. A healthy immune system simply won‟t allow the cancer to get the point of having a cancer diagnosis. When she began juicing, detoxifying and eliminating junk food and sugar, she rebuilt her immune system What if that woman had gone into the hospital and a mass or tumor was discovered? They probably would have operated, exposing her body to air. Then they would have given her chemotherapy and possibly radiation, destroying her immune system. Once her immune system was destroyed and she no longer had anything with which to fight the cancer, they would tell her “we‟ve done all that we can do.” Yes, they would have done all of the damage they could possibly do. Then they would put her in hospice or send her home to die. Keep in mind, I am not a doctor, I don‟t play one on TV, and I don‟t try to give medical advice. So, I can‟t tell you not to take Chemotherapy or radiation if you‟re diagnosed with cancer. I can only say, many others didn‟t take it and they‟re still alive and cancer free. Suzanne Somers didn‟t take chemo or radiation, and she‟s still around, writing books and crusading for natural cancer cures. Sir Jason Winters was told in 1977 that he would die in three months of neck and jaw cancer, and if he allowed them to cut out his tongue, and part of his jaw and throat, he might live another 3 months. He opted not to have surgery, and he died – 30 years later. Within those 30 years he lived a healthy life, having read about herbs in the Bible as he was preparing to die, and using herbs to cure himself of cancer. If cancer has one ally in its quest to destroy your body, it is sugar. Sugar is your enemy, and it‟s like a magnet for cancer. On the other hand, good nutrition, lots of veggies like broccoli and kale, carrots and apples (preferably Granny Smith), plus a daily dose of Vitamin C, Vitamin D3 and my newest favorite, Turmeric, are cancer‟s greatest enemy. Finally, keep in mind, a cancer diagnosis is not a death sentence.

SKIN HEALTH
Natural skin care during a pandemic Our skin has been taking all the negative blows because of all the hygienic stipulations that are necessary to keep Covid19 at bay. It seems as if washing hands, using hand sanitizers, wearing face masks are never enough. These hygienic practices are essential to preventing the spread of Covid-19 but they negatively affect your skin overtime by drying it out, causing rashes, blisters and small cuts that burn when irritated. There are many natural skin care practices that can be incorporated to minimize the damaging effects to your hands and face.
tizer sprays and gels (with the active ingredient being alcohol of ideally 70%) to remove any possible germs. Washing your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds is also important to remove germs and prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Wear gloves. Disinfectants used for cleaning are successful in removing germs, but they can affect the health of your hands severely. Moisturize. Right after washing your hands, apply an ample amount of moisturizer. Choose moisturizers rich in vitamin E that impart moisture deep within your skin. Other great moisturizers shea butter, cocoa butter, almond oil, glycerin, olive oil and a oatmeal base. Its also important to select a moisturizer that is hypoallergenic, fragrance free, and dye free. This will limit irritation. Keep
SKIN HEALTH the moisturizer conveniently close to bathroom and kitchen areas, car workspace. This will ensure that the natural skin care your hands require in a pandemic are easy to maintain.
Seal in moisture. Use heavy moisturizers such as petroleum jelly or thick hand creams that include petroleum jelly.
Moisturize hands even when it doesn‟t feel dry. Doing this will ensure that you prevent cracks, chapped, dry, blistered hands. The best way to keep your hands moisturized is to be proactive.
Facial care As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and keeping in line with the rules and stipulations directed by CDC to wear cloth mask, the health of individuals have never been the same. As we prevent the spread of Covid-19 with the use of cloth masks daily ensure you care for your skin in this manner as well.
Face care routine. Ensure you cleanse and moisturize your face before and after using a mask. Be selective of the facial products used. Choose products that says "noncomedogenic," (wont clog pores like petroleum jelly), moisturizing, and hypoallergenic. Natural ingredients to employ in your skin care routine are aloe vera, papaya extract, grapefruit, oatmeal, vitamin e, honey, almond oil, and olive oil. Regular DIY turmeric scrubs, charcoal scrubs, carrot masks (naturally rich in vitamin C) and sugar scrubs rich in lemon, honey, essential oils,
turmeric, help to remove dead skin and surface impurities to prevent and treat acne. A natural facial toner with lime essential oil, tea tree, and witch hazel can be used daily.
Water consumption: Skin hydration is not what you apply to your skin but how many glasses of water you consume daily. True skin health is achieved and maintained in this manner. Built up toxins takes away from skin looking hydrated refreshed and glowing. Consuming 810 glasses of water throughout the day helps to flush the toxins from your body. To keep your skin hydrated and looking fresh, drink at least 8-10 glasses of water that will help to flush out the toxins. This is easier done at home than when you‟re on the move. an impact on both your eyes and skin associated with phones, TV, tablets, and laptops. It is recommended that even in doors during a pandemic with much blue light to use sunscreen to limit your skin from aging, open pores, and oil accumulation. Natural sunscreen includes raspberry seed oil, hazelnut oi, carrot seed oil, wheat germ oil, and soybean oil. Popular oils and butters can be used as sunscreen but has lower SPF levels. These include jojoba oil, coconut oil, avocado oil, almond oil, and shea butter.

ave any of you heard someone say, “Your hair is dead, and so it does not matter what you do to it”. This is not true. Your hair and scalp have a tolerance level. But is it dead or alive? Actually Yes and No. Trichology emphasizes hair science microscopically, getting to the root of the problem.
Hair is Dead The hair outside your scalp, physiologically speaking, is dead. It has no nerves, or live components. In addition, when hair is cut, you feel no pain, nor does it bleed or pull a muscle when stretched. Hair elasticity is an external component. However, a person can feel hair blowing in the wind, pain of someone pulling their hair, or tangled and matted hair combed out. However, for a dead fiber it is quite remarkable. A healthy hair strand will stretch up to 30% of its length, can absorb its weight in water and can swell up to 20% of its diameter. Many consumers get bored with their hair and alter its appearance frequently. Diva changes can be daily, weekly, every 2 weeks, etc. This variety includes: changing its color, shape, curl pattern, twist and set it, braid and weave it, spray it in various styles, tease, pull it to an amazing heights and degrees. Yet despite all of

this abuse, many consumers do not realize your hair has a tolerance level. There is a breaking point, boiling point and Alopecia a possibility…with excessive abuse to your hair. In addition, scalp sensations may be felt.
Hair bulb is Alive Hair grows from a single follicle where the bulb forms under the scalp tissue. Blood capillaries surrounding the follicle carry the nourishment needed for cell production and growth of the hair bulb. The size of the follicle may produce one to eight strands growing from it. This reveals the variations of fine/thin hair textures, medium hair textures, thick hair textures, as well as combination hair textures. Each follicle has its own blood, nerve and muscle supply. The nerves and muscles give the hair its tactile properties, allowing the slightest movement to be felt. Important fact: each of us is born with a specific number or follicles, which naturally cannot be changed. However, with hair transplants procedures, this expensive procedure has at-
tracted many consumers, as well as micropigmentation. Put simply, hair is extremely sensitive to any metabolic change, and it is often a result of these internal problems that hair loss and scalp conditions may occur. Seek the expertise of an expert for a microscopic analysis. Trichology is the para-medical science of the hair, hair loss and associated scalp problems. It encompasses the study of the diseases of the human hair and scalp, as well as the assessment of the cause(s) and treatment of these disorders. The word “trichology” comes from the Greek word, „Trikhos‟, meaning „hair‟, and was first conceived as a specialty branch of study in Britain in the late 19th century. It then became a specific para-medical discipline in 1902. Today, trichology is perceived as the “bridge between cosmetology and dermatology.”

What Time Is It?
BY FRANK
“I
don‟t have Tik Tok. You know, it‟s for older people. I shouldn‟t be lookin‟ at that.” You guessed it...Words from my niece. This time the niece in question is Lee Lee. She is very…let me think…staunch in her beliefs and understandings of the world. I mean STAUNCH…Must be the Scorpio in her. We had an argument about the number of wheels on a motorcycle…an argument…She‟s nine! AND, I RIDE! To be clear, there are two…wheels on a motorcycle…in
case there was some confusion. Back to Lee Lee… This particular conversation occurred during the “Girl‟s Weekend” she, my niece Aeryn, and I had in August. We were supposed to have a family follow-up in October, but broken ankles and such…Anyhoo, as I said, Lee Lee is nine years old. In fact, she just turned nine, on November 3rd…Election Day, and if you follow popular opinion, the most important Election Day of our time. November 3rd is also Colin Kaepernick‟s birthday, which got me to thinking about…Jay -Z. Yes,
Pg22 MAE MAGAZINE | November 2020
COMMENTARY Jay-Z, but I‟ll get to that. Over the course of the past few months, the most prominent voices from the Black community have been those of Black men in Hip Hop. In the aftermath of the murder of George Floyd, the world watched as Americans all over the country erupted in collective anguish. That anguish was shared by protestors around the world. That anguish manifested itself into riots, arson, and violence. All the Black community was asking for was, once again, that police stop killing us. Well, our efforts, however abrasive, were met with more violence…and killing, as the world watched, another Black man, Rayshard Brooks, was murdered by police officers in the parking lot of an Atlanta Wendy‟s. He fell asleep in the drive-thru and died because of it. Atlanta began to burn like Minneapolis. This brings me back to Jay-Z… Well, not as much Jay-Z, as Hip Hop, and in particular, Hip Hop‟s impact on this pivotal election. Why these thoughts? Because, soon after Atlanta started burning, the self-appointed, or anointed, Black voices of Atlanta spoke up. Those voices belonged to two people, Killer Mike and T.I. Now, to be fair, I don‟t know much about Killer Mike as a musician. I know he‟s had a long career and amassed quite a following. In spite of this, I only know him for his political and social leanings. It seems he‟s always chosen as the “voice” of the community each election cycle. I‟m just not sure how he got to that level. He‟s very charismatic when he speaks and delivers his message with passion, but he doesn‟t like dogs. That‟s a deal-breaker for me. As for T.I., what can I say? Let me make this expeditious. I know we talk about white men failing up, but this dude is the epitome of that on the Hip Hop level, and only because of his lack of domestic assimilation and true education (see his COVID views). Thank GOD we‟re past the “in the streets” phase…Well, he DOES belong to these streets, but, at least, he ain‟t bangin‟ in „em no more…Well…Never mind… As I stated, both T.I. and Killer Mike became the voices of the establishment, called in to tame the Black community
in Atlanta. Now, of course, if wasn‟t framed like that. They called on residents to stop the burning and looting. Hey, I‟m not opposed to their efforts. I am aligned with the “Burn it all down” crew, but I can‟t begrudge those on the opposing side arguing their points. The problem for me, actually, came when Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, in one of her many admonishments of residents (NOT the brown liquor one), passionately implore them to listen to Killer Mike and T.I., as they owned two-thirds of downtown Atlanta. Wait… What?! Why do two men, albeit Black men, but just two men, own two-thirds of ANY city? And, how could they possibly understand the despair that average residents were feeling? Of course, they wanted them to stop burning everything. Again, I can‟t begrudge them, but context matters, and lack of it is disingenuous. Are they for the culture, or nah? The culture…So often hip hop dictates the culture. It‟s a powerful position, and with it, comes much responsibility. The problem is that those at the top are so far removed from the struggle that efforts to promote the culture often only amount to optics and wordplay. Perhaps, if they spoke no evil, we would see no evil, but I digress… So…Jay-Z…Kap…November 3 rd… Election day…Hip Hop…I remember when Kap first knelt. I remember the debates…the think-pieces…the news coverage…white backlash…”Sons of bitches”…Let‟s pause here. The ONETERM president called NFL players sons of bitches for kneeling…over police brutality. And, for one weekend, the entire NFL joined together in a collective “FUCK YOU” to #45…My favorite “FUCK YOU” of all time! To be honest, this was just optics, but it led to a partnership between Jay-Z and the NFL…eventually… This partnership was supposed to lead to change, somehow. The NFL was acknowledging that police brutality was an issue. They and Jay-Z felt it was time to get past the kneeling and move to action. I‟m still waiting to see what that is. If you know, email me at blatantfrankism@gmail.com. Seriously… MAE MAGAZINE | November 2020 Pg23
It‟s interesting that with the events of this past summer and the initial social justice energy this NFL season began with, I haven‟t heard Jay-Z say a thing. If you have, again, email me. In “Party Life,” he said he was “Off the Wall” like a “young Michael Jackson.” I feel like he‟s serving real Tito in these efforts, though. You. Know who WAS serving dark-skinned Mike, at least until the election? Ice Cube… One might believe that Ice Cube is anti-Semitic. Any general perusing of his social media, especially over the summer, would lead one to this conclusion. But, this isn‟t about his position on the Jewish community. This is about his position on and in the Black community. Ice Cube created the “Contract with Black America.” He consulted with various Black men to construct his contract. He did the media circuit to promote his contract. He defended his contract. Two weeks before the election, he told us that he shared his contract with #45‟s administration. He didn‟t meet with the Biden camp. We thought it was because they told him to wait, but it was, actually, because Kamala didn‟t call him personally. He wanted Kamala Harris to call him directly (Did I mention that his contract didn‟t include women?), but he had no problem meeting with Jared Kushner. He also had no problem with Jared Kushner calling Black people lazy on Fox News. At least, he didn‟t say he did. In fact, he didn‟t say anything. So, deductive reasoning…Did I also mention that he told Angela Davis that Black women can look up to Black men for coverage even though their views aren‟t represented in the contract? Angela Davis…THE ANGELA DAVIS… Oh yeah, he also never read the Harris -Biden plan, which addressed issues his contract addressed…CHILE… Next up was 50 Cent…This one is stressing about being taxed because he makes more than $400,000 a year. Again, no disparagement, but how do you fix your lips to tell folks barely making ends meet to not vote for somebody because YOU‟RE going to get taxed? Fiddy needs to get his own strap. Last, but not least, or last and least, was Lil Wayne. Not sure what this dude

was trying to do five days before the election, but kudos for the try, I guess. Reports indicated that his endorsement caused his girlfriend to leave him, but he claims that he left her. He had had enough…of her telling people to vote…I‟m tired… Oh, damn, I forgot Puffy…Forget Puffy… Look, I‟m glad that, in spite of the impact Hip Hop has on Black youth that Black youth of voting age voted for themselves and their families and us. I‟m glad Black men represented the largest percentage of the Harris-Biden male vote. I‟m glad Black Women Black womened, as usual, „cause more white women Karened than last time. In the words of Lee Lee, their “energy is off.” By the way, Cardi B talked to Joe Biden…about issues…Like her style or not, it was a real conversation. Now, she also took Offset back (see TI and failing up in Hip Hop). So, there‟s that, but, apparently, she can compartmentalize. Look at women. As for Cube and the rest of his rich, out of touch Nigga‟s with Attitudes, I bet they wish Black America came prepared for this election like Gina did for Ms. Trinidad. Alas, we‟re in the middle of a pandemic. Unfortunately, there was “No Vaseline.” Maybe, they‟ll get to have dinner with the President before he leaves…Tick tock…
inexperienced Trump loyalists makes the nation more vulnerable according to 911 Centers. And Joe Biden is not only hampered from getting correspondence from other nations to him in his new role as President-elect, he also cannot get to the money that he should rightfully have access to in order to begin his transition. In our August issue we wrote an article called, “What if Trump loses?” We painted a bleak picture. Overly bleak we thought at the time. Not even the Donald would be that crazy we thought at the time. But it turned out to be crazier, more delusional and more bizarre than we thought. We‟ve reprinted the article in this issue. Trump claimed victory Tuesday night and he wasn‟t about to take it back. He couldn‟t believe that 71 million people had voted for him and Joe Biden still won. He didn‟t take into account, perhaps, that 75 million people had voted for Joe Biden. But I‟m with Trump on one thing. I
can‟t believe 71 million people voted for him, either. Are there really that many racist people in America in the year 2020? That‟s the second largest amount of people to ever vote for a president in history. The number one largest number of people to ever vote for a President was the 75 million that voted for Joe Biden. A lot of people didn‟t like Joe Biden. A lot of people said they would never forgive him for the 1994 Crime Bill. A lot of people thought he was the worst choice the Democrats could have made. But then, a lot of people like me voted for Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, and maybe that‟s what got him over. Sometime in the late morning or early afternoon of Saturday, November 6, Pennsylvania came all the way up from behind and Joe Biden was declared the 46th President of the United States. This should be a time of celebration. We‟ve been waiting 4 years to exhale. But we can only hold our breaths and wonder what the tweeter in charge is up to now.

aya Angelo said when someone shows you who they are believe them the first time.
Donald Trump showed us that he is a racist, xenophobic, homophobic, sexist, white nationalist. We‟ve had over three and a half years to believe it. We‟ve had three and a half years to talk about it incessantly. He has shown us that he is not above racist, xenophobic, divisive rhetoric. We have seen his rallies. We have heard his speeches. We have seen the results. In 2016, when he was having massive rallies to win the Republican primary and the General Election, there were 382 mass shootings – the most in any one year ever! This year as he is once again having massive rallies and tweeting much hate & divisiveness, not only to begin his campaign for four more years of terrorizing the country, but also to distract and deflect from the calls for impeachment, the results of the Mueller Report, his disastrous failure and response to the coronavirus, the unanswered calls for his tax returns and the disastrous trade war with China; during this same year there have already been 255 mass shootings. The 254th mass shooting occurred in El Paso,

TRUMP Continued from previous pg Texas. A twenty-one year old white supremacist went to a Wal-Mart store in El Paso, Texas. He told authorities he went there, specifically to seek out and kill Hispanics. He wrote a very lengthy manifesto explaining his crime and his motivations. He expounded on his hatred of immigrants and Hispanics who his president said don‟t belong in this country. He displayed on his Facebook page a “Trump” tattoo, and Trump said that the young man is “mentally ill.” So the newspapers and commentators responded with, “The President is confused.” “The President thinks mental illness is the cause.” “The President doesn‟t realize his rhetoric is radicalizing these young white supremacists.” No – The President doesn‟t think, he knows that mental illness was not the culprit in those killings. The President is not confused, he is very clear about how his rhetoric resonates with his base and the results. The President realizes exactly what he is doing, and we have had nearly four years to understand that he does what he does and says what he says with a purpose. Nearly four years ago candidate trump said, “I could stand on the corner of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn‟t lose any voters.” It was also about that time that he was speaking of the people who voted for him and said, “I love the poorly educated.” What is evident is they love him, too. So, we know all that about Donald trump. He has shown us who he is, and the media keeps repeating it. We make fun of his stupidity, we laugh at the dumb things he says and does, we send out Facebook memes and tweet about his ignorance, but it‟s really not funny anymore and we need to stop laughing. In fact, we need to stop tweeting, and CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS and NBC and the others need to stop reporting his every racist word for the world and the “mentally ill” white supremacists to hear. (I didn‟t mention Fox News because they are a huge part of the problem). Because as he said, they love him. They will do anything for him. And we‟d better pay attention. We‟d better pay attention when he says that there will be a civil war if he is not re-elected or

if he is impeached. He also said if he loses the election he will not leave office. Listen to him. He‟s showing us exactly who he is. We are outraged that in his desperation to win, he is literally and unconstitutionally attempting to destroy the United States Post Office. We were shocked for a moment when his ex-wife revealed that he kept a copy of “A New Order,” a book of Hitler‟s speeches by his bed, and read from it every night. But then, he said or did something new and that was forgotten. We can ignore those words and actions to our peril, but keep in mind, he has the NRA, the KKK, the Neo-Nazis, the white supremacists with AKAs, racist law enforcement, the militia groups across the country (the Southern Poverty Law Center identified 334 in 2015) and the Evangelical Christians (Jim Baker said if trump is not re-elected, Christians will be murdered, one after the other) – and he has a host of blind & clueless “poorly educated” followers at his beck and call, ready to lie for him and maybe even kill for him. All of these people are in place to carry out his civil war should he lose the election or be impeached. He has read Hitler‟s book & he has studied Hitler and he knows how to use hatred to radicalize masses of weak-minded people. No one paid attention

TRUMP Continued from previous pg to the fact that he recently pardoned five convicted murderers. In doing so he described them as “tough,” and said “I like tough people.” Of course we know that 5 people cannot carry out a civil war, but that wasn‟t the purpose of releasing them. It was symbolic. It was to let us know just what he has the power to do. As they say “forewarned is forearmed.” So do we fight fire with fire? I don‟t know if those of us who would be victims of his civil war could even match his firepower. But we can recognize the problem and try to find ways to deal with it before it‟s too late. Before he loses the election, or is impeached. Because I don‟t think his followers would take that lying down. David Duke said “We will fulfill Donald Trump‟s promises.” He didn‟t say, “If Donald Trump is defeated, we will go back in the closet & hide under our white robes.” What actions can be taken? Frankly I don‟t know. But I think we should be aware of the danger this man has wrought, and will continue to manifest. I think we should call upon our representatives to take his threats seriously and develop a game-plan. I think we should call upon the media to stop televising his rallies and his racist words and stop repeating his racist tweets so that perhaps fewer people will see and hear and become radicalized. I think that the Democrats should be thinking long and hard, not only about what we would do if Donald Trump wins the election, but what will we do if he loses.
