The Nature Park
DEPAUW NATURE PARK
Between 1917 and 1977, the DePauw Nature Park was the site of a limestone quarry, where rock was blasted from the quarry walls, crushed into limestone aggregate and then transported off-site by rail. The 520-acre park is open year-round and features a Welcome and Activities Center, the Manning Environmental Field Station, a large amphitheater and more than a dozen walking and biking trails. The trails take visitors through the bottom of the quarry and around its high wall, through the surrounding woodlands, along what once were the quarry’s rail line and the banks of Big Walnut Creek.

EXPLORE GREENCASTLE
DePauw is nestled in the small college town of Greencastle, Ind., 45 miles west of downtown Indianapolis. You might be surprised what you find here, including farmers’ markets, live music at First Fridays and Music on the Square, theatre at the Putnam County Playhouse and multiple local shops ranging from boutiques to consignment stores, a brewery and a familyowned deli that is popular among DePauw students.
The community and the university are intertwined. DePauw students are active in the community through both service and industry as many find internships or work for local businesses, while numerous faculty and staff members live in Greencastle. Almost all events, lectures, art shows and performances on campus are free and open to the public, encouraging the continued relationship building between the town and gown.
