About the Daytona 200 Monument
by Don Emde
In this issue we have a report and pictorial from Daytona Bike Week. Included are photos of some of us who attended the annual reunion at the Daytona 200 Monument to have a look at the new plaque installed for Fred Fox. The author of the story, Marilyn Stemp, and I shared the cost for the plaque for Fred that will now be there forever more. The profits raised from plaque sales goes towards the monument’s budget for annual repairs and insurance.
The Daytona 200 Monument was opened to the public during Bike Week in 2002. The concept, fundraising and management of the monument was done by three-time Daytona 200 winner Dick Klamfoth, with support from his wife Bev. Sadly, both passed away in 2019 and their daughter Christy and husband Al Charles have continued to run it since.
Klamfoth’s ambitious dream for many years was to build a memorial along the world-famous beach where the Daytona 200 races were held from 1937 to 1960. The following year the Daytona 200 moved to Bill France’s Daytona International Speedway where it continues currently. Twelve riders, including my father Floyd Emde, won the Daytona 200 races held on the beach course that was half beach and
the other half on highway A1A that runs parallel to the ocean. The faces of those twelve are etched on the monument wall.
Originally, the supporters of the monument were primarily from the old beach course years. Eventually those from the modern era of racing got involved and the idea was hatched to raise money to cover annual expenses thru the sale of plaques that people could buy as tributes to friends and loved ones.
In recent years, enthusiasts from the V-twin community who attend Bike Week began coming to the annual reunion held on the Wednesday of Bike Week. They too, began supporting the monument and purchasing plaques.
Every year that I and any of my family members are at Bike Week, it’s a must-do trip to go to the reunion and of course, we are very proud of Floyd’s victory there at that beach back in 1948. For information about the annual reunion and/or to buy a plaque or make a donation, log on to www.daytona200monument.com ■

Harley-Davidson Ordered to Fix Warranties
FTC REQUIRES COMPANY TO FOLLOW ‘RIGHT-TO-REPAIR’ RULES
The U.S. Federal Trade Commission has ordered Harley-Davidson to stop voiding customer warranties over installation of aftermarket parts and the use of third-party repairs.
The FTC alleged that Harley-Davidson included terms in its warranties that claimed that the warranty would be void if customers used independent repairers or third-party parts, in violation of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act and the FTC Act. Additionally, Harley-Davidson allegedly failed to properly disclose all warranty terms in a single document, and instead directed consumers to visit a local dealership to fully understand the warranty, the FTC stated in a release issued in late 2022.
“Illegal repair restrictions can significantly raise costs for consumers, stifle innovation, close off business opportunity for independent repair shops, create unnecessary electronic waste, delay timely repairs and undermine resiliency,” said FTC Chair Lina Khan in a statement. “It is critical that unlawful repair restrictions continue to be a key area of focus for the Commission.”
The orders requires Harley to take multiple steps to correct its unlawful behavior:
• Prohibit further violations: The company will be prohibited from further violations of the Warranty Act, as
well as the Disclosure Rule. It will also be prohibited from telling consumers that their warranties will be void if they use third-party services or parts, or that they should only use branded parts or authorized service providers. If the company violates these terms, the FTC will be able to seek civil penalties of up to $46,517 per violation in federal court.
• Recognize consumers’ right to repair: Harley-Davidson will be required to add specific language to its warranties similar to the following: “Taking your product to be serviced by a repair shop that is not affiliated with or an authorized dealer of [Company] will not void this warranty” and/or “using third-party parts will not void this warranty.”
• Come clean with consumers: The company must send and post notices informing customers that their warranties will remain in effect even if they buy aftermarket parts and/ or patronize independent repairers.
• Alert dealers to compete fairly: Harley-Davidson is being required to direct authorized dealers to remove deceptive display materials, train and monitor employees, and not promote branded parts and dealers over third parties. ■

Exclusive Training Tour for Drag Dealers
VISTA,
CALIFORNIA
– APRIL 6, 2023
Story and photos by Dain Gingerelli
Drag Specialties has resumed its Exclusive Training Tour to dealers for 2023, and Drag Specialties Magazine had the opportunity to attend one of the tour stops in Vista, California in early April.
Suspended during the national pandemic lockdown, the 2023 tour’s goal remains the same – visit 24 cities around the country, giving Drag Specialties dealers in all U.S. regions an opportunity to meet and mingle with many of the industry’s top vendors. (See page 32 for the full story on this year’s tour.)
“Our goal is to educate dealership personnel about new products coming into the market, and also to educate on existing products that are in demand,” said John Strangfeld, Drag Specialties’ National Sales Manager. “By sharing our vendors’ insight and expertise, Drag dealers are in a better position to create a favorable shopping experience for the consumer.”

BOTTOM: Drag's newest Southern California sales rep, John Potts, introduces the the lineup of vendors at the Training Tour stop in April.
The April 6 stop at Eppig Brewing in Vista, California, was the perfect gathering place for Drag Specialties’ Regional Sales Manager Mike Merritt to greet dealers. Following a brief social mixer and dinner, it was time for business.
John Potts, one of Drag’s newest sales reps, introduced the first presentation by Vance & Hines’ Robert Martinez and Tom Trobaugh. They were followed by Custom Dynamics’ Bob Malenfant who showcased some rather interesting and colorful custom lighting kits for motorcycles. Brian Davenport was next, highlighting Pirelli tires for Harley-Davidsons and Metzeler’s Cruisetec tires for Indian motorcycles.
Cory Ness, representing Arlen Ness Enterprises, reviewed many new custom items such as fork legs, brake components and such to complement the
long-standing company’s existing custom gold-finish products.
Potts wrapped it up, serving as surrogate for Klock Werks whose representative was unable to attend. Among Klock Werks’ newest products are handy mobile phone holders that mount to motorcycle handlebars, plus new fairings and colorful windshield choices. The whole evening allowed the assembled Southern California dealers to learn about a range of new products, and get the inside scoop on some limited lucrative sales programs offered to participating dealers.
The 2023 Exclusive Training Tour for Drag dealers continues throughout the riding season. Fittingly, the final two stops are scheduled for Tampa and Daytona Beach, Florida, October 10 and 12 respectively, ending at the 2023 Biketoberfest rally event. ■

Mees Victorious at Dallas Half-Mile
Reigning Grand National Champion and Drag Specialties/Parts Unlimited/ Indian rider Jared Mees penned the latest chapter of a career of Half-Mile heroics with a victorious run at the Dallas Half-Mile in Mesquite, Texas.
The win was the 34th Half-Mile of Mees’ historic career, placing him just one shy of the all-time record held by Scott Parker.
“Honestly, this was one of the hardest races to win,” Mees said. “Going into Turn 1 and through Turn 2, you had to be so delicate going into the corners. You had to hit your brake mark right, get your throttle position right, and if you messed it up, it screwed your whole momentum up. Hats off to my entire team.” ■

The mid-2000s were exciting and busy at Drag Specialties. Since the name Drag Specialties came from the original owners who were active drag racers, there was always a natural interest in drag racing. A number of Drag Specialties vendors, including Vance & Hines, S&S, and others worked out sponsor support programs in exchange for Drag Specialties signage on their team trucks and race bikes.
Meanwhile, motorcycle customizing was in full swing. A number of Biker Build-off type competitions on cable television gave V-Twin riders lots of ideas for things they could do to personalize their bikes. Drag Specialties built relationships with most of the top custom builders who were seen on those shows, including Arlen and Cory Ness, Don Hotop, Tank Ewsichek, Jerry Covington, Paul Yaffe, Donnie Smith and more.
Another new activity created by Drag Specialties was annual dealer rides. A number of the top Drag Specialties vendors came on board as sponsors with dealers earning free trips by placing stocking orders for the products made by the sponsoring companies. The first Drag Specialties event was the Black Hills Dealer Ride in South Dakota held prior to the Sturgis Rally in June of 2006. ■

The September/October 2005 issue of Drag Specialties Magazine featured a cover story about Vance & Hines. In addition to an overview of the NHRA team rider Doug Vancil, their new Big Radius exhaust systems were introduced.
Specialties jumped into the deep end of the pool in 2006 as title sponsors of the S&Spowered G2 Motorsports NHRA team, owned by George Bryce and S&S chairman George Smith. Their rider, Chip Ellis made a sub-7-second quarter mile run that year, only the second time that had ever happened at that time.
Everyone at Drag Specialties takes great pride in the relationships built over the years with the top custom builders in the industry. In March/ April of 2008, Drag Specialties Magazine featured a story about the late-Arlen Ness, known as “The King of Choppers.”

19 JUNE 2023 ★ DRAG SPECIALTIES MAGAZINE 30 TH ANNIVERSARY SERIES
Cracking the throttle open once and feeling the motorcycle beneath you shake with raw power and acceleration is an experience that gets riders hooked for a lifetime. This is what hooked young riders Terry Vance and Byron Hines at an early age, ultimately leading them to wrenching on engines and saddling up at the drag strips of Southern California, beginning a journey that led them to build Vance & Hines, one of the most innovative performance brands in the motorcycle industry today. The performance and racing bug caught Terry and Byron early, making them eager to grab a wrench and find ways to crank up power and drop race times. In fact, this is exactly what they did in the early stages of Vance & Hines, and the company remains driven by that same purpose to this very day.
Even before the days of creating exhaust, intake and tuning systems for Harley-Davidson motorcycles, Vance & Hines built race engines for fellow riders chasing the checkered flag.
Since then, the company has achieved an unprecedented 10 championships running the factory Harley-Davidson Pro Stock Motorcycle program in NHRA for the past two decades, along with developing the current XG750R flat track racer which the Vance & Hines’ team secured the 2022
Production Twins championship with in American Flat Track. Vance & Hines has taken all of that experience and distilled it into a proven line of performance parts and accessories.
Substantial engineering, dyno and development time has gone into Vance & Hines’ stage 1 lineup of products, consisting of a variety of exhaust systems, air intakes and engine tuners for a vast range of Harley-Davidsons. Always committed to quality, power producing products, Vance & Hines returns time and again to its roots in racing.
The company’s team is now focusing on the MotoAmerica Mission King of the Baggers championship, pushing the envelope of the Milwaukee-Eight engine, which inevitably leads to new, exciting performance products for the aftermarket.
Vance & Hines has competed in the King of the Baggers series since its inception in 2020 and the company entered the 2023 season with new and improved Road Glide race bikes for the team’s two racers, Hayden Gillim and James Rispoli. Officially known as the Vance & Hines / Mission / Harley-Davidson team, the name has already made its way to front page MotoAmerica headlines with a victory at the Mission King of the Baggers opener at Daytona.

PERFORMANCE FOR HARLEYS
Rispoli piloted the Vance & Hines powered Harley-Davidson to the checkered flag ahead of his competition with his teammate close behind, posting a P1 and P2 for Vance & Hines at the 2023 introductory race in Florida.
BORN IN RACING
Kick-off results like this are a demonstration of Vance & Hines’ commitment to its craft. The company knows both the ins and outs of fielding a competitive race team at a professional level and about producing components for riders of all types. That experience of engineering huge gains in V-Twin performance is translated into Vance & Hines lineup of stage 1 performance components that work together to deliver a package of air, fuel and exhaust.
Perhaps one of the most head-turning products in Vance & Hines’ race-inspired lineup is its *Hi-Output RR 2-into-1 exhaust system. This system’s design was born directly from Vance & Hines’ Harley-Davidson racing experience in King of the Baggers. Just like the power plants in the race bikes, *Hi-Output RR systems are optimized for Milwaukee-Eight engines in Performance Bagger builds, whether it’s a Road Glide or other Touring model.
This 49-state emissions compliant, 2-into-1 exhaust delivers race-level durability with high-grade, 304 stainless steel construction featuring hand TIG welded headers that step
gradually from 1¾ inches to 2 inches, and feed into one oversized collector. This collector is the same one that’s used in live racing action and even features a rotated mounting position for extra ground clearance.
Finishing off this exhaust system is Vance & Hines’ signature, *Hi-Output megaphone emblazoned with the iconic brand badge. Inside, Vance & Hines’ proprietary PCX technology integrates a chambered, high-flow catalyst for a torque boost off the line and out of corners. Plus, they’re available in brushed stainless or matte black finishes, giving riders options to match their style.
Taking a few steps back in the internal combustion cycle, optimizing the air entering the engine is just as much a performance necessity as the air exiting it. Among Vance & Hines’ impressive lineup of air intakes for Harley-Davidson engines, the 1VO2 Falcon Stainless stands out with its raceinspired performance.
The company developed the 1VO2 Falcon Stainless for performance-minded Harley riders looking for improved bolt-on power and torque. This air intake features a classic, performance-style 90-degree design with a forward-facing air cleaner. The most notable piece of this intake that achieves its 90-degree direction is a hand-welded intake tube assembled from high-grade 304 stainless steel pie cuts.
Vance & Hines’ deep racing heritage goes back to founders’ Terry Vance and Bryon Hines’ successes on the drag strips of Southern California. That same passion is still pumping today in the King of the Baggers series. From left: rider Hayden Gillim, Vance, crew chief Steve Polk and rider James Rispoli. Brian J. Nelson photo

This cone style fabrication look is a timeless representation of racing development, displaying the visual identity of the art behind building race-winning performance, plus it delivers about a 10 percent gain in power over stock. Fixed on the end of the intake tube is the same slantnosed, high-volume oiled media air filter used throughout the 1VO2 line to allow for optimal airflow, while stopping dust and debris. This race piece is accented by a CNC-machined billet aluminum winged mounting and integrated breather assembly. Plus, it’s 50-state emissions compliant, making it a great option for riders everywhere. As a package, the 1VO2 Falcon Stainless air intake is a natural pairing with the *Hi-Output RR exhaust system.
If welded stainless isn’t exactly your customers’ preference, the 1VO2 Falcon line delivers its proven performance in a wide array of finishes, including chrome, matte black and two different sleek carbon fiber finishes; gloss weaved and matte forged.
OPTIMIZED FUEL
With intake and exhaust covered, the last piece of the stage 1 performance puzzle is fuel. Tuning the power delivery of modern, fuel-injected V-Twin engines can seem like black magic for some riders, but thankfully Vance & Hines has done all the hard work and put it together in the *FP4 tuner, a simple, intuitive package that can be operated from a smartphone.
The next generation of the popular and proven Fuelpak FP3, *FP4 takes ECU tuning intuition to another level, giving riders the power to control their motorcycle’s tune, view live sensor data and read and clear trouble codes from the familiar comfort of their mobile device. Plus, all this functionality is backed by Vance & Hines’ experienced team of rider support technicians at the company’s headquarters in Santa Fe Springs, California.
Vance & Hines offers an *FP4 solution for riders’ machines from 2007 all the way up to new 2023 model compatibility. The *FP4 has all the hard work and testing built into it, featuring an expansive, 49-state emissions compliant map library developed and proven for specific combinations of bolt-on parts on Vance & Hines’ dynos, including items like the *Hi-Output RR exhaust and 1VO2 Falcon Stainless intake. With the *FP4, your customers’ phones can monitor and log live data while they ride, displaying the motorcycle’s vitals in real-time; even allowing for on-the-fly tuning with Vance & Hines’ AutoTune feature.
With air, fuel and exhaust optimized for a complete stage 1 performance package from Vance & Hines, and efforts to meet 49 to 50-state emissions compliance across the country, Vance & Hines is helping riders take a big step in improving the performance of their motorcycles, while retaining their factory warranty. Whether they plan to keep their ride as a fun cruiser or continue to a complete engine build, Vance & Hines is ready to ride with them. ■

A FAMILY LEGACY BARNETT CELEBRATES 75 YEARS
Drag Specialties Magazine is celebrating 2023 as the 30th year since our Premier issue of magazines for LeMans Corp. We are proud to have as an advertiser a company that has been around more than twice that long. This year Barnett Tool & Engineering will hit its 75th anniversary milestone.
As it has been since the start, Barnett is a family business, now headed up by Mike Taylor, President/CEO, and his wife, Colleen Taylor, who is Chief Financial Officer and the daughter of company founder Charlie Barnett. The current Barnett staff also includes their son, Chris, daughter, Jennifer, and her husband, Chance Darling. They have a son waiting in the wings to continue the Barnett story when he gets a little older.
Charlie Barnett officially started his business in 1948, but the story goes back even farther. To escape the dust bowls of Oklahoma, Charlie made his way to the Southern California area in the 1930s riding on freight trains. He met his future wife, Afton,
on Main Street in downtown Los Angeles, where groups of people interested in motorcycles would meet on weekends. They married in 1941 and Charlie began working at machine shops to learn how to be a machinist. As he had no formal training, he would apply for a job, telling them he could do the work, and learn as much as he could before his employer found out he wasn’t a trained machinist, and they would let him go. In the 1940s, L.A. was full of small machine shops, and he learned a little bit from each one. In the first year of his marriage, he worked at 25 different machine shops.
Charlie made extra money by fixing up old cars and re-selling them and making small parts for his friends’ motorcycles in his garage. He opened his first shop in nearby Huntington Park, where in addition to making specialty parts, he imported products from England, mainly cable assemblies. Meanwhile, he continued to educate himself as a machinist.

Soon he was going from dealer to dealer encouraging the shop owners to carry his products. It wasn’t long before he was connected with Triumph motorcycles and offered replacement cables for Triumph dealers nationwide. He became good friends with some of the top names in the industry like Bud Ekins and Ed Kretz. Soon more products were added, levers, throttles, rubber goods such as kick-start rubbers, throttle grips, risers and handlebars. Then Charlie got the idea that he could make superior clutch plates using cork or neoprene materials. The first clutch plates were for Triumph, BSA, Norton, Ariel and Matchless motorcycles. When Honda brought their first motorcycles to the United States, Barnett made clutch plates for them. Early 250cc and 305cc Hawks and Scramblers were designed for lightweight Japanese riders. Heavier Americans quickly burned out the stock clutches and a Barnett clutch became the best way to solve this problem.
Barnett Tool & Engineering continued to grow and moved into a larger facility in Vernon, California in 1965. Charlie
led the company until 1974, when he stepped down due to his health. Luckily, his daughter Colleen and her husband Mike were poised to step into the leadership role at Barnett and they remained focused on what Charlie did best: clutches and cables. They became owners of the company when Charlie passed away in 1993 and the two of them have been running it ever since. In 1998, they moved the business to its current 40,000+ square foot manufacturing facility in Ventura. ■
» The staff of Drag Specialties Magazine congratulates everyone at Barnett on their 75th anniversary. We wish them many more years of success in the motor cycle and related powersports industry.

Perfect Passenger Road-Trip Ready Duffel
THRASHIN’s new Passenger Bag is designed to strap to the back of a motorcycle thanks to a slew of clever straps and buckles. It can be clipped directly to the company’s Expedition Bags for a full luggage setup.
Riding season is rolling to full throttle, so if your customers are headed to a rally or planning a cross-country road trip and need a way to haul their gear, THRASHIN’s got a lineup of new, versatile luggage to choose from. Existing and popular products like the Essential and Escape Saddlebags are updated for the 2023 riding season, and the THRASHIN crew has added new, larger bags including the 21-liter Expedition Saddlebags and the versatile 28-liter Passenger Bag. Like the rest of THRASHIN’s luggage line, the new duffelstyle throw-over Passenger Bag is the product of owner Lance Coury and his crew’s personal need for more cargo space. It’s utilized for their regular rides around Southern California and, of course, their annual pilgrimage to Sturgis.
The new Passenger Bag is designed to strap to the back of Dyna, FXR, Softail, Sportster, and Touring models thanks to a slew of clever straps and buckles. Originally intended to perch atop a bike’s passenger seat, the Passenger Bag can also be mounted to a sissy bar/passenger backrest, secured to a touring rack, or clipped directly to the Expedition Bag’s integrated buckles. For direct attachment to the Essential and Escape Saddlebags check out their accessory strap kit. Whatever your customers ride, or however they have their bike outfitted, the Passenger Bag will be a willing and stable passenger.
Measuring in at 17 inches long, 10 inches tall, and 10 inches wide, the Passenger Bag offers nearly 28 liters of storage space without being too bulky or looking dumpy. It’s big enough to swallow all the clothes your customers will need for an extended summer trip. Snag a few souvenirs on the road or need to bring a bottle of something tasty back to the hotel? Zippers at either end of the duffel allow the Passenger Bag to expand to 20 inches, increasing total capacity to 33 liters.

Designed to perch atop a bike’s passenger seat, the Passenger Bag can also be mounted to a sissy bar/passenger backrest or secured to a touring rack.
If a bag is designed for travel, then it has got to be easy to carry off the bike, so the Passenger Bag comes with backpack straps. For the Passenger Bag, Coury and crew improved on existing designs by integrating the adjust able, padded backpack straps into a pocket at the end of the bag so they’re always there when your customers need them. The straps are sewn to the chassis at the top and there are quality metal clips at the bottom that secure to D-rings on the bag to create a comfortable
Another great carryover feature from THRASHIN’s other luggage is the hi-viz orange interior. “So many bags are black inside,” says Coury, “So it’s like looking into a dark cave trying to see your black gloves or other items. The orange background makes stuff so much easier to see, even at night.”
On top of all these great features, the new Passenger Bag is easy to install, especially if your customers are already rocking a set of THRASHIN saddlebags. “It integrates perfectly with our existing bags” says Coury. Side-release buckles and D-rings sewn to the Passenger Bag’s exterior connect directly to the straps integrated into the Expedition Bag’s lids, and for those with the smaller Essential or Escape Bags THRASHIN has a strap kit to make the connection.

Versatility is the name of the game with this new bag. It’s got the backpack straps plus the expandable chassis, and it’s ready to clip in place in a variety of locations with the included strap kit. The chassis is made from the
From the compact and sleek Essential Saddlebags all the way up to the Expedition Bags and this new Passenger Bag, THRASHIN’s lineup of luggage is designed to look good and function great. SHOW AND TELL THE 2023 DRAG SPECIALTIES TRAINING TOUR
The Drag Specialties Dealer Training Tour is back and already underway for 2023, bringing product training straight to dealers across North America. This year, the tour is visiting 24 cities, and a total of 17 leading vendors will provide hands-on training about their latest products. Additionally, attendees will learn about current sales trends and merchandising strategies, and there will be exclusive purchase offers for dealers who participate.
This year’s Drag Specialties Dealer Training Tour kicked off back in March with two stops in Texas, including Austin and Dallas. Things will wrap up on October 12 in Daytona, coinciding with Biketoberfest. Instead of making dealers sit in a drab conference room, tour stops are hosted in fun locations like breweries and car museums.
Each event on the training tour is held in the evening and kicks off with food and drinks. Five featured vendors will give a 20-minute presentation. Following the training, the dealers will network with the featured vendors along with product demos at the Drag Specialties Semi. The semi features five custom-built bikes showcasing products from each of the 17 participating vendors.
As always, the Drag Specialties Training Tour will include strong incentives for attending dealers. Both Drag Specialties
and the participating vendors will offer discounted products, and exclusive deals that are not available anywhere else.
The Drag Specialties schedule also includes dealership open house events. This is a way for Drag Specialties to give back to dealers, helping draw in customers and giving them ideas about the aftermarket products they can put on their own motorcycles.
The Drag Specialties Semi creates a billboard and draws attention to dealer open house events. Customers will get to see the custom-built bikes on display, and the Drag Specialties local sales team will be available for product demonstrations, too.
To give people even more of an incentive to attend the open house, Drag Specialties is offering consumers the opportunity to sign up to win a 2007 XL1200N Sportster custom-built bike. This giveaway runs through October 31st so attendees at every open house will be able to enter. The drawing will be held on Cyber Monday in November.
If you’re interested in attending a Drag Specialties Training Tour stop near you, talk to your Drag sales rep to get more details and to reserve your spot. Dealers who are interested in participating in the open house program can get additional details from their Drag sales rep. ■

DAYTONA BIKE WEEK 2023
RIDING IN THE SUNSHINE!
Call me a traditionalist, but Daytona’s heritage is firmly based in racing so that’s the proper start for any Bike Week article. Racing got underway first at Billy Lane’s Sons of Speed, which has become a pivotal event. Since 2015, it’s brought vintage thrills – and spills – to fans of the old iron. Held at New Smyrna Speedway on the first Saturday, the track’s banking, bleachers and pits fit the scene just right. Vintage racing at its finest – followed by much more as the week progressed.
At the “World Center of Racing,” Daytona International Speedway (DIS) Josh Herrin won the 81st Daytona 200 aboard a Ducati Panigale V2, his second victory in that race with a record 13 years between the two. This time he got the Rolex because he started on the pole!
In MotoAmerica Mission King of the Baggers, 2021 champ Kyle Wyman, who had engine trouble in Round 1, watched as James Rispoli topped the podium. Then Wyman came back in Round 2 to lead every lap and win with a vengeance. Race action and topsy-turvy results in KOTB, the REV’IT Twins Cup and Mission Super Hooligan classes kept fans focused and entertained Thursday through Saturday at DIS. American Flat Track returned to Daytona with a doubleheader. (See page 62 for the full King of the Baggers update.)
Most motorcycle events are weather dependent. It only takes one bone-shaking, finger-numbing experience to learn that you have to watch the weather when you’re riding. And though some of the best stories come from some of the worst rides, this isn’t one of those. Because Daytona Bike Week 2023 was picture perfect in the weather department. Well, almost, but I’ll get to that. Better to focus first on the prevalent sunshine and balmy breezes rustling the palm fronds that most riders expect to find in Florida, all the more welcome considering the relentless winter many riders dealt with at home, both before and after Bike Week.
The original competitors in the 1930s raced on the beach and that’s where the Daytona 200 Monument stands in testament to them. Founded by three-time Daytona 200 winner Dick Klamfoth (1949, 1951 and 1952 – on the beach!), the Monument was dedicated in 2002 to honor past and present riders. During Bike Week, racers, riders and fans gather there on Wednesday when new plaques are added; it’s a must on my Daytona schedule. This year, late LeMans Corporation (Drag Specialties parent company) founder Fred Fox was honored with a plaque.
Plenty of the usual Bike Week happenings filled the spaces between races, with the Iron Horse, Broken Spoke and Main Street holding strong as hubs for bike shows, shenanigans and profiling. Several OEMs displayed at the Speedway with staged rides and demos, including a women’s ride presented by Harley-Davidson and the Sturgis Buffalo Chip.
The aftermarket was out in full force at Teddy Morse HarleyDavidson at Destination Daytona in Ormond Beach. The new owner of the former Rossmeyer’s Harley-Davidson was present

in force along with the Rossmeyer family, and the venue was packed all week long. Bike shows and charity events filled the Teddy Morse Harley-Davidson Pavilion, including the Flying Piston Builders Breakfast which raised over $10,000 for All Kids Bike and Motorcycle Missions.
In fact, NASCAR champ Rusty Wallace and his crew from Southern Country Customs rolled right into the middle of the breakfast on hi-po bagger customs, creating quite a fuss! Lining the pavement from Houligan’s to the J&P Cycles store, the Drag Specialties truck was front and center with a number of Drag vendors and their busy staff installing parts aplenty.
Giuseppe’s Steel City Pizza in Port Orange was a magnet for the chopper crowd (and people who like great food) and the show at Willie’s Tropical Tattoo held strong. Wrapping up the week were the Boardwalk Show by Florida Full Throttle Magazine on Friday and the legacy Rat’s Hole Show on Saturday.
By then, I was headed back north, preparing to face what the Weather Channel warned about, adding layers from my limited stash of clean clothes to hold in the Florida sunshine until Spring came to stay.

The Twins are Back! A New Twist on a Fan Favorite
One of the most popular handlebars ever produced by LA Choppers is its perennial favorites, the Twin Peaks. This mitered bar has been a popular choice when it comes to putting ape hangers on a Harley-Davidson. With the perfect combination of pullback, overall width and height options, the Twin Peaks is still a strong selection among riders, but not everyone wants a 90-degree mitered handlebar.
Introducing the Twin Rounds by LA Choppers! This new offering mimics all the characteristics of the Twin Peaks, but with a traditional four-bend style handlebar design. And, when LA Choppers says four-bend, the company means an ape hanger with rounded corners top and bottom.
The style of a traditional ape hanger is timeless, but the biggest complaint many customers have is how wide they are and how much pullback there is. With these new Twin Rounds, the pullback ranges from 5 inches to 6 inches, and overall width ranges from 33½ inches to 37 inches depending on the application.
The Twin Rounds are a unique offering from LA Choppers, a company that aims to not only set trends, but also offer the products that keeps those trends thriving. One thing that helps is the company’s vast manufacturing capabilities, a powerhouse of an operation located at the company’s Huntington Beach, California headquarters.
With its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, LA Choppers has every tube cutter, bender and even robotic welders that allow them to take what exists as an idea
and make it a reality. On top of that, the company’s R&D team has a breadth of manufacturing knowledge, always finding ways to create new products and improve already existing products.
These new Twin Rounds are available for all Road Glide models, as well as all Batwing Fairing models. Available finishes are Bright Chrome and Gloss Black powder coat. As always, these LA Choppers handlebars are Made in America! ■

Make it Mitered Narrow Bars for Slick Styling HANDLEBARS
Todd’s Cycle is known for operating on the leading edge of styling for V-Twin motorcycles. From classic narrow ape hangers to billet risers and moto bars, Todd’s has been front-and-center in motorcycle industry styling trends for years.
One of the most popular of Todd’s classics is the Stripper, or Strip bar. What really elevates the aesthetics and appearance of this handlebar are its beautiful outward bends and mitered corners. Given its penchant for tweaking classic designs to come up with something that’s just plain cool, Todd’s opted to miter all four corners of the Strip bars. This not only makes the handlebar look great, but it allows for it to be much narrower than a traditionally bent handlebar. That narrow fit cuts an extra slick profile for any motorcycle on which they’re installed.
Todd’s Strip bars are available for just about all HarleyDavidson models, and in a variety of diameters and heights.
If your customers are looking for a classic look, the 1-inch Strip bar will look fantastic on their Softail or Sportster. There are also fitments for Dynas, Road Glides and Ultras.
And, if the customer wants something a little more beefy?
Todd’s also offers the Strip bar with a 1¼-inch diameter. That extra heft helps create just the right look, and provides plenty of control and comfort for the rider. There are fitments for just about anyone, at any height, with end rise options starting at 10 inches, going all the way up to 20 inches.
Is your customer’s bike all blacked out, or are they wanting a nice bright chrome? No worries, Todd’s has them covered with a beautiful gloss black as well as a bright chrome. All of Todd’s Cycle products are manufactured in sunny Southern California in the company’s state of the art manufacturing facility, and are available from Drag Specialties. ■

Tread Talk
V-Twin Tires Get an Update
In response to consumers experiencing irregular harmonic frequencies on certain motorcycles, Michelin developed an enhanced tread pattern on two front sizes of the Commander III. The enhanced tread reduces noise and the possibility of vibration.
When Michelin began working on what was to become the MICHELIN Commander III tire lineup, the company didn’t just rely on engineering and in-house testing for the design. Michelin also spent extensive time talking to riders about what they wanted in a tire. Recently, Michelin took the same approach by responding to consumers experiencing irregular harmonic frequencies generated on certain motorcycles. As a result, Michelin developed an enhanced tread pattern on two front sizes of MICHELIN Commander III to reduce noise and the possibility of vibration.
Both of the tire sizes that have been updated – the 130/60B19 61H and 130/80B17 65H – are popular choices for use on a wide variety of V-Twin motorcycles. The updated tread pattern is a positive enhancement for all of them.
This dedication to quality is part of what makes the MICHELIN Commander III Touring and MICHELIN Commander III Cruiser tires such a popular choice for V-Twin riders. The first MICHELIN Commander tire was introduced more than 20 years ago as Michelin’s flagship V-Twin tire; since then, the tire line has continued to evolve and improve. The latest iteration, the MICHELIN
Commander III tire line, features cutting-edge tire technology to give riders a great blend of stability, longevity and wet-weather performance.
Exceptional wet grip and short stopping distances in the wet are just two of the reasons the MICHELIN Commander III tire line is a trusted choice for V-Twin riders. This excellent performance in wet weather comes, in part, from combining a silica-infused tread rubber with deep tread grooves. The groove depth supports efficient water evacuation, while biting edges help the tire keep its grip on the road.
When the German motorcycle magazine MOTORRAD tested the MICHELIN Commander III Cruiser tire in a wetweather matchup, the test team had nothing but praise for the tire. They noted the excellent performance in both straight-line riding and in turns as one of the reasons Michelin took home top honors.
For the MOTORRAD test team, one of the most impressive aspects was the distance it took to brake on a wet surface. Beginning at 62 miles per hour on a Harley-Davidson Heritage Classic mounted with MICHELIN Commander III Cruiser tires, the bike was brought to a full stop on a wet surface in just 145 feet, which is 9 feet shorter than the next nearest competitor, according to MOTORRAD.

TIRES
Michelin's Commander III tire line features cuttingedge technology that gives riders a mix of stability, longevity and wet-weather performance.
When it came to turning in the wet, the test measured lean angle through a corner. The MICHELIN Commander III Cruiser tires gave the bike about 10 degrees more lean angle compared to the stock tires.
Wet-weather stability is important, but riders also want supreme confidence on those days when the weather is great. One of the most important times to have a stable ride is in corners, which means the MICHELIN Commander III tire has to perform well at any lean angle. To achieve this, the MICHELIN Commander III tire has a more rounded profile compared to its predecessor, the MICHELIN Commander II. The updated design optimizes the contact patch across the entire profile for a more planted feeling, even during cornering.
While stability and longevity are certainly important, riders also want tires that look good. The MICHELIN Commander III tire line features distinctive tread patterns and Michelin’s patented sidewall styling, developed with Michelin Premium Touch Technology. These attributes combine to give the MICHELIN Commander III tire a unique but classic look that really suits V-Twins.
The MICHELIN Commander III tire line includes 14 front and 13 rear sizes. Dealers can order the MICHELIN Commander III tires with confidence, knowing the tires will be in stock and ready to ship immediately.
For riders who want exceptional longevity as well as an excellent price point, Michelin has a solution in the form of the MICHELIN Commander II tire. This nimble tire is available in 9 front and 8 rear sizes.
The long-lasting performance, handling and stability characteristics of the MICHELIN Commander II tire are the result of Michelin’s Amplified Density Technology (ADT). This highly dense, more rigid tire casing helps deliver excellent feedback and handling to ensure a stress-free ride. Aramid tread plies resist warping, reduce weight and increase the stability of the tire, while the tread pattern and sidewall deliver on style.
Between the two versions of the MICHELIN Commander III tire – Cruiser and Touring – and the MICHELIN Commander II tire, there is an option for virtually every V-Twin, from the latest models to classics and customs.
Get up to speed on Michelin’s V-Twin tire choices and access all Michelin training and product assets on the MICHELIN Two-Wheel Dealer Engagement site: https://dealer.two-wheel.michelinman.com. ■

THIRD TIME’S A CHARM
NEW LOOK FOR POPULAR CLASSIC
Right now you’re probably saying to yourself, “I’ve seen this bike before.” And, if you’ve been reading Drag Specialties Magazine during the past 10 or so years, you’d be correct, because this custom 2009 Dyna Fat Bob appeared in two issues, first in 2013, again in 2017.
And, each time, it did so at the hands of two different builders. The first go-round was by then-up-and-coming builder Zach Ness, son of Cory and grandson of the late, great Arlen Ness. Zach’s 2013 build helped Drag Specialties usher in the West Coast look that’s remained popular through the coming years. The custom Dyna’s 2017 edition, courtesy of Joe Houpt and his crew at Suburban Motors Harley-Davidson, retained that theme, but with a different blue paint scheme and new components to further underscore Drag Specialties’ longtime customer creed of “From our garage to yours.” That bike appeared on the cover of the 2017 FatBook.
Following the customary year-long tour to Drag Specialties dealers and custom motorcycle shows and events that Drag Specialties project bikes enjoy, the Suburban-built Dyna was quietly rolled into the garage where it sat for several years.,
It was during that time, people at Drag Specialties noticed a trend; there was an enormous amount of interest on Drag’s

website aimed at the blue Dyna custom. In fact, there had never been as many internet searches for a Drag Specialties project bike as there was for the Dyna, in either Ness or Suburban livery. Maybe there remained some life (read = value) in that old bike after all, concluded people at Drag Specialties headquarters.
Among the believers was Central Region Sales Manager Rob Bluma. “We (Drag Specialties) had put the bike in the barn,” Bluma says. “We just didn’t know what to do with it.” However, thanks to all those internet hits, Drag Specialties realized that it might be worthwhile to bring the bike out of mothballs, this time to spotlight new and different products for Drag dealers to consider.
There was an underlying message, too – dealers could institute their own innovative ways of freshening up bikes in their used-bike inventories, making them attractive for potential customers who aren’t in a position to buy a brand-new motorcycle.
Clearly, a third make-over – this one again by Suburban Motors – for the 2009 Dyna would illustrate that there’s always new life in old motorcycles. By browsing through the FatBook dealers could come up with innovative ways to create used custom bikes that their customers would like to buy or emulate with their own Harleys.
Bluma’s term for this is a, “redo bike.” Simply take an old bike and re-do it, selecting parts from the FatBook to do so. The theme plays well for dealers and owners alike.
Harley owners have taken this approach for years, and the third iteration of Drag’s 2009 Dyna Fat Bob serves as a reminder that these Milwaukee-bred bikes often serve as perpetual palettes on which dealers and individual owners create a new look out of a bike that, otherwise, might be considered old or outdated. Remember, it’s all in how you look at things, and in the case of this 2009 Dyna Fat Bob, the crew at Drag Specialties feel that this old bike still looks mighty good!
The slick flaked blue paint job remained for the third go-round, but other changes marked a “new” bike for 2023. The facelift began by wrapping its new Performance Machine Revolution Gold wheels with Michelin Commander III Touring tires. A new Saddlemen 1WR Performance Gripper seat hints of Bagger Racing, which further prompted the inclusion of the Legend Suspensions’ AXEO High Performance Standard Front Suspension System.
The Bassani *Road Rage exhaust system remains, but the intake now uses an uses an S&S 1Stinger Air Cleaner Kit. Also new is the Custom Dynamics ProBEAM Black 5¾-inch LED headlamp, plus the Koso Multi-Function Electronic Speedometer and Slyfox Carbon Fiber horn cover.
With mission accomplished, Dyna Fat Bob III reported for duty, its first mission being the popular Mama Tried Show in Milwaukee. The Threepeat complete, the Dyna posed for the photos featured here before venturing off to appear at Drag Specialties’ road shows and other related events for 2023. After all, you should never let a good workhorse remain idle in the barn. ■

Functionality in both use and installation are critical factors in Ciro’s design process, which is why the TAC-10 light cannons are designed to easily connect to select HarleyDavidson model high beam light circuits; or customers can wire them directly to key-on power if they prefer. These lights are available in two mounting configurations, one of which includes bolt-on, engineered brackets for Street Glides and Electra Glide Standards. This not only allows for convenient adjustability, but they also feature integrated tie-down tabs offering customers a convenient solution for transport. The other includes 1¼-inch round bar mounts and extended wiring so customers can easily mount almost anywhere on their engine guards.
Ciro is committed to developing unique and effective products for customers and Harley-Davidsons, offering a wide product line that stretches across several categories, including lighting.
The lighting segment across powersports has come quite a long way since the days of high-power-drawing halogen upgrades. Today, LED technology produces great results in small, sleek packages, and Ciro has embraced this technology with its latest TAC-10® light cannons and Fang® lower fairing lights.
Ciro designers incorporated proven Vison X lighting technology in the TAC-10 light cannons, featuring 10-watt, high intensity CREE LEDs in a pod-style housing. These compact cannons pump out 2,104 raw lumens per pair with a sub-2-amp draw. The long-distance iris reflectors help TAC-10 cannons push light far ahead, helping fill in riders’ vision on those nighttime cruises.
A textbook example of maximizing functionality and style simultaneously, Ciro’s Fang lower fairing lights give riders the ability to optimize lighting in those low and close dark spots with a 180-degree light pattern, plus enhanced turn signal visibility.
Ciro’s ultra-bright, LED technology forms a radiant, uniform glow from Fang lower fairing lights that is easily noticed by other drivers during the day, as well as at night. These lights also integrate with the bike’s turn signal wiring, changing to a bright, amber light during turn signal flashing.
The design and shape of these Fang lights features a combination of seamless integration with lower fairings and optional chrome or black housings. This provides a sleek look that could pass for a factory installed option. Plus, like so many others from Ciro, these lights also feature plug-n-play installation and are backed by a limited lifetime warranty. ■

Power Surge New Exhaust Options for the Indian Chief
As anyone familiar with the Bassani brand knows, the company doesn’t just go for looks when it comes to their exhausts. Performance, sound and quality are all important, too. The 2:1 System for the Chief features stepped head pipes, and the 1 ¾-inch into 1 7/8-inch design is made to give the Chief more horsepower and torque. In addition to performance, the design also gives the system a great aggressive sound, as Bassani customers would expect.
The 4-inch Super Bike muffler is made from stainless steel, and it has a matching billet end cap that is removable. The exhaust system also has a removable baffle, giving riders even more options.
Bassani exhausts always have a superb fit and finish, and the 2:1 System for the Chief is no exception. Each system is TIG-welded by hand for a beautiful craftsman finish. The system includes stainless steel heat shields, too, so customers have the full package.
Fans of the Indian Chief now have more options for aftermarket exhausts thanks to the latest products from Bassani Xhaust. In addition to two varieties of slip-on exhausts, Bassani also has a full system that gives the Chief a radically different look.
The Bassani 2:1 System with Super Bike Muffler for Indian Chiefs is a high-performance full system with a lot of style. Instead of the dual-muffler design, like the stock Chief has, this system features Bassani’s Super Bike muffler. The aggressive-looking muffler sits low on the bike, blending beautifully with the lines of the Chief. It really creates a different look for the bike, and the low-slung style means the exhaust system works great with saddlebags.
Indian Chief riders who prefer a slipon to a full system can opt for one of the new 4-inch slip-ons from Bassani. The housings are available in coated black or chrome, and the end cap is black with contrasting machined flutes for an extra dose of style.
Each slip-on has a 2-inch perforated core, which offers a performance boost as well as the aggressive sound Bassani exhausts are known for.
These new products, like all Bassani exhausts and slip-ons, are made in the U.S.A. from quality steel sourced from American mills. By being so meticulous about the steel used, the exhausts and mufflers have improved heat cycles and increased heat protection. ■

DRAG SPECIALTIES DEALER GOES BIG IN 2023
With the Harley-Davidson Motor Company’s much anticipated 120th Homecoming Celebration drawing near, the place for Harley owners to gather will be Milwaukee, Wisconsin. And, a hot spot that’s destined for fun and celebration is Milwaukee’s largest Harley dealership, House of Harley-Davidson, 6221 West Layton Avenue.
Welcome to House of Harley-Davidson, established in 1972 and a Drag Specialties dealer since the mid 1970s. Throughout that time, the dealership has maintained a strong relationship with Drag Specialties and has long embraced the aftermarket products the company carries. In fact, the House regularly partners with Drag and its vendors for the scores of rallies and events the dealership hosts – something it will do again for the 120th celebration. The dealership has also attended the popular Drag Specialties Dealer Ride for years.
“Drag Specialties and the brands distributed by Drag really help elevate our dealership in delivering next level support and service,” said Parts and Service Director Alex Vogel. “We are a dealership that encourages customization and personalization, most of which involves the use of the FatBook.”
The House of Harley-Davidson has remained at the same location throughout its 51-year history, and will enjoy a homecoming of its own this summer for Harley Owners Group (HOG) members. Fittingly, HOG Membership No.1 of all HOG chapters, including that at House of Harley-Davidson, belongs to Steve Piehl, who was the first of House of HarleyDavidson’s charter members.
As a young man Piehl was the Harley-Davidson Motor Company employee tasked with forming the Harley Owners Group in 1982. HOG was officially launched January 1, 1983, and Piehl was first to sign up, doing so at House of Harley-Davidson. Follow-up charter members include Motor Company luminaries such as Karen and Bill Davidson, plus their famous father Willie G. himself. Many other enthusiasts with close ties to the parent company also signed up at the dealership’s chapter during HOG’s early days – it’s safe to say that the dealership was the birthplace of more than 1 million HOG members the world over. With such heritage, HOG members will certainly check in to get their HOG rally pins during the 120th
But, House of Harley-Davidson is more than about being No. 1 in HOG status. It’s also among the most active HOG chapters,

When it comes to parts and service at House of Harley, techs are constantly reaching for the FatBook. Calvin Johnson installs a new headlight for a customer.

and that’s saying a lot. According to the dealership’s director of business development, Mark McClain, “We average over 60 events every year, including indoor and outdoor activities, based on Wisconsin’s seasonal weather.”
Maintaining such an active pace requires what McClain terms, “heavy lifting by our staff and volunteers.” And, again, that is where the dealership’s HOG members play an important role. Event parking and traffic control, participant sign-ups, ride escorting, and much more require experienced people to help coordinate activities. That is especially true during events such as this July’s 120th Homecoming because House of Harley-Davidson has no less than six charity-support rides scheduled over a five-day span that gets underway one day before the 120th Homecoming officially begins.
Four of these rides (Veterans Charity Ride on Wednesday, supporting Fisher House; Law Enforcement Day on Thursday, supporting WI-C.O.P.S.; Firefighters Day on Friday, supporting the Milwaukee Fire Bell Club; and Susan G. Komen on Saturday, supporting the fight for a cure for breast cancer) raise funds for specific charity organizations that House of Harley-Davidson supports on an annual basis.
When the House of Harley-Davidson opens its doors to customers for big events, it starts by working with the city of Milwaukee to close off the street outside. This additional space, combined with the dealership’s massive footprint, serves as an epic location for good times.
House of Harley-Davidson: A History
The Bar & Shield logo was first hung at House of Harley-Davidson in 1972 over the door facing West Layton Avenue. Eventually the business next door vacated the premises, allowing House of Harley-Davidson to assume their lease. Expansion number one.
A short time later under new management, the dealership expanded its floorspace again, which was good because House of Harley-Davidson had signed on as a Drag Specialties retailer. The increased business required increased floor space.
Jeff Binkert became the dealership’s owner in August of 2015, and laid plans for further expansion. With new ownership came some mainstay charity-support rides, too, including those benefitting veterans’ groups, law enforcement and firefighters. These charity rides will play a major role during this year’s 120th Homecoming, too.
Another favorite among House of Harley-Davidson customers are Engine Performance Workshops that assists Harley owners in learning about products that improve their bikes’ performance. No surprise, Drag Specialties and the FatBook are the source for many of those products.
Most recently Wisconsin businessman Jim Kacmarcik became a minority business partner to Binkert. Dealership expansion has led to additional storage space including room to store more than 1,000 customer bikes each winter. The 23,000 square foot warehouse addition brought the total dealership square footage to over 70,000 square feet. The dealership’s entire indoor/ outdoor footprint consumes close to five acres.
Clearly the House of Harley-Davidson has a long and storied past. And, with a history that spans more than half a century, the Milwaukee mainstay looks to have a vibrant and growing future.

House of Harley-Davidson will also sanction two unique rides that originate at the dealership Sunday morning, the destination being Harley-Davidson’s official 120th Homecoming Parade through downtown Milwaukee.
What’s going to be happening in between all those scheduled rides? Well, a lot. For starters, the dealership has the city’s permission to shut down the street in front of the 70,000-square-foot dealership. There will be a bevy of food booths, musical acts and that Drag Specialties Event Truck and its lineup of popular Drag vendors.
“The presence of these brands and the support they provide, along with our local rep Nick Zander and Regional Sales Manager Rob Bluma, makes using Drag Specialties unquestionably simple,” Vogel said. “We appreciate their impact on the motorcycle community as it helps aid in the opportunity we have to provide a memorable experience during the Hometown Rally to celebrate the 120th Anniversary as we welcome [those] brands and more to our dealership in July.”
Naturally, all of the dealership’s service technicians will be on hand for everything from quick oil changes and aftermarket parts installation to major engine work. According to Vogel there will be 12 full-time qualified service techs, including Masters of Technology who have 10 or more years’ experience, on call during the Homecoming.
“And, should anybody need parts or want to take advantage of special show promotions, we’ve stocked up on products from Drag Specialties,” Vogel said. “If we don’t have a product that someone is looking for, Drag’s warehouse is only a phone call away for overnight delivery.”
That 120th Homecoming will be here before you know it and when the V-Twin world descends on Milwaukee in July, the House of Harley-Davidson is sure to be among the mandatory places to visit before the celebration concludes. ■

THE BATTLE HAS BEGUN
2023 MOTOAMERICA KING OF THE BAGGERS
Four races and two rounds into the 2023 Mission King of the Baggers Championship, the bitter battle for supremacy between Harley-Davidson and Indian Motorcycles has thus far been led by Harley and its Road Glide, 4-0. But don’t expect Indian to throw in the towel as there’s plenty of racing left on the expanded for 2023 seven-round, 14-race schedule.
Hot on the heels of his second-race victory at Daytona International Speedway, Screamin’ Eagle Harley-Davidson’s Kyle Wyman has been on a tear of late with the New Yorker winning three in a row – the most recent a doubleheader sweep of the class at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta in April.
With Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson’s James Rispoli taking his first Bagger class victory at Daytona, and Wyman chasing those wins with two more victories in Georgia, the Harley freight train is steaming right along. But, it’s way too early to count out defending class champion Tyler O’Hara.
O’Hara is the top Indian in the championship after two rounds and four races with the Indian Motorcycle/ Progressive/Mission Foods-backed Californian sitting behind four Harleys. Not where he wants to be, but not out of the running by any means.
With Kyle Wyman and his three win, one DNF tally of 75 points leading the way, it’s Rispoli who sits second, eight points behind Wyman and just two ahead of his Vance &

Hines Harley-Davidson teammate Hayden Gillim. Rispoli couldn’t match his Daytona results of first and second at Road Atlanta, instead posting a pair of fifth-place finishes. Gillim, meanwhile, was third and fourth in the two Atlanta races with race two in Georgia the first time the V&H team was left off the podium.
The comes O’Hara in fourth, 14 points behind Kyle Wyman – the only one that matters to him at this point. O’Hara’s Daytona was derailed by an 11th-place finish in race two. O’Hara bounced back at Road Atlanta with a pair of seconds. Fifth in the championship is former Superbike podium finisher and 2021 Stock 1000 Champion Jake Lewis, the Kentuckian learning the ropes in his first season in the Bagger class. Lewis has finished all four races and his best result was a fifth in race two at Daytona.
Roland Sands Design/Indian Motorcycle’s Kyle Ohnsorg is sixth in the standings, one spot better than his teammate Bobby Fong on the Sac Mile/SDI Racing/Roland Sands/ Indian Challenger. Although Fong’s Road Atlanta was far from smooth, the three-time MotoAmerica Superbike race winner was fourth and third over the course of the weekend.
Fong is tied in points with O’Hara’s teammate Jeremy McWilliams and just three points ahead of Cory West.

Quality Care Premium Products for Harleys
For Harley-Davidson riders, a motorcycle isn’t just a way to get around. A Harley is so much more than simply transportation, and Harley owners want to treat their bikes to quality products to keep them running happily. LIQUI MOLY has a range of products ideal for doing just that, including three oils that are made specifically for Harleys plus cleaners for the engine and air filter.
Before performing an oil change, it’s important to begin with a clean system. The LIQUI MOLY Motorbike Engine Flush goes in before an oil change to remove engine deposits quickly and safely. This cleaning process results in less wear, lower emissions and improved performance. It will also prevent the new oil from degrading prematurely.
Before an oil change, the Motorbike Engine Flush is simply added to the old oil. After allowing the engine to idle for 10 minutes while engaging the clutch lever at regular intervals, simply drain the oil as usual. All of the loosened deposits and sludge will drain right out along with the oil, so the new oil goes into a clean system.
LIQUI MOLY formulated the Motorbike HD Synth 20W-50 Street oil for Harleys, and it is an excellent year-round option for V-Twin engines. This synthetic oil features outstanding viscosity and high-temperature stability, and it provides consistent wear and corrosion protection.
Cleaner easily extracts dust, oil and grease, all without damaging the foam pores of the air filter. It works much better than water, is free from solvents and is biodegradable.
While this oil can be used in various engines that requires a 20W-50 oil, it was designed with the American V-Twin in mind.
Another Harley-specific product is the LIQUI MOLY Motorbike Gear Oil HD 150. The synthetic base oil ensures optimal pressure resistance, and it is a great choice for the primary drive to keep things running smoothly in all temperature ranges.
For bikes that need a high-performance gear oil, LIQUI MOLY offers Motorcycle Gear Oil 80W-90. Designed for high-pressure systems, the oil includes additives to ensure excellent performance.
In addition to regular oil changes, air filter maintenance is also a must to keep airflow moving efficiently to the engine. The LIQUI MOLY Motorbike Air Filter Cleaner is a gentle, effective way to keep a foam air filter clean.
The cleaning formula easily extracts dust, oil and grease, all without damaging the foam pores of the air filter. It works much better than water, but at the same time, the Motorbike Air Filter Cleaner is free from solvents. It is biodegradable, too. ■

Cruiser Luggage for Every Type of Travel
Having the correct luggage before a ride is a must. Nelson-Rigg’s ROUTE 1 Cruiser luggage collection is a nine-piece variety to suit HarleyDavidson/V-Twin riders, no matter their bike model or the kind of ride they’re taking. Harley riders can choose one piece, or mix and match for the perfect luggage setup for wherever the journey takes them.
Each piece of the ROUTE 1 Cruiser Collection is made from Ultramax® fabric. Nelson-Rigg is so confident this proprietary fabric will not fade or change color over time that this is included in Nelson-Rigg’s Lifetime Warranty.
Most of the ROUTE 1 luggage expands, and every piece (except the Rover Pet Carrier and Cell Phone Case) comes with an integrated waterproof rain cover to keep contents dry during wet-weather rides.
Leading the Route 1 Collection is the Traveler Tour Trunk rack bag that holds 63 liters and securely straps onto Harley Tour Pak racks, giving riders a lot more storage capacity, especially when expanded to 73.5 liters.
The versatile Traveler Lite Bag is designed to fit perfectly inside a stock Harley Tour Pak so when a rider reaches their destination, they can grab the bag and go. This 35-liter bag also straps on top of the Tour Pak or to a backrest/rack.
The Destination Bag is a rider’s choice when looking for luggage to sit on a rack with a sissy-bar/back rest, or it can be turned around to sit on the seat behind the rider. There is a top compartment with 18 liters of storage, plus a lower 35-liter compartment with multiple access points to reach gear inside. The center expands for a total of 65 liters of storage.
For shorter rides, the compact, 20-liter Day Trip Bag is ideal for storing the essentials, while the 31-liter Weekender expands up to 40 liters, making it perfect for a couple nights on the road.
Some luggage is more precious than a change of clothes. The Rover Pet Carrier lets a rider take along their small furry friend in a safe, comfortable carrier with plenty of airflow. The expandable “porch” gives the pet more space when used off the bike.
The magnetic Cruiser Tank Bag is a universal fit for all Harleys. This stylish piece quickly adds 5-7 liters of storage. Another very popular piece in the collection is the magnetic Cell Phone Holder, a smaller tank bag with a clear, touchscreen-friendly top panel.
A Road Trip Saddlebag set works great on mediumdisplacement Harleys. Using Nelson-Rigg’s own included mounting system, each semi-rigid 9.5-liter bag snaps securely in place.
The Traveler Lite, Destination, Weekender, Day Trip and Rover luggage all feature four-point connections and hook-and-loop straps, providing a variety of options as to where and how they mount to the bike, whether attached to a rack, a seat or a Tour Pak. The Route 1 Cruiser Collection is diverse, yet concise, for easy dealership inventory management. ■

The 100-horsepower, 60-degree V-Twin powerplant that pushes the stylish Scout down the road is a marvel of engineering, but as with most OEM setups it’s a little restricted in terms of sound. And, who doesn’t want their cruiser to carry a little more style?
Enter the Grand National 2-into-1 exhaust system, designed by S&S’s performance specialists to work with the stock engine tune and offer a thunderous sound that’s tunable to suit the situation. Need to fly under the radar around town? The Grand National has a stainless-steel dB reducer that tames the exhaust note without totally neutering it. Ready to ride out to a rally? With a few bolts the reducer pops out, unmuzzling the Grand National’s full flat track bark.
A livelier exhaust sound is nice, but the Grand National also offers a healthy dose of style. Race-inspired styling ends with a 4-inch can finished with an aluminum end cap and featuring machined reliefs on the outside and a steep bevel on the inside.
While the Scout’s stock twin mufflers are awkwardly long and obscure most of the rear wheel, S&S’s Grand National exhaust flows with the lines of the bike and tucks in nicely against the swingarm. A perforated stainless-steel baffle runs the length of the muffler body, and is surrounded by S&S’s proprietary blend of packing for long-lasting performance and a deep throaty sound.
The durable matte-black coating on the Grand National muffler, headers and heat shields mesh well with the Scout’s engine and frame paint, lending the entire package a professional appearance. As an added bonus, the Grand National 2-into-1 system comes with exhaust gaskets in the box. That means an easy, leak-free installation, whether your techs are handling the project in the shop or your customers opt to DIY at home.
S&S has been in business since 1958 and offers quality performance products for all of the most popular Indian models including the Scout, FTR, Challenger and Chieftain. With its subtle good looks, quality construction, and tunable exhaust note, the Grand National system is a great mod for the new Scout. ■

Oil for The Ages Covering All The Classics
New Harley-Davidsons call for 20W-50 oil and Maxima offers that blend in three styles, including mineral, semi-synthetic, and full synthetic. Each one is formulated to provide high levels of performance and protection.
problems associated with the ethanolblended fuel that is common at gas pumps. Fuel Enhancer’s potent additive package inhibits corrosion when water is present in the fuel tank or carburetor, and prevents varnish, deposits and gum from building up inside carburetor float bowls and injectors.
There’s a certain prestige that comes with owning an older Harley-Davidson. It’s a real piece of history, complete with patina, old-school American quality, and – quirks. Old bikes require more care, whether it’s because of oil leaks, layered-on grime or their need for unique lubes. Thankfully, Maxima has all the cleaners and chemicals modern and vintage Harley owners need, including the straight-weight oils called for in classics like Knuckleheads, Panheads and Shovelheads.
V-Twin Mineral oil is designed specifically for air-cooled American engines and packs a ton of modern lubrication technology into one viscosity. Available in 50W, 60W and 70W, these oils integrate Maxima’s proprietary additive package with extreme-pressure and anti-wear protection. The shear-stable formula maintains an excellent film thickness across all operating temperatures, and a generous helping of detergents and other cleaners work to purge grime and buildup from old engine internals and help keep the motor running for years to come.
Maybe your customer’s bike is modern and calls for the 20W-50 that’s so common in Harley manuals. Maxima offers that blend in three styles, including mineral, semisynthetic, and full synthetic. The mineral mix is great, but the V-Twin Syn Blend oil offers even better protection, and, for the ultimate in performance there’s V-Twin Full Synthetic. The lab-made esters in Syn Blend and Full Synthetic are extremely durable, and are engineered to stick to engine parts better for superior lubrication at high engine speeds. Maxima also offers complete V-Twin Oil Change Kits that bundle all the needed oil-change supplies into one convenient package.
Whether your customers’ bikes are old or new, pouring a bottle of Fuel Enhancer into the tank will do them some good. This additive is designed to prevent and cure
Maxima’s lineup extends well beyond oil. They also have excellent products like Clean Up and MPPL.
Maxima’s lineup extends well beyond oil. They also have excellent products like Clean Up and MPPL. Clean Up is a grime-busting, water-soluble cleaner that works great on engines, chains, wheels, and anything else that’s covered in grease, oil or other crud. MPPL is a multi-purpose penetrating lube that is ideal for pivots like the side stand, clutch and brake levers. MPPL displaces water and offers rust protection – it’s a must have in any garage or shop.
Taking care of an older motorcycle is a little more work, but most owners will agree that it’s worth it. And with Maxima oils, lubricants, and cleaners, caring for that old Hog is that much easier. ■

Fork Cartridge Kits For Softails
Take M8 Forks From Good To Great
progressive-rate spring for refined and balanced front-end control.
The asymmetrical design of this fork kit places a preload adjuster over a progressive-rate spring in one leg and a sealed, gas-charged damping cartridge in the other. Compared to a damper rod or other more rudimentary damping systems, a gas-charged cartridge offers dramatically better and more consistent control for a more comfortable ride as well as better handling and stability.
Progressive’s FST damper uses deflectivedisc technology to provide a finely tuned damping curve, while a high-pressure nitrogen charge separated by an internal floating piston ensures the damping oil is always in the right place and bubble free when the fork strokes. From the saddle, it all combines to feel like a more planted front end that’s more willing to follow the road and does a better job of turning those formerly jarring hits into gentler bumps.
Tradition and heritage are important when it comes to the style and feel of your customers’ Harleys, but when it comes to suspension? It’s hard for anyone to argue that old-school tech is a better option than the latest and greatest from a company like Progressive Suspension. The brand that’s been pioneering performance- and comfort-enhancing tech since 1982 has turned its attention to the 2018 and later Milwaukee-Eight Softail models and is now offering a state-of-the-art cartridge kit to modernize the fork internals on bikes equipped with 49mm front ends.
Depending on which model your customers are riding, their M8 might be rolling on a damper-rod type fork, meaning that the new-gen chassis is paired with crude suspension technology that hasn’t been cutting edge in half a century. With Progressive Suspension’s 49mm Monotube Cartridge Kit, your customers can add in true high-performance damping tech that incorporates Progressive Suspension’s Frequency Sensing Technology (FST) damper with a
While the damping upgrade on the Monotube Cartridge Kit is a big deal, the setup also comes with an upgraded fork cap for the spring leg that offers 11 full turns of tunable preload. With the damping cartridge, premium progressive spring, and preload adjustment, the Monotube Cartridge Kit establishes a new benchmark for high-performance suspension on the 49mm M8 Softail platforms. This kit is available for bikes with standard front ride height as well as in 1- and 2-inch lowered options.
The Monotube Cartridge Kit is a big step up for riders, so for customers who are interested in a more affordable upgrade that still offers useful tunability, Progressive has a spring-preload fork cap that comes in a complete kit as a stand-alone part. This anodized-aluminum fork cap set offers 20mm of preload adjustment to tune for rider weight, cargo, and a passenger. Your customers can pair the PS 49mm Fork Preload Adjuster Kit with a Progressive Suspension Fork Spring Kit to maximize riding performance. ■

Stylish Upgrades Custom Look Replacement Parts
This year’s FatBook includes a range of new and interesting items from Covington’s Customs, many of them geared primarily to customize Harley-Davidson MilwaukeeEight and select Twin Cam models. Many of Covington’s new products are bolt-on ready; others might require minor downtime to remove existing stock components before attaching the new – and more stylish – replacements.
Most of the new products are made of CNCmachined billet aluminum, and are available in finishes that include chrome or black. The lineup features the company’s Dimpled or Diamondback design patterns, as well as the familiar Ripper-style custom patterns. All designs are intended to provide any custom bike project its own styling theme.
Perhaps Covington’s most user-friendly new product is the Ignition Switch Knob Cover that gives the bike’s ignition switch cover a custom look. Two-sided tape easily affixes the knob cover – available in a chrome or black finish – to various Twin Cam and M8 models.
Among the more advanced or intricate custom replacement parts are M8 Valve Covers in smooth or Diamondback patterns sporting chrome or black finishes. Additional matching M8 components such as Transmission Top Covers, Points Covers and Air Cleaner Cover Inserts, all in Diamondback or Dimpled patterns with chrome or black finishes, can have any M8 engine looking as if it’s dressed to the nines.
Not all of Covington’s Customs’ new products are for the engine, though. One item to surely find favor among shoppers are the new Saddlebag Hinge Covers for late-model Harleys with hard saddlebags. The custom hinges are made of CNCmachined aluminum as direct replacement items, and come with either Diamondback or plain surfaces in chrome or black finish.
Among the new products is one item that’s not only stylish looking, but great sounding – a Billet Aluminum Horn that replaces the cowbell horn on select Harleys. The replacement bell includes its own 12V 3-amp horn that broadcasts a hefty 90-105 decibels blast. Beyond its distinctive sound, this custom horn comes in a Diamond pattern finish, as well as Smooth surfaces in black or chrome. ■

All-Aluminum Big-Bore Kits
Cast iron cylinder bores have worked well for over 100 years, but iron is an old, outdated material. Modern engines use all-aluminum cylinders, and electro plate their bores with ultra-hard alloys that are smoother and more durable than cast iron. Revolution Performance has state-of-the-art electro-plating equipment on site at its Wisconsin headquarters, and uses it to manufacture its Bolt-On and Monster Big Bore Kits.
Harley-Davidson Evolution, Milwaukee-Eight, Sportster and Twin Cam engines are the lucky recipients of Revolution’s engineering expertise. No cylinder sleeve means more room for a bigger bore, and compared to cast-iron cylinders, Revolutions plated big-bore kits dissipate heat faster and are significantly more durable. And, since Revolution Performance cylinders and forged piston are made from the same material, the components heat and expand at the same rate, allowing for tighter tolerances, which means more power.
These benefits are applied to Revolution’s Bolt-On Big Bore Kits as well as the extra-large Monster Big Bore Kits. Bolt-On Kits are exactly what they sound like, and can be slid on in place of the stock cylinders for a quick and easy increase in performance. Bolt-On Big Bore Kits are available for XL883 and XL1200 models as well as a variety of Twin Cam engines and Milwaukee Eight engines. With a Bolt-On Big Bore Kit, your customers can take their 107inch Milwaukee Eight to 124 cubic inches, and the 114 and 117 motors can expand to a full 128 cubic inches.
Revolution Performance Bolt-On Big Bore Kits come with a set of all-aluminum plated cylinders, custom-forged pistons, a set of high-tension rings specifically designed for NSC cylinders, and quality head and base gaskets. Revolution has worked hard to make the Bolt-On Big Bore Kits an easy install, so even with the bore-size increases these kits offer there’s no case boring or modifications needed. However, upgraded cylinder studs and nuts are required to stand up to the increased cylinder pressure these kits are capable of producing.
If your customers are willing to bore their cases, balance their cranks, and have their cylinder heads machined, then they’re ready to step up to Revolution’s Monster Big Bore Kits. They fully embrace the advances that unsleeved, all-aluminum cylinders offer.
We’re talking 139 cubic inches for the 107 Milwaukee Eight, and a staggering 143 inches for the 114 and 117 Milwaukee Eights. Twin Cams run the gamut from 117 cubic inches up to 131 cubic inches, and all kits benefit from the improved heat dissipation and reduced friction offered by all-aluminum cylinders with a high-tech NSC bore plating.
All of Revolution Performance’s components are made in America, and replacement pistons and gaskets are available for all big bore kits. ■

Coordinating Comfort New Sissy Bar Pads and Brackets
All on its own, a LePera motorcycle seat is a comfortable, stylish upgrade for a V-Twin. But with the simple addition of a new LePera sissy bar pad and Dead End sissy bar plate bracket, riders can amp up the comfort and looks even more.
In all, there are 13 new sissy bar pad designs from LePera Motorcycle Seats. Riders can choose from a plain pad or select stitching in Single Diamond, Double Diamond, Maverick or Pleated styles. There are also three different inlay styles available, including one that is a black pad with a white inlay for a stark color contrast. Additionally, the pads are offered in both dull and shiny finishes.
There is a method to LePera’s choices in the designs and finishes. The available selection means there is a sissy bar pad to match every single LePera seat. No matter what LePera seat a rider chooses, there is a sissy bar pad that will look perfect with it. LePera seats like the TailWhip and KickFlip with Chestnut stitching have been hot sellers lately, and both of them would look great with the addition of a sissy bar pad.
These new sissy bar pads are sized to fit standard-height and tall Harley-Davidson sissy bar uprights for 2008-2022 Touring models. They can also be used on the low and standard-height Holdfast sissy bar uprights for 2018-22 Softail models. These pads are compatible with some aftermarket sissy bars, too, though a complete list is not yet available.
Mounting a LePera pad to the sissy bar is easy thanks to the company’s new Dead End sissy bar bracket kit. Each sissy bar pad mounts to the bracket at three points, providing a stable, secure fit.
Laser-cut from steel and powder coated for a beautiful fit and finish, the bracket kit makes a pad easy to install while also providing the perfect finishing touch to the look of the seat. The team at LePera figured there was no point having a plain, boring bracket. Instead, riders can choose from one of three designs laser-cut into the bracket, including a classic LePera logo.
In addition to the new sissy pads and bracket kit, LePera also has new Bare Bones pillion seats to match its popular Bare Bones solo seats for Softail models. Available in smooth, Diamond stitching or Diamond stitching with white thread, this pillion seat has simple styling to look great with the lines of both custom and stock bikes. Like all LePera seats, the Bare Bones pillion seat is built on a powder coated steel baseplate that is carpeted to protect the bike’s painted surfaces. ■

SISSY BAR PADS
Showing Off A Seat for Adventurous Riders
The word “adventure” can mean different things to different kinds of riders. When it comes to the TailWhip seat, LePera Motorcycle Seats has designed a versatile choice for Harley-Davidson riders who crave an adventurous, adrenaline-fueled style of riding. Like the KickFlip seat, the TailWhip gives riders a platform for their own creative style. Its name is inspired by the seat design, which features a whipped-up tail that adds style as well as support for both the rider and passenger. Of course, no one wants to show off all the time, which is why LePera designed the TailWhip to be as comfortable as it is edgy.
The TailWhip is now available for 2008 through 2023 Baggers, 2003 and newer XLs, 1996 through 2017 Dyna, and 2018 and newer Softail M8s. Finish options include Basket Weave, Double Diamond and Pleated, all made with a durable BikerTec cover.
Although the TailWhip is built for riders who like to push the limits of what a motorcycle can do, the construction methods and materials are based on LePera’s traditional craftsmanship, which has been a hallmark of the company for nearly 50 years.
The TailWhip from LePera Motorcycle Seats features a unique shape that gives riders a platform for their own creative riding styles.
Each LePera seat begins with a steel base, which ensures a perfect, contoured fit on the motorcycle. The natural dampening characteristics and tough-but-beautiful powder coated surface are enhanced by a carpeted bottom.
On top of the steel base plate, LePera’s specially-poured and formulated high-density Marathon molded foam gives the TailWhip its unique shape as well as comfort, so a rider feels good whether they are on the road or showing off. ■

Oils and Lubricants in Bulk
How important are profit and quality products for your shop? Service departments go through a lot of oil and lubricants, which means high-volume packaging is the most efficient way to go. By taking advantage of Bel-Ray’s 6-gallon containers, shops can save space, reduce waste and maximize profit, all while offering a premium brand. Bel-Ray utilizes a “bag-in-box” design for these bulk-size containers. When cost averaging, these larger containers offer your shop significant incremental profit for your business.
Designed with service departments in mind, these larger containers cut down on waste since trash cans won’t be filling up with empty 1-liter bottles. Additionally, the bladder design maximizes every last drop, further reducing waste.
The spigot on the front of the package allows you to quickly and easily pour just the right quantity, with no mess. Inside each bag is one of the Bel-Ray products dealers know and trust, and customers will know they are getting quality products when they bring their bike in for service.
The list of products available in the 6-gallon size just got bigger with the addition of BelRay’s mineral-based 10W-40 and 20W-50 engine oils. In addition to those, dealers can order shop-sized premium V-Twin Synthetic 10W-50, V-Twin Semi Synthetic 20W-50, Big Twin Transmission Oil and Primary Chaincase Lubricant. Pro-Grade Pouring
Leave it to the tool experts at Motion Pro to take some thing as straightforward as the simple shop funnel and elevate it to a feature-rich piece of shop equipment that will change the way your customers and your techs measure, mix and pour fluids.
From crankcase and transmission fluid to fork oil and premix (if your customers have a vintage 2-stroke machine), the Pro Funnel does it all. With clearly marked graduations for cc, fluid ounces and premix ratios, the Pro Funnel’s 800 cc/26-ounce capacity can be doled out precisely for accurate, drip-free fluid fill ups.
Tired of maneuvering short, widemouthed funnels around engine cases and exhaust pipes? The Pro
Funnel’s narrow jug and curved, pivoting spigot fits in well beside a bike’s engine. The big game changer here is the ball valve that lets the user control when and how much fluid is dispensed.
Other excellent features include a large, sturdy handle and an integrated magnet that makes it easy to store the Pro Funnel on the side of a tool box or bike lift. Topping it all off is a tight-fitting lid that keeps dirt and grime out during storage. ■

Race Ready Brake Pads Built for Speed
“Racers are upgrading to our SDP Sport HH+ brake pads,” said Larry Mills of DP Brakes. “Most recently some Bagger racers have equipped their bikes with RDP Titanium Pads.” Clearly, the secret is out among the Bagger racers who understand that to go fast you must, at times, go slow. These are the same brake pads sold through the FatBook for road use among street-legal performance Baggers and touring bikes alike.
The secret for going fast is found in how well you go slow. DP Brakes understands that, and to prove it the company is a major sponsor of the popular Bagger Racing League. DP Brakes also sponsors many Bagger Racing League competitors who understand that scrubbing off a bike’s speed at the racetrack is just as important as adding horsepower to the engine for top speed.
DP Brakes is helping those Performance Baggers go fast in another way, too. As riders know, the more horsepower put to the rear wheel, the faster a bike can go. To help those big bikes transfer their big power to the bike’s drivetrain, DP offers heavy-duty clutch packs that are packaged and sold through Drag Specialties’ FatBook, and are ready to use for Harley-Davidson Milwaukee-Eight models.
“Like our brake pads, our clutch packs are as popular for Performance Baggers on the street as they are for the racers at the race track,” said Mills. ■

Miles of Comfort
Handgrips that Really Perform
Riding comfort and performance riding go hand in hand, literally and figuratively speaking. Discomfort creates a distraction, which can draw a rider’s attention away from the ride and the road, affecting how he or she approaches upcoming curves and unexpected situations. A common source for rider distraction is often traced to the bike’s handgrips and how they fit the rider’s hands.
Avon Grips understands how important the connection between a rider’s hands and the bike’s handgrips can be, especially when piloting Performance Baggers or other Big Twin-powered motorcycles. The company’s solution to a comfortable ride is found with either of its two “padded” models, the Memory Foam and the Air Cushion. The Memory Foam in particular offers various sizes to assure a proper fit for different size hands. Handgrip diameters include Small, Medium and Large, all sharing a soft handgrip material composed of pliable rubber that’s durable and resistant to most garage chemicals and such. Above all, the Memory Foam offers great vibration damp-

ing to minimize bothersome tingling to the rider’s hands. The aluminum end caps are finished in chrome or black anodizing for a stylish look.
Avon Grips’ Air Cushion model has been a mainstay within the product line for years. Its design features air pockets to isolate vibration from the rider’s hands, minimizing fatigue for long rides or during high rpm stints. ■

V-Twin Exhaust Heat Control
Design Engineering, Inc. (DEI) has been at the forefront of heat control innovation for over twenty-five years, and that experience shines in their Heat Shield Liner Kits for Harleys and Indians. The Design Engineering crew aims to improve rider comfort while allowing them to maintain the look of their machine, all with a durable and simple kit.
Available for a wide range of Harley and Indian models, these kits are constructed of DEI’s proprietary Dura 2000 insulating material, plus a layer of aluminum, and are CNCcut for a precision fit. Riders simply install inside their heat shields, reducing heat and improving comfort without disrupting the exhaust’s appearance. The kits are complete, and the materials will not smoke or produce odor.
From OEM to aftermarket, Harley-Davidson exhaust systems not only deliver that distinct, Harley rumble, they are also core to a custom look. A trick looking machine is part of Harley culture, but riding comfort is important, too, especially for Bagger customers grinding out miles.
In testing, DEI Heat Shield Liners have shown to offer over a 60 percent heat reduction, depending on the application. They cover a variety of Harley and Indian stock exhausts, as well as several popular aftermarket exhaust systems ■

Spray-On Shield Detailer to Shine and Protect
Ordinary spray-on detailers are great – to a point. With a lot of silicone in their formulas you can wipe them on and everything looks bright and shiny, until it doesn’t. After as little as an hour in the sun, UV rays will have evaporated that detailer off, setting the look back to square one and exposing the surface to the elements.
Cycle Care’s C6 Detailer changes all that. More than a silicone-based detailer, C6 is infused with carbon, a hard and strong pure element. C6 molecularly bonds to the surface it’s applied to, its organometallic, silicon-dioxide compound creating a permanent molecular bond to a vehicle’s surface to achieve maximum hardness, durability and a shine that lasts.
C6 won’t wash away or break down, its nano-carbon elements creating a singular-element coating that fills in all the imperfections of a factory clear coat, adding extreme protection against UV rays, acid rain, bird droppings, road salt, environmental pollutants, alkalies, and solvents.
This advanced formulation wasn’t created overnight. Cycle Care invested years of chemical research to create C6 Detailer’s protective coating, developing and manufacturing it in the USA. A C6 carbon-infused finish doesn’t degrade and wash away, so the easily applied, high-gloss shine and durable, hydrophobic all-around protection is there for the long haul. ■

Extra Fuel When it’s Needed Most Gas on the Go FUEL
Every rider has been there. Out on some long, lonely stretch of road and not a turnoff or gas station in sight. The fuel gauge is bouncing around “Empty” and the bike’s already running in Reserve. It’s crunch time, feathering the throttle in hopes of coaxing every last mile out of the fumes left in the tank. A full REDA Gas Can in the saddlebag, maybe even two with one in each bag, will take away all that worry. Designed specifically for Harley-Davidson saddlebags, they’re shaped to fit perfectly in that back, hard-to-reach spot inside and each REDA Gas Can holds a gallon of gas. Plenty enough to put a customer’s mind at ease knowing they’re not going to end up on the side of the road with a thumb in the air.
REDA Gas Cans are cheap insurance against getting stranded out on the highway. They’re tough and EPA and CARB certified. The cans are made from high-quality materials, they’re built to last and they’re 100 percent vapor-proof and spill-proof, eliminating any concern about fumes or spilled gas in the saddlebag,
Riders might not need to pack along a REDA Gas Can every time they take a Harley out for a spin. However, when it’s a long-distance run in the offing having that extra gallon or two of gas along for the ride can significantly boost the confidence level of getting there without a hitch. ■

Strong Runner Small Parts, Big Difference
Feuling has quality replacement fuel injectors for Twin Cam, XL, V-Rod and MilwaukeeEight engines.
Engines are an ecosystem, and often it’s the little stuff that can make the difference between big power and good throttle response, and a bike that’s not quite right. Feuling knows that details like the right fuel injectors as well as accurate and responsive sensors can make all the difference. The California-based company offers a wide range of replacement high-flow injectors, oxygen sensors, throttleposition sensors, and other crucial parts for a variety of Harley-Davidson models.
Feuling has quality replacement injectors for Twin Cam, XL, V-Rod and Milwaukee-Eight engines in a multiple of flow options and spray patterns. Your customers can replace a faulty stock injector with a standard 3.8, 3.9, or 4.3 gram-per-second injector, or increase fuel delivery to as high as 8.2 g/s if the engine calls for it.
Fuel injectors are just one of many sensors that support a running engine, and just one category of replacement electronics offered by Feuling. O2 sensors, TPS, Idle Air Control Modules, MAP sensors, coolant sensors, head-temp sensors, and fuel-pressure regulators are all available from Feuling. If your customer’s bike is throwing an error code that suggests a bad sensor, Feuling has them covered.
Feuling’s fuel injectors and other electrical components are manufactured to OE specifications or better, and are excellent options for custom builds or any time a malfunctioning part needs to be replaced. ■

Full Stop Brake Components for Big Twins
From versatile cruisers to fully equipped touring models, big twin-powered Harley-Davidson machines are designed to deliver the power and comfort riders want. Yet, the rolling weight of these bikes must be able to come to a controllable stop, a worry no longer thanks to EBC Brakes.
Leveraging over four decades of experience, the EBC team has developed a comprehensive lineup of brake pads and rotors built specifically to deliver the braking power and reliability that big twin motorcycles demand.
EBC’s brake pad lineup has something for any type of customer, from quality OE replacement to highperformance. The OE-replacement pads are constructed in the UK using organic, eco-friendly materials providing superior friction qualities with low disc abrasion and dust.
Developed specifically for touring bikes, EBC’s V-Pads are semi-sintered, meaning they combine the best qualities of an organic pad with the endurance of a sintered equivalent. This makes these pads perfect for those bagger customers clocking in miles.
Meanwhile, performance riders looking for maximum stopping power will want the American-made, Double-H full-sintered pad. Utilizing high-friction, sintered material, these pads deliver extreme brake effect with virtually no brake fade.
Whichever pads your customers need, EBC’s polished stainless and black chrome rotors for big twins are designed to simultaneously maximize strength and style, offering significant reduction in warping along with a custom look, creating an ultimate big twin brake package ■

Rolling Right Style Upgrades for Two, Three Wheelers
Coastal Moto’s popular Marlin 3D wheels are now available in an eye-catching new Bronze color. The subtle, but snazzy, hoops feature Coastal Moto’s 3Dcontoured design that stretches across the full depth and width of the wheel.
The Marlin 3D wheels are a direct bolt-on for 2000-2023 Harley Touring models like the Street Glide, Road Glide, Electra Glide, and Road King, with a 3.5 x 21-inch front and a 5.5 x 18inch rear. The front wheel is designed to accept lug-mounted OEM or aftermarket brake rotors, while the rear hub accommodates the stock brake rotor, cush-drive and pulley. They come ready to roll with bearings and valve stems installed by Coastal Moto. Note that only front wheels are available for pre-2009 FL Glides and Road Kings.
The wheels can be ordered in versions that accept Harleys’ ABS and tire-pressuring monitoring systems (TPMS), with the ABS model using bearings that seamlessly function with the factory’s linked-braking system – no reprogramming required. Coastal Moto backs up the quality of its products with a lifetime warranty on the structure and a two-year warranty on the finishes. Retail prices start at $999.95 each.
One of the strongest segments in motorcycling is the Trike market, with the new Road Glide 3 joining HarleyDavidson’s Tri-Glide and Freewheeler platforms in 2023. Coastal Moto is hip to the Trike scene, so it offers up an expansive range of options for riders on three wheels.
Few accessories alter the appearance of a motorcycle more dramatically than aftermarket wheels, and Coastal Moto has been offering attractive options for riders since 2008. It was the first company to develop a fully 3D one-piece 21-inch front wheel with a Harley-Davidson integrated hub. This patent-pending manufacturing process allows for a structurally solid and intricate design to be produced at a fraction of the cost of a forged or billet wheel.
Coastal Moto’s popular Marlin 3D wheels are now available in an eye-catching new Bronze color, which joins the three existing finishes – Chrome, Black Cut (with machined edges), and Solid Black. The subtle, but snazzy, hoops feature Coastal Moto’s 3D-contoured design that stretches across the full depth and width of the wheel.
The Florida-based company’s Largo 3D wheels are a popular seller in the motorcycle segment so it’s adding the Largo 3D Trike Wheel to its 2023 lineup, which also utilizes the company’s proprietary Cast 3D manufacturing process.
The 7 x 18-inch wheels are a direct bolt-on and include center caps and they can be set up to be compatible with TPMS and ABS. As with all Coastal Moto wheels, the Largo 3D Trike wheels are fitted with bearings and valve stems pre-installed at the factory. They are offered in a choice of Black Cut with machined edges or Chrome, with a pair retailing for $1,999.90. ■
