It’s Show Time!

Seems like just yesterday that we were in Louisville to kick off the 2024 season at the LeMans’ Winter NVP Product Expo. Fast forward to early September, and we’ll be heading to Milwaukee to the new home for the Summer edition of LeMans’ bi-annual dealer and sales rep convention. Be sure to mark the date and place: September 7-8 at the Baird Center in Milwaukee.

Most of you know the drill about how this long-running convention of Drag Specialties, Parts Unlimited and Parts Canada sales reps, vendors and dealers comes together. By the time the doors open for the Dealer Expo on September 7th, your Drag sales rep will have already been through two days of new product presentations by the designers and builders of those many great V-Twin products found in the FatBook

These are the same manufacturer’s representatives that you will be talking to on the show floor. Having both you and your Drag sales rep informed about the products you sell is your assurance that once you get home from the NVP, if some product question arises, you can contact your Drag sales rep for the answers you need.

There are no motorcycle dealer events in North America that are larger than the LeMans NVP Product Expos, and for good reason. We hope that you will come be a part of it at the Baird Center on September 7-8. ■

Looking forward to seeing you there!

BLACK HILLS MOTORCYCLE SHOW

DEADWOOD MOUNTAIN GRAND – DEADWOOD, SOUTH DAKOTA: MAY 25 TH Rod Olson photos

In what organizers called a grassroots celebration of motorcycling, the Black Hills Motorcycle Show returned to Deadwood, South Dakota for an extravaganza recognizing a wide array of custom V-Twin builders.

The family-friendly event in May kicked off riding season for the region as it heads into the legendary Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Hosted by longtime Drag Specialties dealer Deadwood Custom Cycles, the show saw 2,500 guests, 117 bikes and 35 vendors set up at the historic Deadwood Mountain Grand.

“The show is all about attracting builders of all stripes,” said Jason Mook, owner of Deadwood Custom Cycles. “I want the guy who might never enter a show at the Rally, but is still proud as punch about the bike he built.”

Mook said the Black Hills and surrounding region has a rich and devoted motorcycle culture filled with businesses and enthusiasts who work hard before, during and after the Rally, who might not get to enjoy everything the annual

event has to offer. He said the Black Hills Motorcycle Show offers them a place to gather and celebrate motorcycling.

The show is also a fundraiser, and after expenses, all proceeds go to the Sacred Mountain Retreat Center, a local organization that supports veterans and first responders healing from trauma. This year’s show raised $20,500 for the center.

This year’s show attracted such legendary builders as Cory Ness, Donnie Smith and Paul Yaffe, as well as a host of local builders, enthusiasts and small shops.

Given the grassroots nature of the show, there are a wide range of classes to recognize the best the region’s builders have to offer. “The thing about the Black Hills is we have so many locals who own motorcycles and ride,” Mook said. “They still spend their hard-earned money on them. They still put parts on them.” The goal, he added, is to have a show where it’s simply all about the motorcycling community and the bikes they ride. ■

2024 BAGGER RACING LEAGUE ROUNDS 1

AND 2

DRAG SPECIALTIES BATTLE OF THE BAGGERS: HASTINGS, NEBRASKA

The Drag Specialties Bagger Racing League launched in 2021 and has been on a roll ever since, focusing on racing events for the custom and performance V-Twin community. Building on that debut, the BRL continues to offer a grassroots venue for riders with a range of skills looking for a chance to get their Performance Baggers out on the racetrack.

Though many of the teams have some level of sponsorship, whether by an aftermarket company or dealership, the camaraderie at a BRL race event has the feel of privateer racing. This has been a big driving force in the popularity of the series.

The Bagger Racing League (BRL) kicked off its thrilling season with Round 1 and 2 of the Drag Specialties Battle of the Baggers at Motorsport Park Hastings in Hastings, Nebraska, on May 24 and 25. The event was filled with excitement and intense competition, showcasing some of the best in Performance Bagger motorcycle racing.

ROUND 1 HIGHLIGHTS

The race weekend started with a bang with a lively kickoff party at Kitty’s Roadhouse on Thursday evening. Friday’s practice sessions were action-packed, as riders set blistering lap times and new racers honed their skills in racing school. Saturday morning brought a bit of wind, but it didn’t deter the racers’ spirits. Qualifying sessions set the stage for thrilling races throughout the day. In the Barnett Clutches and Cables Super-Street Bagger Class, Jake Masters of Suburban Motors Harley-Davidson/Performance Machine showcased

his prowess, overtaking early leader Carl Schlacht to claim the overall win. He was joined on the podium by Chris Rivas and Shawn Hoffman.

Other notable winners included Feuling/Goeleven Team’s Ruben Xaus in the premier Andrews Products Bagger GP class. Samuel Guerin of Original Garage Moto followed up in second place, with Suburban Motors/Slyfox rider Jesse Janisch coming in third place.

In the Pirelli Pro-Stock Bagger Class, another Suburban Motors rider, Cody Gilmore took the checkers, followed by yet one more Suburban Motors rider Arnie Wells in second, and Tony Sollima of FDR Foundation/YoungBlood Krew in third.

Drifter Cross presented by Slyfox Performance added another layer of excitement to the event, captivating spectators with its unique blend of racing and skill. The

concept of Drifter Cross is simple; a course is set up, and a rider has to get through it while the clock is running. Any mistakes result in time being added.

For example, if a rider is supposed to be doing a full drift circle around an obstacle, and they hit the obstacle in the process, a second will be added to their time. It’s important to not just go quickly, but to be clean, too.

While the concept is simple, actually doing Drifter Cross is not. This series is designed to really test the competitors, resulting in an incredible display of control and skill. Drifting, J-turns and even jumps are on the list of potential tasks required to get from start to finish.

Live music serenaded the crowd into the sunset, wrapping up an exhilarating day of racing.

ROUND 2 HIGHLIGHTS

Sunday marked Round 2 of the Battle of the Baggers, with riders eager to claim the championship belts. The action resumed with the Barnett Clutches and Cables Super-Street Bagger class, where Jake Masters once again showcased his skill by securing the overall win. Coming in second place was Rocket Performance’s Chris Rivas, followed by Shawn Hoffman of Underground Team Racing in third.

The day saw impressive performances across various classes, with riders battling it out as they competed for the win. There were notable victories for Speed Farm’s Carl Schlacht, who won the Zipper’s American Twin Unlimited class. In the runner-up slot was Original Garage Moto’s Samual Guérin and Alloy Art’s Oleg Pianykh in third.

Suburban Motors’ Cody Gilmore completed back-to-back wins in the Pirelli Pro Stock Bagger class, and was up on the podium with Suburban’s Arnie Well in second and Eric Reyes in third.

In the highlight race of the weekend, the Andrews Products Bagger GP class final showdown delivered a thrilling spectacle, with Feuling/Goeleven Team’s Ruben Xaus earning the victory ahead of Original Garage Moto’s Samuel Guerin and Suburban/Slyfox rider Jesse Janisch.

The first race weekend of the Bagger Racing League’s season at Motorsport Park Hastings was a resounding success, featuring intense competition, thrilling races and unforgettable moments. As of press time, the teams and riders were geared up for Rounds 3 and 4 at Gingerman Raceway in South Haven, Michigan in late June, and the excitement continued to build, promising another weekend of heart-pounding action.

For Rounds 5 and 6, all the hot Bagger racing action heads north to Canada where the Bagger Racing League will make its international debut at the Canadian Tire Motorsports Park in early August.

The CTMP circuit, known as “Canada’s Home of Motorsport,” with its 2.459 mile (3.957 km) Grand Prix layout, ten turns, dramatic elevation changes, and the iconic Mario Andretti Straightaway, will serve as the newest battleground for the BRL riders.

STREET-WISE STREET BOB

Harley-Davidson’s FXBB Street Bob is a perfect match for Drag Specialties’ banner slogan, “From Our Garage to Yours.” As a member of Harley-Davidson’s model family since 2006, the minimalist Street Bob is very suitable for customizing.

“Without a doubt, the Street Bob’s raw, stripped-down design serves as the perfect blank slate for a Drag Specialties project bike,” says Drag Specialties’ National Sales Manager Greg Matter. “Especially one for showcasing new products featured for the first time in the FatBook, making it the perfect candidate for joining Drag Specialties’ annual Dealer Training Tour – a program that visits Drag dealers across the nation.”

Early this year a slightly used 2020 FXBB Street Bob became available for Matter’s office to customize, so he obtained it for the 2024 Dealer Training Tour. Besides traveling with the

Dealer Training Tour, the custom is slated for display at the NVP Product Expo in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, too.

However, before the modified Street Bob and its Road Glide stablemate were prepped for duty, Matter sat down with Tom Motzko to create the build sheet of new products, all of which are listed in the FatBook so that dealers can refer to them when interacting with their customers. With the 2020 Street Bob’s parts manifest completed, Joe Houpt and his crew at Suburban Motors in Thiensville, Wisconsin, set about transforming the all-stock bike into a street-wise custom that takes many of its styling cues from the Bagger Racing League’s Air-Cooled Big Twins class.

As these photos illustrate, the Street Bob’s new Klock Werks FXRP fairing kit certainly gives the Street Bob a racy appearance. Best of all, Klock Werks’ sleek street fairing is a

rather straightforward, yet stylish, quick-and-easy bolt-on affair that can be fitted with the optional Klock Werks Kolor Flare 9-inch windshield that helps streamline the ride.

Filling the fairing’s front opening sits a Custom Dynamics 7-inch ProBEAM LED Adaptive Black headlamp. Positioned dead center on the fairing’s front, the LED headlamp gives the bike somewhat of a futuristic, even high-tech, appearance. Tucked elsewhere within the fairing’s confines you’ll find a pair of compact, yet efficient, Smart LED Bullet turn signals plucked from Custom Dynamics’ vast inventory.

Houpt points out that the best handlebar combination they found to maintain the bike’s West Coast styling image was to equip the Street Bob with Arlen Ness’ 1-inch Welded Stainless MX handlebars on a Thrashin Supply 9½-inch Black Pullback riser kit. The assembly is cinched into place using Drag Specialties’ Smooth Socket Head riser bolts. The cockpit also features Arlen Ness’ Method Black clutch and brake lever set, plus Arlen Ness’ Diamond Black hand grips that contrast well with the Arlen Ness Orange Forged Oval mirrors. Perhaps readers with keen eyes for detail have already spotted the Klock Werks Handlebar Perch iOmount in the mix. It’s a handy, compact unit for making a smartphone a part of the ride.

The bike’s orange-with-black color theme became part of its customization treatment, too, and you can start with the black Saddlemen Step-Up seat that’s so popular with many West Coast and BRL street conversions. Saddlemen’s own orange honeycomb stitch pattern helps maintain the orange/black color theme, something that Houpt sought in keeping the bike’s identity linked with the famous Milwaukee brand. His Suburban Motors crew also peeled off the bike’s original silver striping, replacing it with matching orange pinstripes. Subtle, yet stylish.

Fenders can make or break a motorcycle’s styling treatment. To maintain the Street Bob’s trimmed-down look up front, and give it a custom flare, the crew installed a Klock Werks Hugger Series P-Tom 19-inch front fender. That abbreviated front fender helps showcase the Performance Machine Black five-spoke Pro-Am 19˝x3˝ front wheel that’s wrapped with a Michelin Commander 3 111 100/90-19 tire. Similar wheels and hoops were selected for the rear where, topside of the bike’s stock rear fender, you’ll find Cobra’s Detachable passenger black backrest assembly that includes a handy Cobra Universal Tube-Style luggage rack.

Now, about that passenger backrest. From day-one, the Street Bob has been Harley’s minimalist

Big Twin model,
"Without a doubt, the Street Bob's raw, stripped down design serves as the perfect blank slate for a Drag Specialties project bike," says Drag National Sales Manager Greg Matter. Suburban Motors HarleyDavidson took this notion and ran with it.
The rear of the Street Bob got Cobra's detachable black backrest for ultimate utility and style. The rear tire is a Michelin Commander II.
Up front, the Suburban crew wrapped a Performance Machine black Pro-Am wheel with Michelin's Commander III tire. PM's fourpiston calipers grab a matching Pro-Am rotor.
That Klock Werks' Kolor Flare 9-inch windshield in orange sets the tone for the OEcorrect orange and black theme.

with accommodations for only a rider, no passenger. That means no rear seat and no passenger foot pegs. And so, to compliment the Saddlemen seat’s passenger section Houpt reached into the Arlen Ness parts bin for their Trax Black passenger footpegs for the rear. A set of Moose Black aluminum driver footpegs with Drag Specialties’ Black Custom Stealth Tone black shift peg sits up front. Convenient, functional and stylish!

Houpt and company made sure that this isn’t just a show bike, but a go bike, thanks to upgrades to the engine and driveline. The Suburban Motors crew replaced the stock clutch with a durable Rekluse Torqdrive clutch kit. That was followed by a Performance Machine Race Black Ops cable clutch cover, and that combo was matched with PM’s Black Ops derby cover, transmission top cover, and a new 76-tooth rear Pro Am pulley.

Upgraded handling performance is found in the Bob’s suspension modifications, too. Up front, Legend Suspensions’ AXEO 49mm front suspension kit was fitted with Arlen Ness Black 49mm fork tubes. The rear suspension includes Legend’s Air-A Mono rear suspension kit. Result of the suspension upgrade? A smoother ride for cruising and extended rides, and snappier handling performance at speed.

As we near the end of this walk-around, let’s stop to examine the Street Bob’s brake upgrade – an important modification for any FatBook project bike. Matter and Motzko came up with an interesting product mix that’s based on Performance Machine and Drag Specialties components. Up front you’ll find PM’s four-piston Contrast Cut left-side front caliper with a two-piece Pro-Am Black Ops brake rotor. The rear brake sports PM’s four-piston Differential Black Ops rear brake caliper that squeezes PM’s Pro-Am rear brake rotor. Drag Specialties’ Black rotor mounting bolt kits secure both brake packages in place.

Drag dealers attending the Dealer Training Tour stops will have the Street Bob and a host of other custom builds to examine up close at each stop. Perhaps the most significant stop, though, will be at Milwaukee’s Baird Center for the NVP Product Expo, September 7-8. That’s when the Street Bob and the other project bikes return to Wisconsin to showcase their goods.

» In the meantime, talk with your Drag reps about attending a Dealer Training Tour stop in your area.

Premium Oil for Revolution Max Engines

Riders put a lot of thought and care into what goes onto a bike, from parts that enhance the looks to those that make a trip more comfortable. That same care is important when it comes to what goes into a motorcycle, as well. Drag Specialties offers a range of oils to suit different types of V-Twin engines and bikes at all stages of their life, from vintage to fresh off the showroom floor.

The new Drag Specialties Premium synthetic blend 15W-50 was formulated specifically for the Harley-Davidson Revolution Max engine. This engine powers the Pan America as well as the Sportster S, meaning the oil is great for any kind of adventure. The high-quality oil is made in the USA and meets all the warranty criteria for Harley engines.

The synthetic blend 15W-50 comes in both 1-quart and 1-gallon sizes, so there are options to suit both customers who do their own oil changes as well as shops that need a larger volume on hand. The 1-quart size comes 12 to a box, while the gallon-sized bottles come in a package of 6. Oil certainly isn’t a glamorous product, but that’s no excuse for lackluster packaging. One of the hallmarks of Drag Specialties Premium products is the way they are presented, with attractive packaging and labels that are clear and easy to read at a glance. The 15W-50 oil is no exception, and its look is designed to be eye-catching on the shelf or as part of a product display.

PREMIUM HIGH-PERFORMANCE PROTECTION

Drag Specialties 15W-50 oil is an all-new synthetic blend formulated to protect H-D® Revolution Max™ motors. Its high-quality base stocks and highly engineered additives provide excellent protection against wear and breakdown as well as excellent cold start protection.

Custom detergents keep your engine cleaner with less deposits while meeting warranty performance criteria for H-D® engines.

In addition to synthetic blend oils like the 15W-50, Drag Specialties also has a full range of full synthetic and mineral oils available for both Harleys and Indians. All of Drag’s oils are engineered to suit the higher heat and rpms of V-Twin engines so riders can rely on them for longer engine life and smooth operation.

In all, Drag Specialties has plenty of solutions for motor, primary and transmission oil. Some oils target specific types of bikes, like the Drag Specialties Premium Synthetic 15W-60 and 20W-40 for Indian models or the synthetic 80W-140 transmission oil for Big Twins.

Other types of oils take the riding conditions into consideration. Several of Drag’s mineral-based engine oils, including the 20W-60, 20W-50 and 10W-40—are designed for V-twins being ridden in various ambient temperatures.

In addition to quart and gallon sizing, some of the Drag Specialties oils are available in 55-gallon drums, making it easy for service shops to have the most common oils on hand in bulk. ■

METZELER CRUISETEC

Upgrade Your Ride with the Metzeler Cruisetec, the ultimate V-Twin tire engineered for unparalleled performance. Whether cruising through winding roads or navigating city streets, the Cruisetec’s dualcompound rubber and advanced carcass construction ensure maximum grip and stability in all conditions. Elevate your riding experience and confidently conquer the road, knowing that the Metzeler Cruisetec has your back. Available from Drag Specialties dealers nationwide.

Metzeler incorporates the knowledge gained at the highest levels of roadracing into its entire range of motorcycle tires. This means the Cruisetec tires used by your V-Twin customers when out carving up the corners have racing in their DNA.

the ultimate test, with high speeds, hard braking, heavy lateral loads in cornering and – in the case of road courses like the Isle of Man – plenty of bumps and nuances in the road that tires must be able to stand up to.

By having a focus on racing, Metzeler can develop its tires and technologies at a whole new level of durability, reliability and performance. The knowledge gained in the highest levels of racing is then applied to tires across Metzeler’s entire line, including the Cruisetec tires for V-Twins. Even though Cruisetec tires aren’t designed for racing, they still have racing in their DNA.

Metzeler once again provided its RACETEC RR tires to competitors at the Isle of Man TT, including standouts Davey

Every spring, motorcycle racing enthusiasts turn their attention to a tiny island nation situated between England and Ireland. The Isle of Man TT is one of those annual events that draws fans and competitors from all over the world, and this year, Metzeler was once again there for all the excitement.

The 2024 Isle of Man TT was one for the Metzeler history books as rider Davey Todd took a decisive Senior TT win on Metzeler RACETEC RR tires. Todd also gave the tire brand top honors in Superstock, and he set the quickest lap time ever for a Ducati, with an average of 128.785mph around the legendary Mountain Course.

This is the second year that Metzeler has been the Official Tire Partner of the Isle of Man TT. The partnership is slated to last through 2027, which means Metzeler will still be the official tire for the event’s 120th running.

Like the Isle of Man, Metzeler has a long history in motorcycle racing. Competition is a chance to put tires to

Unlike closed road racing circuits, these road courses are laid out on roads that are usually open to the public. All the imperfections that we know from our own commutes can be found on these road courses, but the racers are facing them at much faster speeds. That means the RACETEC RR tires have to blend high-performance racing characteristics with the durability necessary for the street.

Prior to heading to this year’s Isle of Man TT, both Irwin and Todd put the RACETEC RR tire through its paces at the North West 200 road race. The two of them each took three wins throughout the weekend, giving Metzeler spectacular results. In addition to bragging rights and trophies, the wins also give Metzeler more data for future tire development. ■

HANDLEBARS FOR THE NEW 2024 TOURING MODELS

With the release of the new 2024 HarleyDavidson Road Glide and Street Glide, the aftermarket needed to get its R&D departments revved up to produce products for these new bikes. That’s exactly what LA Choppers did, starting with the adaptation of the company’s tried and true Twin Peaks handlebars.

LA Choppers jumped at the opportunity to release an aftermarket handlebar for the 2024 Road Glide, which isn’t a surprise as the company has long been a major force in handlebar manufacturing for the V-Twin industry.

The LA Choppers team immediately purchased a new Road Glide and a new Street Glide and got started! When tearing down these new bikes the team realized a few things. First, the grips on the new bikes were completely different from previous grips. The wiring holes top and bottom had also been relocated from where they were located on older bikes.

You know what that means? Lots of new samples, test fitting and fixturing! Once the R&D department built some samples and installed bars onto the test mules, the marketing team gave its opinion on wiring slot position, bar angles and overall heights. After many different design iterations, LA Choppers finally came to an agreement on what would be best for its customers. The company now has an extremely adjustable handlebar that will work for any height and rider body type.

In addition to the Twin Peaks, the company has also come up with 1¼-inch Prime Apes, 1½-inch Prime Apes, Kage Fighter T-Bars, Twin Rounds, Threshers, Hammerheads and Moto bars. So basically, there is a style of handlebar for just about any customer who walks in the door. As with all LA Choppers products, these handlebars are 100 percent Made in the USA – Huntington Beach, California to be specific. The bars are also available in two finishes, Bright Chrome and Gloss Black.

Speaking of new handlebars, LA Choppers is also proud to introduce its new Moto Top bar for all years and models of Harley-Davidson. These 1-inch bars were designed with the rider in mind. They measure 29½-inches wide with three different end rise options – 2 ½ inches, 3½ inches, and 4½ inches, giving your customers the ability to mix and match just about any bar and riser combo.

In addition to the standard Chrome and Black finishes, these are also available in brushed stainless steel, allowing your customers to perfectly match that stainless exhaust! These bars pair perfectly with the LA Choppers Performance Risers, which are available in 6-inch, 8-inch, and 10-inch heights, straight and pullback.

CABLE KITS

For 2024 touring bikes, LA Choppers also introduced its range of plug-and-play cable kits. These are a direct bolton install, taking all of the complicated cable calculations out of the process of swapping out handlebars. Simply choose your customers desired finish, the cable kit that

LA Choppers has updated its popular Twin Peaks handlebars to fit the 2024 Harley-Davidson Road Glide and Street Glide models. The bars have reconfigured wiring holes for the new models, and offer a stylish upgrade in comfort and style for your customers.

When it comes time for a handlebar swap, check out LA Choppers’ extensive lineup of plug-and-play cable kits. They’re a wallet-friendly upgrade for upgrading cables and lines when installing taller handlebars.

fits the end rise of the handlebar, and give the order to your Drag Specialties rep. This is the simplest way to get a proper length cable kit for a Harley with aftermarket (taller) handlebars.

To take things one step further, LA Choppers also introduced its upper-only cable kits. These are offered in black vinyl to match the OEM cables, and include the upper brake line and clutch cable.

They are offered with and without the plug-and-play wiring, and retail between $225 - $280. Not only are they a great cost savings for your customers, but they also cut down on labor costs, as the dealership is only replacing one brake line rather than three. These new kits are sure to shake up the market.

Those new 2024 Touring bikes can also be outfitted with LA Choppers’ premium County Line billet accessories. The range includes everything from floorboards and brake pedals, to shift linkages and derby covers.

Going Global

From One Additive to a Worldwide Brand

What began as a small company with one product is now a globally recognized brand with more than 4,000 items on offer. LIQUI MOLY is well known both in the powersports industry and beyond, and these days, the company distributes its products to nearly 150 countries.

LIQUI MOLY products are primarily based on the company’s own in-house formulations, which makes it easier for the company to maintain its strict quality standards. And, because there are so many different products available, there are formulas for very specific uses. In the powersports industry, that translates to oils and lubricants dedicated to V-Twins, products to help older motors run their best, performance additives for those who want a horsepower boost, and more.

In all, LIQUI MOLY produces a full range of motorcycle oils and lubricants, including engine and transmission oils, gear oils, additives, greases, pastes, cleaners and other products designed to help a motorcycle function at its best. Benefits of LIQUI MOLY products include reduced fuel consumption, corrosion protection, improved performance and long-lasting engines.

In addition to the motorcycle and powersports segments, LIQUI MOLY also has products for automotive, boats, heavy-duty and car care as well as service products. This broad range of expertise allows LIQUI MOLY to develop and implement new formulations and technologies at a rapid pace, so the company’s products remain at the forefront of what is possible.

This competitive edge is maintained through constant research and development. New products start as raw

materials, and LIQUI MOLY uses high-quality materials that are sourced from reliable partners and thoroughly tested before use. The development department then tests, analyzes and tests again until the right formulation is found for a new product. From there, practical testing is carried out to further refine the product, ensuring that it is ready for use on the street, track or trail.

The work doesn’t end with testing new products, though. Used motor oil is also tested to make sure products are achieving the desired results and performing exactly as expected. By being so thorough, LIQUI MOLY is able to continue offering high-quality products that dealer and rider alike can rely on.

The brand name “LIQUI MOLY” comes from the shortened term for the liquified version of molybdenum (MoS2) which is normally a solid lubricant. This “liquid moly” was found at U.S. Army posts in Europe following World War II, and when added to motor oil, it helped a vehicle continue running in the event of sudden oil loss. This product was so effective that even aircraft could use it. If an aircraft engine lost all the oil pressure, it would remain lubricated because the MoS2 had adhered to the metal parts, keeping things running long enough for an emergency landing.

In 1957, entrepreneur Hans Henle acquired the LIQUI MOLY name and the patent for the oil additive containing the MoS2. Motorcycle dealers are probably familiar with the brand’s MoS2 Shooter, which is derived from this original product and helps minimize friction and wear.

LIQUI MOLY added a few other items, like grease and installation paste, to its initial product lineup. It was a humble beginning to what has become such a large company and an extensive range of products.

In the 1970s, LIQUI MOLY began to expand outside its home country of Germany, and into several other European countries before arriving in South America and other countries. LIQUI MOLY entered the U.S. market in 2008. Fuel additives joined the lineup in 1973. Today, there are additives like the Motorbike Speed Additive. Perfectly dosed for a motorcycle’s gas tank, this product improves acceleration and combustion, and it helps clean the fuel system for smooth operation. LIQUI MOLY’S Gasoline Stabilizer is ideal for bikes going into long-term storage, like during the winter months, and the Motorbike 4T Bike Additive removes deposits while improving engine efficiency.

By the end of the 1970s, LIQUI MOLY had added motor oil to its business, too. Of course, the MoS2 was already added to the formulations, but separate additives were also a part of the product line.

Today, motorcycles benefit from products like the Motorbike Engine Flush, which helps collect buildup and sludge, so it can all be drained out during a routine oil change. When it comes to oil, there are specialty products like the Motorbike HD Synth SAE 20W-50 Street, which has been specially formulated for certain Harley-Davidson models.

LIQUI MOLY has been at its present headquarters in Ulm-Lehr, Germany, since 1978. All the developments and growth that happened at the end of that decade ushered in the modern LIQUI MOLY as we know it, with an extensive product range and global reach. ■

Electric Dreams

CELEBRATES 25 YEARS OF HIGH-QUALITY COMPONENTS

Seemingly small creations and ideas can often seem insignificant in the moment, but hold great potential yet to be seen. Such is the story with Jeff Zielinski and the establishment of his brand, NAMZ Custom Cycle Products. 2024 marks the year NAMZ proudly celebrates its 25th anniversary, as well as the innovation, passion and growth that has occurred over the past quarter of a century in business.

Like any new passion-driven business, NAMZ didn’t just appear on the market one day with a full catalog of proven products. As far back as 1983, Jeff built his profession and passion for motorcycles turning wrenches, working on everything from go-carts to dirtbikes. He took pride in his work and continued to look ahead to the next challenge, eventually replacing his desire to just repair motorcycles with a desire to create something that delivered quantifiable improvements for riders.

This trajectory led Zielinski to design and build bikes of his own, dreaming up ideas and ensuring his vision came to life down to the smallest details. While working on his project builds, Zielinski came up with a new way to build and protect a wiring harness for a custom bike. His new design took a stainless-steel braiding concept proven in brake lines and applied it to wiring harnesses, providing better protection,

more organized application, and an improved look. This was a new concept for people, and it caught many riders’ attention enough that it led to Zielinski officially forming NAMZ Custom Cycle Products in 1999.

The modest beginnings of NAMZ saw Zielinski operating the custom motorcycle electrics brand out of an 8-foot x 10-foot office in his house. This is where he began expanding NAMZ’s range of products – conceiving, testing and proving different American-made electrical components that he knew would be in demand by motorcyclists.

NAMZ hit several milestones within the first handful of years in operation, gaining Arlen Ness as a distributor in 2000, and even getting into the iconic Hamsters motorcycle organization in 2004. Jeff and his team at NAMZ have continuously added new product lines and categories to serve riders and builders, including OEM and custom wiring harnesses, connectors, terminals, installation supplies, primary wire, heat shrink, switches, fuses and circuit breakers, just to name a few.

Today, all these products come out of NAMZ’s 24,000-squarefoot manufacturing facility in Oreland, Pennsylvania, massive steps in operational size away from its home office beginnings. “When I incorporated in 1999, I never thought that

the business would grow into what it is today,” Zielinski said.

“We’re so very thankful to our customers for their support! We are so excited to share this with everyone as this year is a huge milestone for NAMZ, our 25th anniversary in business!”

The quality of NAMZ’s products has remained high throughout the years, and Zielinski remains committed to never sacrificing that reputation. NAMZ holds many patents for its designs and products, and has even made the investments to own its own tooling, playing a key role in the originality of NAMZ products and its ability to manufacture products truly unique to its brand. NAMZ’s production processes and designs are so trusted that they also supply private label operations for OEM customers worldwide.

Over these passion-filled years, Zielinski and NAMZ haven’t just supported the motorcycle industry with quality products, but has also backed the sport’s professional racing side. NAMZ was a proud supporter of the Bagger Racing League for three seasons, and Zielinski and his crew continue to support Team Saddlemen competing in King of the Baggers. It’s a perfect fit, because if you don’t have reliable electric components on the race bikes, it’s going to be a bad day at the track!

Along the journey of growth and success for NAMZ, Zielinski has always been known as an idea guy. Regardless of the point in the business’ stage, his wheels never stop turning, fueling his determination to continue making that next idea a reality.

A major part of Zielinski’s ongoing ideas has been his desire to make NAMZ parts from scratch. This is something he’s seen to fruition for several components over the last eight years. Building on this and in the light of NAMZ being in its 25 year of business, Zielinski is committing to investing in and growing the NAMZ product line.

Across the company’s product lineup, NAMZ customers can rest assured they are always getting the quality and passion that Zielinski has poured into NAMZ since day one ■

Lighten Up A

Clutch for Improved Power, Lever Feel

The right aftermarket clutch can be an upgrade for the bike and rider alike. The new APEX manual clutch system from Rekluse is now available for the Harley-Davidson market, giving riders a smoother, lighter lever pull while also providing a quick way to improve power delivery and torque.

The APEX clutch system is compatible with a wide range of Twin Cam and Milwaukee-Eight Big Twins from 2007 to current models. Rekluse knows that reduced lever pull effort and smooth lever feel are important to Harley riders. The APEX is a manual clutch system that does both of those things well for all types of riding styles and performance

levels. To achieve this, Rekluse has combined proprietary technology, meticulous testing and innovative design. Plus, the APEX clutch system is proudly made in the USA.

After installing an APEX clutch system, the first thing a rider will notice is the difference it makes at the lever. Engaging the clutch is smoother, and the lighter lever pull is a great way to keep hands and fingers safe from fatigue, especially on longer rides. The clutch system makes it easy to find neutral, too.

In addition to giving riders both comfort and performance, the APEX clutch system is also an ideal choice for longevity. The FixedPin hub, which was designed and patented by Rekluse, uses steel-on-steel contact with the drive plates. This is a big upgrade over the OEM hub, which is a steel-on-aluminum design. By sticking with steel, durability is increased, hub notching is eliminated and the clutch lever is smoother to operate.

Rekluse designed the APEX clutch system to be compatible with everything from bikes right off the showroom floor to performance-minded customs. The APEX system uses six clutch springs, but every package includes two different sets of springs. One set has a stiffer spring rate, so a rider can choose the softer springs, the stiffer springs or a combination of both. That means there are three clutch spring options to fine-tune the system, enabling a rider to tune for stock power, mid-power or up to 200+ lb-ft of torque. No matter which setup a rider chooses, the clutch will always maintain that improved lever feel.

Torque also gets a boost from Rekluse’s TorqDrive friction disk technology. The APEX clutch system is designed to fit up to 8 additional friction disks, resulting in as much as a 60% increase in torque capacity.

The APEX also features a hard-anodized billet pressure plate. That adds to the strength of the clutch system because the billet is strong, but also because the design makes the oil flow more efficiently and thoroughly. Heat is reduced, and reliability is increased. ■

Carrying a Custom Tire Choices for Top Builders

The top custom bike builders know that every detail counts, right down to the tires. Avon tires are a popular choice among builders who know they can count on Avon’s variety of styles and sizes to get exactly the right look for their project. Builders Roy Martin of Roys Toys Customs and Mike Rabideau of Majik Mike Designs also count on the great ride Avon tires deliver, so they can show off their skills at a show or on the road.

Roy Martin prefers Avon’s Cobra Chrome tire for his builds, in part because it’s available in such an incredible variety of sizes. Recently, Roy wrapped up a bike with a 17-inch 330 rear tire. The Softail he’s building for this year’s Buffalo Chip at Sturgis will feature a 250 rear.

Roy prefers a clean, hot-rod inspired style, making the Cobra Chrome a great choice in terms of both aesthetics and rideability. Roy notes, “I love the tread pattern and the logo with the cobra, and they handle good.”

Handling and quality are important, especially for customs that are made to be ridden. “When you’re building high-end customs, you can’t skimp on the brand of tires or the brakes,” Roy says. “Avon tires, with the styling and the sizes, have been our number one choice for customs.”

Roy also likes how easy they are to mount and dismount from a wheel. As he points out, no one wants to spend thousands of dollars on a custom set of wheels, only to struggle to mount tires on them. “They’re not just tires,” Roy

says. “They follow our design ethos: precision, performance and reliability.”

For the past 12 years, Mike Rabideau has been counting on Avon tires to hold his custom bikes up, too. Mike has an affinity for vintage bikes, which means he needs a tire to match the look of his builds. The Avon Speedmaster MKII tire gives him the throwback look combined with modern reliability.

“They’re just a good vintage tire to use for retro and vintage motorcycles where you want to keep the tires periodcorrect to the era it was built,” Mike says. “It’s a vintage look, and they’re priced affordably.”

There’s something special about breathing new life into a vintage bike, and having quality tires with a retro look is part of making that happen. Mike says it’s important for a brand like Avon to offer a vintage-style tire so builders like him can continue refreshing iconic bikes with the detail they deserve.

Mike recently built a 1979 Shovelhead fitted with Avon Speedmaster MKII tires, and it’s a perfect example of Mike’s passion. “To put that back on the road is satisfying to me,” he says. “To take something old that’s not running and just sitting around, and to make a showpiece out of it.” ■

Approved Power Performance Exhaust for M8 Baggers

Bassani exhausts are all made to look as good as they sound and perform. The craftsmanship that goes into each exhaust can be seen in the welding, which is done by hand, as well as a fit and finish that ensures the exhaust installs easily and looks great on the bike.

The Road Rage system feeds into a 4-inch stainless Superbike muffler, which comes with a matching, removable billet end cap that is TIG welded. The Superbike muffler’s name comes from its origins in racing. Back in the 1970s, Darryl Bassani began crafting mufflers for the latest wave of 4-stroke race bikes, and the extensive knowledge learned from the racetrack was then used to create Bassani’s iconic Superbike muffler.

Getting power gains and great sound from an exhaust is easy when you don’t have to follow the rules. However, in order to make an exhaust system that is 49-state compliant, following the rules is exactly what you have to do.

The team at Bassani Xhaust has a Road Rage 2-into-1 system *(EMIS Code 2) with a Superbike muffler for Harley-Davidson Milwaukee-Eight Baggers, and the whole setup is 49-state compliant. At the same time, riders get the looks, sound and power gains they have come to expect from a Bassani system.

The Road Rage 2-into-1 exhaust is a midlength system that looks and sounds great on an M8 Bagger. The equal-length head pipes are stepped, going from 1¾ inches up to 17/8 inches for maximum performance gains. The high-flow catalytic converter baffle is what makes this system compliant in 49 states, so it is easier than ever for riders to upgrade their ride with a Bassani system. It delivers on the power, sound and aesthetics, all while staying compliant. There is also a Race Version *(EMIS Code 3) of the exhaust, which has a removable baffle.

Other notable features of the Road Rage 2into1 system include O2 ports with an adapter and plugs plus stainless heat shields over the header pipes to provide a barrier.

In addition to the quality craftsmanship that goes into every Bassani exhaust, the raw materials are also extremely high quality. Bassani Xhaust sources its steel from American mills, choosing steel that has improved heat cycles as well as increased heat protection. After getting the materials, the exhausts are all created in-house at the Bassani headquarters in California. From source material to final product, Bassani exhausts are made in the USA. ■

Choosing and programming animations is made easy for customers with the app, meaning they can swiftly switch things when they want something a bit different for the next night cruise.

Outside of its unique Lightstrike feature, the Armor taillight brings with it a host of features to make it an all-around improvement over stock rear taillights. Handlebars were one of THRASHIN’s original products when the company opened shop back in 2014, and that’s because few items are as important for rider comfort – and as visible to the rider when they’re in the saddle – as the handlebar.

THRASHIN’s 1-inch bars are a popular choice for riders looking to alter the grip position to suit their height and preference. When paired with a set of THRASHIN’s risers, riders have a wide range of options to choose from so they can find the perfect fit.

Historically, THRASHIN has offered its Low Bend, Mid Bend and High Bend bars in glossy triple-plated chrome or a lustrous black powder coat. New for this year, THRASHIN is launching the Mid Bend bars and High Bend bars in stainless steel. The corrosion-resistant metal is brushed to a subtle sheen that presents a unique style, so it’s sure to stand out in the crowd.

Stainless steel is a common material for exhaust systems due to its excellent durability and corrosion resistance. Stainless steel isn’t always used for handlebars because the material is slightly more expensive than the mild steel that’s typically used for the application, but THRASHIN

THRASHIN Supply’s bar risers are machined from super strong domestic 6061 aluminum, and are available in chrome or black anodized. They come complete with high-quality ARP hardware. Adding to the style factor, the company’s risers and top clamps feature relief-cut logos and detailing, including “Made in America” proudly etched on the inside of the riser masts.

has managed to bring these products to market at a good pricepoint. The bars will fit your customers’ Dyna, Softail, Sportster and Touring models. THRASHIN also has applications for the 2023-2024 FLTRXSE, or 2024 FLTRX and FLTRXSTSE.

In the Mid Bend layout, riders get 4 inches of rise and a 25-degree backsweep, while the High Bend Bar rises 5½ inches and has 20-degrees of backsweep. These dimensions were chosen by the THRASHIN crew based on experience and tens of thousands of riding miles, and the layouts are proven winners.

All THRASHIN’s 1-inch stainless bars are drilled and slotted for internal wiring, with generous cutouts that allow your techs or customers to fish the connector plugs and wires through. With so many Harleys running fly-by-wire throttles, THRASHIN’ has notched the right bar with the appropriate slots. A TBW Handlebar Plus is available for those running a cable throttle.

To make sure the bars stay put, there’s deep knurling in the clamping areas. The finishing touch is a laser-etched THRASHIN logo and American flag. After all, these and all THRASHIN’s components are proudly made in America.

Your customers can complete their cockpit overhaul and really dial in their bike’s fit by matching one of these new handlebars with a set of THRASHIN’s billet-aluminum bar risers. Available in 6-inch and 8-inch straight options and 6½-inch and 9½-inch pullback designs, THRASHIN’s bar risers work with any standard 1-inch handlebar and fit all models with a 3½-inch center-on-center bolt spacing. That includes the majority of Harley models dating back to the late 1980s.

These top clamps are angled at 35 degrees for both straight and pulled back risers. This gives the parts a streamlined look, as well as a more relaxed feel. Once your customers have selected the height, style and finish that appeals to them, they can further refine things with a set of riser extensions, which are offered in ½-inch and 1-inch thicknesses and let customers fine-tune the height of any of the riser kits. With the right set of risers and a pair of the new stainless handlebars, your customers will love the way their bike looks and feels. ■

Built for Power Smooth and Powerful Clutch Products

Some riders give little thought to their motorcycle’s clutches – until those mysterious mechanical gadgets, tucked out of sight and out of mind behind rather large primary covers, stop clutching. The result? Power to the rear wheel becomes static, and forward progress ceases.

Generally speaking, a Harley-Davidson’s clutch goes static because its pressure plate, discs, and springs are overcome by the engine’s power. That’s especially true with modified Milwaukee-Eight engines that, depending on state of tune, can develop more than100 horsepower to the rear wheel.

There’s a fix for those worn out clutches. Barnett Tool & Engineering, famous for offering replacement clutches for Harleys and other brands of motorcycles, has upgraded its clutch kit for 2017-2024 Harley-Davidson FL Touring models

and 2018-2024 Softails. The upgrades feature segmented Kevlar friction plates that are designed for increased oil flow to provide longer clutch life and smoother clutch operation. Barnett’s clutch kit also includes a set of tempered steel drive plates and three heavy-duty clutch springs.

In addition, Barnett offers Lock-Up Pressure Plate clutch kits for M-8 engines. The Lock-Up Pressure Plate is a bolt-on modification, and comes with weighted arms to maintain progressive clutch pressure as engine rpm increases.

The one-piece, no-flex billet aluminum pressure plate’s surface is hard anodized for optimal durability. Barnett also offers multiple spring sets for additional clutchpressure tuning, and the entire assembly easily fits behind the M-8 engine’s stock primary cover. Kits include applications for M-8 models with either hydraulic or cable clutch configurations.

Barnett’s Lock-Up Pressure Plate clutch kits for Milwaukee-Eight engines are a bolton modification, and come with weighted arms to maintain progressive clutch pressure as engine rpm increases.

As a reminder to Drag Specialties dealers, this pressure plate upgrade works well with stock clutches. For maximum performance Barnett suggests installing it with their maximum replacement clutch, or engine builders can insert a Barnett Extra Plate to a stock clutch assembly for added strength.

Like all Barnett products, the upgraded clutch kits are made in the USA, just as the familyowned company has been doing since it was founded in 1948 by Charlie Barnett. All Clutch Kits are pre-assembled at Barnett’s facility in Southern California, but only after each clutch stack has been pre-measured for proper stack height prior to packaging. This quality control system means reliable fit, finish, and performance right out of the box.

To learn more about Barnett’s upgraded clutch kits, dealers are encouraged to visit Barnett’s booth at the Milwaukee NVP to inspect the M8 Lock-up Pressure Plate up close. ■

Defining Adventure

Tires for the Pan America

BATTLAX ADVENTURE TRAIL AT41 (80/20 ADV TIRE)

The Harley-Davidson Pan America is a versatile motorcycle suitable for a wide range of riding conditions. To fully unlock its potential, choosing the right tire for the specific type of riding is crucial. For off-road Adventure enthusiasts, a block tread design that also handles well on pavement is the best choice. Riders seeking a tire that performs well on both tarmac and trails should opt for one that combines touring performance with light off-road capability. For riders who primarily ride on paved roads, a street-oriented tire is ideal. No matter what kind of adventure tire your customer needs, Bridgestone’s BATTLAX Adventure tire lineup has the perfect option.

BATTLAX ADVENTURECROSS AX41 (40/60 ADV TIRE)

For the off-road Adventure enthusiast, the BATTLAX ADVENTURECROSS AX41 is the best choice in the lineup. With its 40 percent on-road, 60 percent off-road design, this tire will get riders to their destination, no matter what the route looks like.

In designing the BATTLAX ADVENTURECROSS AX41, Bridgestone leveraged its expertise in both off-road and street tires to create a tread pattern and compound optimized for off-road traction with minimal on-road compromise. The high cross-sectional area of the tread is ideal for off-road adventure riding. For paved roads, Bridgestone’s Even-Wear™ Design on the tread blocks reduces the irregular wear that often plagues front knobby tires, ensuring a smooth ride. This means that street riding won’t excessively wear down the tread blocks, maintaining consistent performance across all surfaces.

For riders who primarily stay on-road, but still seek some off-road adventure on their Pan America, the BATTLAX ADVENTURE TRAIL AT41 is an excellent choice. Designed for 80 percent on-road and 20 percent off-road use, it is designed for great touring performance and wet traction on paved roads, while also handling light off-road riding with ease.

The BATTLAX ADVENTURE TRAIL AT41 is packed with technology, including Bridgestone’s MS Belt™ technology, which pairs with the block pattern to provide stability on everything from street to fire roads and light trails. The rear tire features Bridgestone’s 3LC™ + Cap & Base technology, improving traction in both wet and dry conditions.

Altogether, Pan America riders can be confident that the BATTLAX ADVENTURE TRAIL AT41 will perform on paved roads and light off-road surfaces. Its reliable performance in all types of weather conditions makes this a great allaround tire choice.

BATTLAX ADVENTURE A41 (90/10 ADV TIRE)

For Pan America riders who remain almost exclusively on paved roads, the Bridgestone BATTLAX ADVENTURE A41 tire is the ideal option. This tire features the highest level of wet performance on paved roads, thanks to its tread design and silica-rich 3LC Dual Compound construction. The dual-compound design adds to the longevity of the tire. Additionally, since the BATTLAX ADVENTURE A41 is designed as a 90 percent on-road, 10 percent off-road tire option, getting onto the occasional dirt road is no problem. ■

Lighting the Way

New LED Options for Headlights and Visibility

Dealers who are heading to NVP Milwaukee will want to plan for plenty of time at the Custom Dynamics booth. The company will be showing off new fitments for the Shark Demon 2 headlight, and a roundup of new components for the Harley-Davidson Low Rider ST.

The Shark Demon made a splash at NVP Louisville in January. Since then, Custom Dynamics has continued to refine the radical new LED light. The new Shark Demon 2 has an improved design based on customer needs, including an updated bracket design to minimize installation time. To make it even sweeter, there are now new fitments. In addition to a Road Glide fitment, there is also a Shark Demon for Low Rider ST models, a Shark Demon Universal Headlight, and more on the way.

The Shark Demon features high-quality LED lighting that is super bright and super stylized. The low beam consists of six projection LEDs and eight direct-reflective LEDs. An additional eight direct-reflective LEDs illuminate for the high beam. The Shark Demon is designed for maximum beam pattern width, giving riders a view of the road “from ditch to ditch,” as Custom Dynamics puts it.

For bikes that have an aftermarket audio system, Custom Dynamics offers a Shark Demon Spacer Kit that allows the headlight to be mounted alongside the amp without the need to modify the light. There is also a yellow light bar for Road Glides plus Shark Demon turn signals to complete the front-end look.

The Low Rider ST continues to be a popular model, which means parts made for it are hot sellers, too. Custom Dynamics has a range of new products to fit the Low Rider ST so dealers can give their customers even more options for customizing their ride.

In addition to the new Shark Demon 2 headlight and Shark Demon turn signals that fit Low Rider ST models, there are also saddlebag lights, fairing vent lights and a decorative center fairing insert.

The sleek saddlebag lights are pre-taped for easy installation, and they add a single row of illumination that wraps around the rear facing edge of the saddlebag. Both red and smoke lenses are available.

Up front, the fairing vent and center fairing insert adds a pop of LED illumination. These lights are a way to brighten up the recessed areas of the Low Rider ST, and the fairing vent lights provide both bright white running lights as well as full-contrast amber turn signals.

Even Low Rider ST windshields can get an updated look with the Windshield Trim, which is available in a black or dark bronze housing. ■

What’s in the Box? Complete Oil-Change Kits

When a V-Twin calls for different lubes for the engine, primary and transmission, getting set up for a fluid change can be a hassle. Maxima has found a way to take the guesswork out of oil changes, and in fact make them as easy as possible. With Maxima’s V-Twin Oil Change Kits you get the proper type and amount of oil, along with a premium replacement oil filter, making regular service faster for your techs and more convenient for your DIY customers. Forget looking up the oil weight and quantity, the part number for the oil filter and drain-plug gasket, and walking around to pull each part. Maxima’s V-Twin Oil Change Kits package everything that’s needed for an oil change into one box, and they come in two forms – the Quick Change and the Full Change – with applications dating back to the early 1980s.

When the odometer says it’s time for the transmission and primary oils to be changed, there’s the Full Change Kit. This package not only includes engine oil and an oil filter, but Maxima’s V-Twin Primary oil and V-Twin Transmission gear oil as required. With the Full Change Kit, the engine gets fresh fluid all around.

Whichever kit your customers go with, they can feel good knowing that Maxima has developed oils that exceed OEM specifications and are specially engineered for V-Twin engines. That means Maxima’s American-made V-Twin oils are extremely shear-stable, and cling to metal surfaces for superior protection under the extreme heat and loads that hard-working engines experience. These oils are also highly oxidatively stable to attain the extended change intervals required for many Harley engines.

Maxima makes oil changes easy by including everything needed to get the job done, all in one box and under one part number.

With the Quick Change kit, riders get the appropriate amount of Maxima’s V-Twin Full Syn 20W-50 or V-Twin Mineral 20W-50 (depending on OEM recommendation), plus a new drain-plug O-ring and a ProFilter premium spin-on filter in a choice of black or chrome. As an added convenience, ProFilter filters have a nut welded to the end for easy removal. The Quick Change Kit is great for regular maintenance and ensures the crankshaft, piston, cylinders and valvetrain stay happy and healthy.

When it comes to fluid changes, it simply doesn’t get any easier than a Maxima V-Twin Oil Change Kit. Of course, Maxima’s V-Twin Full Syn 20W-50, transmission oil, primary lube, and ProFilters are available on their own as needed, but getting them packaged together – with the exact parts and quantities needed for a given model – is undeniably convenient. ■

» Talk with your Drag rep for the full application list for these oil-change packages, and learn more in the Tire & Service catalog, and at www.dragspecialties.com.

Drag Specialties Dealer: Great Growth

LIFESTYLE CYCLES: WHERE ROAD TRIPS BEGIN

Open the front door at Lifestyle Cycles in Anaheim, California, and you’re greeted by a miniature twolane blacktop road that’s painted on the floor. The narrow highway and its yellow center passing lines set the mood for the road trip that you’re about to take through a unique independent motorcycle dealership.

That simulated highway serves as a roadmap to guide customers through the Drag Specialties dealer’s motorcycle gear and apparel displays before leading them deeper into the building. The next point of interest is Lifestyle Cycles’ jam-packed parts and accessories department, which leads customers into the main showroom containing a fleet of pre-owned late-model Harley-Davidsons.

Here’s the kicker, though – all of those used motorcycles mysteriously look even fresher and more immaculate than when they first rolled off Harley’s assembly line and into the light of day! To conclude the road trip, an optional painted road leads customer back to the service shop manned by a crew of 10 experienced service technicians.

Welcome to Lifestyle Cycles, an indie dealer that’s approaching its 25th anniversary in Southern California. In fact, it’s a

So Cal business that actually has its roots planted deep in Orange County where owner Mark “Junior” Skolnick began refurbishing used mini-bikes that he sold for profit.

He was 12 years old when he started out, and at some point during that magical first year, Junior, as he’s still known, enlisted the help of some friends to join his enterprise, paying them a few bucks here, a few bucks there for their services rendered. Over time one bike led to another, and then to another, and another until Junior had a small squadron of reconditioned minibikes (and eventually motorcycles, including Harleys) parked in the family garage, waiting for repair or for purchase. “I soon realized that I was in the motorcycle business,” Junior recalls.

However, before his burgeoning motorcycle business took full flight into what would become Lifestyle Cycles, Junior’s entrepreneurial ways as a young man led to the formation of a business centered around selling specialty tools. He eventually sold that venture, paving the way for the opening and growth of Lifestyle Cycles. The shop settled into its first location in Anaheim, California in the early 2000s before expanding next door to its current 1510 N. State College Boulevard address where it remains today.

GATHERING SPACE

The parking lot separating Lifestyle Cycles’ front entrance from State College Boulevard is spacious enough to easily contain customer cars, trucks and motorcycles during any given workday – except Saturday. That’s when the business is overrun by Harley enthusiasts who come to dine on free food, in this case complimentary grilled hamburgers and hot dogs served with free ice-cold soft drinks. Many of the diners contribute more than spare change to the donation jar that supports military veterans, needy children, and a special biker fund in memory of Frankie Dean Rosales (FDRfoundation.com).

The feeding frenzy lasts from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and throughout the day the store also becomes a social gathering where customers shop for Harley-related items and such. They also simply mingle with other visitors who might spend the better part of the afternoon gabbing with friends and other Harley riders who show up to mix business with pleasure.

Many of those riders are members of the shop’s riding group fittingly known as Lifestyle Cycles’ Riding Group. It’s

a free-to-join organization that gathers every weekend for a brief or extended ride on their Harleys to surrounding Southern California destinations. At last count the Riding Group included about 4,500 members, and they keep in touch through their dedicated social media site.

REACHING OUT

Now might be as good a time as any to flash a few numbers across this page to highlight Lifestyle Cycles’ impact to the social media world. According to the dealership’s website, the shop scored high ranks across such platforms as Facebook, Google and Yelp. It has 13,900 people who follow Lifestyle Cycles on Instagram, and 7,500 on Facebook. The store also has a presence on TikTok and YouTube. Maybe not what Taylor Swift achieves on social media, but you get the picture, and Junior and his crew continue working to make the Lifestyle Cycles online presence grow.

“I want the smell of BBQ hamburgers to extend across the internet,” Junior will tell you, adding that he wants to extend his local popularity by reaching customers in Big Town, Small Town and Any Town, USA. In short, he wants the Lifestyle Cycles name and logo to embed itself into Harley enthusiasts’ minds across the country, not just in Southern California. Junior describes it as extending the shop’s, “geographic fence, from border to border.”

To meet this goal, Lifestyle Cycle has made a determined effort through production of how-to videos, productreferencing videos, and more. It does so through its own production studio and growing online department. Customers in the story might spot a big-screen TV connected to various computers, scanners or camera equipment, all of which is operated by employees focused on producing footage for future showing. That growing team of employees is hard at work creating or producing promotional material for visual consumption by shop customers.

That parking lot in front of Drag Specialties dealer Lifestyle Cycles sure does get a lot of use. Between the store's regular customers and the Lifestyle Cycles Riding Group's weekend get-togethers, a huge number of Southern California riders call this spot home.
Lifestyle Cycles maintains a big stock of preowned Harley-Davidson models in its Anaheim, California showroom — all looking as fresh as they did when they rolled off Harley's assembly line.
Every shop needs a shop dog. Lifestyle has two, and this one is Fred.
Lifestyle's owner Mark "Junior" Skolnick (center with mic) addresses the crowd at one of the store's many gatherings.
Longtime Lifestyle service tech Roger Medina works on a customer’s bike in the store’s spacious service area.

The store is also steadily expanding its E-commerce capabilities (https://shop.lifestylecycles.com), an addition to its business model that they promote at various national and regional events, as well as through SMS texting and directto-consumer e-mail. That in-house video production also helps feed content for Lifestyle’s online retailing efforts.

“I want that rider in Virginia to immediately think about our shop when he begins to search for related products or service for his Harley,” Junior says. In fact, Lifestyle already has a worldwide motorcycle delivery service for marketing those pristine pre-owned Harleys that sit so regally on the showroom floor, the final destination being anyplace on the globe. The efforts are paying off, too, and recently one rider from the East Coast who became familiar with Lifestyle over the internet, rode to Southern California for more than just the ride; he wanted to visit the shop in Anaheim!

No doubt, extending the dealership’s reach requires a vision that includes hiring the right people, too. “I’m always looking and hunting for, and finding, great people to work here,” Junior says.

That search has enabled Lifestyle Cycles to dig deep for talent, its employees learning more and more about the products that Drag Specialties offers dealers. Case in point; when the Drag Specialties Dealer Training Tour recently set up shop in Anaheim, Junior asked his Drag Specialties Rep, John Potts, to invite the crew from Legend Suspension for a product seminar with the shop’s employees. Within a few weeks, Juniors says that Lifestyle’s sale of Legend suspension components increased by 400 percent!

“There’s no better way to learn about a product than to speak with the people who make and sell them,” Junior says. He adds that it’s up to his employees to transition that newfound knowledge into profitable sales figures. “I’ve got a really good group of people working for me. Each person lends his or her talent to make this place even more successful. It’s like cooking; you need more than a good chef. You need a good recipe, and we have that here.” ■

It’s not all work and no play at Lifestyle Cycles. Junior and his crew enjoy giving as much as, if not more than, receiving. Last December 5, 2023, is an example when Lifestyle Cycle completed its special Christmas celebration with the students from nearby Orange Grove Elementary School in Anaheim.

Here’s the lowdown: The public school serves a local community that’s heavily populated with underprivileged families, many of whom are not in a position to celebrate Christmas in the traditional manner. So, the crew at Lifestyle Cycles responded, delivering hundreds of presents to Orange Grove’s 550 students.

The wish list included 325 bicycles that were assembled the week before by 40 volunteers affiliated one way or another with Lifestyle Cycles. Additional presents were arranged for any student who, for one reason or another, couldn’t ride a bike.

The gift list was long, from dolls to baseball mitts to small wagons to anything in between, and extra care was given to offer unique gifts for special-need students. Nobody, absolutely nobody, was overlooked, and the Harley owners made it a point to ride their bikes in parade formation to highlight the Christmas celebration.

Truly a heartwarming day, one as rewarding for the many volunteers that Junior and Lifestyle Cycles gathered as for the children and school staff itself. Perhaps the best present, though, was the `“thank you” video presented to the bikers by the student body after the holiday.

No doubt, a lot of effort went into making Christmas 2023 a Merry Christmas for the Orange Grove student body. And so, for 2024 even more effort has been put into this year’s gift presentation, scheduled for December 14. Contributions are always welcomed from other shops and vendors wishing to participate!

» It’s been that way for Lifestyle Cycles for nearly 25 years, and as Junior expands his business’ reach to more and more customers you can expect the shop’s reputation to continue to grow.

Going to Great Lengths Extended Springer Forks

Some things never go out of style, and in the world of V-Twins, springer forks are one of those things. There’s just something about that classic springer look, which has been around for nearly a century now. Sure, there are front suspension options that are more advanced, but you can’t beat the old-school vibe of springer forks. Besides, this simple approach to front forks still works well, and it adds style that a more modern design just can’t.

Drag Specialties already has custom springer forks in various lengths, and the newest addition is the longest yet. The new +6 custom springer forks are a great way to give a bike a dramatic new look on the front end, whether it’s an older bike getting a new (but still retro) look or a full custom build.

In addition to this new length, Drag Specialties also offers the custom springer forks in the standard length of 31 inches from the top bearing to the axle. There are also lengths in -2, +2 and +4. In addition to the length options, riders can also choose the chrome or black finish to best suit the look of their motorcycle.

The rear fork legs can accommodate right-side or leftside brakes. They arrive fully assembled with an in-line top bracket, ready to be paired with the wheel, brakes, clamps and other components for a retro-looking front end. There are plenty of Drag Specialties options for all of those other parts, as well, making it easy to build an entirely new front end without having to search through lots of different brands and catalogs.

Drag Specialties has other front suspension components available, too, like OEM-style fork tubes. These chrome forks are incredibly durable, and they have excellent seal wear to ensure smooth operation and a long time between maintenance. These fork tubes accept all OEM components, and they even come in OEM sizing. That means they can be a simple swap when new fork tubes are needed, but there are also various other lengths to choose from. Whether a rider wants a slight fork height adjustment or something more dramatic, there’s a Drag Specialties fork tube for it. ■

Smart Stopping

ABS Sensors and Other Braking Components

Modern motorcycle brakes are much better than they used to be, but there are a lot of working parts that need to be wellmaintained and, sometimes, replaced.

Drag Specialties makes it easy with its range of braking components, from the parts that do the hard work, like rotors, to the small but necessary parts that keep a bike stopping properly.

Brake systems can be completely overhauled or even built from scratch with Drag Specialties components, making these parts a great choice for everything from freshening up a bike with a lot of wear and tear on it to building a custom from the ground up.

Most recently, Drag Specialties has added ABS brake sensors to its lineup of braking components. These sensors are high-quality replacements, and they are built to the same standards as the OEM sensors. That means customers can get a quality replacement part that is more accessible and affordable than an OEM replace ment. And, with a Drag Specialties ABS brake sensor, keeping a bike’s braking system running smoothly is not just affordable but also easy. These sensors are a direct bolt-on replacement.

Drag Specialties is offering the ABS brake sensors for front and rear applications across a wide range of Harley-Davidson models. In ad dition to the most recent models, there are also replacement sensors for older bikes, like 2008-2013 Touring models. These sensors are a great way to keep older bikes stopping with precision.

As riders put wear and tear on their bikes – and their brakes – it is necessary to keep everything working well. That means master cylinder rebuilds are going to be on the to-do list for riders who are freshening up a bike’s braking system.

Drag Specialties front and rear master cylinder rebuild kits include every necessary component for the rebuild, including springs, clips, washers and more. Like the ABS brake sensors, these master cylinder rebuild kits are also available for a lot of older and newer Harley models, so finding the right fitment is easy. As one would expect

from any Drag Specialties product, these kits meet or exceed the OEM specs, so the quality is something that dealers and riders alike can rely on.

For those times when a simple rebuild won’t do, Drag Specialties also has complete master cylinders available to make replacing the whole setup a cinch. ■

Levers for Style, Comfort

Soption comes in chrome or a gloss black. For those levers, the slots are CNC-machined for a precise cut.

These wide blade lever sets join other Drag Specialties levers that make a real style statement. Custom lever sets, available for both newer bikes as well as older Evo models, feature a wide lever that is tapered for a sleek, clean finish. These die-cast levers are shorter than standard levers for a real custom look.

wapping stock levers for a set of aftermarket ones can do a lot for both a motorcycle and the rider. For one thing, a simple lever swap can take the levers from functional to fashionable. Plus, riders can find the most comfortable style for their hands, so even long rides or a long time sitting in traffic is easy on the fingers.

Drag Specialties has a lineup of lever options for both new and older bikes. The latest among them are wide blade lever sets for 2021-23 Harley-Davidson FLs. Available in both standard and slotted options, this wide-blade style resembles the late-style design, making the levers a distinctive part of the bike’s look.

The blades are made from quality aluminum, which is strong but still lightweight. The standard wide blade lever sets come in chrome or matte black, while the slotted

Riders looking to amp up the style of their levers can opt for the skull lever set. These lightweight aluminum levers are chrome and feature a skull on the ends for a look that can’t be missed.

For riders who want their hands to feel good on the controls, the Drag Specialties comfort grip levers will be their ideal choice. The levers have an offset design, making them an ergonomic choice that eases lever operation. These comfortable levers are available for a lot of Harley models. And, of course, stock levers simply need to be replaced from time to time. When that happens, Drag Specialties clutch and brake levers are an easy way to replace them. They are OEM-style levers without the OEM cost, and their polished finish looks sleek and holds up beautifully. Since these levers are sold each rather than as a pair, they are a great way to replace broken or dinged-up levers. Even vintage bikes have lever options thanks to Drag Specialties. There are standard clutch and brake levers for Harley models from 1965-81 as well as hydraulic levers for 1972-81 FX and XL models. ■

Locked In A Lightweight Performance Seat

When we talk about a V-Twin seat, we typically focus on aspects like comfort, craftsmanship and styling. The new Slyfox seat has all those things, but it also has something else going for it – the seat is remarkably lightweight. Really, that should be no surprise for a Slyfox product. With the company’s performance focus, saving weight is always a goal.

The seat’s look and materials also reflect that performance aspect. The driver area has slimmed-down seat foam, creating a bucket seat backed by a 6-inch-tall lumbar support area. Combined with the lumbar area’s gripper material, this Slyfox seat keeps the rider locked into place. That means customers can push their Harley-Davidson to its limits – whether that’s on one wheel or two – while staying firmly in the saddle.

Anyone who wants to see just how capable the new Slyfox seat is can check out the competitors who are using it on their bikes for the new Drifter Cross series. With the clock ticking as each rider navigates a stunt course, having a seat that keeps the rider firmly planted is vital to staying in control – and to landing a spot on the podium in this AMA-sanctioned series.

The side panels of the Slyfox seat have a carbon fiber look, adding to the performance styling. The material makes the seat a great fit with the carbon fiber bodywork available from Slyfox, which includes fenders, side covers and more.

While there are plenty of performance aspects to the Slyfox seat, comfort and quality are important, too. The seat features a contoured design that is narrow up front for better leg clearance, and the molded urethane foam is flexible, giving the rider a similar feeling to a memoryfoam mattress. The Slyfox seat is a performance-oriented design, but riders can still put on the miles in comfort. The seating area is covered with automotive-grade vinyl, and UV protection keeps things looking good for a long time. Underneath, the seat sits on a 3/16-inch ABS thermoformed seat base that is fully carpeted on the bottom to protect the bike’s paint. All Slyfox seats are proudly made in the USA.

The new Slyfox seat division currently has six different fitments available for its seat. The company will be set up at the Milwaukee NVP, where dealers can see bikes with the Slyfox seats on them. Dealers will be able to see how good these seats look on the bike and get an idea of how truly lightweight they are. ■

EZ Install Handlebars

Solid Engineering for a Quick Set-Up

Swapping out handlebars – a few simple words that can snowball into a far more complicated process than expected. If you’re tired of monkeying around with handlebar installations that take up valuable installation time, Fat Baggers Inc. has a solution with its EZ Install Handlebars.

Fat Baggers Inc. has designed this line with the kind of next generation processes and forward thinking that eliminates many of the installation issues associated with handlebars swaps. Now the company has added a number of 1¼-inch EZ Install bars to its lineup. The bars come in flat top, pointed top, and round top styles.

One feature you might notice first is the two-piece design. All FBI bars are manufactured with a two-piece center that’s machined from billet stock. It bolts together using an interlocking, precision-machined joint and is then encapsulated inside your bike’s factory clamp. This center piece is also embellished with larger, straight knurled contact surfaces, intended to keep the handlebars from

slipping inside the clamp. It’s simply stronger than stock in every way.

Another benefit of this two-piece design is ease of manufacturing, especially in the polishing process, resulting in a pristine overall finish. As an added bonus, the shorter pieces go into a much smaller box, decreasing shipping cost and increasing efficiency.

Regarding installation, it’s right there in the product name – EZ! Your service department will appreciate the large internal radius of the bars that allows for easy wire pulling and smoother threading. The “squared” lower bends have additional slots to make wire routing even more seamless.

Fat Baggers Inc.’s pointed top design is unique, and features a non-welded “joint” or corner at the top, crafted by using billet stock that is CNC-machined inside and out. The result is a wide-open internal cavity that makes pulling through wires a smooth, snag free and painless operation – a description that applies to all three version of EZ Install bars.

Designed and manufactured in the USA, the patented line includes 72 part numbers, ranging in heights from 10 inches to 16 inches to work on a large variety of HarleyDavidson fitments covering nearly all Harley models.

Fat Baggers Inc. also offers its Plug & Play EZ Install Handlebars, which are prewired to fit late model Harley Baggers. There are also EZ Install kits that include everything needed for a handlebar install. ■

Premium Sealing

Do It Once, Do It Right

As the saying goes, if something is worth doing, then it’s worth doing right. So if an engine is worth rebuilding, it’s worth using Cometic components during re-assembly. Since 1989, Cometic Gasket has pursued better sealing technologies for engines, and it has gaskets, seals and O-rings for all popular Harley-Davidson models, for everything from the rocker boxes on down to the drain plugs.

A new addition to Cometic’s lineup is the MLX (MultiLayer Xtreme) head gaskets for Milwaukee-Eights. These gaskets are great for engines creating high cylinder pressure, such as when using high-compression pistons, a Trask turbo or nitrous.

The MLX features an extra “stopper” fold-over layer that sits just outside the bore diameter, creating a torque-limiting surface that preserves the combustion seal under extreme pressure. The MLX design creates a barrier similar to Oringing the head or cylinder, but requires no modifications and is installed just like any other MLS head gasket. MLX head gaskets are available for a variety of bore sizes in several thicknesses, and are sold in pairs.

Cometic has effective and reliable products for every mating surface on your customer’s engine, and it’s all cutting edge.

While Harley sometimes still uses graphite head gaskets, single-lipped seals on shafts, and old-fashioned pressed-fiber or coated gaskets between cases and covers, Cometic’s products are made from the latest materials with the latest technologies.

Cometic’s MLS head gaskets are an excellent approach to sealing the combustion chamber, and use multiple layers of coated and embossed steel to provide a reliable seal. The embossed layers allow the gasket to act like a spring, so it can lift with the head without compromising its sealing capability.

For bottom-end assemblies like primary covers and derby covers, Cometic implements its excellent AFM (Aluminum Foamet Material). AFM gaskets provide improved strength and resilience thanks to a malleable aluminum core and closed-cell coating. AFM gaskets don’t need sealant, won’t push out or suck in, and can accommodate component flex as well as slightly worn or marred mating surfaces.

For O-rings and many other rubberized parts, Cometic relies on a high-tech material called Viton. Designed to meet the demands of harsh sealing environments, Viton is oil and gas resistant and can handle temperatures up to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. Cometic’s shaft seals feature a dual-lip design for trouble-free performance, and are a popular fix for the dreaded shifter-seal mess on many Harleys.

From seals to O-rings to gaskets, Cometic Gasket makes it all, and Drag Specialties stocks it. You can order individual parts, assembly kits, or complete engine-rebuild sets with everything you need for an overhaul. Drag also has gasket boards that put parts within easy reach of your mechanics, and with the part numbers printed right on the board, re-ordering is convenient. ■

Pistons for High-Compression Engines

utting a word like “super” in the name of a product is a bold claim, but KB Pistons backs up the name of its Super Duty pistons with a host of high-quality, high-durability features. These pistons are able to offer both the performance and longevity required for demanding engines.

Super Duty pistons and components are specifically designed to handle the intense operating conditions found inside Harley-Davidson engines. KB Pistons makes Super Duty piston fitments for both Milwaukee-Eight and Twin Cam engines, where the high compression requires pistons that can deliver durability and performance on a higher scale than a typical piston.

resulting in a tighter piston-to-wall clearance. The top ring groove and crown are hard anodized, which allows the ring to rotate on a hard surface. This reduces micro welding to the groove.

The Line2Line abradable skirt coating is thicker and has a higher load capacity than a standard skirt coating. This coating is designed to conform to the cylinder for a custom fit, which reduces piston rock and mechanical noise.

Other things that put the “super” in Super Duty pistons include upgraded wrist pin material and wall thickness as well as a second land accumulator groove that provides an improved seal. ■

In Good Hands Grips

Made for Comfort

Avon Grips’ Memory Foam hand grip is among the brand’s most popular models, and for good reason. Memory Foam grips have an outer layer consisting of a soft pliable foam-vinyl material that readily conforms to a rider’s hands during a ride.

Moments after grasping, each grip feels as though it was custom-formed to the rider’s hand. In addition, each grip’s soft foam construction helps dampen vibration through the handlebar to the rider’s hands, especially important during long touring trips.

In addition, each Memory Foam grip’s serrated surface texture assures a firm and steady grasp for the rider, giving complete control at all times, especially during hard acceleration and sudden braking. The soft material is chemical resistant, and does not feel sticky in hot temperatures.

Each Super Duty piston is forged from 4032 aluminum alloy, which has good ductility and a low growth rate,

Rotors and Pads for the Pan America Brake for Adventure

When a motorcycle is capable of both on-road and off-road riding, it’s important that the brakes work well in both scenarios. Galfer USA has front rotors and pads for the HarleyDavidson Pan America that provide the precision stopping and predictability riders want on the street and trail.

One of the benefits of outfitting a Pan America with Galfer Oversize WAVE front brake rotors is the weight savings, which is especially important off-road. Stock Pan America rotors weigh 3.55 lbs., while the Galfer Oversize WAVE

rotors are just 2.57 lbs. With two rotors on the front, that’s a weight savings of nearly 2 lbs.

The 13-inch rotors are full-floating, and the high-carbon 420 stainless steel is heat-treated for incredible durability. The patented WAVE design helps keep things cool and more efficient, so riders can enjoy predictable, precise braking, even in aggressive riding situations.

Pan America riders can get a style upgrade, too, with Galfer’s custom rotor program. There are nine carrier colors and 11 button colors to choose from to enhance the look of the rotor. You can get a custom rotor order form from your Drag rep, and the ordering process is easy.

Galfer HH Sintered Brake Pads for the Pan America further improve braking feel and modulation. These brake pads can withstand higher temperatures compared to standard semi-metallic pads, making them ideal for aggressive riding styles. ■

Oiling Excellence Premium

Oil Pumps for M8s and Twin Cams

Oil is literally what keeps an engine running, so doesn’t it make sense to use a quality oil pump? The factory oiling systems on HarleyDavidson Milwaukee-Eight and Twin Cam engines leave a lot to be desired, so the tuning pros at Feuling have engineered three oiling kit series upgrades to help your customers get the most out of their motors.

Feuling’s OE+ kit is a huge upgrade over the stock oiling system. Machined from 6061 aluminum, the OE+ oil pump and cam plate are more rigid and run tighter tolerances than the factory cast-aluminum assembly. With hand-lapped gerotor gears (that may be as much as 60 percent larger than stock depending on the model), the OE+ system pushes more oil through the engine at higher pressure, improving lubrication, cooling and power.

The HP+ and Race Series kits have similar features as OE+ but are made from stronger 7075 aluminum for better durability. The HP+ and Race series camplate ports are size-matched to the engine cases and the internal passageways are contoured to further improve oil flow. The HP+/Race series oil pumps also feature O-rings between each mating surface to help prevent pressure loss under heat. The Race Series kit is optimized for performance engines with massive scavenging capability to prevent the flywheels from dragging in oil at high rpm.

The OE+, HP+, and Race Series oiling systems are three refined options that are designed to improve reliability and performance. They’re all made in the USA and are in stock and ready to ship. ■

Controlled Tuning Performance Made Easy

Properly tuning a bike with performance mods can be complex – but it doesn’t have to be. Daytona Twin-Tec’s new *(EMIS Code 3) M8FI Gen 8 systems are designed to solve tuning problems on modified Milwaukee-Eight engines, from mild Stage 1 upgrades to turbo-blown beasts. There are fitments available for Harley-Davidson Milwaukee-Eight Touring (2017-2020) and Softail (2018-2020) models.

Rigged Up for Adventure

Durable Luggage for Pan Americas

Several key features of the M8FI system takes the guesswork out and put the easy in to helping a modified M8 engine run best. An important one is built-in Autotune, which simplifies tuning for customers as well as dealers. It was developed for simple use; you set targets for optimal air/fuel ratio and the bike adjusts to those targets.

Another distinctive element of the M8FI is the continuous, automatic data logging. It’s always collecting data without being turned on. And it stores data for the last 60 minutes of operation, whether on a dyno or on the road. That’s where the dealer’s service techs comes in. The provided software can read and pinpoint problem areas for precise tuning improvements, whether they occur at start up, idle or cruising. The system is fully programmable, and it supports all the modules on the motorcycle.

Kits come with a plug-and-play ECU, autotune wide band controller, wide band O2 sensors, and a USB interface. There are detailed videos online and software to download free. ■

Axle Access

A Clever, Problem-Solving Tool

When it comes time to change a HarleyDavidson’s tires and/or belts, getting to that bike’s rear axle nut can sometimes be a pain. Motion Pro has worked its magic yet again and whipped up a tool that makes accessing the nut a whole lot easier. The 36mm Axle Socket for Harleys is specifically designed to work within the confines imposed by Harley Bagger back ends, and is a must-have for any V-Twin shop.

The 36mm Axle Socket for Harleys incorporates a low-profile six-point socket and a captive swivel extension that easily navigates the tight space between the bike’s muffler and saddlebag rack, so there’s no need to loosen or remove the muffler.

To ensure no chrome or paint is scuffed during the work, Motion Pro put a protective plastic sleeve on the extension. The ½-drive tool is made from heat-treated steel and has a black-oxide coating for corrosion resistance. The tool is rated for up to 175 pound-feet of torque, which is well above the force any Harley calls for, and comes with a limited lifetime warranty.

This is yet another clever, problem-solving tool from Motion Pro. The 36mm Axle Socket for H-D saves time and hassle and makes an ordinarily simple yet frustrating task a whole lot easier. ■

Stop and Go Brake Components Ready for Adventure

Legacy motorcycling heritage combined with modern performance and new-age riding styles can create instant-classic products. Such is true with Harley-Davidson’s entry into the Adventure market with its Pan America model.

The Pan America takes riders to unseen places across the country, covering thousands of miles. With these miles comes normal breakdown of wear parts, including brakes. Thankfully, the stopping experts at EBC offer Adventure-ready rotors and brake pads designed to maximize performance and longevity.

EBC’s polished stainless steel rotors serve a wide range of Harley models and feature a contoured profile and slotted rotor to greatly improve pad break-in and reduce rotor galling. The stainless-steel center hub was chosen for its strength and hold-up against weight and vibration of heavy-duty motorcycles, like the Pan America and others.

Matching perfectly with these rotors are EBC’s Double-H sintered superbike brake pads. Not limited to superbikes, but delivering the same performance, these brake pads are

EBC’s flagship performance pad and are proven to perform well in all weather conditions, a critical characteristic for Adventure riding.

On top of wide-range performance, Double-H pads are designed for longevity with high-quality sintered manufacturing done right here in the USA. Plus, they’re on-road brake safety standard approved. ■

Pulling Smooth Premium Clutch Cables

Clutch pull is one of the first things a rider feels when getting on a bike, and it can make or break the riding experience. Magnum Shielding knows what riders want at their lever and its high efficiency clutch cables play a critical role in achieving that.

Magnum’s clutch cables are engineered to meet or exceed OE specifications for fitment, construction and endurance requirements. With a focus on craftsmanship, Magnum’s clutch cables ensure long lasting smooth operation while meeting the demands of riders of all levels.

Different styles of clutch cables are offered to serve different applications, consisting of quick connect upper clutch cables, one-piece, and two-piece cables. Quick connect upper cables are an economical solution to replace late-model Softail and Touring models’ upper cable.

They feature a robust threaded adjuster and connect easily with a patent-pending design.

With the adjuster at the bottom, one-piece cables are available in the OldBook for 1986 models and earlier, while two-piece cables feature fully braided upper and lower sections connected with a chrome adjuster. Available in all of Magnum’s matching Signature braids, these options open the door for compatibility with a wide range of customers.

All of Magnum Shielding’s cables boast durable construction with quality materials, including high efficiency inner liners, anti-friction adjusters, nylon jackets with slip-ease additives, polished fittings, and waterproof adjuster seals.

Most Harley models plus many Indian and Victory bikes are covered with stock and extended lengths with the choice of four proprietary braids, all matching across other Magnum control cables and lines. ■

Smart Power

USB Chargers That are

OptiMate offers a range of fully sealed USB chargers that can be permanently installed on a powersports vehicle and wired directly to the battery. The built-in voltage sensing electronics turns off USB charging if it senses the vehicle’s engine has been turned off, protecting the vehicle’s battery from further discharge. When the engine fires up, the USB charging starts up again.

How it works: When the vehicle’s battery voltage drops below 13.3V a count-down timer is triggered, allowing USB charging for one hour and then it goes to stand-by. This is ideal if a rider is parked and still want their USB device to receive charge.

For lithium motorcycle batteries 13.3V equals 90 percent state of charge. After the OptiMate USB goes to stand-by mode after one hour, even the smallest battery (4Ah) will still hold more than 60 percent charge.

If the battery voltage drops quickly below 12.4V (50 percent SOC for an AGM battery), it will go to stand-by immediately.

OptiMate

The OptiMate USB O-118 with USB-C port and the O108KIT O-108 with USB-A port, both deliver a charge of 3300mA, and connect to the battery with a fused battery harness with ¼-inch (M6) ringlets.

Other OptiMate USB-A chargers with smart standby mode include the fully sealed O-108 and the plug-n-play O-100 that delivers 2400mA. Both connect to the battery through the SAE connector of a fitted battery harness. ■

Fly by Wire Throttle Sensors

and More

When it comes time for your customers to customize their bike controls or change out handlebars and mounts, check out NAMZ’s 15-inch handlebar switch and throttle-by-wire harness extension kit.

NAMZ designed its twist grip sensors to be a plug-and-play replacement for applicable Harley-Davidson models, and each one is hardwired to match the OEM CVO functions.

NAMZ Custom Cycle Products is proudly celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2024, marketing a quarter century of innovation, passion and growth.

Founder Jeff Zielinski is dedicated to his passion for custom motorcycles and making his ideas a reality, key characteristics that are evident in NAMZ’s flow of products. A great example are NAMZ’s marine-grade, key-start ignition switches. With a custom bike building background, Zielinski understands that custom projects are different from one customer to the next. Whether it’s a mild cruiser or a wild head-turner, every motorcycle and powersports project with an engine has something in common – it needs an ignition to start and run.

NAMZ’s marine-grade ignition switches are made in the USA and are designed to be a versatile solution with familiar functionality. Each unit has an ignition “on” position plus a recoil key start, so it functions just

as your customers expect it to. They are also fitted with a momentary switch when the key is pushed in, perfect for high beams or horns. Brass screws are included, and a polished, stainless-steel knurled jam nut finishes each switch’s classic styling.

Not every Harley-Davidson customer will need a new ignition switch, but there’s a chance that riders with throttle-by-wire models will need a replacement twist grip sensor. Throttle-by-wire is a nice, clean upgrade over traditional cable systems, but since it relies on electronics, there’s no go if a sensor fails.

NAMZ designed its twist grip sensors to be a plug-andplay replacement for applicable Harley models, and each one is hardwired to mimic OEM CVO versions. With three different sensor options fitting models as old as 2008, and as new as 2024, NAMZ took the guess work out of getting back to OEM fit and function. They include OEM style connectors and heated grip connections.

Even if your customers’ sensors are all in working order, it’s not uncommon to run into wire length issues when customizing bike controls or changing bars and mounts. That’s exactly why NAMZ offers its 15-inch handlebar switch and throttle-by-wire harness extension kit. This harness extension fits 2021 to current Pan America, 2023 CVO Street Glide and Road Glide, as well as 2024 Street Glide and Road Glide Harley models.

These harnesses extend each models’ existing handlebar switches and twist grip sensors. Each one is professionally assembled and is ready for your customers’ new custom bike projects. ■
