DANCING FOR
MY TRIBE
POTAWATOMI TRADITION IN MODERN TIMES
y tribe, the Citizen M Potawatomi Nation, has a reunion each summer near Shawnee. I am impressed how these wholly modern-day people are preserving the traditional dress of their ancestors. I believe this must be documented and preserved for future generations, just as we are able to look back at the people who lived before us. In addition to making the portrait, I ask for a story about their regalia. Each person’s regalia is a reflection of a meaningful part of their life. -Sharon Hoogstraten
