With nearly 50% of marriages ending in divorce, my featured leader definitely has her work cut out for her.
Money as a topic often causes ripples and arguments so the idea of Financial Joy may be new to many.
Visualizing stock selections could be easier with more creativity
The scene in The Little Mermaid where Ariel swims through gizmos and gadgets of plenty makes me want to sketch out a stock portfolio more spatially.
While I often remind people I am not a financial advisor and I won’t tell you which stocks to buy, I do feel called to participate in the visuals in the marketplace.
As a data artist & digital strategist with a book called Financial Joy I can see the confusion, but it’s the successful sales and marketing that leads us to have cash to invest.
Women are traditionally great shoppers, so why don’t stock options present in a more enticing way?
In this publication I will introduce two visual tactics anyone can adopt to enjoy the numbers conversation a bit more. Cheers to helping families think critically about budgeting & income creation decisions.

Things to look for if you think a friend is being controlled, manipulated, or financially abused: Sphere shrinks. 1. Never invite you over. 2. Cancel last minute, always.
3. Can’t decide alone.
4. Friendship circle changes. 5. Give excuses on meeting up.
6. Financially unsure with dire situation.
7. Doesn’t have good relationship with parents, no mentor with career & finance. 8. Frequents bars, strip clubs, private parties, escort services. 9. War victims or areas of political instability. 10. Natural disaster victims without home or safety. 11. Comes into massive amounts of money when they had none before. 12. Showing up with bruises and won’t discuss incident. 13.
Karen provides budgeting services for her clients as money changes drastically with divorce or major loss.
I touch on budgeting in The Revenue Ringlet and encourage people to get familiar with the highlighter method. Whether you track by category or mindset; patterns emerge. It allows us a chance to slow down and appreciate our prior decisions no matter the storm we may be in.
When elderly couples who have been married over 40 years decide to divorce, it’s a Gray Divorce. If the woman has low control over the checkbook, no career, no real skills in managing money, building her team becomes absolutely essential and is often overwhelming. They can become easy targets while in a divorce because they are unversed in fully understanding “fair.” Some divorce attorney’s don’t bridge the gap well and Karen suggests a Collaborative Divorce which brings on many more team members to provide adequate support to both parties.

This is the exact same data for Ms. B visualized with the cash flow circle, where expenses are on the inside of the circle. Each green dot represents a day on the calendar.
This data set is missing income!! Did they make $10,000 or 2,000? That changes the conversation completely.
In February, I published this image as a playful way to discuss matters of money and investment strategies. Nobody responded to my request for data but Karen Koenig presented to our digital PNA a few weeks later and it gave me clarity of a few ways to better open the dialogue.
Karen, a Financial Advisor, presented on the levels of assets someone could choose to invest in. This is what I doodled during her presentation: Primary colors for basic investments and jewel tone colors for alternative investments. (Normally we have a doodler on these calls because I wanted it to prepare folks for storyboarding!)
Karen and I also commiserated on the failed lessons parents pass on to their kids. If a parent lets their daughter be dependent on them now, it’s potentially training her to be dependent on someone her whole life. Blowing through $1000 on Uber Deliveries as a teenager certainly doesn’t prepare them for meal planning and earning & growing their own revenue one day.

It’s a sensitive conversational dance when sharing past choices with a Financial Advisor. They aren’t there to judge or condemn you as much as to invite you rethink some of your spending patterns.
Fixing a conflict of priorities is a topic easy to avoid.
Digging deep into WHY we make choices does take some discipline and courage.
If you found out over $700 left your account each month, for something that clearly wasn’t a documented priority, what would you do?
Shifting back to earning income, generating revenue, adding value to customers & your community. Consider your recent momentum in the marketplace with what you sell or promote.

As I invite more people to lean into this idea of data art, it’s important to realize the benefits bubble up at different seasons of learning and as opportunities for leadership emerge.
Engaging with data is better than ignoring it
New visualizations can shift concerns and beliefs
Developing Digital You takes a lot of creativity and data driven decision making. Storytelling imagery & talking head videos in general doesn’t help us decide. It helps us see a character at a point in time. Data art looks back at the choices we made in our prior month.
We become a character to study, encourage, and embrace.

The cash creator and cash flow circle can become monthly rituals for creatives in business. Snag your copy of Financial Joy at Dreamosity.com or book Marcelle to motivate your team and learn important insights quickly with a data art demo.
The internet collapses time in a way that is hard to explain. Posting a video to your one business page isn’t the only place people might benefit from it. Visualize your sphere of influence to help more people find your videos & resources!
Data art is a novel and complex topic. I’m happy to be interviewed on podcasts, instagram lives, or co-create to help bring this important message to more people. Stay well, Marcelle
