Division One Review
AC Majestic Relegated
A Three Horse Race in D1 The end of the ADASL season in the First Division looks as if it will be a "photo足finish" with only 4 points separating the 3 teams at the top of the league table. In that league table as it stands at print time of this publication, Melchester Wings leads the pack on 34 points having played 14 of 16 matches. G Tech FC are right behind them on 32 points after 14 games and Inkhead.com occupy third with 30 points having played 13 games.
Adding to the drama is that G Tech FC will actually be both Melchester Wings and Inkhead.com within the final 3 scheduled games of the season. Melchester and G Tech FC both have destiny in their own hands. If they both win out, they will be champions of the league. Inkhead.com will need to win out and also hope that Melchester drop points before they can have a chance at title glory. It's nail biting stuff for the clubs and those that support them. Note: Majestic will end the season in 4th after already being awarded a forfeit victory before match足day even arrives as FC Ljiljin will not field a team forSunday's game.
At the bottom of division one, the battle for survival has been won by Nuesoft FC as they last week defeated cellar dwellers, AC Majestic, by the score of 6足 1. This will end a miserable 1st division campaign for AC Majestic and will resign them to Division 2 play next year. Nuesoft go into the weekend on 8 points safe and from the 4 pts AC Majestic are sitting on going into a weekend when they play league leaders Melchester Wings. FC Ljiljan were the other disappointment this year from a team that won the Perrin Cup and finished 3rd in the league, to fighting relegation most of the year and not even fielding a team for the final league fixture. Much for that club to think about in the off season. More on that and Sting Gold and FC Brookhaven next week!
Additional Incentives?
This coming ADASL off season, WFN will be working with the top amateur football leagues in the area to revive a form of the Amateur Champions League for the top 3 teams in Division 1 to participate. We hope to contribute to the creation of a competition that will provide additional incentives for teams playing in Division One to aim for. Through sponsorship and advertising promotions, it is our hope to provide a monatary or material prize for the participants as well as sponsored registration and insurance. We look forward to any feedback, suggestions or questions about this proposal from any inrested party. Just send your inquery to admin@worldfootie.net In the meantime, we will extend the ADASL weekly publication on a limited basis in the off足season to track the proposal's progress.
G Tech FC goalkeeper, Matthew Sutton has been solid all year long for the club. Against FC Brookhaven his command of the area was a major factor in keeping the threat on goal at a low level on balance of the match.

Patrick Murray was Tech's play足maker along with former Atlanta Silverback, Jordan Davis. On the day and helped to conduct the midfield for a steady wave of attack against FC Brookhaven.

Overall a very entertaining match for the neutral. Brookhave were lively in attack but Tech equal to the task in their defense in the final 3rd and their own attack. It's setting up to be an exciting end to the season.

Focus Match Review:

Georgia Tech FC continues its challenge for a first ever Division One title with a comprehensive 5足1 victory over FC Brookhaven at their home at Southern Poly Stte University. A brace from Riley Sumpter added to goals from Don Pottinger, Spenser Sumpter and Pat Murray. The final scoreline did not tell the entire story and the play on the field was a lot closer than it might appear. FC Brookhaven possess a solid squad and the leagues Third leading scorer in former Creswell FC (now known as Inkhead) player, Nick Corley. Such was the injury and player availably issues for Brookhaven that Corley actually started the game in goal for the club. Despite this, Brookhaven did have moment in the game where they could have taken advantage and progress, but failed to take the initiative.

Tech ended up being the club that took advantage by converting their early chances and making Brookhaven chase the game. Brookhaven had no answer for the creative play of play足maker Patrick Murray and the finishing of Riley Sumpter and with the early lead by Tech, it was always going to be an uphill battle for the mid足table FC Brookhaven. A great result for Tech as it confirms that their league title race is still and truely alive and basically in their hands if they win out the 3 remaining games they have scheduled. Tech are also in the unique position to grab what we call "The Double" if they progress and win the Perrin Cup title as the did 2 seasons ago. It's all still to play for in the final games to come.

A Home Grown Team Closes Doors
Atlanta Silverbacks Reserves is an American soccer team based in Atlanta, Georgia, United States but plays it's football in Doraville, Georgia at Silverbacks Park. The team was founded in 2007 before which they were known as Atlanta FC. The team is a member of the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) which is a high足level national amateur league designated as the fourth tier of the American Association Football Pyramid, in the Southeast Division. WFN is sad to report that the Atlanta Silverbacks Reserves team will not play in the year 2013. No reason was given by team officials but the announcement was made a few weeks ago on the Atlanta Silverbacks Franchise website and life has moved on without them. It's another chapter of another failing team to go along with the many others in recent years in the region. But did anyone notice? The structure of football in general has always been a problem in the United States because the foundation on the game here is built on a system unlike any used by anyone else in the world. Unfortunately, this system includes teams left to their own devices and when they fail, they fail hard as in this case.
There is a report and speculation that the "hiatus" is temporary and the team will return for the 2014 season. Having said that, what effect will missing the 2013 season have for aspiring players who can't afford to take a year off and does it mean anything to fans of the team? The answer to the question is complicated because the youth system in the Unites States makes it very difficult for the serious player to find enough training, coaching and games to play in order to reach full potential of their playing skills. This in part because the "system" in the United States generally runs along an exclusive path and is beyond the reach of many
without the material means to first enter an elite youth club and then to be seen by clubs in the lottery of try足outs, combines and limited scouting. Add to this that lower leagues in the United States are poorly supporter both by fans of the game and by franchises in higher leagues. Even the ADASL is on it's own as far as financing, sponsorship, coaching and player development. So where do the players who had the prospect to play in the Reserves squad go during this time of hiatus? The answer is simple and brutal but they are on their own. We would hope they would see the value in spending the time in a top level amateur team in the ADASL's 1st division, but that also is a gamble. There is no real guarantee that teams in the ADASL (regardless of how attractive the league is) will give the player the time, coaching, training and contacts needed to progress to the professional ranks.
There are precious few places for the serious and ambitious player in the region to go this year without actually leaving the country. Even abraod they are outsiders and it would be a difficult task to break in a place that actually has supported and integrated youth systems. On the other hand, recreationally there are many choices as the country is glutted with "rec" leagues of all types, sizes and quality. Unfortunately, this is not of much use to the type of player that wants to play professionally. The couaching and training in these types of leagues is inadequate and many times non足 existent. From a business standpoint, it may make sense to the team officials to take a year off. As we mentioned, without fan support and material support from the Silverbacks Pro Team, the point of going through a season with no resources or fan support just didn't seem logical. With attention only focused on the
ADASL stand足out Ramiro Canovas was a fixture in the Reserves Team.
Pro level teams, one wonders why fans and supporters of the game do not care for what should come first and that's the grass足roots and youth development of the game. To cast away the a club for a year as easily and as quietly as has been done in many cases around the league, one wonders if the supporters actually care about the game outside of pro and the fun recreational leagues. Though the region has an unbelievable amount of "potential" talent, only time will tell if we will ever start to pay attention to this talent and give it the attention it needs from a coaching, training and fan support point of view. Until then, these players likely will continue to be ignored and have to work out their developments in a solitary environment.
