here is no time for the I-have-nothing-towear-I’m-not-going-out moment. Staring up at Bryan’s face from the pile of clothes I have dramatically thrown myself into, I realize I’m about to be dumped. “It’s Torche, Meghan. Put Converse on your feet and let’s go.” The problem is I’m a foul-mouthed, crass tomboy who loves to dress girly. I opt for a plain old gray shirt and black skinny jeans, but I refuse to fully let myself go. Some smoky eyes, silver necklaces, heels and I’m good. Sorry, I have a vagina. I can’t fucking help it. Arriving at the Social downtown, I scan the line of endless black T-shirts. Mostly males, a small handful of females and, oh god, creepy girl. I’ll get to her later. Right now, I’m too busy trying to figure out why girls would even be at a Torche show. I mean, guys like these kind of bands because they are into the music, the guitars and the emotional release they probably experience through slamming into each other in the pit. But girls? Girls are idiots when it comes to music. I’m sorry but let’s face it, Britney, Hanson, Backstreet Boys and Pete Wentz didn’t make themselves famous. If a girl says she is into a “guy” b a n d even as popular as Led Zeppelin, or in this case Torche, it’s usually a ploy to impress the opposite sex. See also, T.S. Elliot,

philosophy, sports, video games, and pretending to enjoy strip clubs the first month of dating. The bands play and the show is nothing short of entertaining. But even as enjoyable as the breeze was from the dude in front of me tossing his hair back-and-forth like a Dancer’s Royale stripper on crack, I really need to take advantage of the fact that Bryan is my designated driver tonight. We have one last drink at the Social, then head over to Bar-BQ-Bar for another, to I-Bar for a few more and then over to Eye Spy for the last couple. At this point I am in complaining mode and, once again, I am drunk. Tonight I must

be feeling less hateful because I aim my usual slurring rants towards the subject of hugging. Bryan, why do people have to hug all the time when they are out it’s not like I’m going to die and not see them again oh Bryan! You know that creepy girl who hugs everyone at the bar well she was at the Social tonight and I don’t know her but she keeps wanting to hug me. Hey! Remember the guy who used to ask all the girl’s to pat his back at Bar-BQ-Bar? Do you think he masturbated to all our pats? Oh my god do you think that creepy girl masturbates to my hugs?! That was the last coherent, if you want to call it that, thought I had for the night. I’m sure shortly after the word “masturbate” was yelled loud enough to be heard over Lady Gaga’s paparazzi, Bryan wrapped up the tab and dragged me to the car. The next two hours were spent leaning over the side of my bed not understanding why I had so many shots of whisky when I don’t even like whisky. All I could do was spew it back up and half cry as Bryan held my hair. I was miserable. So miserable in fact, that I actually wouldn’t have minded a hug from Creepy Girl. meghan@drinkorlando.com

SPILL IT If you could make a wish in 2010 for Orlando, what would you wish for? I WISH DOWNTOWN ORLANDO WAS AT LEAST ONE BLOCK BIGGER IN EACH DIRECTION. I COULD USE SOME NEW SPOTS. – ANONYMOUS

{

I WISH ORLANDO HAD MORE TO BE HAPPY ABOUT THAN ANOTHER MALL STORE OPENING. ANY OTHER CITY HAS ACTUAL CULTURE, AND WE HAVE A NEW H&M. – ILLUSTRIOUS VIDEOBOY, CLUB NIGHT PROMOTER

I wish that everyone could DJ with their feet like Pauly Crush, because it’s wildly entertaining.

I wish fixed-gear kids would wear deodorant in public. – ANONYMOUS

– HOPE LESLIE, STUDENT/PROMOTER

20

I WISH ORLANDO GREW SOME BALLS AND EXTENDED LAST CALL UNTIL AT LEAST 3. – JASON RICHARD PECORARO, DIRECTOR OF MARKETING AND PROMOTIONS, SMILEFORCAMERA.COM

I WISH LOU PEARLMAN WAS STILL AROUND SO I COULD LET HIM DIDDLE ME FOR THE RIGHT RECORD DEAL WHERE I GET TO CONTROL ALL ASPECTS OF THE FUNDING. JUST KIDDING THAT’S GROSS. – RICKY DIAMOND, ENTERTAINER

– KRISTEN PRATT, UCF RADIO SHOW HOST

I WISH THE DAYS OF KIT KAT WOULD COME BACK. IF THAT CAN’T HAPPEN, I WISH THERE WAS A BARRIER AROUND DOWNTOWN THAT WAS TUNED TO EXCLUDE STUDENTS FROM UCF WITH GPAS UNDER 3.3 FROM ENTERING. – CRACKER JACKSON, ENTERTAINER

– ANONYMOUS

{

I WISH CHURCH STREET GAVE ME LESS POPPED COLLARS, AND MORE ROOM BETWEEN ME AND THE MAKO’S GIRLS.

I wish there were more 21-plus places in Orlando so I didn’t have to worry about whether I’m hitting on an 18 year old.

I wish that, like Wally’s, more bars could “grandfather” their way out of some archaic, 50-year-old statute which enables me to order a double at 9 a.m. and actually get a triple. That is sheer genius. – ANONYMOUS

I WISH THAT EVERYONE WHO WAS NOT HAPPY HERE WOULD JUST LEAVE. I LOVE HOW YOU FEEL ENTITLED TO BITCH ABOUT HOW “LAME” OR “DUMB” THIS CITY IS WHILE YOU DON’T REALIZE THAT YOU ACTUALLY ADD NOTHING TO MY HOMETOWN. I CHEER EVERY TIME ONE OF YOU MOVES FAR, FAR AWAY. – SARAH SIAK, DRESSED HAUTE STYLIST

I wish that Orlando would finish repaving more of the roads near downtown. I feel like I’m on an old wooden roller coaster going down Robinson Street. My boobs jiggle so much they actually pain me. – ANONYMOUS

I wish the Total Wine on Colonial was open later than the Chick-fil-A – MEGHAN SCHALK, DRINK EDITOR next to it. 21
