Team Chief Designer: Zhang Yu Designer: Luis Designer: Ella In Fuzhou, known as Rongcheng (a city of banyan trees), people used to gather under trees and chat, thus forming a nature-based village settlement culture. Focusing on the concept of ‘gathering’, IF DESIGN and WATERFROM create a social field where people can stay, gather and interact naturally through the architecture.

Learning of Four Arts, Guests from Four Directions Project Commissioner Zhongliang Holdings Group Creator Wenzhou Chengshijian Architecture Design Consultants This project is located in Yiwu, Jinhua City, Zhejiang Province, China, which bears thousands of years of history. It not only was where the states Qi and Lu stood, but also has influences from Chu and Yue. All kinds of architecture, both old and new, form a well-proportioned texture of the city. The designers thus drew inspiration from the Yuan dynasty poem ‘Mountain Retreat’, combed through the ancient veins of the local history, carefully considered the location with mountains on its north, south, and east side, and refined the elegant delights of the literati of Yiwu. Through the process of deciphering and reconstructing, an elegant vintage feeling was shaped via including distant, unworldly Eastern aesthetics, embodying magnificent beauty and the spirit of ‘beyond the physical form’. Furthermore, the designers referenced the special spatial form that is ‘Guests from Four Directions’ and integrated scenery and humanities with life. Multiple aspects can be seen in all areas, and through poetry and culture, a ‘new Eastern landscape garden’ was fused.

Team Chao-Yen Chen, Pei-Jung Chen The design project is for a reception center; cultural presence is adopted in the main space, while the three model houses are built in the styles of contemporary humanities and cultures, a modern flat, and contemporary neoclassical architecture.

The integrated space of contemporary and humanities has layouts including a 5-table meeting area, a model engineering building, a coffee table area, 2 VIP rooms, 3 model houses, a parent-child playground area, a demonstration of a shallow water well; it reveals a luxurious atmosphere of leisure in the rural area.

As space used as a promotional center, it has a northern European style that is applied to the 4-table meeting area, the bar, the console, the BY table, the VIP room, the model engineering building, and the multimedia room as the introduction of a story. Besides, the other model houses are built in the modern new American style and the Italian simple style individually to demonstrate completely different atmospheres in the space.
