FALL/WINTER 2013-2014 MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
The 2002 GED Closeout is Coming! The current 2002 version of the GED will “Closeout” on December 31, 2013. After that date, old partial GED test scores will no longer be valid, and everyone will have to start over. We have added additional test dates to our GED schedule to help meet the anticipated demand, but please don’t wait until the last minute to register and take your tests. The 2014 version of the GED test will become available on January 1, 2014, as a computer-based examination. You can’t take it online at home! You must go to an approved Pearson VUE testing center. Fremont Adult and Continuing Education will be offering the new computer-based exam as an approved Pearson VUE test center. For more information, please see page 4 of this brochure. Many thanks to our Community, School Board, District Leadership, Legislators, and Governor for recognizing the value of a full-service adult school to the academic, personal, and economic health of our community. The recently passed State budget provides hope for a brighter future for all levels of education in California. My staff and I look forward to providing you with more services and course options. Please, if you don’t find the course that you want in this brochure, contact us. We will do our best to help you be a Lifelong Learner! HIGH SCHOOL LEARNING CENTER This is a self-paced learning environment where students may complete coursework to fulfill graduation requirements. The lab is open Monday through Thursday mornings from 8:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. and evenings from 5:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
ADULT INDEPENDENT STUDY To help students who cannot attend our regularly scheduled classes or the High School Learning Center, Fremont Adult and Continuing Education has a Distance Learning (DL) option. This option involves meeting weekly or bi-weekly with an instructor for support and testing while completing the coursework (reading, video, computer software and written assignments) independently at home. This is a good option for highly motivated students with the appropriate reading/skill levels. Enrollment in this option is very limited due to recent budget reduction and must be approved by an administrator. Independent Study intake is by appointment only. High School Diploma Requirements
