Contributor: Quinton Bolden Sample NearPod Lesson In this unit, rst grade students will be learning how to solve word problems adding and subtracting within 20 to solve contextual problems. Students may not understand the meanings of addition, subtraction, whole numbers, sum, equal to, less than, or unknown number. Students will have the opportunity to participate in one on one or class wide demonstrations as the idea of solving real life word problems are introduced. The vocabulary for solving word problems will be introduced. The students will have the chance to increase their knowledge through manipulatives, Microsoft teams video instructions, and even learning games created by the teacher. When the students learn the idea of solving math word problems, they can use this to solve other types of math problems. Solve word problems adding and subtracting within 20 to solve word problems, with unknowns in all positions, involving situations of add to, take from, put together/take apart, and compare. Use objects, drawings, and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
