Famous throughout the world for its alligators, cypress trees, and colorful history, Okefenokee Swamp is recognized by the United Nations as a “wetland of international importance” because of the diversity of the wildlife it supports.
Native Americans called the swamp the “Land of Trembling Earth” due to the unstable peat deposits that cover much of the swamp floor and “tremble” when stepped on Wildlife can be observed from several observation areas and platforms including unique species of carnivorous plants, rare birds, and alligators.
