BUILDING FOR THE FUTURE
Construction is well under way on a new Mint Hill Public Services Facility located on a Town-owned parcel of land on Lebanon Road near the intersection with Margaret Wallace Road.
The 18-acre multi-use site complex will house the Public Services headquarters; maintenance, equipment, and material storage; a two-bay fire station with training facilities; a fuel depot; and Police Department support spaces.
The $17 million municipal development was designed by Creech & Associates and is being built by Edifice, LLC. They are crafting this project using the design-build method, meaning the architect and contractor are collaborating through every stage of the project
to deliver the best facility possible for the Town of Mint Hill.
Public Works touches the lives of residents daily through the services they provide. A larger facility will allow Public Works to maintain current service levels while gaining the capacity for the Department to expand and grow to meet the future needs of the Town.
Mayor Brad Simmons has stated, “The benefits to Mint Hill citizens and businesses generated by this project cannot be totally measured but will continue to benefit both for generations to come.”
This much-anticipated project has a projected opening date of December 2024.
The Town of Mint Hill is working hard to make its crosswalks safer for people walking. Two crosswalk signs with flashing warning lights have been installed on Lebanon Road to make local streets safer for pedestrians and drivers. Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) are pedestrian-activated flashing devices, designed to alert motorists of activity in the crosswalk. RRFB warning lights provide an additional, effective way to alert drivers to yield to pedestrians
Additional RRFB’s are likely to be installed in other locations in the future.

CITIZEN WELL-CHECK
This program was developed as a way to enhance the safety of some of the community’s most vulnerable residents and provide peace of mind to those who care about them. Once an individual is registered in the program, a weekly telephone check is scheduled to verify the individual is able to respond. Without a positive response, the individual's emergency contacts are made aware. If an emergency contact cannot be reached, a uniformed police officer is dispatched to the address to determine the individual's status. For information, call the police department at 704-545-1085.

MAKING THE SCHOOL BUS EXPERIENCE SAFER
Here Comes The Bus is a free, easy-to-use app and website that enables parents and authorized caregivers to see the location of their child’s bus both before and after school pickup on a smartphone, tablet, or personal computer. The app uses global positioning system (GPS) technology to locate and track your child’s school bus. It’s free to download on either the Apple Store or Google Play.
• See the location of your child’s bus both before and after school
• Confirm that your child’s bus has arrived at the bus stop, at school or both
• Receive a push notification or email message when the bus is near your stop, has been substituted, or when there’s important information to relay
Once the free app is downloaded, all you need to do is sign up using CMS’ district code (73877) and your student's ID number (contact your child's school if you don't have it). Next, follow the prompts and create an account.
Passing a stopped school bus could be a very costly mistake. You are not permitted to pass a school bus that is stopped with its red lights flashing. A first offense/violation is a Class 1 misdemeanor, with a mandatory minimum $500 fine. It's also a 5-point insurance hit, which will increase your rates substantially.
Slow down to the posted speed limit in a school zone. Speeding in a school zone will cost violators $250.

Home Again Foundation's Small Beginnings Community, located in north Charlotte, includes eight one-, two- and three-bedroom cottages. The homes are built from recycled materials and give previous homeless individuals a place to call their own. The foundation also provides supportive services such as financial counseling and other identified needs to ensure the residents of Home Again are on the path to self-sufficiency. The foundation’s next project is to build an all-veterans community in Mecklenburg County.

Every dog and cat, four months of age and older in North Carolina, must be vaccinated against rabies. This law also applies to ferrets within the city limits of Charlotte. In NC, the animal's first rabies shot is good for one year and subsequent vaccinations are valid for three years. If you have recently moved to NC and the rabies vaccination was given at a vet outside of NC then it is still a valid shot (regardless of it being a 1 year or 3 year shot).
The fine for failing to display a rabies tag is $50.00 and a $50.00 fine may be levied if your animal does not have a valid rabies vaccination.
LEASH LAW
