Engineering and Space Science

Escape Room: Dasher Edition

Escape rooms are a type of physical adventure game in which a group of people are locked in a room and have to solve a series of puzzles, find clues, and escape the room within a set time limit. Let’s try it at DSHA! We’ll devise a challenge that will get you to use your detective skills and work as a team to solve the mystery! July 12-16 | 9-11 a.m.and/or July 26-30 | 9-11 a.m. | $50

Etiquette

Learn essential manners and social skills that will provide more self-confidence as you encounter more challenging personal interactions in middle school, high school, and beyond. With fun and interactive role-playing we’ll learn things from introductions to public speaking to good sportsmanship to table manners. June 28-July 2 | 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. | $50

Fabric Fun

Tie dye, puffy paint, and fabric markers, oh my! Each day, you’ll design and decorate a piece of clothing including socks, hats, and more. Creativity and individualism are strongly encouraged, and you will be able to work together to perfect fabulous fashion pieces! A list of required clothing pieces will be provided before camp begins. Fiction Writers Workshop

Get ready for a crash course in the fiction writing process. From planning and plotting, to revisions and edits, you’ll get the insider’s view to the world of storytelling. You’ll also have a chance to put your knowledge to work on your own writing and have an opportuity to give feedback on each other’s creations. Start being the best writer you can be! June 21-25 | 2-4 p.m. | $50

First Aid and Safety

Come learn the basics of first aid! Simple emergency procedures including use of the bystander CPR and AED system will be covered. We’ll talk about recognizing emergency situations and how to get help. We’ll also assemble a home first aid kit and put together a safety plan to complete with your family. You won’t receive a formal certification, but you will gain important skills. June 14-18 | 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. | $65

Gearing up for Algebra!

Enhance your math skills in a fun, relaxed environment. Get a jump start on the new school year. Develop a basic understanding of algebra concepts, build models, practice algebraic thinking, and build confidence. Algebra is right around the corner. Previous knowledge of algebra not necessary. Girl Power Book Club: Women in STEM

The world is full of women making incredible discoveries in science, technology, engineering, math, and more! Let’s talk about who and how they are impacting our society. From physicist Madame Curie to anthropologist Jane Goodall to Kathryn Johnson, one of the “computers” in the early space program, women are making a difference in STEM! One of our own DSHA alumnae is studying engineering at MIT and was named a Rhodes Scholar! Let’s learn their stories and see what it takes to bring girl power to life! July 19-23 | 2-4 p.m. | $50 GraceGirls is a well-known program that introduces the fun of fitness, while promoting strong bodies, strong minds, and strong hearts! GraceGirls daily workouts will feature fun ways to exercise for girls of all skill levels. But we won’t just work out—we’ll use fun games and activities to help us figure out how our body parts work together to exercise, walk, talk, eat, sleep, and play. Whether you are fit as a fiddle or have never done a burpee, you’ll move and learn that “Strong is Beautiful” and our bodies are amazing! Girls Who Code Handbells How to Succeed at Studying Without Really Trying

Coding is one of the fastest growing fields today! Only 26% of all coders are women. Join the mission to close the gender gap in technology and change the image of what a programmer looks like. Girls Who Code provides girls with a safe, fun, and supportive learning environment. With the support of their peers and role models, girls learn to see themselves as computer scientists. Through fun and interactive curricula, girls will not only learn about how to positively impact their community through code, but they also are taught to be brave and resilient. Come learn basic computer science concepts in a fun and creative way. June 14-18 | 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. | $50 Come get a sneak peek at one of the most popular music classes at DSHA! Join Director of the DSHA Handbells Choir Mark Eagon in this introduction to the beautiful art of handbell ringing. Campers will create a chorus of sound while learning about the place of handbell ringing in both music and worship arts. It’s a great opportunity to activate the creative side of the brain by engaging the senses. Campers of all abilities are encouraged to attend this fun and unique music camp. Investing and Finance

It’s never too early to learn about money and how to become financially savvy! We’ll use fun and interactive activities to learn financial literacy. Let’s look at how money works, how to earn it, and save it for that special item or for your future! We’ll talk about money basics: save, spend, donate, and invest. July 19-23 | 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. | $50

Compete in the brainest challenge in Olympic history! Using creative and fun math games and projects, campers will sharpen their problem solving strategies that foster mathematical creativity. Individuals and teams will compete for the gold medal and strengthen their math skills at the same time. June 28-July 2 | 2-4 p.m. | $50

Mingle and Meditate

Summer is a time to take a break from the stress and busyness of school and after-school activities. Learn some concrete strategies for relieving stress, staying calm, and working collaboratively. We’ll experience different calming techniques including some yoga practices. Campers will walk away from this week feeling refreshed and energized and with some tips on how to stay that way through the school year! July 12-16 | 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. | $50

Mock Trial Camp

Do you love CSI and Law & Order and think of a career as a litigator might be for you? Attorney Erin Strohbehn, DSHA ’98, will introduce students to the law, debate, and public speaking as they prepare for and participate in a simulated trial experience. Students will work in teams while tackling legal issues, engaging in legal analysis, and learning about different roles and responsibilities in the courtroom. The camp is a fun way to develop critical thinking and oral advocacy skills. If you participated in this camp in the past, feel free to return—the fact pattern will be different, so you can put past years’ skills to work! July 26-30 | 9-11 a.m. | $65

Girls look to their moms for support, guidance, and love. This yoga series will enhance your unique bond through the sharing of fun, accessible, friendly, partner-pose yoga and active relaxation, followed by open conversation and artistic journaling. Classes will weave in prevalent social issues such as building healthy self-esteem, positive-self talk, and reducing stress. Empowered with information and support, our daughters will feel confident to make healthy decisions as the teen years approach and independence beckons. And mothers will feel grateful as they cultivate a safe space for their growing daughter to stay connected and open-hearted. No prior yoga experience necessary, just a willingness to be as you are and come together through wellness. Movie Making

Campers learn to write, direct, and edit their own short movie in a fun educational atmosphere. Learn the elements of storytelling, editing, and special effects. Turn your summer memories into your own motion picture! July 26-30 | 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. | $65

Pinspiration

Do you love DIY projects? We’ll take a look at what’s trending on Pintrest and create projects using imagination and crafting techniques. Get ready to turn everyday household objects into art! July 19-23 | 9-11 a.m. | $75 Join Julie Leack Karasek, DSHA ‘90, owner of The Patched Works Quilting Shop in Elm Grove, and get introduced to the wonderful world of quilting. We will discuss technique and quilt-math to create your own patterns. Julie will provide fabric and supplies to design, plan, and complete a hand-quilted project. See how artistic creativity and math go together to produce a beautiful work of art! No previous sewing experience necessary. (Grades 4-8) June 21-25 | 2-4 p.m. | $75

Science and Math of Cooking

How do milk, sugar, and salt turn into ice cream? What does gluten do to bread? How does milkfat affect the taste of cheese? Explore the science behind these and other popular foods through hands-on experiments. After a week of measuring, cooking, and testing, you will leave with delicious recipes, mental math tricks, and plenty of fun food facts to impress your family and friends! Service—Dasher Style

Service is such an important aspect of being a Dasher! Come and participate in some of the same service projects DSHA students do during the school year—and learn what it takes to create your own service project! Each day we will work together to contribute to a service project grounded in our sponsoring order’s Salvatorian mission of sharing the goodness and kindness of Jesus Christ. (Grades 4-8) June 28-July 2 | 9-11 a.m. | $50 A sweet twist on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. Spend the week completing STEAM candy-themed activities and experiments. From constructing candy cars and boats to creating your own candy maze, you will collaborate with your fellow scientists and dig deep into understanding STEM concepts with art. Super Brain: Math

Numbers are everywhere in our world. This camp will help you learn the complex and abstract subject of math through mathematical games geared to improve your thinking ability quanitatively. July 19-23 | 9-11 a.m. | $50

Unplug: Building Healthy Habits Without a Device!

Everyone needs to relax once in a while but taking a vacation every time you are stressed isn’t very realistic! Let’s encourage healthy habits and activities in a tech-free way. Each day will focus on activities that will help you unplug and recharge yourself with healthy and fun techniques. From activities of movement to making healthy after-school snacks to reflection and mediatation, these activities will encourage healthy habits for a successful school year and care for yourself during times of high stress. As you prepare for a new school year, envision your goals and aspirations and devise a plan to achieve them. Learn the importance behind a vision board and spend the week discovering what drives you and inspires you to meet your goals. Create your own beautiful vision board for the upcoming year. Vocal Music Camp

This one-week intensive vocal music camp will help you get to know your voice better by exploring registers and effective breathing techniques and learning exciting repertoire (you will learn solo songs as well as group numbers). You will also improve your ear by singing in harmony with other campers. Finally, get more comfortable performing by participating in the concert at the end of the week—friends and family welcome! Writing for the Stage

Great theatre begins with the story. This camp is for girls interested in theatre or writing in general. We will read excerpts from different play genres, watch parts of successful productions, and write your own short plays. You’ll learn how play scripts are written and how they are different from regular storytelling. You’ll have the chance to give and receive feedback and hear what your own play sounds like out loud! INCOMING FRESHMEN

Camp Dasher

Rev up for the new school year! Spend five glorious days at DSHA in this fantastic introduction to your first year. You’ll explore the school, make new friends, meet faculty and staff, learn about classes, and discover ways to make the most of your four years as a Dasher. Sample school curriculum through mini-sessions and gain skills in notetaking, writing, organization, and more. You’ll also participate in a service project, daily reflection, and recreation. July 12-16 | 9 a.m.-2 p.m. | $125

Forensics Boot Camp

Extemporaneous speaking, dramatic interpretation, poetry, prose, and more! Suitable for seasoned competitors or beginners entering high school, this camp is designed to prepare you for the 2021-22 forensics season. In a fun, supportive atmosphere, you will build on your strengths to refine your communication skills and learn the art of effective delivery. Other areas of focus will include voice and breath control, peer coaching, and using mindfulness to gain a competitive edge. Leadership Boot Camp

Leadership is a big part of being a Dasher and this boot camp will get you in shape to be a leader at DSHA. This day-long experience will build a connection within the class of 2025 as well as a sense of community while inspiring students to be leaders from their first day at DSHA. Group activities focused on teamwork, critical thinking, and real-life scenarios combined with fun ice breakers will prepare freshmen to make an immediate impact at DSHA. Learning How to Learn: How to Succeed in School Without Spending All Your Time Studying

This practical, fun, and handson workshop is based on the best-selling book of the same name, and we will use that book as a guide for our workshop. Learn new things about how people really do learn and use all this as a way to create a learning approach you can put into practice when school starts. Cross Country

DSHA Head Cross Country Coach Andy Lelinski will introduce you to distance running, as well as individual instruction in techniques and training necessary to prepare for the 2021 fall season. Workouts, guest lectures, and fun activities are all designed to instruct, entertain, and motivate. This camp acknowledges a wide variety of talent and experience and will tailor the running portion of the program to suit the individual needs of participants. Field Hockey

Learn a new sport! Join the DSHA Varsity coaching staff, current players, and alums to learn the sport of field hockey. Incoming Freshman Camp—get a jump on tryouts and see what the sport is all about.

Shin guards and mouth guard are required. Cleats or turf shoes preferred, but sneakers are allowed. Fitness & Performance Camp

DSHA Director of Fitness and Performance Brian Calhoun will provide a safe and effective training program to improve overall fitness and performance, and reduce injury. This camp will introduce the five basic bio-motor skills in speed, strength, endurance, flexibility, and coordination. This camp is for athletes and non-athletes alike. Golf

DSHA Head Golf Coach Phil Plautz will provide instruction on the fundamentals of the game of golf. Campers will learn the rules of the game and golf etiquette, in addition to swing instruction and putting, to make this a camp you won’t want to miss.
