Are they in a hurry? Are they slowing down? Are they distracted? If they see you, that’s good.

FAVORITE THING ABOUT BIKING TO WORK: It is a great way to build cardio as well as sight-see during my bike ride. ADVICE FOR OTHER FAS WHO WANT TO BIKE TO WORK: It is very cheap mode of transportation, especially after obtaining a second-hand bike. [Plus], it is a great hobby, and it’s fun when you are riding with other people.

This past fall I only drove three times, once because I had to go to the grocery store… I don’t bike when there’s ice on the roads or it’s below freezing. FAVORITE THING ABOUT BIKING TO WORK: My ride is only about a mile long, so I take the long, scenic route [for] about two or three miles to make the ride worthwhile. ADVICE FOR OTHER FAS WHO WANT TO BIKE TO WORK: Do it! It’s fun! I’m a lot happier when I’m biking than when I’m driving… You don’t see angry people on bikes.

COMMUTE DISTANCE: 1 mile HOW OFTEN DO YOU BIKE TO WORK? I try to bike to campus every day when the streets are dry, although I do sometimes get out of the habit. But I definitely feel better when I bike to work. FAVORITE THING ABOUT BIKING TO WORK: I just really love it! My favorite [riding] is when there’s any kind of traffic. For example, the other day, someone had blocked the [intersection], and I just got to skirt right around that car! ADVICE FOR OTHER FAS WHO WANT TO BIKE TO WORK: I think that once you can establish the system, it’s really easy. I minimize the steps that would prevent me from biking to work each day, [so I] remove the obstacles.

COMMUTE DISTANCE: 6.2 miles HOW OFTEN DO YOU BIKE TO WORK? It really depends. Sometimes I’ll ride three or four days a week, sometimes I go two weeks without commuting at all. FAVORITE THING ABOUT BIKING TO WORK: It definitely is the winding down at the end of the day. I’m riding in the direction of the sunset. It has a calming effect. ADVICE FOR OTHER FAS WHO WANT TO BIKE TO WORK: You have to make it a habit. Once you’ve done it enough, then it becomes easy.

COMMUTE DISTANCE: 0.5 miles HOW OFTEN DO YOU BIKE TO WORK? I bike to work every day. I only missed three days this year in which I didn’t bike to work. I bike to work even in snow. FAVORITE THING ABOUT BIKING TO WORK: The sense of freedom biking enables me to have, with the wind blowing in my hair. Also, I feel very noble using humanpowered transportation instead of fossil fuel resources. ADVICE FOR OTHER FAS WHO WANT TO BIKE TO WORK: I think biking saves time. I love to swim at the Kline, so I utilize biking to make it to my class in time. Also, biking is easy on your body.

COMMUTE DISTANCE: 5.1 miles HOW OFTEN DO YOU BIKE TO WORK? As often as I can. I don’t bike if it’s raining or if there’s an impending thunderstorm or if temperatures are way too cold. FAVORITE THING ABOUT BIKING TO WORK: I ride along the LeTort trail, and I really enjoy being out in nature. It’s relaxing for mind and spirit. I win. ADVICE FOR OTHER FAS WHO WANT TO BIKE TO WORK: I added on a little luggage rack simply to take my backpack off my shoulders. If you ride more than 20 [minutes] a little luggage rack is wonderful to relieve your shoulders.

I don’t want to be in a car!
