Church Initiative

What’s it take to be a sponsoring church?

A desire to share the Word of God: “I came to understand, it’s not how many people who hear my voice on Sunday, it’s how many people hear His voice” ~ Sponsoring church pastor

Bible Teaching/Leadership Resource Group

ponsoring S

A willingness to invest in the life and family of a church planter: “I need someone I can call; it gets lonely planting a church. I want someone to bounce ideas off, a sounding board, someone willing to share with me their experience.” ~ Church Planter “It is so special when the sponsoring church pastor’s wife comes occasionally and takes my wife to lunch. Three or four times a year our sponsoring church provides childcare and money for a date night.” ~ Church Planter A kingdom spirit to give sacrificially people, resources, and energy for those who have not yet come. “Our church is looking more and more like the New Testament norm, there is a sense of excitement and joy. We are working together for the gospel. Birthing something new is contagious.” ~ Sponsoring Church Member

Will you pray about becoming a sponsoring church? Sponsoring Church Initiative – 25% of Mission Ohio Churches significantly involved in church planting by 2020. (Currently 8% of SCBO churches are involved in church planting… 4% SBC nationally) For more information contact Steve Hopkins. SteveHopkins@scbo.org or 614-827-1820

MAY 3rd & 4th, 2012 COLUMBUS, OHIO

(Exact location will be forthcoming) This will be the third year for the Forum. Comments

and appraisals from last year’s Forum were tremendous. Again, the purpose will be for all church planters and wives within the first four years of the plant to gather and learn from each other.

Church Planting Resource Group

THE CHURCH PLANTER’S FORUM!

The environment creates an atmosphere of sharing,

camaraderie, praise, and fellowship. Planters from large cities, rural areas, the burbs, and various ethnic groups are represented. Last year over 40 planters, 24 wives, and other leaders gathered. The total attendance was over 80!

The structure will once again be one where the planters

learn from each other in break-outs, sharing testimonies, and worship. As always, the lodging and meals will be paid for by the Cooperative Program funds. Come and learn from those who know exactly what you are experiencing… other planters.

For more information or to register,

contact Charlotte Barbo at cbarbo@scbo.org or 614-827-1804.

As the Evangelism Resource Group of the State Convention of Baptists in Ohio, we strive individually and collectively to engage Christ followers and churches in the Great Commission. To this end, we focus our time, energy, and resources on the following purposes: Sharing the gospel personally, and both equiping and mobilizing others to do the same. Starting groups, ministries, and churches that multiply Christ followers and ministries. Strengthening leaders and their churches to become more faithful in obeying the Great Commission. Synergizing individuals and groups to work more collectively and effectively at seeing the Great Commission fulfilled. Every Believer Sharing, Every Person Hearing by 2020 Reaching Across North America 2012

Any Christian leader knows the challenges involved in mobilizing individuals to share their faith. Project

Training & Application - Within one hour, OCM collegiate teams can train you and your church to use Soularium meaningfully and effectively. With another hour, OCM collegiate teams can take your people out on the fly to engage your community with the gospel.

Evangelism Resource Group

Soularium

The

Soularium is a picture-based, evangelism engagement tool that is fun, easy, and contagious. Drawing upon 5 simple questions and 50 images, Soularium gives Christians the ability to nonconfrontationally engage non-believers in spiritual conversation that draws the believer and non-believer closer to Christ.

References – Are you still a bit skeptical? We’ll give you a list of references from around the country who have been in your shoes and who now fully endorse Soularium. If you’re still not convinced, we’ll connect you with folks who have come to Christ through Soularium. Bring It On – If you’ve seen enough and you’d like to have an OCM team to facilitate a Soularium training, check out www.ohiocollegiate.com or contact Brian Frye (bfrye@scbo.org) directly. You’ll be glad you did!

Ohio Collegiate Ministries Collegiate Retreats Each year Ohio Collegiate Ministries (OCM) sponsors collegiate retreats across our state. These extended worship and discipleship gatherings provide students with opportunities to connect with God more deeply and to connect more fully to Christian community. OCM retreats are open to all college attending or college-age students, regardless of involvement in local campus ministries.

OCM Fall Retreat – October 26-27, 2012 – At Fall Retreat campus

ministries statewide converge on Seneca Lake Baptist Assembly for a time of connection, relaxation, and spiritual engagement. The registration deadline for Fall Retreat 2012 is Friday, September 16th. Questions? Contact Brian Frye (bfrye@scbo.org) for more information.

Campus Specific Retreats & Advances – In addition to

our fall state collegiate gathering, other weekend retreats (and advances) are available throughout the year. Details about our campus specific retreats are available at www.ohiocollegiate.com.

Ohio Collegiate Ministries Are you interested in having collegiate summer or semester missionaries working with your church or ministry? Through your cooperative program dollars, the North American Mission Board (NAMB) and Ohio Collegiate Ministries (OCM) provide funding and support for collegiate missionaries to do evangelism or church planting projects throughout Ohio. For complete details on the program go to www.answerthecall.net Semester Missionaries – College students serving between one and five semesters. Summer Missionaries – College students serving 4 to 10 weeks (May through August). Fine Print - In order to request collegiate missionaries, you will need to keep the following information in mind: • Absolute deadline for summer missionary position requests: February 28, 2012. • Students receive a $75/week stipend (paid by NAMB) for full-time work, and half that for part-time work as a semester missionary.

2012

• All “work” activities for collegiate missionaries must focus on evangelism and/or church planting. This requirement is a nonnegotiable in order to secure collegiate missionaries. • In order to have a collegiate missionary a field supervisor from the requesting ministry must be selected and he or she must attend the Developing & Managing People (DMP) training on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 in Columbus, Ohio (State Convention Offices). • Requesting church and/or ministries are responsible for securing and covering the cost of food, lodging, and transportation while the student is on the field. NAMB will pay for travel to and from the field of service at the beginning and end of the mission project. • All summer missionaries must attend missionary orientation in Columbus, Ohio, on Friday, June 1, 2012 (State Convention Office).

Summer & Semester Missions

Ohio Invigorate Team 4.0

30

In the summer of 2012, a six-member collegiate evangelism team will travel throughout Ohio for four weeks. During the month, the team will focus on three objectives: 1) doing and modeling evangelism on college campuses, 2) promoting collegiate ministry through Soularium training and practicums, and 3) assisting church plants in groundwork for launching churches. Invigorate Team members will be 1) equipped to share their faith effectively, 2) trained to facilitate and manage mission teams and projects, and 3) discipled within a hands-on group learning environment. If you or one of your students is interested in participating in the 2012 Invigorate Team, please see the OCM site (www.ohiocollegiate.com) for more details or contact Brian Frye directly (bfrye@scbo.org.)

Ray E. Roberts…Ohio’s Premier Missionary The Man for Whom the Ohio State Missions Offering Is Named

Dr. Roberts’ Dream. . . a Baptist church in every community in the state. In his first message to the White Water Baptist Association, he said, “It is my deep conviction that the ripest field for Southern Baptist work . . . lies within the boundaries of Ohio. There are no geographical boundaries in the Great Commission.” 1915-1988
