The Next Factor
The State Convention of Baptists in Ohio (SCBO) is finalizing the details of a powerful new initiative called the Next Factor. It represents a balanced approach to combining quality resources, training, personnel, and relational opportunities: all of which will allow the SCBO Staff to collaborate with churches like never before. The purpose of the Next Factor initiative is to strengthen churches throughout Ohio in the following areas:
Presenting Christ Helping to make the Gospel of Jesus Christ known and understood by all people.
➧
Promoting Growth Joining with local congregations to develop more and better disciples of Jesus.
➧
Planting Churches Supporting the spiritual and practical needs of new churches seeking to impact a community for Christ.
This initiative seeks to ignite a spark of excitement and passion within each church of the State Convention of Baptists in Ohio so they may discover their Next Factor - a single, purposeful step that the church can make in obeying the Great Commission. Church Initiative
What does it take to be a sponsoring church? A desire to share the Word of God: “I came to understand, it’s not how many people who hear my voice on Sunday, it’s how many people hear His voice” ~ Sponsoring church pastor A willingness to invest in the life and family of a church planter: “I need someone I can call; it gets lonely planting a church. I want someone to bounce ideas off of, a sounding board, someone willing to share their experience with me.” ~ Church Planter
A kingdom spirit to give sacrificially their people, resources, and energy for those who have not yet come. “Our church is looking more and more like the New Testament norm, there is a sense of excitement and joy. We are working together for the gospel. Birthing something new is contagious.” ~ Sponsoring Church Member
Will you pray about becoming a sponsoring church?
Sponsoring Church Initiative – 25% of Mission Ohio Churches significantly involved in church planting by 2020. (Currently 12% of SCBO “It is so special when the sponsoring church pastor’s churches are involved in church planting… wife comes occasionally and takes my wife to lunch. 4% SBC nationally) Three or four times a year our sponsoring church provides childcare and money for a date night.” For more information contact Steve Hopkins. ~ Church Planter SteveHopkins@scbo.org or 614-827-1820

Church Planting
is one of the most effective ways of reaching the greatest number of people for Christ in a given geographical area! The Church Planting Resource Group will strive to start churches in the cities, suburbs, and rural areas. We will endeavor to start various types of churches to reach various types of people groups. To receive answers to your church planting questions and to understand how to be more personally involved in church planting in Ohio call or email any of the members of the Church Planting Resource Group of the State Convention of Baptists in Ohio.
BASIC TRAINING
FOR CHURCH PLANTERS IS OFFERED ONLINE. New Church Planters need and welcome good training. Now you can get your training online at your own pace on missionohio.e-quip.net. All 16 of the sessions are on the Church Planting section of this educational site. Each session is LESS than 30 minutes long. You will need a workbook to use as you view each session. Contact the Church Planting office to request a workbook. Planters who have already been through Basic Training will also benefit from this website by reviewing the sessions as you continue your church planting journey. Also, at the same link you will find other video training sessions, testimonies, and learning opportunities for all church planters.
Go to missionohio.e-quip.net and hit the Church Planting link!

CHURCH PLANTERS Forum MAY 29 & 30, 2014 COLUMBUS, OHIO
(Exact location will be forthcoming)
This will be the fifth year for the Church Planter’s Forum. This event is offered to church planters and wives who are within the first four years of their plant. Each year we are thrilled with the response received from planters and their wives who attend the Forum. Planters from all over Ohio - from big cities to small towns, from the burbs to rural areas, planters from various ethnic groups, all gather to learn from each other. The Forum is full of worship, praise, testimonies,
celebration, break-out sessions, prayer times, encouragement, sharing, and learning from those who know exactly what you are experiencing – other planters. At the Forum planters and their wives find confirmation and leave feeling encouraged, re-energized, and excited to get back on the field ready to try out some new ideas.
Planters, if you don’t do it for yourself, do it for your wife! The wives have their own break-out sessions. This is a wonderful opportunity for them to meet each other, make new friends, and become a support group for one another. As always, the lodging and meals will be paid for by the Cooperative Program funds. For more information, or to register, contact Charlotte Barbo at cbarbo@scbo.org or 614-827-1804.

The vision of the God’s Plan for Sharing (GPS) initiative is to fulfill the Great Commission in North America by Every Believer Sharing. Ever Person Hearing by 2020. God is working in the hearts of those who know Him and those who have yet to know Him.
GPS IS A TWO-PART PROCESS. 1. First, churches intentionally align their evangelism ministry according to the biblical components of: • Praying- Every church praying for every lost person • Equipping- Equipping every believer to share as a trained witness • Sowing- Every lost person receiving a witness • Harvesting- Every church harvesting and celebrating every salvation response 2. Second, churches participate in bi-annual evangelism campaigns (even-numbered years) that will result in Every Believer Sharing and Every Person Hearing by 2020.

The campaign for 2014 is called Serving Across North America and involves planning and implementing coordinated, serving, evangelistic events during the month of March and beyond. The theme for 2014 is Purpose. Find It Here. Churches are encouraged to direct people to findithere.com for spiritual help. The GPS manual (available online) will guide you in forming a simple, strategic plan for implementing a serving, evangelistic event in your community. The needs of each community are unique, and you know best the needs of your community. Adapt the information provided to suit your unique community. Ideas and resources are available on the GPS website at GPS2020.net. These resources are offered free of charge through the partnership between the North American Mission Board and your state convention and the funds provided through the Cooperative Program. Also, know that your Acts 1:8 partners (your association, your state convention, and the North American Mission Board) are ready to assist you in training and consultation as you have need.
