Welcome to The Lantern Plus! You are reading volume one, number one of The Lantern Plus, ASB’s newest digital publication. The Lantern Plus will give our community – students, parents, teachers, administrators, board members, and alumni – a space to showcase student work and to share what goes on in our classrooms and in our extra-curricular school life. It will also allow us to explore important issues related to teaching and learning. Our aim is to publish quarterly, alternating between an emphasis on primary school (the ECC and Elementary School) and secondary school (Middle and High School), with the occasional issue that has a school-wide focus. This first issue centers on ECC and the Elementary School and the theme is “integrated projects” - proj-

First of all, ASB English teacher Melissa Leighty, who wrote the main article and the interview. Melissa is passionate about writing and jumped at the opportunity to contribute to The Lantern Plus. I would also like to thank the ECC and Elementary School division leaders, Cristina Torrengo and Nancy Boyd, for advising us on this issue’s theme and for commenting on the contents of the articles. Greehy, Lynda Johnson, Maaian Zelman and Sue Metzger contributed valuable comments. José Manuel Calahorra provided us with important technical advice. Grade twelve student Jakub Stein volunteered many hours work on the template and layout. Elena Gutierrez translated everything from English to Spanish. Finally, we would like to thank ASB Director Mark Pingitore for encouraging us to embark on this exciting journey and for his valuable comments on the form and content. We hope you enjoy The Lantern Plus and encourage your family and friends to read it too! And to pique your curiosity, our next issue, to be published later in the spring, will focus on the secondary school and the theme will be “Preparing Global Leaders”. v -Robin Berting
