ALL ARE WELCOME! At Dallas Theater Center, we want to be the best place to work and see theater, and to be a positive and transformational force in Dallas and beyond. We stand-up for equity, diversity, and inclusion across our company and community. As a leading national theater, we recognize that building an equitable, diverse, and inclusive environment is central to our relevance and sustainability in the community we serve and love.
DALLAS THEATER CENTER EQUITY, DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION STATEMENT
We acknowledge the land beneath our feet as the ancestral home of many Indigenous Peoples including the Caddo, Wichita, Tawakoni, and Kiikaapoi, as well as the tribes that may have lived here and roamed the area –including Comanche, Kiowa and Apache – and those indigenous people whose names we don’t know anymore. We honor, revere and respect those who were stewards of this land long before we made it our home. We also acknowledge the neighborhood we inhabit as one of the original Freedman’s towns of Dallas built by those who were enslaved by European colonization.

Things got in the way: Lucy criticized every word of text, Woodstock needed caretaking, Snoopy suffered writer’s block. But this simple sentence sets the perfect mood for what you are about to see live on stage. Clue is a homage to both the beloved board game of our childhoods, and the 1985 movie of the same name.
As a child growing up in the suburbs of Los Angeles, I remember playing the board game of Clue with my friends after school. I remember the little miniature weapons that I believe were made of real metal back then , the color coordinated pawns that you moved around the board after you rolled the die, and the classic game board with the rooms of the mansion laid out before you; the Billiard Room, the Study, the Conservatory. I remember saying the iconic phrase, “It was Professor Plum, in the Library, with the Lead Pipe!” It had mystery, intrigue and it was so much fun.
“IT WAS A DARK AND STORMY NIGHT...”
For those of you who remember the old “Peanuts” comic strip, this was how Snoopy started his great American novel. He never got very far after this.
Clue the play has these same elements of mystery, intrigue and fun, and by the end of our 90 minute whodunit you will know exactly who did it! The show is filled with madcap mayhem, lots of physical comedy, and fast paced dialogue. I was so excited when I heard that Clue was the show that I would be making my Dallas Theatre Center debut. I love comedy. I love hearing an audience all erupt at the same time. Laughing is infectious. It can heal the soul. But comedy is difficult. There is a famous quote that goes, “Dying is easy. Comedy is hard.” During our rehearsal process, we explored everything from Commedia dell’arte (a classical form of comic theatre that originated in Italy in the 16th century) to vaudeville to clowning. We hope you enjoy the results.

FROM THE DIRECTOR
Clue is set in 1954 in the Washington, DC area during the height of the Joseph McCarthy witch hunt trials to weed out Communists. Many people were falsely accused. Many lives were shattered. It is in this world of fear mongering and paranoia that our play begins.

In 2009, with the generous support of Diane and Hal Brierley, Artistic Director Kevin Moriarty reinstated Dallas Theater Center’s resident acting company. His intent was to develop and nurture professional actors within the North Texas community and enable them to make Dallas their artistic home. At the same time, he sought to enhance Dallas Theater Center’s artistic profile and create ongoing collaborative relationships.
The twelve-member Diane and Hal Brierley Resident Acting Company has since become a signature component of Dallas Theater Center’s presence in the Dallas Arts District.
