dining The resort has a choice of four restaurants the Michelin starred, Martin Wishart at Loch Lomond is a must. The world renowned Michelin star Chef has created a stunning restaurant with views onto Loch Lomond serving a modern French style of cooking complimented with an expertly selected wine list. The Cameron Grill stylish and informal, with the emphasis on Scotland’s larder of fresh produce, this is the main restaurant; the menu has been created using delights from Scotland’s larder, expertly prepared and served in an unpretentious manner. The open feature kitchen, butchery and walk-in wine cellar ensure a real theatre experience. The Boat House - The Boat House décor is a nod to New England style, with an open kitchen and wood-burning oven, offering a friendly dining experience. Located at the marina on the water’s edge, you can enjoy the amazing views over the loch from the restaurant or outside on our large decking area. A wide range of local seafood and great meat dishes are available along with our famous stone baked Pizza. We also offer a great Boathouse Breakfast, giving a novel twist on the traditional with waffles and pancakes on the menu. The Claret Jug - Apart from providing golfers with the ideal ambience to gather and refuel in style after a round of golf, The Claret Jug also serves a choice of delights all day long - from light bites to classic favorite dishes - making it much more than a clubhouse with an impressive restaurant and breathtaking views over the golf course. And to the lounges and bars - for dram lovers, the Whisky Bar boasts a selection of over 260 different whiskies, including 17 limited editions and the Great Scots bar impressive space housing beautiful pewter topped bar with gigantic windows using the Loch as a backdrop and decorated with images of inspiring Scottish legends.

Loch Lomond – The Great Escape Trevor Lang sees Loch Lomond as ‘a great escape’ from the pressures of running the Cumbernauld-based family safety equipment business, Suresafe. It’s the place where he dreams of emulating four-time World champion wakeboarder Shaun Murray as he snaps the covers off his Seadoo 230 Wake powerboat which is berthed at Cameron House Marina. ALL ABOARD: The Lang family and friends

It’s the place he recently chose to celebrate his birthday with wife, Pamela, and it’s the place where his five-yearold daughter, Amber, hooked a 16lb salmon the second time she ever held a fishing rod. For Trevor, who lives in Glasgow with Pamela, Amber, and two-year-old son, Brodie, the convenience of being within 30 minutes of some of the very best countryside in Scotland is unbeatable: “Towing and launching the boat would waste at least half a day before you got anywhere. With a berth at the marina we can jump in the car and be out on the loch in under an hour. “It’s a great thing for us to do as a family and the facilities and services at Cameron House Marina are second to none. “It is secure, there are showers and toilets, plus you have the back up of Paul, the manager, and his team if you need it. “Of course there is a cost involved but I think it is well worth it – it definitely outweighs the hassle of the alternatives.”

Trevor with daughter Amber’s 16lb salmon

Trevor also has corporate membership of The Carrick golf course and the family are Cameron Club members. “The Carrick is a fabulous golf course – ideal for corporate events and entertaining – I really can’t see past it.”

SCOTTISH Michelin star chef Martin Wishart opened his restaurant at Loch Lomond in 2008. Any restaurant set amongst the iconic, commanding scenery of the Highlands, in particular world-renowned Loch Lomond, is surely duty-bound to match its grandeur. The restaurant is situated within the eye-catching Cameron House, menus are designed by Martin and he visits regularly to ensure standards are maintained. The front-of-house staff provide service with an effortless yet highly personable charm. Spearheading the kitchen after working with Martin Wishart for over three years, is head chef, Graeme Cheevers. Like his mentor, Graeme has a passion for contemporary cooking which

incorporates elements of classic French cuisine and uses the finest local produce. The restaurant has been awarded a Michelin star in 2011 and 3 AA rosettes. Christian, our charming operations manager, will be delighted to welcome you to the restaurant.

Come and try it – we are open Wednesday to Sunday for dinner – and on Saturday and Sunday for lunch. The a la carte and £75 tasting menu is available at lunch and dinner. On Saturday and Sunday we also have, a three course lunch menu for only £28.50.

Out and About There’s lots to see and do around the Loch Lomond area including a range of land and water-based outdoor activities such as cycling, canoeing, hillwalking, horse riding, jet-skiing, kayaking, pony trekking, rowing, water-skiing, wake-boarding and windsurfing. The village of Balloch at the south end of Loch Lomond is a popular tourist destination and has a selection of cafés, restaurants and pubs. It has a visitor information centre in the old station building and is home to Balloch Castle Country Park and its castle. Loch Lomond Shores, in Balloch, combines shopping and leisure activities in a stunning location. There’s a House of Fraser department store as well as a number of other retailers in the mall, a Sealife Centre, a Bird of Prey Centre and the National Park Gateway Centre where you can access woodland trails. The restored paddle steamer, the Maid of the Loch, is moored at Balloch Pier. Inchmurrin is the largest island on Loch Lomond and has a hotel with restaurant, bar and function suite, as well as self-catering accommodation. It is the site of the ruined Lennox Castle, is said to have links to Robert the Bruce, to King James VI of Scotland and I of England and to Mary Queen of Scots. It also has its own naturist colony. The island’s owners operate a ferry service from a jetty at Arden.

The picturesque conservation village of Luss off the A82 is very popular with visitors. Its pier offers some of the best views of the loch and of Ben Lomond on the opposite shore. It is the ancestral home of Clan Colquhoun and has close associations with St Kessog, an early Christian martyr. Balmaha, on the east side of Loch Lomond, has a national park visitor centre were you can learn about local wildlife, history and geology with a national park ranger or take a walk among the oak woods on the Millennium Forest Path. If you’re looking for something more challenging, there’s a path from Balmaha car park leading to Conic Hill, which is on the Highland Boundary Fault. A two to three hour walk is rewarded with spectacular views of Loch Lomond and its islands. Rowardennan is at the foot of Ben Lomond – a Munro – or Scottish mountain over 3,000 feet. The 360 degree view from its summit on a clear day is stunning. The West Highland Way passes through the village. It can be reached by boat to the small pier or by car via Balmaha on the east shore. There is a hotel, a youth hostel and a caravan/campsite at Cashel. Inversnaid, on the east side of the loch, is easiest accessed by boat from Inveruglas off the A82 on the west where a passenger ferry operates from March till November. It is reputed to be the site of Rob Roy’s cave which is best seen from the loch. There are wild goats in this area.

Some of the elevated holes offer spectacular views of Loch Lomond to the west and Ben Lomond to the north, providing not only stimulating and challenging golf, but some breathtaking photo opportunities - none more so than the elevated tee 80ft above the green at the signature hole, the 199-yard, par 3, 14th called ‘Tappet Doon’. The Celtic Warrior Board the Celtic Warrior at Cameron House Marina and within minutes you are cruising majestic Loch Lomond sipping chilled champagne with the wind in your hair. Hear about the real Rob Roy, about St Kessog, of the Viking raids in the thirteenth century, and of the clans whose descendants still live in the area today. There’s no better way to appreciate the beauty of Loch Lomond, its many islands and its historic links with Scotland’s past as you cross the geological boundary fault line which separates the Scottish Lowlands from the more rugged Highlands. Look out for the elusive wallabies and for Scotland’s rarest bird, the grouse-like capercaillie, on Inchconnachan island, and maybe even glimpse one of the area’s rare white fallow deer or the more common native roe and red deer swimming in the loch. Loch Lomond is the largest body of freshwater by surface area in mainland Britain and surely one of the most beautiful. It is celebrated in art, literature, poetry and song. It is 24 miles long, five miles at its widest, has an average depth of just over 120 feet, and is 623 feet at its deepest. It has at least 30 islands, depending on the water level, Inchmurrin being one of the largest in a body of freshwater in the British Isles. The Celtic Warrior’s captain and steward will guide you through its waters, pointing out places of interest including the best spots for fishing and other water and land-based activities. Sixty glorious minutes later, you’re back at the marina invigorated and ready for lunch or dinner in The Boathouse. There are scheduled cruises three times a day with more during busy periods in the summer subject to demand. Sunset evening cruises undertaken on request. Private charters are available and are popular for weddings and other special occasions. Call 01389 722508 or email resortservices@cameronhouse.co.uk for more information or to book your trip.

Loch Lomond ‘one of the busiest and most highly visited areas of the national park’ AT its deepest Loch Lomond is 623 feet – the equivalent of 45 double-decker buses – and is the largest body of freshwater in mainland Britain. It has more types of fish than any other loch in Scotland including trout, salmon, sea-trout, pike, and the rare powan, which is a protected species. Loch Lomond & The Trossachs was Scotland’s first national park when it was created in July 2002 to safeguard an area of 720sq miles, some of which was coming under severe visitor and recreational pressures. All motorised craft on Loch Lomond must be registered with the park authority and display a registration number. There are more than 7,500 registered boats, including jet skis, and the Loch Lomond water team deals with one of the busiest and most highly visited areas of the national park. Water-based rangers patrol the loch, enforcing bylaws and ensuring the safety of loch users. They also patrol and monitor the islands, offering advice to visitors who wish to camp and visit there.

In addition, ranger staff manage the Duncan Mills Memorial Slipway at Balloch which is the main boat launching facility for Loch Lomond. The land-based team patrols an area from Balloch to Tarbet along the busy A82 taking in popular visitor spots such as Duck Bay, Luss, Firkin and Tarbet. There are six water-based rangers, three patrol boats and two work boats on the loch. National park staff want every visitor to enjoy themselves and avoid circumstances where activities may be unsafe or cause disruption to others. In addition to their local responsibilities, rangers help to: •

Manage visitors, including wild campers, in accordance with guidelines set out in the Scottish Outdoor Access Code, and advise visitors on the bylaws relevant to the particular needs of the park;

•

Provide education and events throughout the year, including engaging regularly with schools, university and minority groups, promoting ecoschools, publicising the access code and encouraging experiential learning.

For more information about registration, contact the rangers at the Duncan Mills Memorial Slipway, Balloch, email boatregistration@lochlomond-trossachs.org or call 01389 722030. www.lochlomond-trossachs.org

Guidance Notes These guidance notes have been prepared to assist berth holders and visitors in the safe berthing of their boats whilst moored at Cameron House Marina.

Mooring Lines & Fendering: We recommend that good quality multi-plait rope is used for the mooring of vessels. Where possible please do not use old halyards or sheets for mooring lines and never use polypropolene rope as this type of rope offers very poor holding strength. From time-to-time it may be necessary to place additional lines on your boat; accordingly two spare mooring lines of suitable length and diameter for the boat should be kept in an accessible place for marina staff use. Fenders should be secured to a strong point on the boat and attached using at least 8mm Ø multi-plait rope or similar. We would recommend the use of the cylindrical style of fender (as opposed to the round type) as these offer better protection in a marina environment. The following table provides an outline of the minimum line diameters and fender requirements for a given size of yacht. Pre-spliced braided dock lines can be bought from the marina office in 10mm and 12mm diameters. Marina management kindly ask boat owners not to fix additional fendering to the pontoon structure. Should you wish to attach a bow/stern fender to your berth please speak to the marina manager on how best to do this. Please note that while we regularly check boats in the marina, we cannot accept responsibility for any damage resulting from inadequate mooring.

Cleats and Fairleads: The most common reasons for mooring failure is as a result of chafe to mooring lines and a failure of the mooring point. Fairleads and cleats should be checked to ensure they are strong enough for the task in hand and that there are no sharp edges which may prompt the chafing of lines. To prevent chafing we would recommend that chafe protectors are fitted to those lines which may be susceptible to chafe and that mooring lines are inspected regularly (particularly if your boat is afloat during the winter). Owners may wish to fit ‘snubbers’ to their mooring lines which can assist in reducing the impact of shock loads on the boat.

Berthing: Diagrams on the opposite page show the preferred method for mooring your boat at Cameron House Marina. Alongside Berthing Lines: 1. Bow line 2. Bow spring line 3. Stern spring 4. Stern breast Line temporary lines which may be added
