THIS PROPOSAL IS OF A RANGER STATION IN BOTSWANA, FOR THE PEOPLE WHO PUT THEIR LIVES ON THE LINE PROTECTING AND OBSERVING RHINOS RELOCATED TO THE AREA. THE DESIGN IS FOR A SHELTER THAT ENCOURAGES AND IMPROVES THE LIVES OF RANGERS AS WELL AS THEIR WORK SUCCESS. IN EXPECTATION THAT THE STATION WILL EDUCATE AND INSPIRE PEOPLE TO AID IN ENDING THE POACHING CRISIS. THESIS STATEMENT: DOES ARCHITECTURE HAVE THE ABILITY TO ASSIMILATE WITH NATURE WHILE SUPPORTING ITS USER AND IMPOSING A STRONG INFLUENCE OVER ITS SURROUNDING ENVIRONMENT?

WATER RESEARCH IN THE OKAVANGO DELTA FORMATION OF ISLANDS IN DELTA
ISLANDS ARE FORMED IN THE DELTA DUE TO AN EVAPORATIVE PROCESS THAT HAPPENS THAT LEAVES SALT TO FORM LAND MOUNDS. THESE ARE VISIBLE FROM ABOVE DUE TO THE RING OF JUNGLE LIKE PLANTINGS AROUND A WHITE PATCH. THE REMAINING WATER SINKS DUE TO DENSITY AND IS DILUTED. THIS WATER IS TYPICALLY SAFE TO DRINK.

ADJUSTMENTS: -MAIN LODGE BUILDINGS ARRANGED AROUND BOMA (OUTDOOR GATHERING SPACE) -MAIN LODGE IS CONNECTED TO THE GROUND WHILE ALL OTHER BUILDINGS ARE LIFTED ALLOWING NATURE TO LIVE IN HARMONY WITH STATION
TREE GATHERING BECAUSE BUILDINGS ARE NOT VENTED WELL THEY BECOME TOO HOT TO BE IN DURING THE DAY. PEOPLE GATHER OUTSIDE UNDER TREES TO STAY COOL.
BOMA GATHERING
ANOTHER AREA FOR GATHERING IS THE BOMA. A SPACE THAT IS SHELTERED FROM THE WIND AND OPEN TO THE STARS.
BUILDING
THE BUILDING TAKES THE FORM OF THE BOMA. SHELTERING A GATHERING SPACE FROM THE WIND AND WRAPPING AROUND A TREE.
SECTION
THE LOUNGE AND THE VETS OFFICE FACE EACHOTHER WHILE OVER LOOKING THE BOMA.
EARTH TUNNEL HEATING EARTH TUNNELS RUN UNDER THE GROUND AND NATURALLY VENTILATE THE BUILDINGS. DURING COOLER TIMES THE WIND IS WARMED BY THE EARTH.
EARTH TUNNEL COOLING WHEN IT’S WARMER OUT THE WIND IS COOLED BY THE EARTH BEFORE BEING RELEASED INTO THE BUILDINGS.
THERMAL WALLS DAY THE MAIN LODGE IS BUILT WITH RAMMED EARTH WALLS THAT ABSORB HEAT DURING THE DAY.
THERMAL WALLS NIGHT AT NIGHT THE HEAT IS THEN RELEASED INTO THE BUILDINGS.

THE TOWER MARKS THE INTERSECTION OF EVERYONE AT THE STATION. THE PATHS FROM THE DIFFERENT SLEEPING UNITS AND THE LODGE MEET HERE. EACH LEVEL OF THE TOWER HAS A FUNCTION, THE FIRST TWO LEVELS ARE SPACES OF GATHERING AND OSERVING LIFE WITHIN THE TREES. THE THIRD LEVEL IS WHERE THE WATER TANK IS SITUATED. AND THE FOURTH LEVEL IS FOR OBSERVATION OF THE DELTA, CLEAR ABOVE THE TREES. LARGER GATHERINGS AND POSSIBLE SMALL MEALS COULD BE HAD HERE AS WELL.

THE RANGERS AND STAFF HAVE THEIR OWN CLUSTER FOR HOUSING. THIS CREATES A SPACE FOR THEM TO GATHER AWAY FROM GUEST. EACH RANGER UNIT HOUSES 4 RANGERS. THE MANAGER HAS A HUT TO THEM SELF. ALL STAFF SHARES A COMMON BATHROOM HUT THAT HAS SOLAR PANELS FOR COLLECTING ENERGY.
WATER FILTRATION BEING A SITE THAT IS OFF THE GRID, ALL WATER HAS TO BE GATHERED AND TREATED ON SITE. THIS SITE USES REVERSE OSMOSIS TO FILTER THE WATER FOR USE. THE WASTE HAS TO BE FILTERED AS WELL BEFORE BEING RETURNED TO THE GROUND. THE BOREHOLE IS CAPABLE OF PULLING ENOUGH WATER FROM THE AQUIFER FOR THE STATION. IN THE TOWER A WATER TANK SITS THAT CAN HOLD ENOUGH WATER FOR 2 DAYS WITH THE STATION AT FULL CAPACITY. AFTER THE WATER IS USED, IT IS BROUGHT BACK TO THE FILTRATION BUILDING THAT ACTS AS A LIVING MACHINE. THE WATER IS MOVED THROUGH A SERIES OF DIFFERENT TANKS THAT FILTER THE WATER BEFORE IT IS RETURNED TO THE EARTH. REVERSE OSMOSIS FILTERS

SAVE-CEROS A RANGER STATION IN THE OKAVANGO DELTA, BOTSWANA. A PLACE THAT BRINGS TOGETHER PEOPLE AND ORGANIZATIONS, THAT HAVE SIMILAR GOALS, TO WORK TOGETHER AND STRONGER. A PLACE THAT FORMS A COMMUNITY IN THE BUSH. BRINGING DIFFERENT TRADITIONS, LANGUAGES AND CULTURES INTO ONE HOME. A PLACE THAT NOT ONLY PROTECTS NATURE BUT ALSO CONNECTS PEOPLE WITH NATURE. A PLACE THAT LEAVES YOU WONDERING... ...WHAT ELSE CAN WE DO TO SAVE THE RHINO? ...WHAT ELSE CAN WE DO TO SAVE THE HORN?”
