TOM CAVANAGH
Director at EMS Group Pty Ltd, Founder Channel 40. “EMS does a lot of business in Sydney, we have an office in Sydney. To get from one part of Sydney to the other is just absolute chaos. In Dubbo I can be at work, the kid’s school or at home all within 10 minutes. It’s a competitive advantage. We’re on 20 acres of land in Dubbo and the equivalent cost of land would probably buy you half an acre or less in Sydney. So what we’ve done and what we’ve built with a huge shed and all of these facilities is because it’s affordable. The fact that we have trucks driving through Dubbo all of the time means freight is easy. Housings affordable and it’s a great place to live. For us, it’s our secret weapon.”

NEW & EMERGING INDUSTRY
RAIL
MINING
Regional rail projects currently proposed present a once-in-ageneration infrastructure based opportunity, including Inland Rail and the Regional Rail Maintenance Facility.
Australia’s largest and most advanced new rare earths and high-performance metals mine, the $1.3billion Dubbo Project, has been approved within the Dubbo Region.
The Dubbo Region is perfectly positioned to take advantage of the complimentary supply chain investments that will result from this $10.9 billion Inland Rail project, which is expected to boost Australia’s GDP by $16 billion over the next 50 years. Coupled with Dubbo being earmarked as the preferred location for the new rail maintenance facility for NSW Trainlink, the region’s connectivity will be unrivalled.
Traditionally, Dubbo has been a nonmining town that has successfully provided services to significant underground operations in the surrounding Orana Region. As an established industry within the Orana Region, mining contributes $24.509 million in output to the Orana Region’s GRP.
The projects have a number of complimentary elements which will allow for a focus on local jobs and skills providing sustainable economic growth and job creation for the Region.
