he colour team at Dulux has been exploring Colour Trends for over 18 years. It’s been such a journey, and incredible to look back over the early beginnings of our work, from the year 2000 through to today. Colour has really enjoyed a resurgence over the past few years, and the way we use colour has evolved. The eclectic combinations of colour used in residential and commercial spaces reveal our growing confidence with colour as a tool for design expression. And, considering the impact colour can have on our wellbeing and emotions, it’s clear to see why it is such an integral part of any design concept. It’s exciting to see more and more colour professionals and home enthusiasts embracing colour in their spaces. We hope you enjoy the exciting colour journey that the Dulux Colour Trends 2018 presents. This year’s theme is ‘Balance’. A sense of balance is desired in many areas of life, whether it be work-life balance or a sense of well being. With future interiors in mind, the idea of balance is crucial to ensure we live and work in harmonious spaces that help to stimulate our senses, as well as enable us to relax and retreat. As Dulux’s New Zealand Colour Specialist, Davina is fascinated by the constant evolution of colour in response to shifting social influences. In collaboration with Andrea and Bree, Davina applies her interior and colour design expertise to help shape the Dulux Colour Trends 2018. She is passionate about New Zealand design and excited to see local designers represented in this year’s colour trends. “My favourite trend this year is Escapade because of the playful colour combinations,” she says. Her top colour choices: Dulux Sassy and Beige Artefacts.

Lisa Cohen is an Australian-based photographer specialising in interiors, food, lifestyle and still life. Growing up in a family containing three generations of architects, it was only natural that Lisa developed a love for interiors and design. This led her to London, where she worked as a concept stylist on interiors magazines, before moving into photography. Since then Lisa has been shooting interiors, food and lifestyle images for large national brands, small independent clients and magazines worldwide.

Interior stylist and writer Michelle Halford, founded her blog, The Design Chaser, in 2012. With a focus on Scandinavian interiors, she reports on current trends, shares inspiring projects and collaborates with local and international brands. Her global following has seen her social accounts become among the most popular in the design world. She was named “pinner to follow” by the Huffington Post. For this year’s colour trends we asked Michelle to re-create the Kinship look for an everyday living space.

As Dulux Australia’s Colour & Communications Manager, Andrea Lucena-Orr researches colour trends, presenting her findings to trade and retail markets, and media. Travelling to Milan Design Week, Andrea with Davina and Bree solidified their concepts and insights for the Dulux Colour Trends 2018. “I adore working with colour and experimenting with unusual colour combinations and textures,” Andrea says. “Colour has an amazing power to transform spaces and I love the emotional connections you can create through the personalising of colour schemes.” Andrea highlights Reflect as her top Dulux Colour Trend. “The rich and moody colour combinations used in this trend offer up some exciting opportunities for new colour expression in our home spaces,” she says.

From a young age, Bruce Summers loved all things design, furniture and homewares. With 10+ years in the industry, he decided to apply his experience to his passion for industrial product design. As Design Manager for Country Road Home, he covers everything from setting initial design directions to identifying new products and category opportunities. He oversees product design processes, visual merchandising, styling and marketing. For this year’s colour trends, Bruce gets creative with the Essential trend.

For Pip, selling beautiful things is in her blood. From a young age, she filled her weekends with selling picked flowers, pastel drawings, pikelets and cordial to passer-buyers. While she studied fashion and textile design in Sydney, the pull back to Orange, NSW, proved too strong. At age 22 Pip opened Iglou store, later followed by Jumbled. Jumbled sells an eclectic mix of homewares. “It is pretty much everything I love and want for myself, all located under the one roof,” she says. For this year’s colour trends, Pip re-imagines the Escapade trend.

Heather Nette King's love of colour has had a strong influence on her work as an interiors stylist and writer. She works with bold, unique colour combinations and loves inspiring others to do the same. Heather’s work is seen in leading interior titles and newspapers and she creates visual imagery for many of Australia’s most popular interiors brands. Her work has also been published internationally, and her own home has been featured in international style bible, Elle Decoration UK. For this year’s colour trends, Heather shows us how she would create the Reflect look in her home.
