Arthur’s selfie with President Biden

ArTH ur McAlevey waited three hours in the rain hoping to get a glimpse of President Joseph biden but the Castle Park resident got more than he bargained for when he received a handshake and a selfie from the us leader.

President biden met with distant cousins John Owen Finnegan and Councillor Andrea Mcevitt – as well as other local politicians at The Windsor.

“My mother, Maureen McGeough nee Mc elroy, spoke with him. They had a nice con- nection, a nice moment together. They were speaking about bereavements,” said Donal.

“He’s a sincere man, a nice man. After he finished making his speech, he spent his time taking selfies, shaking hands and there was a bit of singing too.

“The whole thing was very enjoyable. it was momentous and historic.”

Arthur had got word that the President was going to visit the Food House on Clanbrassil street in Dundalk and so he made his way onto Dundalk’s main street at around 4:30 taking up position at the barrier directly across from McAteers. That strategy paid dividends for Arthur who spent 44 years serving with the reserve Defence Force with the President’s car (known as The beast) stopping directly in front of him.

“i couldn’t have picked a better spot to be honest,” said Arthur. “He got out of The beast which had stopped directly in front of me and i gave him a salute before telling him he was very welcome to Dundalk. He saluted in return and shook my hand. so i can say i was the first person in Dundalk that President biden shook hands with,” laughed Arthur.

“i was delighted to have got to see him but i got another wee surprise a few minutes later after he had gone on a bit of a walkabout. He came back to me and asked me to give him my camera and he proceeded to take a selfie of the two us. i couldn’t believe it. He comes across as a very genuine guy and it was fantastic for the town to have him visit. i have the picture on my phone and the plan is to get it printed out and put in a frame. it was a real buzz and my phone has been hopping for the past few days with
