“i’m taking on a walking challenge with a difference on Friday, 21st of April. i’m going to walk for a full eighthour shift,” said brian.
“i will also be joined by colleagues for different times, to keep me motivated. i’ve run marathons before but i’ve never walked for eight hours continuously.
The event is in aid of staff Charities, who are supporting two charities this year, Childvision and the Gavin Glynn Foundation.
“This is a slightly different challenge for me. staff Charities was founded in 1996 by irish Life and Canada Life in 1996,” said brian.
“every year staff nominate charities to be supported by fundraising efforts. Around 60 to 8o charities are nominated and then it is narrowed down to two final charities.
“This year the staff voted to support the Gavin Glynn
Foundation which i nominated. It’s the first time a charity nominated by a Dundalk worker has been chosen.”
He added: “The second charity we are supporting this year is Child Vision. i nominated the Gavin Glynn Foundation because it’s a charity my family think a lot of.
“Gavin Glynn died of cancer at the age of four and the charity was set up by his parents in his memory.
“it helps to support families with the costs associated with cancer treatment or other serious illnesses.” brian concluded: “since 1996 when staff Charities was founded, it has raised €4.5 million for good causes.
“i’ll be starting the charity walk at 8am on Friday, 21
April and I will be finishing at 4pm. i’ll start out from the Dundalk Irish Life office and head up to the lights at Xerox and take a right towards DkiT and then do a loop back to the office.” you can support brian by going to his GoFundMe page at https://www.gofundme.com.
