TIMELINES FOR RENOVATIONS
S
tarting a new home project can be a significant undertaking. Timing is a big consideration for planning remodeling or renovation projects. When working with contractors, homeowners can rest easy knowing the project will be completed promptly. Experts say some general timelines can help homeowners plan the next project.
• Home addition: The average
time it takes for a home addition is between three and four months. Local experts say certain variables, including the scale of the project and the permits process, can extend the time it takes to complete an addition, so plan accordingly. • Kitchen remodel: Kitchen projects take as long as four months, though the average time is about six weeks. If a space requires major changes, like rearranging plumbing or walls, it will likely take longer than cosmetic projects that are limited to replacing cabinets and countertops.

• Bathroom remodel: From start to finish, bathroom remodels take almost five weeks. Small-scale remodels that focus on a fresh coat of paint or replacing existing tiles can be completed in less than two weeks. But similar to kitchen remodels, bathroom projects that involve moving or replacing plumbing fixtures will take longer. • Siding installation: Siding projects take roughly two weeks from start to finish. That estimate is the same regardless of the type of material homeowners are installing.
• Replacement windows:
Replacing windows can take roughly three weeks. But homeowners worried that they will be forced to brave the elements during the length of the project need not worry. Much of a contractors’ time during a window replacement will be spent on measuring and then securing the fit once the windows are installed.
