Mary’s Antiques in Greensboro
Mary Wells has been buying and selling on South Elm Street in Greensboro, NC for over 40 years. She is short but feisty, short but will lift anything, short but willing to deal and short but will help you locate anything! She has supplied décor for restaurants, hotes, clubs, furniture market showrooms and 168 grocery stores all over the US. Nearly 150 were personally delivered by her so that she could buy at shops, antique malls, barns and auctions all the way back to Greensboro. Meanwhile, her team at home worked to sell, clean and touch up pieces for the next delivery when they would load and
unload more Penske trucks. Her husband and daughter would sit at auctions practically every Friday and Saturday night while she had to decide whether or not to bid. Mary’s Antiques has specialized in unusual architectural items – mantels, doors, iron fencing and gates, fretwork and window shutters. The shop is also full of large and small furniture items – back bars, Victorian sideboards, golden oak dressers and desks, pine flat back cupboards. Small items such as print blocks and type, hundreds of old buttons, postcards, and alphabet letters. Shopping is an experience you will enjoy at Mary’s!
after four short months years ago. Ours is a common story – Dale’s health issues demanded that all projects like Pickers Pedals Passions & Blunders had to be put on the back burner. And my focus turned more towards teaching more kids traditional Chinese kung fu, which is the other side of my love for Asian history and cultural arts. Fast forward to present day and a small dedicated group of antique and collectible enthusiasts have stepped up to the plate to help us resurrect Pickers Pedals Passions & Blunders. We have a new look but we really haven’t changed. We’re still the same folks who walk into a barn battling raccoons and black rat snakes to go pickin’. We’re still the same folks who

International Literary Giants Are Among Us
While our peers American Pickers, American Restoration, Pawn Stars, and Antique Road Show on Cable TV and other publications like Garden & Guns, Architectural Digest, and Robb Report, Pickers, Pedals, Passions, and Blunders concentrates on the people who made our country great. Most every American has made a contribution to preserve our history from small ways recognition their on families possessions to seeing all segments of history are preserved through the written word. Many may have the talents of others to express pros that brings vivid images through word or talents of the brush with color and a few strokes or pickup use tool to express beauty. It has been said beauty is in the eyes of the beholder with total disregard to the number of eyes who seek and desire to be the holder. Fortunately I meet many people every day with special gifts and talents. But two literary giants who I have the met personally, both recognized in their own right. Aruthu Jones, pen name Triston
Jones, is a hero to most all well read sailors and and boaters. Triston is know for his courage sailing around the world writing about the water who I set knee-to-knee at the Annapolis Literary Giants continued next pg

folks who drool all over classic and antique automobiles as well as select choice items at different antique shows. So many people from everywhere have kept in contact with us over the years and we truly appreciated everyone’s encouragement and enthusiasm in resurrecting this e-zine. When Dale and I started it, it was a labor of love and much fun for us given other projects we had previously undertaken. We were so shocked at how many people from all across the globe contacted us wanting to know more about our unique business model. What was funny were some of the responses we got when we basically told people we really did not make money, were lucky to break even and that our magazine’s mission
was to provide service to others. Now that last phrase is very important and potent. There is no higher calling than to be of service to others. The small staff of people who now stand behind Pickers Pedals Passions & Blunders are dedicated enthusiasts who want to connect others. Thank you to everyone out there for your support many years ago and I hope you will give us a chance to win your hearts over once again. We need advertisers who want to get the word out about their businesses and we also need feedback from everyone as to how to make this a better publication. Now witness a beautiful Phoenix arising from the cold ashes of yesteryear. We promise it will be fun, too! - Renee Warren & Dale Swiggett

Dale Swiggett is the Publisher of Pickers Pedals Passions & Blunders. He grew up in the Triad area of NC and has backgrounds in textiles and real estate development. But his passions include history, travel, waterfront culture, and gets weak in the knees over classic automobiles. Renee Warren is the Editor of Pickers Pedals Passions & Blunders. She grew up around antiques and collectibles while living in both NC & SC but just wishes she had paid more attention to her grandmothers about their love of antiques and collectibles. Her favorite category is anything Asian or Oriental.

A Lions Head Greets My Guests
For those in the know of all things Asian, soon it will be time to usher in the Year of the Wood Sheep. The official Chinese New Year starts on February 19th this year and unlike our country’s traditional New Year the Asians follow a lunar calendar. So, I am thrilled to have received a truly wonderful and thoughtful holiday gift
from dear friends of mine. I nearly teared up once I unwrapped this magnificent colorful ceramic Chinese Lion holding a gold coin in his mouth, a very auspicious sign. This beauty now sits just inside my door to my home office, which faces my front door. The colors and the firing and glazing of the ceramic are absolutely gorgeous! So, as February 19th rolls around, be sure to go eat some good authentic Chinese food and tell your host, waiter, cashier, etc Gung Hay Fat Choy! (Cantonese) or Gong Xi Fa Cai! (Mandarin). And to say ‘thank you’ say Xie-xie (pronounced ‘shi-shi’). A few cultural traditions to celebrate the new lunar year are to eat very long noodles, wear red or brightly colored clothing, and of course, lots of good food, family, and friends. - Renee Warren
