Bahrain celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Bahrain International Airshow (BIAS), officially opened by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, on behalf of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. Thousands of aerospace and defense professionals from over 30 countries around the world connected at the 3-day event for partnership building, collaboration, and thought leadership.

Organized by the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications (MTT) and the Royal Bahraini Airforce, in association with Farnborough International, the show aims to engage, retain, and grow its world-class delegation program, providing exhibitors with a personal opportunity to network with high level VIP decision-makers.

The three-day event, which took place 9-11 November 2022, saw 186 participating companies across the display, exhibition hall and chalets and 200 civilian and military delegations taking part. The airshow followed on from Manama Air Power Symposium 2022, which brought together a highcaliber audience of over 300 air force commanders and operators, policymakers, and industry leaders from over 25 countries for the most important regional air power conference in 2022.

New deals and partnerships worth over USD 1.8 billion were announced at the show including the purchase of 30 of the latest-generation, single-aisle aircraft powered by Pratt & Whitney GTF engines by Royal Jordanian Airlines (“Royal Jordanian”), a strategic partnership between MAE Aircraft Management and Asia Cargo Network Singapore and Texel Air Bahrain and Sierra Nevada Corporation’s (SNC) new alliance.

Two dedicated conference theatres offered a

thought exchange platform, where senior aerospace executives from the Gulf region and international companies collaborated to bring issues of mutual interest to the fore. The program included panels and keynotes on four key themes: Airports and Airlines, Cargo and Logistics, Women in Aerospace and Space.

Each afternoon saw the skies above Sakhir Air Base flled with the world’s most renowned air display teams and aircraft, with showcases of the Gulf Air 787, RBAF, JF-17, Fursan Al Emarat, UAE Mirage 2000, RSAF Typhoon, USAF F-16 demo team, Global Stars, Red Arrows, DHL B767-300 Flypast, UAE F16, Saudi Hawks and P-8 fypast.

Harnessing a growth mindset, BIAS has undertaken a period of signifcant investment. With a ten-year track record of success, the 2022 Airshow included enhanced features across the three-day event, creating more opportunities for business, networking, growth, and knowledge sharing.

The With a conference lineup that discussed the future of airport and airlines, women in aviation, cargo and logistics and the space industry, the 2022 edition of BIAS saw globally renowned organizations gather at the Middle East’s gateway to the Gulf to plan for the future.

The growth in air passenger and cargo traffc in

the Middle East is expected to outperform those in all other regions in the world by 2032. To support this growth and regional focus, the 2022 airshow saw the launch of the Cargo Hub, which will facilitate the development of new partnerships and business connections, as well as share insight from industryleading professionals and exhibitors.

Over 150 companies exhibiting across the defense, space, business and aviation sectors, the boutique aerospace event offered visitors the opportunity to strengthen existing business connections and meet key with global senior decision makers and stakeholders of aerospace businesses.

To provide additional improvements to its frst-class experience, extensive investment and refurbishments have been made to the luxury airshow exhibitor chalets. The ready-built chalets are positioned adjacent to the static aircraft park and parallel to the runway, providing unrivalled views of both the static and fying display.

One of the most internationally renowned aircraft displays on the airshow circuit, BIAS hosted an impressive static showcase and daily fying displays featuring the latest in both military jets and commercial aircraft.

Cityscape Bahrain 2022 was held at a 9,500 sqm section of the exhibition center, with representatives of 60 real-estate companies exhibiting 10,000 investment opportunities in eight different counties. 10,000 visitors attended the exhibition, with a recorded sales volume of over USD265 million.

EWB also hosted Jewellery Arabia 2022, which was held on a 45,000 sqm area, with exhibitors from 30 countries representing major international companies and brands. USD887,757,629 worth of items were on exhibit, a 74% jump from the last exhibition, with sales also increasing by 20% this year to USD 64,284,026.13.

EWB also hosted the frst edition of Scent Arabia’s “The Perfume Expo”. The Expo was held on a 4,700 sqm area and featured 18 companies from fve countries.

‘Bint Al Bahrain’: A National Masterpiece

A living treasure of the Kingdom of Bahrain, pure bred Arabian horses have been bred on the island for over 200 years by the Royal Al Khalifa family. The concept was brought to life by PICO Bahrain and was supported by Bahrain Petroleum Company (BAPCO) and the Ministry of Works. ‘Bint Al Bahrain’ sculptures celebrate this breed of iconic horses, the senior leadership’s achievements in the equestrian feld, and their continuous support to the industry.

The seed for the project was planted at Mara’ee 2018, Bahrain’s biggest animal show, where organizers PICO displayed a scale model of the sculptures to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of Bahrain. The design features several creative elements, most notably a replica of Bahrain’s map set inside a pearlshaped perimeter, and a color palette featuring sand, gravel, stone, and pebbles. Within the perimeter is a colorful landscape in the shape of Bahrain’s map, while an elevated base structure resembles a desert look with stone and concrete fnish. The sculptures were placed in Riffa, which is considered to be the capital of the equestrian industry in the Kingdom.

The concept has received the great support of His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs, and Honorary President of Bahrain Royal Equestrian and Endurance Federation (BREEF). As the Royal Endurance Team Captain with a successful track record in endurance races, His Highness played a key role in making the project a reality. It comes as one of his many efforts to highlight Bahrain’s equestrian sports on a local, regional, and global scale.

To ensure that all safety precautions are taken and that the sculptures are installed without any issues, the Ministry of Works undertook the task of setting up the locations for the project. Under

the keen follow-up of the Minister of Works, HE Ibrahim bin Hassan Al-Hawaj, all project objectives were met within designated deadlines, adding a true work of beauty to public areas in the Kingdom.

Another key fgure behind ‘Bint Al Bahrain’ was Dr. Khalid Hasan, Director of Bahrain Royal Stable, who served as the project’s technical consultant. His extensive knowledge of horse breeds and traits proved to be a source of invaluable guidance. His passion for the project was immense, as the breed featured in the sculpture is one exclusive to Bahrain.

BAPCO, a regular supporter of national initiatives, sponsored the project, providing the

fnances necessary for an artistic creation of this caliber. Under the leadership of Chief Executive Offcer, Abdulrahman Jawahery, BAPCO’s contributions were essential in ensuring that everything runs seamlessly.

Mutasim AlKubaisy, the artist behind the sculptures, was enthusiastic about his participation. “Najdi-Bahraini horses are one of the purest Arabian breeds in the world,” he said. “They are highly ranked worldwide and have become an important symbol of Bahrain’s history and heritage. They also possess wonderful traits. This is what made me choose them as the basis of this project.”

He added: “Bint Al Bahrain consists of fve Arabian horses made from bronze, referred to as the ‘noble’ material. Its physical attributes allow it to endure the harshest of climates. Work took approximately six months, starting from preliminary sketches and allowing the concept to crystallize, followed by implementation using English clay. Bronze was then added to the sculptures, which were later shipped to Mina Salman.”

Al Kubaisy’s equestrian works have appeared in private collections across the UAE and have been exhibited widely in Baghdad, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Paris.

To us, this is more than just a partnership. We entered the world of football back in 2006. We wanted to do something that would not only be attractive for the brand, but for the Hublot fans as well. Our CEO at the time frmly believed in the potential of football, where others may have been skeptical. He was a visionary, as we can all see now that all major brands are sponsoring this sport. We didn’t choose football just for the sake of fnding a sport or partnership that was available, but because it truly unites people. We want our products to be linked to our football partnerships in general, not just FIFA. We have lots of other partnerships relating to football as well.

YOU’VE TEAMED UP WITH ARTIST SHEPARD FAIREY FOR THE THIRD TIME TO CREATE A NEW TIMEPIECE THIS YEAR. CAN YOU TELL US A BIT ABOUT THAT WATCH?

This watch, titled OBEY, communicates one of the masterpieces in Shepard Fairey’s heart. We have been partners with Fairey for over fve years now. This is the 3rd edition we’re doing together. This watch is exclusively available for the US market. It’s a very small, limited edition with only 50 pieces made, but it shows what Hublot wants to represent. It’s not the only partnership we have that links to the art world. We believe that partnering with artists really showcases a piece of us on the wrist of the customer.

HOW CLOSE DOES HUBLOT WORK WITH ARTISTS IN THIS REGION? ARE THERE ANY PARTNERSHIPS OR PLANS TO INVOLVE THEM IN THE HUBLOT JOURNEY?

Yes, absolutely. We have already done some limited editions with artists in the Middle East. Two of who were in the UAE. Today, I’m working on a

project for a new limited edition in this region. I can’t share too many details at this stage, but I can say it will be released in partnership with a very famous Middle Eastern artist.

HOW DO YOU SEE THE CURRENT PERCEPTION OF THE HUBLOT BRAND IN THE MIDDLE EAST?

We are one of the leading brands in this region. Ever since I took over in 2016, I have continued pushing the strategy during my brother’s and my father’s time, while incorporating my own methods as well. This has helped us be one of the top 5 best performing watch brands in the Middle East. For us, this is a very important market because it’s very different from the ones around the world. For instance, here, we sell to the highest percentage of women. It’s around 60% to men and 40% to women. The worldwide average is only 25% to women. So, we have been able to create a strategy where selling to our female customers is equally, if not even more, effective as selling to male customers.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE CHALLENGES YOU FACE WHEN IT COMES TO POSITIONING THE BRAND?

I wouldn’t say it’s easy, however, all the partnerships that we have do help us in positioning the brand in the region, and even worldwide. FIFA is currently the biggest one, but we also have partnerships with individuals who act as brand ambassadors. Perhaps the two most iconic ones being Kylian Mbappe and Pele. It’s very important to us that we choose ambassadors who refect our values.

HOW HAS THE HUBLOT BRAND EVOLVED OVERALL IN RECENT YEARS? HAVE THERE BEEN SIGNIFICANT CHANGES?

Before the relaunch in 2004, there was only one model, which was the Big Bang. Then in 2008, which is when I joined, we developed a new collection called Classic Fusion. This is our leading collection as of today. In 2014, we launched another collection titled The Spirit of Big Bang, which is a reinterpretation of the Big Bang collection in a barrel shape. This year, at Watches & Wonders, we launched the Square Bang. In terms of products, we are in continuous evolution. Hublot is also well-known as a leader in using new materials. All the materials we worked on and developed throughout the years are key innovations for the brand.

CAN YOU TELL US A BIT ABOUT VACHERON CONSTANTIN’S PARTICIPATION IN THE 30TH EDITION OF JEWELLERY ARABIA?

Jewellery Arabia is a key exhibition for us. This year, in particular, is very special because it’s the 30th year anniversary, and it coincides with the opening of World Exhibition Bahrain. This is why it was an excellent opportunity for us to rethink our booth. This year, it’s larger than ever before, and features a more modern design, inspired by our booth at Watches & Wonders. We brought our master watchmaker here because we wanted to bring a bit of Geneva to Bahrain. It’s a great way of showing beautiful, high watchmaking. YOU RECENTLY LAUNCHED THE OVERSEAS PERPETUAL CALENDAR ULTRA-THIN SKELETON. CAN YOU TELL US A BIT ABOUT ITS UNIQUE FEATURES?

This is a brand-new piece that we launched in Geneva this year. It is one of my top favorites in terms of novelties, because it’s a combination of high watchmaking, technical excellence, and the utmost in craftsmanship. The tourbillon is one of the most emblematic high complications. We, at Vacheron Constantin, especially like it because it features the multi-cross, which is our brand

emblem. The watch is a feast of craftsmanship and hand fnishing. We have 2 references for this piece, one in pink gold and one in full titanium, which is a frst for us.

WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THE TRIBUTE TO GREAT CIVILIZATIONS COLLECTION? AND CAN YOU DESCRIBE THE CREATIVE PROCESS BEHIND THEM?

Vacheron Constantin’s values include openness to the world and maintaining strong ties to art and culture. We have a very long relationship with the Louvre, which is one of the most important in the world. We previously worked with them on clock restorations. So, it made sense to create a new collection in collaboration with the Louvre. The idea was to pay tribute to the world’s great civilizations and antiquity. We jointly selected the different civilizations, which are Persia, Egypt, the Roman Empire, and Greek civilizations. This was a limitededition collection with fve pieces per design, and all fve pieces have been sold out.

HOW WOULD YOU DEFINE THE VACHERON CONSTANTIN BRAND?

Vacheron Constantin is the oldest watch manufacturer in the world. It was created in 1755, and it has not experienced any interruptions in terms of production since then. This is a fantastic in-house reputation to have. There is an amazing amount of savoir-faire passed down from generation to generation. The Maison has

always remained true to its DNA of watchmaking excellence throughout the centuries.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE VACHERON CONSTANTIN’S PERFORMANCE IN THE MIDDLE EAST MARKET?

The Middle East is a key market for us. We have a long relationship here that extends over a hundred years. Collectors in this region are extremely fond of high watchmaking. They know the brand and understand what makes a top watchmaking Maison, not only in terms of pieces, but also when it comes to service and experience.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER INITIATIVES OR PROJECTS THAT VACHERON CONSTANTIN HAS IN STORE?

We are very grateful for the many opportunities presented to us by this region.

It has helped us grow further and develop great relationships with collectors. We wanted to give back to the community, which is why we created a ‘One of Not Many Mentorship Program’ to help the young generation of Middle East talents achieve their goals by pairing them with important leaders in the region. We select six talents and six university students and help develop a project with them. We not only offer them coaching, but also give them some work experience. We launched the Program in the UAE two years ago. This year, we launched the program in Saudi Arabia.

Four Seasons is currently focusing on its expansion plans in Saudi Arabia starting with an upcoming property in Jeddah, Four Seasons Hotel and Private Residences Jeddah, located within the Corniche District, where guests and homeowners will be enchanted by views of the Red Sea and Jeddah’s classic architecture, refecting the city’s 2,000 years of history. The new property will include 269 luxuriously appointed guest rooms and suites, 21 serviced apartments for short- and longterm stays and 64 private residences including two penthouses. The property will also boast several high-end amenities making it an ideal stay option for leisure and business travelers. The company has also signed a new hotel in Diriyah, Four Seasons Hotel Diriyah, which will include approximately 150 luxuriously appointed rooms and suites, expansive meeting and event spaces, a wellness spa, ftness center, two outdoor pools as well as four culinary venues, including a poolside restaurant and sunset lounge. GOING FORWARD, WHAT SHOULD WE EXPECT FROM FOUR SEASONS NEXT?

Four Seasons Hotel Riyadh at Kingdom Centre is going to embark on phase two of its renovation in the frst quarter of 2023. By end of year, we will have renovated the reception and lobby lounge, and replaced our current culinary offerings with three new branded restaurants including one by Daniel Boulud and another by Pierre Hermé. Following that, we will start with the renovation of our Spa which will be transformed into a Wellness District incorporating a men’s spa, a new dedicated female spa and retail, refecting a new holistic approach to wellness. We will also be renovating our ballroom and building a unique venue under Four Seasons Hotel Riyadh brand called the Monogram Room which should be ready by September 2024.

The boutique size of The Merchant House allows us to exercise a high degree of personal attention to all aspects of the property - from the guests themselves to the fttings and decor to the kitchen. It’s easier said than done but we practice our service philosophy – intuitively personalized and intelligently attentive, to all our guests. Every area of the hotel, like the lobby, Indigo Terrace, The Library, and others, has its own design character through various color schemes which is complementary to our brand identity. Similarly, we have handpicked the fabrics used throughout the property, including pure silks, linens, and hand-crafted wallpaper. This gives a unique identity to the hotel. And since The Merchant House is locally owned and independently managed, we have greater fexibility to be more creative and innovative.

We have launched several new concepts which have proven to be popular with our clientele. These include the Hassle-Free Fridays program, which comprises extended breakfast hours as well as Belated breakfast for those who prefer all-day breakfast; a new seasonal our Friday FAB Brunch featuring our signature dishes; and winter season Afternoon T with a decadent selection of pastries and fnger food accompanying a wide selection of teas. I have a particular fondness for Afternoon T. In fact, we designed the experience inspired by the silk route story of Bahrain as a trading hub connecting East to West. Similarly, Afternoon T’s menu has a balance of favors from the Far and Middle East, and Europe. I think it’s perfect as a shared experience between friends or even as a light afternoon luncheon between colleagues. The best part is

because we’re conveniently located near Bahrain’s business hubs, and tourists appreciate the fact that they have a place to relax right next to one of the biggest shopping and tourism attractions in Bahrain. Many of our patrons have also remarked on the understated luxury of the property.

Sustainability is an ingrained part of our culture and plays a large role in our decision-making. Our initiatives are very visible in all aspects of the hotel, from the rooms to the restaurant, and even the spa and swimming pool. For example, we have installed the Messerschmitt energy-saving system in our rooms, which provides contactless room management features as well as avoids unnecessary energy waste when the room is unoccupied. We use the ROX Machine to clean and sanitize food, kitchen equipment, guest luggage and areas such as the lobby, guest rooms and F&B venues without the use of chemicals and while using minimal water. We have been using paper straws and linens at Indigo Terrace and Cafe Gray since the opening in 2019 and, on the whole, have not only minimized the use of plastic but have also opted to use biodegradable and compostable grade plastic wherever possible. We have further incorporated REN face and body care into the bathroom amenities. The brand was specifcally chosen by the hotel due to its environmental approach - its bottles are made with ocean plastic and tubes from recycled plastic. One of our latest initiatives is our collaboration with the eco-travel app Wayaj. Through the app, travelers can accurately calculate the carbon generated from their trips and offset that through verifed carbon offset projects from our website. Currently, these projects are found in other parts of the world, but we are also working towards including some Bahrain-centric projects on the app.

TELL US MORE ABOUT THE AURO COLLABORATION. WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO GO WITH AURO?

The reason we particularly wanted to work with Auro is that they have a very ethical business model that stresses sustainability and fair trade. They work directly with farmers to ensure that they receive equitable payment, support organic farming, and incentivize quality. We also like the fact that they ensure the quality of the chocolate by being involved in every step of the process. Auro’s chocolate also has a unique and varied favor profle so we can use different varieties of beans for different dishes.

It has taken a dedicated team effort to successfully establish and position The Merchant House as a 5-star boutique hotel. It comes down to placing clientele comfort at the forefront, combined with attention to the smallest details. We are always evolving and adapting to the times, and I think our brand loyalty stems from delivering services demanded by the market, at the same level of quality that people have come to expect from us.

TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE LIBRARY. WHAT IS ITS THEME AND COLLECTION OF BOOKS? WHY IT IS SUCH A UNIQUE CONCEPT FOR A HOTEL LOUNGE?

The Library is one of my personal favorite parts of the property. It contains approximately 1,000 carefully selected books from the Ultimate Library of Oxford ranging from the history of Bahrain to culture to the arts and everything in between. It’s just the ideal place to escape for a little bit, and enjoy a good read and some afternoon T.

WHAT’S UPCOMING AT THE MERCHANT HOUSE?

We have exciting things in store for our patrons! We’re close to launching a collaboration with Auro Chocolate at Cafe Gray called ChocoLAB. Auro is a premium tree-to-bar chocolate brand rooted in sustainability. Their French-trained Executive Pastry Chef Leti Moreau has designed a menu that includes chocolate fondue, rich hot chocolates, icy chocolates, chocolate shots and special desserts which are sure to delight anyone coming in from the cold Bahrain winter. Apart from this, we have big plans for some seasonal promotions and events for the festive season.

DRIVEN BY Ambition

TELL US ABOUT THE ALL-NEW GENESIS G90. WHAT ARE THE NEW FEATURES AND HOW DO THEY BUILD ON PREVIOUS MODELS?

G90 is the heritage model for Genesis. Whenever we have new technology or features that we want to introduce to our models, we start with the G90. The current model is equipped with air suspension, which is a frst for us. We also have the easy-closing power door. We designed the vehicle in a way that is suitable for being driven either by you or by a chauffeur. We wanted to differentiate this G90 from the previous models where it was mostly positioned as chauffeur-driven. The current model can be enjoyed by the owner during the weekend, for example, because it combines both the sporty and the luxury look.

WHAT ARE YOUR EXPECTATIONS FOR THE G90’S PERFORMANCE IN THE MIDDLE EAST MARKET?

Once we launched the vehicle and conducted our market analysis, we decided to consider it as the segment killer. We’re ambitious with our plans, especially for the G90. We can see a lot of positive feedback, both recently and from previous pre-booked vehicles. We anticipate this model doing very well in this segment.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE GENESIS BRAND?

For Genesis, we’re not only focusing on selling the car, but we’re also looking into the fner details. We envision our customer sitting in the car and we think of how to create that comfort zone for him. At the same time, we want to deliver different types of experiences. For example, for our VIP customers, we have responded to their feedback by arranging an experience for them at Al Ula. This is very different from the usual. Similarly, we have equipped our cars not only with features, but peace-of-mind customer experience as well. Our cars, especially the G90, are treated differently. They come with a 5-year unlimited warranty, 5-year service package, 5-year roadside assistance, and door-to-door service. We also have 2-year concierge services, ensuring that we meet the demands of our customers’ lifestyle.

HOW DOES GENESIS OVERCOME THE CHALLENGES OF COMPETITION IN THE SAME MARKET SEGMENT?

What we can see from our Middle East experience is that there is a lot of potential and demand for the luxury segment in this region. Customer tastes are different from those in Europe or the rest of the world in that they are more selective here when it comes to the details of the vehicles or their features. It’s a nice challenge for us. We can see a lot of demand to add that luxury touch. In Genesis, we took care of all those details and equipment. We can see ourselves performing well against the competition. 01

WHAT DO YOU SEE AS THE MOST CURRENT TREND IN THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY?

Overall, we see this industry moving from sedans towards SUVs. However, in the G90 segment, the sedan still dominates because most of these customers prefer a chauffeur-driven vehicle.

GOING FORWARD, WHAT CAN WE EXPECT NEXT FROM GENESIS?

We will continue delivering cars that meet the market’s demands. We’re anticipating a bright future for Genesis. Our plans remain ambitious and aggressive. We will be launching EVs in the near future. We’re currently in the process of testing them in this market.

ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE WITH OUR READERS?

For Genesis, we are mostly focusing on showing the bright side of the Middle East. Our experience at Al Ula means a lot to our customers and our team members, as Saudi Arabia is currently the biggest market for us within this region. At LTKBY, we set ourselves apart from our competitors with an additional element of differentiation, which I call ART. We are pioneering the movement of Food & Art and leading this

essential evolution in the culinary world. The coexistence of food and art in our restaurant elevates our emotional connection to our guests. This is our goal and thus we take the extra step to understand our guests’ feelings and create a connection where we can all meet for pleasure.

WHAT ARE THE INGREDIENTS THAT WILL ALWAYS BE FOUND IN YOUR KITCHEN?

There are so many ingredients that I am having a diffcult time to name a few. I am overly creative, instinctive, and curious, and would always want to try different ingredients every time. The ingredients that we use are always fresh and each dish is cooked based on our confrmed reservation. Most of our food is made a la minute and guests can experience the freshness in every bite. My go-to ingredients will always be olive oil, vegetables, lumee, salt fower, fresh herbs, and edible fowers. I am always open to new products, and I incorporate them into my favorite ingredient list. Research for new products and new tastes is one of our most important responsibilities. We invariably look for the best. Our restaurant manager, Kerstine, also connects with our guests immensely, which makes

their experience more personal. On top of being incredibly professional, she can read our guests, after which we communicate together based on our perception of our audience, then that is when the performance starts.

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY ARE THE TOP THREE SKILLS A CHEF NEEDS TO BE SUCCESSFUL?

A chef must be consumed by a great desire to excel. It must be the driving force that guides you every single day no matter what situation you are in. Your willingness to learn should also be paramount and endless. It needs to be constant, and accompanied by curiosity, creativity, and intense interest in the beauty of the world around you. Last is resilience. Never give up and keep on trying. Become the best version of yourself, listen to understand, and communicate effectively with your audience.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE MOST RECENT TRENDS IN THE CULINARY WORLD?

Culinary trends are in constant evolution. We defnitely see incessant interest in the authenticity of the process and a defnite sensibility for sustainability, and plant-based food. The world understands the fragility of our resources and we consume and cook more consciously. I feel a return to the origin of human interaction and dining trends is leading to a warm atmosphere, storytelling, connection, connectivity, and a strong quest for the comprehension of the products. Our guests want to understand what they are eating, and the story related to the process. I strongly believe in the ultimate quest for purity and truthfulness of our medium of nutrition.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE WITH OUR READERS?

I exist because I stand for a distinctive approach, challenging uniformity and creating the food of tomorrow. My angles of refection stimulate the mind to create ingenious products for the modern world. The precursor direction of my work has always been to astonish observers with an intriguing visual satisfaction. For me, the cuisine is about products, ingredients, and seasonality along with respect to its sources; therefore, I nurture the elements and elevate them to their paroxysm. Pioneering the philosophical progress and results, I am expressing cooking and plating like human existence, along with my joy and emotions. My art movement represents the hope of the creative act, the idea of elevating the discipline of cooking and plating to the level of art. An intense fervor and inner fre guide me to explore and always materialize my contemporary conception of cooking.

Photographer Prince Hussain Aga Khan and videographer Simone Piccoli shed new light on the importance of safeguarding marine life and biodiversity with their exhibition, “The Living Sea”.

TELL US MORE ABOUT “THE LIVING SEA” EXHIBITION. WHAT IS YOUR GOAL FOR THIS PROJECT?

Prince Hussain Aga Khan (P): My mission as a conversation photographer is to help people fall in love with nature and show them things that they may not see themselves. Ideally, I want my work to raise awareness and educate people on the issues while inspiring them to change their behavior and focus on what they can do to help. The “Living Sea” exhibition spotlights efforts to conserve marine life and stresses the importance of protecting the biodiversity of marine organisms from human activities such as overfshing, sea transport, dumping toxic substances and waste into the sea, and the ensuing danger of similar activities, which leads to the deterioration of the habitats and livelihood of marine animals. Our oceans are flled with stunning, playful, and intelligent wildlife, but a great many species are sadly at risk of extinction.

Simone Piccoli (S): I want to show people the beauty of marine life and share my personal experiences. We have such incredible creatures living in the sea now, but with problems like pollution, plastic, overfshing, and shark fnning, how much longer will they be there? It is a hard road ahead, but it is not too late to make a change.

HOW DID YOUR COLLABORATION COME ABOUT?

P: We met in November 2014 on a dolphin expedition that Simone was guiding in Sataya, Red Sea. Our passion for marine life took us on a fascinating journey to explore the hidden marvels of the deep sea in Egypt, where gigantic groups of dolphins swim. In the following years, we set our sights on Vava’u, one of Tonga’s two main islands where deep water whales go to give birth every summer.

S: We have had many diving trips together over the years and always enjoy working together. This exhibition is a combination of our passion for safeguarding marine life and our commitment to highlighting this important cause.

HOW DOES COMBINING PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEOGRAPHY ENHANCE THE IMPACT OF THIS EXHIBITION?

P: Seeing is believing. With our combination of photos and videos, the subject matter of this exhibition comes to life. I’ve seen plastic in the ocean go from practically zero 15 years ago to experiencing it every time I dive now. I see fshhooks in the mouths of sharks and other horrible things I never used to. I am starting to include these sorts of images in my shows, which otherwise seem too happy and rose-tinted. I haven’t included those images in The Living Sea, but there are plenty of captions alongside the images with statistics about extinction that are just as worrying.

S: Combining stills and video makes the exhibition more interactive and engaging. We are both telling the same story with our work and there is a continuity of style. We have an important role to play because our work creates an emotional connection between the subject and the people who come to this exhibition.

WHY IS IT SO IMPORTANT TO YOU BOTH PERSONALLY TO SHED LIGHT ON THE EFFORTS TO CONSERVE MARINE LIFE?

P: My great-uncle was an environmentalist when I was young, and I was very close to him. He had a foundation in Geneva focused on animal rights and that had a huge infuence on me. I grew up on David Attenborough and Gerald Durrell and bought all their books. I also kept fsh at home

from an early age. All these things impacted me greatly and I’ve been in love with wildlife and ecosystems ever since.

S: I developed a love for the ocean later in life because I only started diving when I was 22 years old. I actually started out as an underwater photographer but found myself drawn to videography because it seemed more emotional and more challenging to get the right shot. I have lived in Egypt for 20 years and having the Red Sea right on my doorstep made me love the ocean even more.

WHEN YOU DIVE TO TAKE PICTURES, THERE IS ALWAYS A RISK OF ENCOUNTERING PREDATORS. HAVE YOU EVER HAD ANY CLOSE CALLS?

P : Yes, a few times. In reality, smaller fsh are more vicious than most sharks. Clownfsh often try to defend their anemones and chase you away from their families. Sharks only kill six to eight people a year globally, mistaking them for other marine animals, but humans intentionally kill between 80-273 million sharks annually. There are 500 species of sharks and less than 10 of them attack people regularly. It’s human error and equipment failure that pose the biggest risks while diving.

S: When we dive, we prepare well in advance so we don’t arrive at a place without knowing what is waiting down there. Anything can happen in the ocean, but most of the time, if a dangerous situation happens, it’s because you created it. Knowing the behavior of sharks is also crucial to stay safe. They give plenty of warnings before attacking, they move their pectoral fns together when they feel more aggressive and arch their backs. With every dive, you gain greater experience and become more vigilant.

HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BRING THIS EXHIBITION TO BAHRAIN AND WHAT IS THE NEXT STOP IN THE TOUR?

P: It was wonderful to bring this exhibition to Bahrain and I couldn’t be more grateful to Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa and Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa. Doing a show in the region for the frst time has been an amazing experience because it is a place so close to my heart. It has been an honor and privilege. My next show is in Connecticut in a few months, and we may do a show in Dubai next year.

S: This was my frst visit to Bahrain, and it’s been an amazing experience. The Kingdom has a fascinating marine ecosystem. I’m looking forward to coming back soon to explore it in more detail

TELL US MORE ABOUT THE OBJECTIVES OF YOUR FOUNDATION FOCUSED ON NATURE (FON)

P: I founded Focused On Nature to assist in the conservation and protection of threatened and endangered species, as well as the conservation of under-threat habitats. I try to raise awareness and showcase the beauty of nature through my photography, but I don’t think I’ll ever have boots on the ground in terms of conservation. However, through FON, we fnance some leading conservation organizations, which are carefully vetted to ensure that the funds are spent on the projects designated. Grantees include the Shark Conservation Fund and Fins Attached, the Manta Trust, Whale and Dolphin Conservation and the Wild Dolphin Project, The Rainforest Trust and Re:wild, the Wildlife Conservation Society and Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, as well as Oceana and the Jane Goodall Institute.

WHAT MESSAGE WOULD YOU GIVE TO PEOPLE INTERESTED IN ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AND PRESERVATION?

P: The obvious advice is to educate yourself on the issues before it’s too late. There are many organizations around the world committed to raising awareness about environmental protection and conservation. Try to minimize your use of plastic and fossil fuels, and plant trees, if possible. We have known about the problems of fossil fuels and climate change for decades and just haven’t reacted quickly enough. Some solutions are simple while others are more complex and require greater research. For example, alternative plastic is an area that we can improve on massively.

S: Reduce, reuse, and recycle. Cut down on what you throw away and try to conserve resources. When you further your own education, you can help others understand the importance and value of our natural resources.

DO YOU REMEMBER HAVING YOUR FIRST SPARK OF CREATIVITY AT A YOUNG AGE? WHEN DID YOU DISCOVER YOUR PASSION FOR DESIGN?

I recall traveling through Spain with my family when I was a kid, visiting so many museums and art galleries. My father would speak to me about the importance of art and how it can change our perspective of the world. I feel that this profoundly affected my relationship with art and design – it allowed me to pursue a lifelong passion to create and innovate.

CAN YOU TELL US A BIT ABOUT THE RECENTLY LAUNCHED MCLAREN COLLECTION?

At TUMI, we take pride in pushing the boundaries. With this latest collection, we were inspired by the materials and technical innovations

found in McLaren in both road cars and race cars to fnd the pinnacle of performance and connectivity. The bridge between these two worlds was strengthened as we developed the carbon fber execution of the TUMI | McLaren Collection. Curated by their multifaceted passions and their drive to be on the move, the Crew showcases the 19 Degree Aluminum, TEGRA-LITE®, and TUMI | McLaren collections, respectively through each campaign chapter.

TUMI’s TEGRA-LITE® made this trip

more exceptional since I securely packed meaningful mementos from La isla to always remind me of the homeland,” Ramos said. He recorded a song inspired by his trip with TUMI, titled “Maleta” which means bag in Spanish.

The fnal installment spotlights the newest TUMI | McLaren Carbon Fiber CFX collection with McLaren F1 driver Lando Norris, who shared his vision for the future. Captured outside London, his story complements the TUMI | McLaren collection, which is built on innovation, technology and design.

A Voyage to Ancient Egypt

Artistic Director Valérie Messika continues to explore the fascinating, mysterious world of ancient Egypt as she unveils the second opus from Beyond the Light: a radiant, powerful high jewellery collection.

Following the success of Beyond the Light’s frst opus, launched at the Paris High Jewellery week last July, Messika unveils her second opus at an exceptional Paris Fashion Week show in September. With this new opus, the Parisian Maison elaborates on a unique and mystical journey. It’s a magical odyssey, where excellence and daring come together masterfully to create incandescent, majestic jewels.

In these pieces, the power of architectural lines are combined with the purity of geometric shapes, enriching Messika’s offering, particularly when it comes to the work on colored gemstones such as turquoise, malachite, onyx, and aventurine. From headpieces and belly chains to double rings worn off-center, each piece hugs a different part of the body and is a statement of Messika’s unique style.

With pure lines, freedom of movement and a strong color palette featuring contrasting tones and plays of the light, Valérie Messika reinvents a retrofuturistic symphony with a subtle hint of Egypt.

In Imperial Move, the iconic Move Uno pattern is shown through an imperial set in the colors

With Kandake, Valérie Messika has created a very graphic suite, designed with an emphasis on being fashion-led. true icon for Van Cleef & Arpels since 1968, the Alhambra collection is shining once again with five new jewelry creations in guilloché white gold. A rose gold wristwatch with a beaded bracelet compliments these pieces, celebrating luck with a timeless aesthetic design.

Over the years, the Alhambra collection has given rise to innovative interpretations, highlighting rare and precious materials. This year, the collection welcomes a long necklace, a bracelet, a pendant, a ring and a pair of earrings adorned with a sunburst pattern in guilloché white gold. A time-honored technique adopted by the Maison as of the 1910s, the guilloche initially embellished watch dials and was extended in the 1930s to boxes, powder cases and Minaudières upon which stones mingled with precious metal.

For these new pieces, the sunbeam-like streaks bestow a subtle relief on the surface of the gold, intensifying the fow of light. True to the original style of the Alhambra collection, each motif features a beaded contour and a central bead in white gold.

Van Cleef & Arpels is highlighting the Alhambra token of luck through a new creation that blends watchmaking savoir-faire and jewelry inspiration. The Maison has created a warm and delicate rose gold Sweet Alhambra watch designed to highlight the emblematic golden bead technique together with the Maison’s watchmaking expertise.

In a feminine jewelry spirit, a case made up of

two rows beaded surrounds a white mother-of-pearl dial. It all started from humble beginnings. In 1962, Mahmood Jaffar, a man whose family roots stretch back to the pearl trade, began trading in gold and jewellery, followed by the opening of his frst watch and jewellery store in 1967. This marked the birth of Asia Jewellers. Mahmoud had a deep appreciation for gemstones and understood their value. His legacy began with an investment. At the age of 17, his entrepreneurial abilities and passion led him to opening a company, one that has since grown in size to become one of Bahrain’s most signifcant retailers, attracting some of the world’s most important international brands to the Kingdom, and trailblazing a path beyond pearls. In addition, distinguished Swiss watchmaker IWC Schaffhausen will make a memorable appearance.

Zenith, known for being pioneers in the lifelong pursuit of precision, and Corum, daringly ahead of its time, will all present their high-end watches at the event. Exhibiting for the frst time is L’Epée 1839, the only manufacturer in Switzerland to specialize in the creation of high-end mechanical clocks designed and produced entirely in-house.

Danat organized a comprehensive program for Cartier Brickell’s visit to Bahrain. The tour included her attendance at Danat’s stand at the Jewellery Arabia Exhibition, during which she attended a book signing for her new book, The Cartiers, which chronicles the history of her family and its role in the jewellery trade. Citizens and residents were in high demand for this book, and some of them went to the exhibition particularly to purchase it.

She also gave a lecture that received great interaction from the visitors of the exhibition, who listened to aspects of the family connection found by Cartier, in the Arabian Gulf region and Bahrain in particular, and evidence, stories, and photographs that date and document that stage.

Cartier Brickell’s itinerary also included a visit to Muharraq Governorate and the diving and natural pearl extraction areas. She learned about the developments that have occurred in the feld of pearl extraction and trade during the past one hundred years. She was also able to examine the Kingdom of Bahrain’s role in reviving and preserving this

invaluable and historic enterprise thanks to the Danat Institute and other relevant parties, and she also took part in a diving tour.

Under the coordination of DANAT, and on the occasion of the historic visit, a memorial photo was taken of Cartier Brickell in the same position in which her grandfather, Mr. Cartier, sat during his visit to Bahrain in 1912, about 110 years ago, and next to her are the grandchildren of those who appeared in the previous photo with Cartier.

In Missoni’s Winter 2022 collection, music is an engine, speaking of a strong and sweet woman.

Founded in 1936 by Naji Murad, Modern Art Studio’s original shop was located in Government Avenue, Manama, Bahrain. In 1940 Hans Wilsdorf, founder of Rolex Geneva, offcially appointed Modern Art Studio as the frst and only Rolex agent in the Gulf. Naji Murad promoted and sold watches from his store in Bahrain and also to his sub agents in the Gulf. He later recommended them to Rolex to become offcial agents, many of whom are still distributors of Rolex today.

Modern Art Studio’s new Rolex showroom was opened in 1978. The shop featured exclusive

showcases which not only displayed the watches but were also cleverly designed into individual letters spelling the name ROLEX.

Richard and David Murad, the sons of Naji Murad, have taken the reins of Modern Art Studio, which continues to trade as a well-established family business. Hans Wilsdorf founded Tudor watches in 1946 and the frst Tudor Boutique in the Gulf was opened by Modern Art Studio in Manama Bahrain in December 2014.

Celebrations unveiled a new chapter in the creative epic of 13, rue de la Paix, after more than two years of renovation. For those visiting Abu Dhabi to learn more of its history and religion, no trip would be complete without a visit to Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.

Established in 2008, it is the largest mosque in the UAE, large enough to accommodate over 40,100 worshippers. It’s also one of the country’s key tourism destinations, having welcomed over a million visitors this year alone. The project was launched by the late president of the UAE, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who wanted to establish a structure that would unite the cultural diversity of the Islamic world with the historical and modern values of architecture and art. Following his death in 2004, he was buried in the courtyard of the mosque.

collaboration with Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority, it is also preparing to launch its Centre for Global Sustainability.

In KIZAD, UAE-based AgTech company Madar Farms plans to build the world’s frst commercialscale indoor tomato farm using LED lights. RNZ aims to set up a state-of-the-art R&D center for agri-input solutions.

Extending Abu Dhabi’s AgTech ecosystem into space, ADIO has also partnered with US-based Nanoracks to build the world’s frst commercial AgTech space research center, its ‘StarLab’, on the ground in Abu Dhabi. On top of this, Abu Dhabi will soon be home to the world’s largest indoor farm, thanks to a collaboration between Dutch GrowGroup IFS and Abu Dhabi-based RainMakers Capital Investment. At 17.5ha, it will produce more than 10,000 tons of fresh vegetables every year. Homegrown innovator Pure Harvest secured a frst-of-its-kind US$50m structured Sukuk fnancing solution in March 2021, to fund its techenabled year-round production of premium fruits and vegetables.

CAN YOU TELL US A BIT ABOUT EM SHERIF MONTE-CARLO?

My goal at Em Sherif is to ensure that the branch refects the spirit of Hotel de Paris. Patrons can expect the same high-quality food as other branches, while enjoying an absolutely breathtaking view from the terrace. I love working with unique concepts like Em Sherif as it gives me a chance to share experiences and contribute the know-how needed to create a restaurant with attractive offerings and service. We are aiming to reopen the branch by April 2023 and I’m very excited about that.

WHY WAS MONACO CHOSEN AS THE LOCATION FOR THE RESTAURANT’S BRANCH?

Monaco is one of the most beautiful destinations in the world. Not only are you surrounded by beautiful nature, but it offers a truly unique work environment. Having your address at Monaco is a sign of prestige. It also presents a rare opportunity to collaborate with some of the world’s top chefs.

WHAT ARE YOUR SOURCES OF INSPIRATION?

I fnd inspiration from various sources. Just being at the food market can be inspiring to me, as a recipe starts with the best ingredients. Seeing

everything around me, I can visualize it coming seamlessly together to create something special. It’s important to choose products that are in season. Having said that, there’s also a lot of trial and error when you’re a chef. You have to keep trying until you discover what works and what doesn’t. It’s almost like an artist with his paint brush and different colors. It’s all about creativity.

WHAT ARE YOUR DUTIES AT HOTEL DE PARIS?

As Executive Chef, I’m involved in every moment of the guests’ day at the hotel. I make sure that everything meets the level of enchantment that has come to be known as part of the Hotel de Paris experience, whether it’s their welcome to the rooms, breakfast, lunch at the American Bar, snacks at the Wellness Sky Club, or Le Grill in the evenings. I cherish interactions with clients, like those spontaneous moments when they share with me what they liked about the dishes. It allows me to understand how my cuisine makes them feel, which is very important to me.

WHAT WOULD YOU CONSIDER TO BE YOUR SIGNATURE DISH?

Everything on the menu is something I love eating myself. Some of the items are my all-time favorites. One dish I’m very proud of is the risotto. I prepare it with sea bream, infused with ginger

and grilled with carrots. I use a mixture of different techniques to create a risotto that is ideal for starting a meal. I fnd it great in setting the tone and paving the way for dishes that come next.

WHAT IS YOUR PROUDEST MOMENT AS A CHEF?

One of the most important moments of my career was the 25-year celebration of Louis XV at Hotel de Paris in 2011. It was an incredible “rendez vous gastronomic” with over 420 guests attending the 3-day event and tasting the best regional ingredients. Another proud moment came in 2013, at the 150-year celebration of SBM at Monte-Carlo. This was a key moment in my career as 400 Michelin stars attended the event. All three and two Michelin stars in the world were invited. It was a massive responsibility! I’m very proud of my position at Hotel de Paris, as it’s a key dining destination in the French Riviera and one of the most admirable places in the world.

WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR NOVICE CHEFS?

Be curious! That’s a very important quality to have. But make sure to keep your common sense as well. That’s what you will need to succeed, along with some goodwill and a touch of talent!

Its frst range of cocktail fruit purees, the Fruity Mix line, was launched in Italy in 1994. The frst decade of the 2000s was characterized by a dedication to Research & Development. First stop was Jumeirah Gulf of Bahrain Resort & Spa. Located at Zallaq, this tranquil retreat offers an extensive range of leisure and wellness facilities, elegantly designed rooms and villas, all featuring sweeping views of the Gulf, stunning landscaped gardens or meandering waterways. The H9, with its gorgeous exterior, looked iconic in this idyllic setting.

The striking exterior of the H9 refects the brand’s iconic design that integrates modern technique with cultural elements. The front is defned by the classic waterfall grill and a protruding Lit red trim; the inclined roof meets the trunk-lid rear window in a fuid line that accentuates graceful character. 20-inch wheels and matrix LED headlamps further distinguish the exterior, and there are multiple color options available, including classy two-tone paint fnish.

The cabin is outftted in Nappa leather upholstery. Wood grain and chrome-plated materials create an opulent atmosphere within a spacious interior that offers generous leg and head room. The heated and ventilated seats also come with a special

massage function. A panoramic sunroof enhances roominess and brings in ample natural light, while 4-zone automatic climate control and rear AC vents maintain an optimal interior environment for all passengers’ convenience.

The Executive variant comes with independent rear seats in addition to two display screens for rear passengers. The Comfort variant keeps the electrically adjustable rear massage seats, however this variant is designed to accommodate 3 seaters in the back when required. Both variants feature headup display, a 12.3-inch infotainment system, wireless phone charging, adjustable ambient lighting and a 14-speaker Bose Sound System. Parking at Bahrain Bay, the H9 looked majestic against the backdrop of the iconic skyline. The H9 provides a driving experience that is smooth and responsive. The steering wheel memory function adjusts the steering wheel position based on the

driver’s habits which lends a personable touch. Impressive safety and assistive tech levels include fatigue monitoring, blind spot detection, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, panoramic view auto parking, and plenty more, so that all passengers are guaranteed a drive that is secure and most of all pleasurable.

Our last stop was in the Zinj area, home to Bahrain’s most popular amusement park, Adhari Park, and the historic freshwater springs, Ain Adhari. This combination of amenities and tradition has made the area a beloved destination for families over generations. Gliding down the road at night with the lights gleaming off its exterior, the H9 looked absolutely prestigious.

Overall, the Hongqi H9 was a delight. Its combination of luxurious interiors, impressive design language, and crisp steering makes it an ideal choice for luxury sedan buyers.

We were equally impressed with the interior of the QX60, where you can tell that spaciousness and comfort were paramount in design. The inside of the QX60 is wholly functional for up to seven passengers. Infniti Zero Gravity-inspired seats help deliver comfort over journeys long or short. The second-row seats handily tilt and slide to provide access to the third row, without the need to remove a child safety seat. Cargo space for everything from a grocery run to a road trip is plentiful, too, with up to 749 liters of storage space (second and third rows folded). Access to the generous trunk is made easier by a standard power liftgate with available motion-

activated liftgate feature, a bonus when accessing the vehicle with hands full.

When it comes to performance, the QX60 was sheer joy. It was an exhilarating feeling as we went along Tbilisi’s roads, surrounded by beautiful nature. Paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission, standard paddle shifters allow for additional control. The powertrain delivers a combined fuel economy of up to 11.0 km/L. The limited-edition series Mercedes-Maybach S-Class Haute Voiture is a collectible piece designed for select occasions. Merging the aesthetics presented earlier this year, but now with new meticulous design details that elevate the customer experience.

Mercedes-Maybach presented the new model for the frst time during an event in Dubai on December 12, 2022. The vehicle was revealed following a curated fashion show by local couture designer Atelier Zuhra. In attendance were VIP guests, media, and infuencers.

A Mercedes-Maybach S 680 (WLTP combined fuel consumption: 14.3-13.4 l/100 km, combined CO₂ emissions: 326-304 g/km)1, the limited special edition facilitates a full sensory experience and showcases a supreme elegance that is refective of the brand’s “Sophisticated Luxury” ethos. Giving it the Durrah treatment, we took the impressive Aston Martin DBX around the streets of Dubai. The experience was absolutely exhilarating as we cruised along Sheikh Zayed Road. A perfect combination of performance and comfort.

When it was unveiled, the DBX marked a bold new chapter and a landmark moment in Aston Martin’s illustrious 106-year history, as it’s the marque’s frst SUV. DBX signals a new era in Aston Martin’s pursuit to deliver exceptional performance, style, and usability in a segment previously unexplored by the world-famous manufacturer. Bringing both the versatility and indulgence expected of a luxury SUV with sports car levels of dynamic performance, DBX sets a bold new standard in this sector.

What truly stood out for us about the DBX is its beautiful, dynamic shape. It looked gorgeous as it glistened amid Dubai’s night lights. Utilizing bonded aluminum, a construction method Aston Martin has refned through the development of its sports cars, the body structure is both very light and incredibly stiff, assisting in the delivery of an overall kerbweight of 2,245kg. Right from its genesis, it was designed to allow maximum room in the cabin, putting a premium on refnement and class leading spaciousness for both front and rear occupants. Meanwhile, the exceptional stiffness inherent in the design of the platform has also enabled DBX to achieve exceptional dynamics both on and off-road.

Adaptive triple volume air suspension has been combined with the latest 48v electric antiroll control system (eARC) and electronic adaptive dampers to provide the SUV with a huge breadth

of ability. With its capacity to raise the ride height by 45mm or lower it by 50mm the air suspension gives any driver the confdence to tackle a wide range of terrain. While this of course provides benefts while on the move, the system can be further programmed to aid with ingress, egress and loading requirements, aiding on a practical level.

The DBX rewarded us with smooth and effortless handling wherever we went, on-road or off-road around Dubai. Perhaps that shouldn’t be too surprising, since it’s powered by a new version of the characterful 4-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 engine found in DB11 and Vantage. Porsche Taycan 4S

Driving the Taycan 4S on the streets of Dubai was sheer fun. Being an electric car does not take away anything from the experience, as it still feels like driving a Porsche: thoroughly enjoyable.

The successor to the Taycan Turbo S and the Taycan Turbo, the 4S is available with two battery sizes; the standard Performance Battery delivers up to 522 hp (390 kW) and the optional Performance Battery Plus, up to 563 hp (420 kW). Most Taycan models feature dual electric motors, with one powering the front wheels and the other powering the rears. They produce separate outputs that vary by trim level.

When plugged into an 800-volt high-speed DC charging station, the maximum charging capacity (peak) is 225 kW for the Performance Battery or 270 kW for the Performance Battery Plus.

There is no shortage of excitement when you’re behind the wheel of the 4S. It generates 522 horsepower with the smaller battery and 562 horses with the bigger one. Acceleration goes up to 100 km/h in as little as 4 seconds, with a top track speed of 250 km/h. It combines breathtaking acceleration and tractive power typical of sports cars with outstanding continuously available performance, drawing on the strengths of the Taycan Turbo and Turbo S. The rotor of the permanently excited synchronous motor on the rear axle has a length of 130 millimeters, 80 millimeters

shorter than the rotor on the Taycan Turbo S and Taycan Turbo resulting in more compact packaging and reduced weight. The pulse-controlled inverter used on the front axle in the Taycan 4S operates with up to 300 amps, and the inverter on the rear axle with up to 600 amps, further connecting it to the Taycan Turbo.

With two permanently excited synchronous motors on the front and rear axles—in other words all-wheel drive—as well as a two-speed transmission on the rear axle, the drive architecture comprises the same main technical highlights as the rest of the Taycan family. The same also applies to the intelligent charging management and exemplary aerodynamics. With a cd value from 0.22, the aerodynamics make a signifcant contribution to reducing energy consumption.

The innovative exterior design with Porsche DNA is also typical for the Taycan, as is the unique interior design with its upright dash and sloping center console. With the Taycan, Porsche offers an entirely leather-free interior for the frst time. Interiors made from innovative recycled materials underscore the sustainable concept of the electric sports car. As standard, the Taycan 4S comes with a partial leather interior as well as front comfort seats with eight-way electrical adjustment and driver memory.

Much like you would expect from a Porsche

model, its gorgeous dynamic shape will make you fall in love at frst sight. It has distinguishing features, including aerodynamically optimized 19-inch Taycan S Aero wheels and brake calipers painted in red, typical of Porsche’s two-door sports cars. The body features fully galvanized steel/ aluminum hybrid lightweight bodyshell. The bonnet, tailgate, doors, side sections and front wings are also in aluminum, as well as the roof, which has a contoured design with dynamic recess profle. With its recent launch in the Middle East, we knew we had to take the Ford Territory for a ride in one of the best cities for SUV fun: Riyadh.

This is one SUV that was defnitely made for our region’s harsh weather conditions. Before bringing the all-new Territory to the Middle East, Ford put it through a rigorous and extensive in-market evaluation. Three prototype vehicles with different build pedigrees were tested on diverse terrains for over 18 months – including two summer cycles (June to August) – to guarantee consistent exposure to peak daily temperatures, which range between 43°C and 49°C, and sun load.

As the family enjoyed a casual breakfast together, Jean-Jacques announced that he’d been saving a vintage champagne for the occasion. Francesca tracked down family archives as far afeld as St. Louis and Tokyo; deciphered ancient gravestones in Paris; trekked through sapphire mines in Sri Lanka and delved into the natural pearl trade with gem dealers in the Persian Gulf. The result is The Cartiers: The Untold Story of the Family Behind the Jewellery Empire, a captivating history full of never-before-revealed details about the family behind the global jewellery dynasty.

Bahrain International Garden Show

The Bahrain International Garden Show (BIGS) is frmly established as a leading gardening and agricultural show in the Arabian Gulf. Created in response to the increasing demand from local and international gardening and agriculture companies, BIGS is an expo of innovation and opportunity.

BIGS is the perfect meeting place for international exporters and investors in the gardening, agriculture and related industries –introducing them to the thriving agro-business environment in the Kingdom of Bahrain and in the Arab region.

The National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD) organizes the Bahrain International Garden Show with the aim of promoting and creating awareness towards the Agricultural sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain. NIAD plays an important role in inviting international agricultural companies to Bahrain, and facilitates high level matchmaking opportunities for international companies.

NIAD was launched by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka Bint Ibrahim Al-Khalifa, Wife of the King of Bahrain, in March 2010. As the

President of the Consultative Council of the National Initiative for Agricultural Development, Her Royal Highness chairs the Consultative Council of distinguished offcials from the public sector, chief executive offcers of the private sector and representatives of the concerned civil society organizations.

The initiative focuses mainly on protecting and developing the agricultural industry in the Kingdom of Bahrain; in addition to; creating a balance between agricultural and developed lands, with the belief that such measures are vital for the overall health of the population and the future of food security. Bahrain has to move towards achieving some level of self-suffciency that will naturally lead to the increase of the contribution of the agricultural sector to the gross domestic product.

The offcial opening of Bahrain International Garden Show 2023 will take place on 21st February, with the show running from 22nd to 25th February at Exhibition World Bahrain. bigs.com.bh
