Identity INTRODUCTION
Welcome to the brand manual for the Tropical Rainforest Heritage of Sumatra The 2.5 million hectare Tropical Rainforest Heritage of Sumatra site comprises three national parks: Gunung Leuser National Park, Kerinci Seblat National Park and Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park. These parks are evenly spread throughout the entirety of Sumatra, showcasing the beauty and diversity of the island. The site holds the greatest potential for long-term conservation of the distinctive and diverse biota of Sumatra, including many endangered species. The protected area is home to an estimated 10,000 plant species and more than 200 mammal species. Of the mammal species, 22 are Asian, not found elsewhere in the archipelago and 15 are confined to the Indonesian region, including the endemic Sumatran orangutan. The Tropical Rainforest Heritage of Sumatra currently resides on the UNESCO list in danger. This brand manual is designed to provide a set of rules and regulations for applying and reproducing the Tropical Rainforest Heritage of Sumatra branding and identity. The guidelines are designed to help give the brand a consistent, recognizable look and feel. This publication contains a summary of the thinking behind our new brand, an overview of our creative style, and an explanation of the basic elements of the new identity of the Tropical Rainforest Heritage of Sumatra.

Logo Elements As previously stated, the Tropical Rainforest Heritage of Sumatra is comprised of 3 individual national parks: Gunung Leuser National Park, Kerinci Seblat National Park and Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park. These national parks are home to many beautiful and rare species of animals, plants, and historical landmarks. The three distinct icons within the logo design are meant to equally represent the three different national parks within Sumatra. Much thought and research was done to choose which icons would represent the potential UNESCO heritage site. The first icon is representative of Kerinci National Park. I chose a volcano to represent this park because the park is home to Mount Kerinci, the highest volcano in all of Indonesia as well as the highest point in Sumatra. This icon is also meant to be representative of the many mountain ranges of Sumatra. The second icon is representative of Gunung Leuser National Park. I chose the iconic Sumatran Orangutan as the imagery for this park. Orangutans can be found throughout the entirety of Sumatra, however Gunung Leuser National Park is home to a orangutan sanctuary housing
over 5,000 individual orangutans, making it the largest sanctuary of its kind in the world. This icon is also meant to be representative of rainforest of Sumatra. The third and final icon is representative of Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park. This park is located at the southernmost tip of the island of Sumatra. I chose the Vlakkenhoek lighthouse as the imagery for this park. The Vlakkenhoek lighthouse was constructed in 1879 under the instruction of the king of the Netherlands, who at the time held the area as a colony. I chose this imagery because it gives a glimpse into the long history of Sumatra while also showing the diversity of the national parks. The lighthouse is meant to be a symbol endurance while also showcasing the coastal nature of this park. The type choice for the word Sumatra within the logo is meant to be representative of the wild and exciting nature of the island. Together with the three icons, these elements help to represent the beauty, diversity, and culture of the Tropical Rainforest Heritage of Sumatra.
