DuTai HUYNH

Biography.

Studio Context ECO MOTO. Studio summary.

I’m DuTai Huynh and I grew up in Vietnam. I moved to Australia in 2011 to achtieve my future goal - become a product designer. At the moment, I’m a 2nd year student studying industrial design at RMIT. My major aim is to improve the appearance and functionality of current products which can make life more convenient. In the short term, I’m trying to improve my sketching and drawing skills - which is important to illustrate my ideas to people. I want to practice those skills and put that experience into automotive design because, in my opinion, it’s the hardest major of industrial design. In the future, I hope to pursue furniture design because I would like to see my design be used and be useful for life.

This studio is about world changing, it is about creating viable visions of technical innovation for personal transportation as a provocation for radical revision of mobility systems. For developed countries and cities motorcycles provide an independent mobility alternative to Public transport with a reduced urban footprint. Many riders identify with a particular motorcycle culture that defines their self-image and provides a social network and activities: Riding, personalizing and maintenance occupy a great deal of time, effort and generates design

and business opportunities. This “first world” economy generates an insatiable ‘wow’ factor that funds motorcycle research and development creating an opportunity for global redefinition of Motorcycles and mobility. Climate change and peak oil are driving the fuel costs beyond the ability of most communities to maintain their living standards when mobility is required. The majority of motorcycles in the world use engines smaller than 200cc and are small, agile and simple to maintain. The design challenge is to take one such motorcycle and make its eco-footprint

- Conceptualise and develop ideas through manual and digital techniques and processes including complex surfaces, objects and assemblies. - Analyse, identify and develop sustainable practices in the design, use and end of life of the Eco Motorcycle - Identify and develop design opportunities for local industrial capacity to manufacture very small and potential to go fast motorcycles and far, very large. - Generate and communicate concepts for motorcycles to a broad audience through exhibition and digital formats

Learning outcome. - Work collaboratively with diverse project stakeholders, including industry and community groups to explore and develop design ideas of mutual value

Motorcycle Design & Styling Manual & digital visualisations. Technical integration of Systems, manufacturing processes & materials - Presentation and client engagement. - Digital Sculpting Solidworks - Rapid prototyping - Developing online profile and presence

Motorbikes are a part of automotive design which is divided into many types; such as sport bikes for performance, off road bikes, scramblers, dirtbikes for road condition. However, I chose naked bike because it captured my attention at my first glance. This particular bike is suitable

for people who engage in a busy social life and who would like to save money by using compressed air instead of fuel.

Working / Studying

For people who interested in bike, it really usefull in many situations. This motorbike is a good choice for going to work or university. Attractive, Lightweight and High-performance are a target.

Travel/ Touring

Travelling and Exploring a new destination will be in your future list if u own a motorbike. Imagine using your favorite motorbike and travel around with your friends, how cool is it ?

Around City

City is a crowded place that you can use a motorcycle moving around. Its better than a car because it will move quickly in a small road and get a free parking place

Highway

Highway requires skillful driver about high-speed bike, safety and aslo knowledge. Thats why the motorbike need to perform a long-glasting energy and perfectly on the highway..

Social Life

This motobike help owner getting easy to go everywhere such as market, shopping mall....

CONCEPT PROPOSAL

Air-infinite is the name that I chose for my bike concept. It represents how it will influence the world in many different fields including various environmental problems, creating infinite resources and introducing money saving. It’s also a design for many variety types of people including active, artistic and those who love travel. The bike concept focuses on five main points - resplendent, versatility, accessibility, acceleration and innovation. First of all, the naked bike from my point of view is eyecatching- which can show off your style to people. They can

see the main engine obviously which is connected to the main frame. Secondly, Air-infinite is designed for functionality and convenience. Everything is easy to use from the touch screen, dashboard, compressed-air display, security and safe controls. Although running by air engine, Air-infinite can reach THE high speedS that you can reach by driving on the highway. On the other hand, dealing with running out of fuel and increasing price, it is very useful for the future.

REFLECTION. Throughout the Ecomoto studio, i gained a lot of knowledge and skills which I will be able to relate to my future job. For me, everything is not simple, its a challenge and you have to tackle it head to make yourself better. I think the main issue in this semester was about modelling and then to visualise theconcept. It took me lots of time to research and learn how to draw my idea into CAD program. Every mistake is a lesson. Therefore, I always take note it in my diary to make sure it wont happen again.

detail. It also brings me to the highest and most well-known technology of industrial design which is 3D printing. I can see how important and save your time to prototype.

Its hard for me to change something in my studio, if I have an opportunity to start it again. However, I would say I want to remake my prototype because I expect myself can make it better. Ecomotor is an interesting studio that I can explore automotive major and help airengine company apply their design to the world .It can solve environmental issues by using air as a resource instead of fuel that will run out in the future. Moreover, the studio improved my CAD modelling skills, understanding motorbike construction and components’

Thank you.
