#1 I genuinely never teach English to student in the same age with me. What I do is basically helping them do the assignment such as checking their grammar or helping them build a better writing. I also sometimes helped them to find word they don’t know in English. We usually discuss together to learn. However, I have an experience to teach elementary school students English. I’ve been doing the teaching for almost two years (from the beginning of 2012 to the middle of 2013) with a couple of my friends. The first year was not running really well because I got way busier due to my international examination preparation and the courses that I took at school. The second year was a lot better because I allocate more time (with a better time management and planning) to teach the elementary students. This time was in the different place than the first year. The first meeting with the students I did an introduction first. And share them that learning English is basically fun and cool. I also included one or two game session to make sure that the teaching and learning process was not the same as what they do in classroom. The next meeting I start to share them more English lesson such as numbers, colors, stationery, etc in English. Moreover, I and my friend also included values such as respect, courageous, responsibility etc in our learning and teaching process. This was conducted by making paper craft, drawing, or miniature building to show them how the values can be used. – 260 words #2 English is considered as an international language. It is considered as a “global way” to communicate. Almost everything international is made in English: technology, music, movie, journalism or news talking about global issues are made in English. English somehow becomes an important requirement for who-so-ever who wants to go global. In this globalization era, English is very important. I realize that not all of my friends in Indonesia cannot get a good opportunity as what I get here: interacting with the native speaker directly. I want to bring them the knowledge of how to communicate in English, and let them dig as much knowledge as possible from me. I want to create a new standard for them to learn, so they can gain more and more knowledge from any information written in English. They can communicate well in English so they can interact to the global citizens, not just ones from my own country. I am genuinely curious to know on how teacher manage a lesson-plan and share their knowledge to the students. I found it a noble job to teach others. I want to get more and more knowledge about English stuffs that I can share such as managing vocabularies and how to get people’s attention when teaching. I also want to learn more about public speaking because sometimes I kind of mumbling when I speak in front of many people because I get so nervous. I want to teach elementary students in RPM Gesang, it is an informal institution where homeless kids or kids around the institution can come and learn or study together. This place was a place where I did my community service project (teaching) in 2013. RPM Gesang is located 40 minutes away from my school by public transportation. I might also let some of my friends joined me to teach them and share them what to do. My other plan is to create an English Teaching Cub in my school. I have a plan to name the club Etcetera. Anyone can join and I will share what I got here there. So there will be more people teach English in my community Moreover, I want to create an English Environment Program in my school that hopefully will run a lot better than how it used to be. This was initiated by my teacher at school but somehow it didn’t run very well. My school is Akademi Siswa Bangsa Internasional, where the students learn with mixed curriculum: national curriculum and international one from Cambridge International Examination. We actually use English in learning and teaching process for some classes. In some events we also use English. But daily conversation that the student uses mostly is not in English. I want to improve and fix this program in my school. – 227 words
